  • All the behind the scenes - In todays video Dirt Perfect and I get together to go over the the equipment we use for out outdoor and excavation you tube channels. If you are new to our channels here is a quick run down of what we generally make videos on.
    Captain Kleeman does homestead work such as land clearing, land management and the use of a saw mill. We also are covering the build progress of our TH-cam Yacht project where we are building a rental cabin in the shape of a tugboat. The third tier to the channel is working for dirt perfect part time as an equipment operator and truck driver.
    Dirt perfect is the owner of his own excavation company and covers everything from the job themselves, to the equipment maintenance, to how he runs his business.
    Each of us started with out phones then upgraded to the go pro hero 7 white. From there to go pro hero 7 black and then to hero 8 black.
    Captain kleeman first video all shot on phone with magnetic mount - • Spreading Millings wit...
    Dirt perfect first video - • Intro & moving the 850...

      Wayne Crews but remember the way ad sense works is TH-cam gets paid per ad and then the creator gets a percentage of that. It’s in their best interest to shove as many ads in front of a guy as possible. They don’t really care if people get mad and stop watching us because they’ve got millions of other creators. 🙄

    Great video! I love to see what other TH-camrs are using and how they feel. The GoPro seems like a good fit for you guys, but I have found it to be very frustrating for me. I typically film indoors, and the GoPro is horrible in low light. I also personally find long videos, or videos with a lot of detail, hard to watch when filmed with a GoPro on any of the "wide" settings. The image is distorted, and your brain knows something is not quite right. I use a Cannon Vixia R700 for 99% of my videos with a homemade version of your magnet mount. You guys are doing great. After 1 year of TH-cam I had less than 2000 subscribers. It took me 2-1/2 years to reach 10,000. Though, I upload far less videos. I try to do at least one a week now, but I only averaged 1 video a month in the early days.

    • @DirtPerfect
      @DirtPerfect 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree Wes then suck in low light even the 8

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch Wes Work agree 100%. Go pros are rough with low light. As far as the wide frame goes, the 7 black has different aspect ratios you can run in depending on what you’re doing. But there are a lot of channels that use that Cannon model in correlation with a go pro. If I ever did another upgrade I think it would be a Canon for the “talking” style shots.

    • @WatchWesWork
      @WatchWesWork 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptainKleeman Someday I will make a similar video. I've learned so much about camera equipment that I never thought I would need to know! The big thing for me (and I think we can say you too...) is to keep the camera equipment cost reasonable. I drop my camera on a weekly basis. I've melted them with torches, damaged lenses with welders, spilled every kind of fluid on them, etc. It just makes no sense to spend mega $ on fancy cameras that will get destroyed. I buy these Canons used for $100. I'm on my 3rd one. I've been eyeing the DJI version of the GoPro. Welker Farms is using one now.

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch Wes Work absolutely. In fact if a guy pays attention and isn’t in a rush, there are nice used go pros on market place on a pretty regular basis, same with drones. I’ve heard great things about DJI action cams. They are supposed to have better audio is well, Which is by far my biggest struggle with the go pros.

    The comments that drive me nuts are from the people who didn't pay attention to the video and they ask questions that were answered in the video. You can find free music to use in your videos if you put a little credit to the person who created it, one of the guys I get stuff from has a little blurb you just copy paste into the description or I put it in the video itself.

      So many people don’t pay attention during the video and in my opinion then ask “stupid” questions. I’ve posted about that on Dirt Perfect’s channel saying that those people will have trouble with the test afterwards.
      Perhaps they’re just trying to watch the video while doing something else but it does seem like some people have difficulty with basic comprehension skills.

    good stuff. my main hobby is backpacking but i really think there are enough channels covering that , i do use my phone to take some video and then later when i look at it i hate the video lol.
    i think this winter if we have any big storms i might video some of the snow removal just for giggles. i think though videoing work helps you learn, when you look back you think why did i do it that way. i see many contractors are videoing the entire process now to cover there backsides.
    on the note of keeping it fun, i have unsubscribed from so many channels because they went way to commercial for me, i do enjoy product reviews heck ill watch just about anything at least once

    Thanks guys, very thorough! This is the video I have been waiting for, a few questions/comments for you:
    1. How long did it take you guys to decide to invest in a better camera like the GoPro 7 Black? Did you wait until you have a couple thousand subscribers and were making money from ads? I don't have 1000 subs yet so I'm using an old Panasonic camera that was a wedding present 8 years ago.
    2. Thanks for confirming that a drone isn't necessary to be successful!
    3. How about a short tutorial of how you use Tube Buddy?
    4. Thanks for showing the ads TH-cam screen, do you make money when someone watches an entire ad or click on an ad?
    5.Thanks for sharing your experiences on TH-cam, it's a fun journey for sure.

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Construction Trucks 1. Yeah, once I was monetized I decided to upgrade the cameras. Plus, once it was monetized it became a business and any equipment is a write off
      2. Drones are nice, but definitely not a must have.
      3. We may do another video like this in the future and cover that, but it is a very user friendly app.
      4. There is a difference for us whether someone watches or skips through, but I’m not sure how big of a difference it makes
      5. Thanks for watching!

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Craig Smith audio is a big problem. Unfortunately it’s one of the more complicated issues to fix for a channel our style. It adds an incredible amount of extra steps and equipment to keep track of and since we try to keep this fun and a hobby, those steps never seem worth it. This style of video deserves a better audio setup, but since it’s not our normal content, we just don’t have that equipment.

    So, the mystery is solved.... the drone is fish food! I’ve Been wondering??? Now for some real questions... If a GoPro falls from a dozer and is never found, does it make a sound? What happens to the electrons expended to film scenes that you edit out? Do they reappear in the universe? If The Man Behind the Scenes becomes The Man IN the Scenes, who is behind him? If the minute hand on a clock crosses the hour hand about every 65 minutes, how many.... forget that one, it involves math!
    This was a most excellent YT equipment primer. I have been curious about everything you discussed. My grandson wants me to start a channel... I’ll have him watch this and see if he is willing to give me lessons!

    Always appreciate the efforts of you both. HOWEVER, we need to be honest and I never complain but need to point out that the AUDIO from start (only gone to 4 minutes - so far) is TOO LOW & QUIET. I have TH-cam volume all the way up and my laptop all the way up and you guys are a struggle to hear. JUST SAYIN and that's NOT a COMPLAINT but 'feedback'.
    OK guys, you just switched over to CAPTAIN and audio for him was much improved. Then, MIKE, you came over to where C was sitting and spoke and that came out much better. (Just feedback, guys!) FYI - ALL is WELL when you guys went to the DRONES @ about 10 minutes!...
    Remainder was great sound as per usual. Mike & Captain, you guys packed a lot of information in this 35 minute video. Those starting out for a channel can further search out what you provided. At least many things are not a mystery any longer. Big plus for that to help others. ALSO, big YES to AARON for his new channel and BEST place for that 'community' camera. Of the 6 or 7 channels I watch, I have a hard time understanding how the actual filming of the work over a day or a week get condensed into a SAG Quality video for us to see. Has to be a lot of effort (no I did not say work)! Anyway, thank you for this helpful insight! Regards. Sonny (CT)

    How do you know if you have TH-cam worthy content? Or is it a thing you just start doing and hope for the best? And is it better to have a channel geared towards one or two types of videos or just a bunch of random clips? My wife thinks I should start a TH-cam channel but I don’t think I have enough content or enough of the same content to have a channel.

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DmaxMarshall TH-cam itself has a lot of videos about this you can check out. They suggest sticking to one basic niche market if that makes sense. And to add to that, I think the person making the content matters just as much as the content itself and like we mentioned, if you go into it to have fun and learn then you don’t have anything to lose!

      Captain Kleeman i had never heard of a Red Camera until this week. I guess the action sports filmers use them. I watch a lot of surfing channels. Btw - do launch the drone for the riverboats from you house or do you get closer when you know one is coming? Also do you worry about distracting the crews?

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Patrick McMillan I typically launch from the house, it just depends on conditions really. But I’ll go to different places if I see a neat tow. And as far as the crews go, I do my best to stay out of their way. And I would doubt they could hear the drone over the boat. Those towboats are loud enough you can feel them.
