The Dave and busters game James remembers is Galaxian3 Theater. There is another game for that setup called Air Raid. The screen is two projectors that need to be at an accurate angle to align.
Accidentally erasing an 80 hour save on Dragon quest 8 was my biggest mistake.
Ouch, that hurts.
I did something similar to that, and it's how I learned the precaution of save rotations.

Monster Madness is required viewing in our house around Halloween.
The FF3 glitch _sounds_ like the sketch glitch. And it _often_ happens in Kefka's tower because people don't usually use Relm and when you build out those 3 parties at the end it is likely you'll have her in one and it is also likely you'll _resort_ to using sketch and if she misses because you used it on an invisible enemy it can easily cause graphical glitches _and_ erase your saves.
Wait, people don't use Relm? She's the best character of the game with the highest magic stat.
Came here to say just that. That sounds exactly like the sketch bug.
My FF3 save file also got corrupted after putting over 60 hours into it. Hearing James' story gave me flashbacks.
The glitch gremlin shall always show up in unexpected ways
"The sketch glitch doesn't harm the hardware at all, it only deletes the save data." I was going to say that he's lucky his cartridge didn't brick, but that doesn't happen.

At 42:41, That game you played at Dave and Busters is called Galaxian³ Project Dragoon on a Giant Arcade Cabinet that could hold 6 players and in Japan, 16 players. They the players would act as gunners shooting down enemy ships and destroy a superweapon.

I'll tell you my gaming nightmare. It happened when I was around 11-12. I was playing The Legend of Zelda (NES), and had gotten further into the game than I ever had. I honestly cannot remember if it was the fifth or sixth dungeon, but what I do remember was that it occurred when I went into that grey brick room that houses the dungeon item. I pick it up, the famous "Got Item" sound effect plays, and then the game freezes, and oddly enough, sustains the final note of that sound effect. After taking a few seconds to swear at the television, I reset my NES, and my save file was gone.
I haven't attempted to complete the game since.
Man, saves used to be fragile back in the day. They seem to have gotten corrupt more often than now.
Kieran describing the ending of Infinity reminds me of when me and my gf saw Hereditary in the theatre. When 'that scene' happened, you could just hear everyone collectively gasp. It was amazing.
My video game nightmare has to do with Earthbound. I would religiously rent that game on weekends fighting through the battle of holding onto a rental save slot. The odd friday, it would be rented out and typically, when I'd get my hands on it again, the save file would be erased. To be expected with rentals... Not a big deal, but I had never been able to get passed Moonside because of it. Finally collecting into my late 20's and my wife had gotten me a copy for our anniversary. I was so stoked to dive into it. Such a nostalgic trip going through it all... Get to Fourside and started getting so excited that I was about to pass a life long awaited milestone. Turned the game off for the night thinking I would save the journey through Moonside over the weekend. Turn it on Saturday morning, and apparently the battery decided to give out... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!
The Arcade Game James means ist pretty sure galaxian. There is also a playstion 1 Version of this Game in existance.

Amazing. Even at the age of 15, James still had that level of rage inside of him. He was always destined to become some variant of the AVGN. And I'm glad he fulfilled it.

11:10 Worst Gaming Nightmares. My worst had to do with a game on a cartridge and like James, it crashed. When I turned the game back on, the save data was gone. The game was on the N64 and I think this happened to a few of my games, like Zelda, Diddy Kong, and WWF No Mercy.
That arcade game was probably Galaxian3: Project Dragoon
Can't tell you how hyped I am for a full October of Monster Madness! It was something I looked forward to each year

Q&A: Have you guys ever heard of The Protomen? They are a rock band that has written 2 rock operas based on the megaman series! There is a written story that goes along with the music. I think you guys would dig it!

I have found my people!!
When I was young my parents had a camper at a campground nearby. It had a building where they had a couple vending machines, couches, and two or three arcade machines. I remembered playing one but forgot what it was. More recently I got the SNK anniversary collection on Steam and learned that game was P.O.W.

I had a similar issue to James’s ff3/6 incident but mine was at the end of Crystalis. Power went out for 3 hours in the summer of 91.
The one game I can never remember it’s name is Dark Savior on the Saturn and I had to look it up.

I work at a small theater chain that’s had some of their locations rent out theater screens to small groups for a fee to drum up business, basically you can watch a movie you own on the big screen as long as you bring it with you, do you think there’s a future for theaters with that kind of business model or something similar? Been really digging the podcast btw
There should be a future for that. I think it would be cool to rent the theater with a large group of friends and maybe hook up some video games. Even without the games part, this sounds really awesome.

I remember the winslows sometimes things like that would be said and I’d look over in the corner behind the front door at the family rifle living in Tennessee and thinking about how odd what they said was. As A kid I just thought the writers lived in their own odd world. It portrayed them in a oddly bad light just seemed out of place.

It must be. I heard him talking about it and then I remembered back in the mid 90s my family went to a giant arcade, cause in Florida we had those massive arcades with the big old go kart courses, and they had exactly what he described. Then after looking up what you said, I saw it and I was like, "THAT'S THE GAME. IT'S NOT SOMETHING I MADE UP IN MY HEAD!" Needless to say, I feel validated now.

Purple Erkle doesn't actually have anything to do Steve Urkle or Jaleel White. Purple Erkle came from Humbolt CA in the early 2000s and was prolific across CA. Yes, It was essentially just Mendo Purp, but it was grown in Humboldt by one specific grower and his family. If it's not grown by them then its just Mendo Purp. Since Jaleel White is calling it Purple Urkle (not Erkle) its definitely just a knock off.
Was the game that James was talking about called Starblade? It was an on-rails Namco space shooter. Was also on PS1. In the arcades, i think it was always presented on a massive screen.

I'm just now noticing that James pronounces "during" "dooring" haha and enduring "endooring"
It's been 20 years but I'm still a little sore over losing a Diablo II save file with my highest level character. I forgot to back up the save file to a disk and when I moved to a new PC, everything on the old computer was erased. That's probably why I skipped the Lord Of Destruction expansion for Diablo II.
To be fair you could use a char editor and get everything to where you where items and skills.
I remember Playing Oblivion on 360, and I accidentally saved over my character/file that I put over 3,500 hours into :(

Not too bad, even for back then before LoD. Leveling up was very fast and easy online with the amount of farming lobbies.

In theatre, I saw (in the 80’s) ET, Transformers The Movie, and Carebears. Movie are impossible to edit at last minute so the release had to be final. Games, etc, can be delayed because of their flexibility of alterations, and of course, patches, patches, patches.

When it comes to regular beer the Czechs know how it's done - so you can't go wrong with Staropramen, or Pilsner Urquell.

Final Fantasy II for the SNES was the rpg that did it for me.
The one that got me into the genre was "Crystalis" for the NES.
And "Maniac Mansion" also showed me the world of graphic adventures. Fond memories...
For me it was Illusion of Gaia and Secret of Evermore.

Guys there's a movie about a guy in mexico that slowly rotting, he somehow became a zombie, dealing with the everyday dangers of rotten everydayliving in the shady parts of mexico city. It's called Halley, GREAT sound, AWESOME non sequitur boddy horror kinda thing.

I used to play a Battlestar Galactica arcade game that sounds extremely similar. it takes place on a spaceship rather than flying through space, but still a rail shooter, had it's own little room you played in, similar name to galaga
Wow, after searching for it, it might actually be Star Trek Voyager, but I could've sworn it was Battlestar Galactica. It had a similar theme of shooting robots that are attacking a ship.
I just looked at up and it certainly looks exactly like he was describing. I think you might've nailed it.

Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon. There was a section where you shouldn't be caught by guard dogs, but it autosaved in the process of getting caught. I was so demotivated that I didn't restart, though I should've.
I want to see Dune in theaters. I think more enthusiasts will still go especially if more families want to stay home.
