I used to smash by beans to make more "gravy," but when you have the just-right combination of a heavy pot and boil time it becomes creamy from simmering low and slow.
I made this recipe and let me tell you, they were the BEST red beans and rice I’ve ever made. The only thing I did differently is I took out about 1/2 of the beans once they were done and blended them and then put them back in the pot. Soooooo delicious 😋
If you are looking for the BEST red beans and rice recipe THIS IS LEGIT IT!!!!!!!! I've tried a few others but they lacked the flavor and consistency of true red beans and rice. This one is PERFECT!! Nothing needs to be added or removed. My only addition was adding shrimp. Thank you for this great recipe!
I live in Maine and I’ve been trying to duplicate red beans and rice for years from when I go down south for visits. This is the first recipe I’ve made that I can actually say it’s just as good as the stuff I’ve had in the south. Thank you!
Thanks for the tip of using crab boil. I lived in Mississippi for some time long ago and my red beans and rice was substandard until now but I knew what the good stuff tasted like.
Merci Beaucoup! Execellent presentation and preparation. Being raised by a Creole Chef (Mty Mom RIP), I can attest to the authenticy of this dish. I won't quibble over a few minor differences in how I prepare this dish. Rose handled her business on this one as she always does.
@@nilmarbordelies5272 It was really good. The only thing I would do differently next time is add my sausage last so that the flavor doesn’t cook out of them.
Made is for Christmas this year and it was very good. Best red beans and rice recipe I’ve ever tried! Just added smoked Turkey to the mixture and let boil for the 3 hours. Thanks for sharing. ❤
OMG!!! Just completed this recipe. Absolutely delicious. I added shrimp as well. I was tempted to use pigtail as well, but wanted it to be a bit healthier. My third recipe from you in 3 weeks. So easy and tasty. Thank you!!
Wow ,I can't wait to try this, I love red beans and rice! I'm thinking with that long simmer time, transfer the dish into a crock pot and simmer that way. This could be a great crockpot recipe.
@@neoone9820can you please send me some or the recipe on how to make it? :( my boyfriend is from new orleans and he’s staying with me and I really want to make this for him because it’s his favorite dish
Just came across your video, the recipe looks great. Your clear and precise explanation and video work was spot on. The presentation of the finished dish looked so amazing.
I am Cajun and your recipe looks great. However traditionally red beans had a ham bone from Sunday dinner or a good smoked ham hock. But the recipe is a good one to use.
i am making this at the request of my bf and i would like to use a ham shank. my question is at what point do i add the pork? i was thinking of parboiling it first then adding it before i have the beans sit and simmer. is there a better way i should follow?
That's how folks cooked beans who don't know the best way what happened to the pigtails and Savoie's pickle meat and for safety you should always sort beans and soak overnight but I know different stokes for different folks I'm from New Orleans and I love my pigtails, pickle meat, and smoked sausage in my red beans.
Hi! Question. Do you or anyone that did this recipe soak the beans the day before? Or does that cooking time soften the beans? Looks great and I want to make the recipe this weekend! Thank you!!
I soak the beans or brine them for a more creamy texture. They also cook more quickly. And if you are using meat on a bone you can let them cook for a longer time, but sausage don't retain as much flavor. But even with smoked meat, you can cook it to a point, remove it from the bone, leave the bone for flavor and add the meat at the end.
Forgive me if this mentioned and I missed it, but what is the process for the beans aside from pre-soaking overnight? Were they cooked before hand or just rinsed/washed?
Lol! I had clicked on the video without looking at the channel name. When you began talking, I immediately thought: I know that voice! I subscribed when I saw you the first time. I made Cajun red beans and rice a couple of times based on a recipe from a rice company. I figured they would have a great a recipe. Both times it came out mushy and disappointing. I assumed it was my fault. Their recipe calls for cooking the rice in with the beans and sausage. I’ve looked at several YT videos and only one shows the rice cooked with the beans. The others are like yours: served with the rice. I make lots of beans and rice and peas and rice because of my vacations in the Bahamas and Caribbean. They cook the beans/peas in with the rice. Do you know why there is a difference between the two methods? I am curious if it’s a regional thing or if it’s Creole vs Cajun. I will definitely be trying your method as soon as possible! Thank you so much for the quality videos you make. Very professional and always amazing!
The only thing I'd tweak about this version is to mash some of the beans so you get that nice creamy texture
I’m also a big fan of that method. I agree. Gravy just is stupid creamy
Yep the last recipe vid i watched smooshed some of the beans...
I used to smash by beans to make more "gravy," but when you have the just-right combination of a heavy pot and boil time it becomes creamy from simmering low and slow.
@@honeybv245 the only problem with that method is you risk burning it.
You want your shit pureed...like those old peole with mo teeth ???😊

That Was A Good Idea, It’s What I Do With My Charro Beans. Adds A Creaminess and Thickens The Dish.

Red beans 🫘, rice 🍚, and cornbread. I could eat this for the rest of my life!!
Cornbread..thankyou!! Good idea!!

@@nilmarbordelies5272 It was really good. The only thing I would do differently next time is add my sausage last so that the flavor doesn’t cook out of them.
I love the way you simplify receipes very easy to follow.
Delicious! I used canned beans, so I cut the liquid down to about 1.5 cups. But with that change, it was ready in 30 minutes!
How did it taste with canned beans .
It was delicious! Not a lot of difference in flavor, though, between canned and fresh beans.
By far one of the best Red beans and rice recipe’s I’ve seen cooked. Excellent!!
Made it and love it!!! I have searched so long for an authentic recipe and you totally nailed it. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

This is soo good. My go to recipe for red beans. I did as others suggested and smashed the beans. Prefect!!

Yeah but black people are bo longer eating pork. So good bye tradition

If you don’t eat pork, smoked turkey necks ,wings ,tail or drums will work nice as sell

I.believe it makes the cooking time shorter..

This looks good . Although ppl from
Louisiana tend to add a variety of meats . Like diced ham or pickled meats .
Did you soak the beans ahead of time?
Looks good. I would suggest taking the bay leaves out before serving it
yumm!! this indeed looks perfect, loved it 🥰🥰
Awesome I am hungry (smile).
Looks delicious
good video can you cook seafood rice with shirmp next?
Will try yours, I only question the crab boil. It seems like a more healthy way to cook them than the old way with salt pork and ham hocks.
Thank you!!! Looks so so good and easy to follow ❤️❤️
