    Neal McDonough in this character is amazing. He's such a good guy on the outside which makes his evil role so believable. The role he played in Star Trek "First Contact" is where I noticed him. Since then, I've looked up everything he has done. When Resident Evil hit the movie screen with him in it gave me another look at him.

    The delivery of the 'unsalted' line cemented my appreciation for Quarrels. When this originally aired, I was on the fence about the quality of this season's villain character, but McDonough really hit this role out of the park. Great season.

      Agreed. I only wish Wynn Duffy didn't have to be riled down to make Quarles look so intimidating - he was killer in Season 1.

      @@ComedyBros5 Yeah, but that was because Duffy feared Theo Tonin, not Quarrels. I actually think it helps Wynn's more unhinged moments shine when they can be compared to this more reserved demeanor.

      @@deBebbler Agreed. That "Harlan Roulette" scene with him and Raylan was great - Jere Burns did so well, but then again, so did every other actor/actress in their roles!
      What was your opinion of Season 4 with not having a "big baddie," and Season 5 (which has been said to be the weakest by many)?

    • @deBebbler
      @deBebbler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ComedyBros5 I don't agree that season 4 had no big baddie - it was Theo Tonin. True, Raylan didn't face him per se, but Tonin's henchmen were pretty dangerous compared to Harlan-type bandits. Overall, I really liked the Drew Thompson mystery.
      The less that is said about season 5 the better. It was very weak.

      @@deBebbler Ah, yes. Very true!
      Eh, I think it was still a good season. It had some good single episodes/scenes (Johnny's demise, continued adventures of Duffy, Ava & Boyd tension, etc.), but as a whole, it paled compared to S1-4 & 6. Its problem is that it didn't have a good driving, charismatic, & clever central villain. The writer's should've made at least one of the Crowe boys somewhat smart. lol. Oh, and it got too violent. And...it just seems like Raylan & Boyd were just kinda hanging out with nothing to do.
      Now I think about it, there was just too much going on. The writers mistook complicated for being complex.

    Neal McDonough is a really good actor.

      Yes, he is! And he's a Christian, who refuses to kiss another actress - which has cost him countless jobs. He was quoted as saying "these lips are for my wife, and for my wife only". I'm sure that many people will respond with "oh, jeez - how ridiculous..." But, he's happily married, and works-and-lives in an industry where leading actors OFTEN leave their spouses after film roles that require them to be intimate with other actors. Standards might not be popular today, but I respect the HELL out of this actor!

      His role here reminded me of the bad guy he played opposite The Rock in Walking Tall (2004). Both Justified and Walking Tall taking place in small towns filled with crime and Neal McDonough trying to establish himself as a drug kingpin with cops on his payroll in those two.

      Eh I don’t know, he seems pretty bitter about Sammy being above him. He tries to make it sound like he should be in charge but Theo made it clear he was too much of a psycho and loose cannon to handle it.
