Silent Hill was meant to be treated like a horror movie game for me. You had an average guy who suddenly wanders into the scariest scenario possible and Everytime you start to get comfortable the screen would get darker and make you rely on all your senses to make sure nothing was sneaking up on you.

41:45 Prehistoric coelacanth fish were presumed extinct, but in 1938, fishermen caught one in their nets off the east coast of South Africa and live fish were filmed later on. I've actually seen a bisected specimen (a coelacanth sliced in half from head to tail and preserved in a tank) at Rhodes University, my father's alma mater, in Grahamstown, South Africa.

The only horror game that has genuinely freaked me out was the first Silent Hill. None of the Resident Evil games ever freaked me out like that first Silent Hill did. Especially when you get into the school. The limitations of the Ps1 and the game design of Silent Hill just freaked me out. The developers did a phenomenal job taking advantage of the limitations of the original PlayStation.

I saw Jurassic Park in theaters in 1993 when i was 6 years old. I had the VHS tape too and had a few nightmares from seeing the movie back then. Jurassic Park on SNES was scary when you go into the buildings in fps mode and the music makes those parts creepy. Yes i grew up in the 90s and had about 8 maybe 10 games and usually only one game system so i either beat the games or just played them over and over.

Arcades were really rare even when i was kid in Finland. But they did exist. Even today we have some special retro places you can play them. I remember that some of the McDonald's had SNES in Finland when i was kid. Also in some of the Youth Center we have later even a Playstation, N64 and so on. They got few games there but also you can in Youth Center bring your own games into there and play with your friends and other people. So in Finland you did not have to count only to your friends that you could play games you have not played. Even today the libraries have games and even consoles. So basically when you live in Finland, atleast in capital city, you have very good access to the gaming. What about in other countries? What kind of possibilities you have on this?

When you guys were talking about the lake monsters you reminded me of an episode of River Monsters, and forgive me for not recalling where Jeremy was for this one, but I think it was in the US somewhere, but he was interviewing a lady that had an eyewitness account from overhead. She had seen the monster several times. Describing it to have a torpedo like body and very ridged fins. He sketched her description and was certain what she had seen was a sturgeon. So perhaps there are real world explanations for all the other beasties as well (other than waterlogged stumps that release gasses and float to the surface briefly)

Just putting it out, the entire Monster Madness has been fantastic! So glad it's back and turning me towards movies I've never heard of before! Great podcast episode as well!

Hey guys, when everyone talks, none of us can hear what you're saying. Gotta remember you're doing a podcast for thousands of people, not talking privately amongst yourselves.

I was the same age as Keeran when I saw Jurassic Park in theaters at that age. I was murdered by Dinosaurs in my dreams for months afterwards.

Talking about lake monsters, there is one in the Slavic culture. It's a guy called Vodnik (at least in the Czech version), he lives underwater in lakes, waiting for people to take a swim or just get close to the water, drag them underwater and drown them. And when he's finished with them, he put their souls inside a jar like a collection.

27:41 Funnily enough, this was actually THE game that always scared me as a kid, due to those sudden still images of a machete on head and the accompanying scream upon finding a new dead body.
