‘Chopper’ the talking cockie takes over the class with his incessant foul mouth/beak. The students adopt some anglicised names and then convert them/Australianise them to varying levels of success. Eg. Gibson to ‘Gibbo’, Leslie to ‘Leso’.

Okay as an Australian, let me just start off by saying, That's some of the funniest shit I've ever seen in my life! Either, someone's spend a considerable amount of time here studdying us or you are so freaken switched on with our culture and have probably the greatest sense of humor of all time.
By god people, you lot need a show on primetime television.

I think this series is funny and quite clever. The film makers seem to be able to tap into the self depreciating style of humor that is often associated with Australian comedy and manage to deliver an outrageous series of skits that certainly made me laugh. However, it seems this series has received criticism because it plays on stereotypes that some people find offensive, but using exaggerated stereotypes is nothing new to comedy, so what could be the problem here? I think that the unease felt by a lot of people who watch this series is due to a sensitivity that is often attributed to a soft kind of racism; it is alright for a national to 'take the piss' out of their own culture, but it is not alright for a national to 'take the piss' out of any other culture but their own. I think that, at least as far as this comedy is concerned, that this is somewhat unfair. No doubt this series has received the attention it has partly because of its outrageous content, but also because it is a satire, namely that it draws upon, in this case, stereotypes from a culture and proceeds to 'take the piss' out of them, and this always seems to be controversial branch of comedy when the satirist is making fun of a group outside their own. Yet i don't think this comedy is making any kind of damaging judgement on Australian culture, I think it is simply 'poking fun' in an outrageous way that is intended to draw attention and ultimately make people laugh. That is the ultimate intention of any style of comedy after all, to make people laugh, otherwise it wouldn't really be comedy, and I certainly think this is comedy, but maybe that is just my perspective. Anyway, I hope to see more from this group. In satire there is often a fine line between offensive and comical, but I think this group of film makers do indeed navigate this obstacle and have produced something that we could all laugh at, so long as we can appreciate the absurdity of the comedic content. We should be under no illusion that the film makers are not aware of the absurdity of their claims about Australian culture. After all, it is the self aware outrageous element that makes this comedy series as clever as it is.
