  • The firewood market where I am it is already saturated with an abundance of hardwood. However, had an idea to switch it up, and offer a different product. Very surprised with the results and excited to see how it works out in the long run.

Good luck with the luxury firewood business. That's a clever angle! When I got married I was completely broke. Bought my suit with money I made selling firewood on craigslist. Once was enough for me...

Cap’n, ain’t capitalism awesome? One of the reasons I watch your channel is because I appreciate how hard you work... and, I want to do what little I can to help you succeed.
I think I told you a bit about my neighbor Donnie... the best housewife on the block. Well, he was poor as a church mouse. He could just make ends meet and had no money for car repairs. However his old V-6 Chevy was only hitting on 4 cylinders. So, I agreed to show him how to change the points and plugs.
At 9AM Saturday morning, I brought my tools over and we got started. First we gapped the plugs... that was pretty slow and uneventful (except for the one plug where he broke the lower ceramic shield).
I grab the socket and ratchet and show him how to remove the first plug. My wife hollers and reminds me that I promised to go to the bank as soon as it opens. That was before direct deposit and we had checks out that we had to cover. So, I show him how to reverse the ratchet, put a plug in it and start it in the hole. Then off to the bank and spark plug store I go.
Thirty minutes later I come back. Donnies under the hood ratcheting like crazy. When I approach he looks up with a grimace. He is still working on plug 1???
Donnie tells me, “I think I stripped the threads, it won’t tighten up.”
I grab the ratchet, pop the socket off and look at the plug. The porcelain top is sticking out of the bottom of the socket???
I ask him if he had looked at it. He says, “Yeah, it fell out and I looked at it before I put it back in, to screw it in.”
I tell him that it’s a good thing he put it in the socket upside down... ‘cause you can’t strip the threads that way!!!
He breaths a sigh of relief. Seven spark plugs, a set of points/condenser and 2 hours later the jalopy was ready for his wife’s next demolition derby trip to Walmart.”
That was the beginning of Donnie’s introduction to saving money by doing his own repairs... I’ll tell you about his next attempt one of these days... if you’re interested.
That was an awesome towboat shot... rivals the towboat from the mist video for sure.

@@CaptainKleeman Might want to check requirements. To sell at wholesale like that, most area require it to be heat treated and certified. You know, to stop the spread of emerald ash borer and other pests. They really got on the rules since this round of kills. Also watch crossing county lines with your bundles although ceder may be exempt. Kinda wish they had done that sooner as those ash trees were really pretty before the die off.

You can make bank doing firewood, even if you're by the woods. Here in eastern Idaho my friend and I sold a lot of firewood and it's everywhere here. Everybody here wants Pine. There's a guy that started years ago selling bundles at gas stations and grocery stores and they charge $5 per bundle or 2 for $8.99 and they're half the size of yours. He now sells at all Kroger, and Albertsons stores and almost all gas stations across Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Nevada, and Oregon. We can get anywhere from $150 to $475 per cord of wood and pine being the most expensive and most popular. The rich people in Jackson Hole Wyoming will gladly pay $475 per cord and it's only around a 90 mile drive and haul 5 cord loads in a single axle dump truck.

Find an old truck or tractor tire that you can lay on the ground and fill it with your cut logs standing upright. Then you just walk around the tire splitting logs as you go because the tire keeps the split pieces in the center and you won't be spending all that effort retrieving them.

Nice video, great drone footage, looking forward to seeing your new channel. Sounds like a good plan to generate some cash flow, maybe you could point put in some solar panels to charge the saw and claim it was cut with green renewable energy. 😂. For a second there I was wondering if you were going to try my charcoal idea, but the cedar is better as long as you have it since you can make boards and firewood at the same time. Just don’t let Wade know your milling. 😂. Stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.

Over 60 years ago, I learned that the 40 hour a week job keeps you alive. What you do with the rest of your time, gets you ahead. Firewood will become even more valuable next winter. With the turbulent oil market we may have shortages next winter. A cord of dry hard wood burned in a good wood stove will give heat equivalent to 200 gallons of no 2 heating oil. Stockpile a lot of wood. I split by hand for 10 years but for the past 35 years I have been using a log splitter. It can be horizontal or vertical but I use it vertical most of the time while I sit on a stool. Good Luck, Rick

As I grew up, dad did firewood as his full time job. For quite a few years we shipped 40 foot semi trailers to SoCal every week. Cut wood into a deck during the week then Saturday we would load the trailer. At the time he said that he would never do local retail. He then bought his own truck and trailer and shipped to South Lake Tahoe. For the last 15 years or so he did local retail. He did bundles as well for a local gas market which was a pain, but something he learned was to use plastic. With rope, you saw what happens. It gets loose. It doesn't matter what you do or how tight you get it, it comes loose. I think a good idea is to use a natural fibre rope if you go that way. That way they can burn the rope without any funky smells.

First and foremost, I am the guy who dissed you on work perfect "because" every time I commented on the channel a person, I'm thinking now that its not you, I say something nice and they call me the biggest douche bag commenter! I get sick of this kind of responses and say yuk foo you too and they used the name kleenman so I figured at first it was you. I have watched and like all and then got crapped on for it... so see where I came from. Your a clean cut go for it and laugh at a few bruises guy and it just didn't make any sense so AM I the biggest douche bag or am I a guy trying to get to the bottom of things? If you give me the benefit of doubt I would appreciate it as I have kept my remarks clean and respectful I at least thought. I worked on the tow boat "Frank Bantam Jr." for the davy crockett line. I even went up the white river to a place called Muskogee Ok. and it was getting pretty shallow at that point. I did dig the town alright but missed the wide open space on the mississippi river as the rats on the shore didn't come aboard as bad. They are some evil ugly looking thing when your hand is nearly on one in the bottom of a flour barrel. Deck hands then did every thing from ratchets on the barges to cleaning the privy. Not the most glamorous job.I love that mill that you have and would of liked to got that far myself but really only experience with band saws were the eight inch band saws we used for sawing flat saw shingles. Those are twenty four inch long, and come in half inch and heavy's. It had such a curf that it ate more than it left making them unprofitable. I worked my guts out on the islands of southern alaska and never came out for air unless it was a dead half too. I was on self destruct and did a fair job as its getting me at my seventy three years. If you are the guy who called me a douche bag then this is my last time for either channel as I have been respectful

    Getting a mill?
Red cedar heartwood make really nice flower boxes.
If you take the dirt out in the winter, they will last a very long time.

To me it does not matter that you are posting firewood videos. The name of this channel is "Captain Kleeman", not "Clearing land and building a boat cabin". To me it is about you, and the things that you do. I like the fact that you leave in your mistakes and show what really happens. To me it shows what anyone can do if they try. Keep up the good work.

Great idea Captain! Its certainly worth a shot since you have it available and it just takes a little hard work. I'm glad its working out for you. A note for the mill: I find that hardwoods mill easier when green. After milling, everything gets put on stickers for drying. You might talk to Logger Wade about a used saw from his operation. There may be one you can purchase that will get you started and have a bigger displacement than you could afford new.
