  • Nuts319, a Logger from PA, came down to visit several of us in southern indiana. While he was in town, he came over to our homestead to take down a big, dying, hard leaning, black oak tree with his Husqvarna 327xp chainsaw. It was an absolutely awesome day. Good people and good times. Pete was even kind enough to let me run his saw for a bit and share a few tips and tricks with me. We even had Dirt Perfect come out to help run a camera! It just doesn't get any better.
Make sure you guys get over and check out his channel!

That tree take down was a thing of beauty. Wow, Pete knows his stuff, escape routes, where to cut and so on. This is petty, but the only negative I would have is Pete is not wearing safety goggles. At 8:15 he is even squinting to keep the chips out that are flying at his face. I will certainly get a few boooooos on this, but that is an important piece. Thanks for the video Cap and Pete and the Stump Sitter. Job well done.

Hey Captain, I think nuts319 may have stopped you on the first try of the bigger 372 saw because you are used to your smaller saw and pushing it through a tree while cutting. The 372 is HOSS enough to power its way if it can stay wound up. Right saw for right job. I always had a smaller, less powerful homeowners McCulloch/Homelite size. Great work on the HUGE tree. Very much instructional info.
When he described the bumps, seams and talked about possible grain structure on the ways it may fall, explode and blow out from strain or where it lands.

      @@CaptainKleeman Forest fire in Montana.
But I am not a Firefighter.
I am a Arborist and Logger.
Right now I am working in WV saving White Oak timber that fell over on the family farm but I live in MT and have logged in WA, MT, and a little in WV.
Lol ...Truth is that I like arborist work but logging and firewood paid the bills.
I think I found your channel from Logger Wade ( TH-cam algorithm )
Anyhow I just subscribed to your channel.
It looks like you all know how to have fun :D

Yep, pretty awesome. Seamers always make me nervous, sometimes I spend more than a half hour shooting the breeze with myself before I cut them! I have one, huge top and leaning like that one, single stem, but it's all rotted out in back like that one up to about 10 feet so the only holding/hinge wood is the thin sapwood on both sides. Nuts could probably figure out a way to cut it down safely but I'm gonna have to wait for Mother Nature, and she is taking her sweet time!

Digby O'Dell Mother Nature seems to have more patience than we do most of the time.
