When Muhammad Ali passed away I rewatched the movie Ali. There's a scene in that film where Ali is running with some kids in an African village, training for his big fight. He sees a drawing on a wall of him boxing mosquitoes and tanks. The kids think he can defeat pestilence and war. That's how powerful a figure he has become. In that scene you can see the weight of that revelation on Ali. He has to bear the weight of Africa and the world on his shoulders, knowing full well that he might lose the fight. In that one moment Ali was more of Superman than in any of the Snyder films.

      No it's really not.

    • @johnburt7935

Yes. Superman has two characteristics that make him noteworthy (and worthy of his powers): his awareness of his obligations and what people expect of him (without being crippled by that burden) and simple joy in being Superman and in all the fun things he can do.
4:54, DC should take this possibility seriously. A film about Invincible could indeed knock the current movie incarnation of Superman silly. Even Hyperion could do this, if he could get over his excessive veneer of Marvel angst. And probably so could...who's that guy on the left?

    • @poontang3zizo
      @poontang3zizo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +36

Except it so is. Superman, no matter how great a burden he has to bear, is a figure of hope. Even though Ali knew there's no way he could stop war and death and knew that he could very well lose his fight, put on a brave face for everyone. Even at his darkest he remained that symbol of hope for others. That's what Superman is

+John Burt Marvel really essentially did a Superman story with Cap. Especially in the Avengers movie, calling Superheroics and the belief in something good as old fashion. Like in the first Superman movie. Or in Winter Soldier where Cap didn't want to be ruled by fear so became a defender of Truth, Justice and the...........huh.
DC really doesn't want to be Marvel.

Yeah but one man's right is another man's wrong. That's what the movies trying to say. No one ever looks at thing from Supes point of view when the talk about these movies. This is a very human a take on Superman not the big blue parody people want him to be. Personally I think people just want Supes to be the Boy Scout so Batman can have someone to be snarky too like Wolverine to Cyclops in the X-Men movies.

Fenris, the problem though is that other people's fear and dislike of Superman is almost cartoonish in how it is portrayed.
A government in Africa murders its own citizens and the US government holds Superman responsible because he was there a few days earlier and killed a warlord in the area.
The government responsible is never mentioned to be held accountable in any way.
Lois, a person that was at the scene and would have seen multiple bodies with gunshot wounds, seems to wonder if the reports that Superman killed those people were true.
A bomb is detonated at Capitol Hill. Superman is present at the scene. Despite the actual bombers name being immediately and widely reported, everyone says Superman is at fault.

+skycapt4in4ever your a fucking idiot. how does he on anyway resemble Michael bay? because they both go overboard a bit with Action. Michael Bay movies are racist, sexist, offensive, riddled with product placement, and overly goofy characters. if anything, Michael bay's transformers inspired mcu whole outlet, seeing as to how it promotes towards teens, uses many pop cultural references , and jokey.
Zack Snyder just makes dark twisted fantasies. you may like them, you may not, but he has style with it. I don't see how you can compare someone who makes cliche action films riddled with pop culture with a director who focuses on themes & subtlety. he may not impress everyone but he's not a bad director. that's like saying chicken taste like pork because they are both meat

    • @ShortSpider-Man
      @ShortSpider-Man 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Yeah, there's no subtlety in Zack Snyder movies, all his shit is overblown and jumbled. And as shitty as Bay movies are, they're more entertaining than Zack Snyder's movies. I'd rather see someone attentionally make a bad movie with a shit ton of explosions and dumb humor than some hack of a director attempt to tell a story that's too intelligent for his stupid brain, delivering one of the most unfocused big budget movies to ever see the light of day, all while shitting on two of the most beloved pop culture icons in history.

This was certainly Supes in one of his weakest incarnations. Poor Tim Daly, I think the majority of his voicework was made up of grunts and "Ouch"es.
But I thought it worked in terms of him initially building up his rogue's gallery. He didn't know how much each one could take and was more conservative.
Then as the rogues became more powerful, be pushed his limits bit by bit, leading up to that confrontation with Darkseid.
I hated how often he got knocked out-of-frame on that show, but the Darkseid thing is a golden moment for me.

What I love, is that he didn't try to beat John Williams. He couldn't. But the score couldn't be recycled for Post Crisis Superman either. So he created his own, and, while it isn't the John Williams score it's almost as, if not as iconic as the John Williams score, and gave me chills like no other superhero theme since the John Williams score.

      @g.e.o.r.g.e... 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yeah, what the hell was Lex talking about in BvS?
He's not all good, or all powerful. He's just a guy "trying" to do the right thing, and I don't see how ANYTHING in Lex's plan serves to prove otherwise.
I don't get why anyone is even concerned with Superman's intentions or allegiances. Lois has had 18 months to "stage" an interview with Superman to ask him the important questions on everyone's mind. It shouldn't take a subpoena to bring him out into the world.
Nobody in the movie shows any real interest in Aliens until it serves the plot. The wreckage in the Indian Ocean is untouched, and Clark is too busy being shuffled around to do different types of journalism every day... except for the kind that really matters.
Why is he even allowing his birthright to fall into the hands of shady business men instead of hiding it away in a glacier or something? A Kryptonian computer might prove useful for understanding more than Jor-El gave him in the brief 30 second explanation of their history.
Also, why isn't Batman renting a rickety canoe to find his own Kryptonite, he seems oblivious to the whole thing despite it being his obsession. Don't you dare bring up the White Portuguese...

I agree with the OP there: MCU's Steve Rogers feels more like Superman than Snyder's Superman. He's guided by his conscience, ideals and belief in people. He (well almost) always does the right thing. He's a fish out of water who's naiive, inspires others, is kind to his enemies, is seen as a relic from a better time. And his movies are more about how cynical, modern characters react to him and learn from him (Iron Man giving his life in Avengers, Black Widow opening up) than any arc of his own.
Sure he's got no code against killing, no secret identity, can't fly and he's very much a military man, but MCU Cap has a lot in common with Superman. I'd even say that Snyder's Superman is more akin to Iron Man or Spider-man, with his agonising over responsibilities, buckling under the burden of his powers, making mistakes and fear of failing to live up to parent figures.

I sure hope so. He's done some great work and really has a sense for what makes DC so special.
I think this actually highlights a big flaw in the DCCU, actually. Where Marvel gave us Iron Man, then Hulk, then Thor, and so on, DC gave us Superman and then more Superman, all from the same guy. Zack Snyder has the biggest influence, and having one voice shout above the rest like that is only going to make it harder, especially when that voice is as divisive and...flawed...as Snyder's. Hopefully he'll be influenced enough by the recent changes, Johns included, and by Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman that Justice League will be less of a Zack Snyder movie and more of a Justice League movie.

It is said that Thor Refuses to use any more then 1/3 of his overall strength, power, rune magic, etc. Because he fears he might destroy the earth. It even says in Thor 1 movie that The hammer can save or destroy worlds.
He is not useless without his hammer btw. He can go toe to toe with hulk and actually beat him sometimes, depending on who is writing the story.

I get where you come from. I think Snyder really wanted to explore what we've been seeing so far. The first movie was him figuring out who he was. The second movie skips forward 18 months and isn't really intended to be exploring Superman, instead the Batman v Superman. A good idea may have been to put a Man of Steel 2 out last year along with a Batman reboot showing the older Batman. You build up Superman as what you're saying and in Batman you see how he's losing his marbles. Then you make BvS.
I'm personally fine with BvS. I get that you can't tell every story you want to because you have two hours every few years. I saw all 10 years of Smallville so I get all of the more hopeful stuff.
I also think Justice League was meant to be where he figures it out and becomes who we know Superman to be. Ultimate Jesus metaphor alert, but that's the impression I get hearing stuff from Snyder and Terrio.

    Why Superman DOESNT work:
    - Desperately tries to stop Zod from heat vision-ing a family
    - Snaps his neck because "there was no other option"
    - Screams in agony for "killing the bag guy"
    Why Iron Man DOES work:
    - Lures the bad guy, whom he's know all his life and was practically his father figure after his real father died, directly above his industrial arc reactor
    - Has his GIRLFRIEND overload the arc reactor so that he souls spot incinerate him for selling his weapons to terrorists
    - literally just says "Walk away from that you son of a bitch."
Difference: Marvel acknowledges that this is fiction, while DC tries and fails to make this more realistic with its morals (Alt. Ex: Batman literally running around murdering common thugs even tho his one rule is to never kill)

My favorite Superman moment is from Hitman #34 by Garth Ennis. When the Man of Steel reflects on his failure to save an incapacitated astronaut, Clark describes the look of horror in the man's eyes and recalls something to the effect of:
"I could tell what he was thinking: 'You're Superman... and you're not going to save me.' "
    Next panel is an explosion.
"And then God decided time was up."
To me, it was a fantastic way to convey Superman's burden without making him mopey and guilt-ridden. He understands his place, and that he is not omnipotent. Yet, he still feels sadness at being so close to someone in need who he ultimately couldn't save.
I also like Superman: for All Seasons by Jeph Loeb. After a kid is saved from falling to his death, he thanks Superman and compliments the costume. Clark responds with "Thanks. My mom made it for me."

Superman is the most emotionally intelligent character in all of fiction, that's what makes Snyder's take so frustrating. Never mind the death and the destruction (no matter how hard it is to do so), Snyder's Superman is quite frankly emotionally retarded.
Cavil is good and there are times in Man of Steel where I'm like: "Does Cavil know he's not in a Superman movie?" But there's only so much an actor can do. What the direction has Superman doing makes him look like a sociopath and Snyder's bizarre obsession with injecting his superhero movies with Jesus and Objectivism genuinely disturbs me.

I 99% agree. That's why I hated BvS, it completely ruined Superman. Completely. Cavil could be so great if they would just get the character right. Superman is not a dark, mopey, hopeless character, but that's how they keep portraying him. Its so wrong. The one part I disagree on is the Reeve Superman movies. They do hold up! Sure the special effects look bad compared to today, but it was the 70's. The story and the acting, and most importantly, the image of Superman it gave us, will always endure.

Trust me these fools in the comment section talking trash about Henry Cavill's Superman most likely aren't even Superman fans let alone DC fans. They say that Superman is dark, brooding, and boring. First of all his character isn't dark at all he is trying to find his way in this world as a human since he has (of course) been raised by average humans. Throughout MoS he was saving lives in fact that is what MoS was pretty much about. He saved a bunch of brats who were making fun of him from freaking drowning in a bus, He saved a bunch of people in the oil rig scene and he also saved metropolis from being destroyed by the last of his race. People also complain that he is too depressed and to glum in BvS. That is true but only because he was forced to kill the last of his kind. How would you feel if you found out that most of your race was destroyed and the only survivors were people who wanted to destroy the planet he grew up on.

yeah like the only live action version of batman who has not killed anyone is the Adam west batman. If you want a murder verse batman that would be the Burton Batman. Why call it the murder verse though? Marvel characters like the Avengers also have a no kill rule but they frequently kill and no one calls them out for it. The fucking Hulk is wanted by the US military for being a raging-murder beast and the avengers are still cool with him....to a point lol.

For me the definitive live action version is Dean Cain in the Lois & Clark New Adventures series.
There are a couple of scenes over those seasons of him talking people out of suicide and he does work very hard to balance the world-saving stuff with the low level stuff while also trying to live out a normal life. He does a great job, even though the show goes slightly over the top from time to time.

+Bluemew1234 when did batman kill anyone. I only remember that dream sequence and that was understandable. the world was in ruins. most ppl in that car sequence killed themselves by running into walls and trucks. batman sure did kill Harvey dent in the dark knight. how else did debt fall? also. he killed Hella ppl in the dark knight rises. he literally was shooting Talia at point blank range with missiles, calling her truck to flip, which killed her. also the Russian guy ain't dead, he's gonna be kgbeast. and this is a broken batman, he's given up on the world. he has had it with crime. yall are making it seem like superman & batman are walking around murdering ppl. batman murdered when his comic first started and used guns. that bs no killing rule was added in once he got popular with children. but in the end, it's still Bruce wayne. I brooding psychopath who beats the hell out of criminals. I honestly thought next to Michael keaton, he was the best batman

    • @Bluemew1234
      @Bluemew1234 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

In the Batmobile sequence, Batman shoots multiple cars until they explode with people in them. He also tethers the one car, drags it around until it flips multiple times, and slams it roof to roof into another car. There are also three henchmen in the back of the truck; after Batman slams the Batmobile through it and rips of most of the back, there are only two henchmen, a nameless dude and KGBeast.
Right before the warehouse scene, he shoots a line of trucks that have people in and on top of them until they explode.
During the warehouse scene, he throws a two people into a small area with a live hand grenade which explodes.
As we don't know the exact number of people in every car he blew up, my count is about 20 to 30 kills in one movie.
Burton's Batman managed 19 kills in two movies.
Nolan's Batman managed around 15 in three movies
Logically, KGBeast should be dead, especially with how people go on and on about how realistic the DC movies are.
For him to live would be completely ridiculous.
The no killing and no guns rules were actually added to differentiate Batman from other similar characters of the time like The Shadow, not because he was popular with children.
Very few people are saying that Affleck was bad in this movie. He's probably turned in one of the best performances of the character.
The problem is with the writing for Batman. He's being written completely different than he should be. No matter how good Affleck's performance, the actual character is deeply flawed.

I agree that the characterization of Superman in Superman: The Movie is spot on, but that wasn't made by WB. Alexander Salkind purchased the movie license from WB and made the film without the studio's involvement. WB only handled the distribution, and had zero creative control. That didn't happen until Superman Returns, when the license's new owner, Jon Peters began working with WB.

Could've had Zod receive some sort of radiation poisoning from the opening of the phantom zone; taking effect during their climactic battle, Superman's hero moment coming when he saves Zod, with the villain left in a depowered/stasis situation.
I don't know if it's still current, but I remember Supes having a Kryptonian, or Daxamite, best friend that was forced to stay in the phantom zone because it nulified his Kryptonite, or lead, poisoning.

Superman can't catch a break. On day one, and inexperienced in dealing with planetary catastrophe, he had to take on a Kryptonian army, led by a General who was willing to kill off the human race, so that he can rebuild a new Krypton on Earth. Superman, with the help of Lois, A scientist, and some distractive maneuvers from the U.S. Armed Forces manages to reopen, and trap Zod's army, in the Phantom Zone. Feeling that he has lost everything, Zod goes all out on Superman. There is no time for Superman to save anyone, as Zod is on him every second. Superman finally overpowers Zod, and pins him down. Zod sees Superman's compassion for Earth and it inhabitants, and recognizes his weakness (pre-kryptonite, obviously). He will begin to kill off every human being. Zod's heatvision is about to disintegrate a family, and Superman is presented with a moral dilemma. Seeing no way to stop Zod without ending him, he snaps his neck. Guilt, frustration, and his powerlessness to avoid this situation all rush in.
In BvS, 18 months have passed, he saves people, not only in the States, but around the world. He still struggles with the events that come back to haunt him from MoS, and has to deal with the fallout as many don't see him as a hero, but an alien who invited a grandscale disaster to their world. Before he can publicly testify on the events that happened 18 months prior, he is denied that as the room is blown to hell. On top of that, a pissed off Batman, whose anger is being manipulated, in order to take out Superman, by Lex, is calling him out. Superman is forced into fighting Batman when Lex reveals he has his mother, and will kill her if he doesn't kill Batman. Superman doesn't want to fight Batman, and chooses to reason with him so they can save his mother, and stop Lex. Batman's rage keeps him from hearing Superman out, and nearly kills him. Superman accepts his death, but cries out to save Martha. This triggers Batman's past. His mother being shot down infront of him, and his father's last words "Martha". When he exclaims to Superman why he says that name, Lois comes in to say it's his mother. That's when he realized that he almost killed someone who wasn't a heartless machine, but someone who cared for others, and was cared for in return. The cold fury within him vanished, and he begins to reflect his former self. The heroic persona the saves the weak from the villains. Batman tells him Martha won't die tonight, and saves her saying not to worry he is her son's "friend". Superman tries to stop Lex, but is met by Doomsday who almost kills Lex but is SAVED by Superman. Superman gets nuked while holding tight so that Doomsday doesn't escape the blast. Eventually, Superman sacrifices himself to kill Doomsday, who stabs Superman with the sharp bone that grew out of his stump when Wonder Woman cut his arm off. At Clark's funeral, Bruce vows to bring other metahumans together so the vision of a possible future doesn't become a reality. He then visits Lex' cell to learn what was/is his gameplan. Lex is paranoid, and warns that something is coming. We are the then treated to a hopeful scene where dirty Lois tossed into Clark's grave, briefly begins to levitate. fade to black.

I have always put Superman, Captain America, and Spiderman in a category of their own, as the most moral, selfless, upbeat, and hopeful heroes in comics. Shazam is in there too, but he isn't as well known.
Superman may be a lost cause in the near future, but Cap is great (in the movies). And here's hoping they get the other two right. I have faith in Marvel with Spidey, but DC better not give us anything but an upbeat Shazam. Shazam needs to be that hopeful Superman movie you were looking for, and NO killing.

My favorite Superman moment isn't even from a Superman comic, but from a Nightwing comic.
Nightwing is patrolling a park when Superman comes down to have a convo with him about the hero life and the tolls it can take. A security guard finds them and says "Oh, Thank God it was you two. Looks like we'll be safe tonight."
To which Superman says "You mean because of us 3. Right officer?"
It's that simple moment of Superman letting the average Joes know that their work is just as important as his.

One of my favorite Superman moments comes from Superman Red Son. For those of you who don't know Superman Red Son is a what if story about what would happen if Superman landed in the USSR during the cold war instead of in Smallville. During the comic he hears an American cry out for help. Superman takes a second to think about it and says "They're not my people...but I never refuse a cry for help."
Shortly afterwards we get this panel: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/f8/2a/17/f82a17051e50fc0850794c3eb9da3f2a.jpg Honestly this picture is one of the first things I think of when I think of what Superman should be, a man who no matter the situation will try to save as many lives as possible, yet never thinks any problem is beneath him and will go the extra mile to give a little boy his balloon back.
The Entirety of All Star Superman and the "Thanks, my mom made it for me" line from A Superman for all seasons are some of my other favorite Superman moments.
P.S I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry during the "Not Superman" montage at the end.

    • @ItsMichaelReid
      @ItsMichaelReid 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

So instead of having Him become Superman as we know him in one film like it's been they're spreading apart? That's as dumb as Sony's Amazing Spiderman plan which is Pete didn't learn responsibility after his uncle died he learns it throughout the films. That's super stupid. We didnt pay to see Superboy we came to super motherflippin Man. Clark can't afford not to be ready when he's wearing the costume. That's the whole point of Martha and Johnathon Kent to get him ready to become Supes by teaching him good values and morals and Jor-El point is to verify Clark's hopes and for him to no longer fear who he is and to embrace it. But instead we have a mom that thinks Clark doesn't owe the world a thing which btw....he kinda does seeing if it wasn't for this planet he would've been killed and all of Kryptons legacy would be destroyed. Not to mention you the mom are Human so he owes the planet on the fact that you flipping exist and helped him. What do I know?

    • @ItsMichaelReid
      @ItsMichaelReid 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Danny Malzahn Thats the point of Supes! He's supposed to be seemingly perfect! Its when he's alone or as Clark Kent does it seem he's really feels the world on his shoulders. He tries to make an example for other people to follow. There's a reason why people compare Captain America and Supes and its not just because their both patriotic. They seemingly look like perfect individuals keep being told their values are outdated or wrong but Supes and Cap stand their ground stick to the values they were taught. They're biggest fear/flaw is the fear of failing to act when there's a 1% chance that they could've. Thats why Supes constantly travels around the globe and Cap hates himself if he freezes up due to shock. And Jonathan and Martha are supposed to help become confident in his abilities and truly master them. He doesn't know his limits sure but because he's never truly been able to and really doesn't know how because of it .And those two people are supposed to represent the best humans can potentially be and thats enough for him to have faith in Earth and feel obligated to protect his home.

While I may have outgrown Superman, Back when I was reading the comics - Superman DID kill... He tried to avoid it - but it was NOT always possible... And no one can tell me that Zod lived in the original Superman II - He was robbed of his powers and Kal-El pushed him over a crevice in the fortress of Solitude!!! ZOD WAS STRAIGHT UP MURDERED BY SUPERMAN!)

Mr. Sunday Movies when you said that if WB doesn't make a real Superman movie soon someone else will somebody already has and it is called Captain America the First Avenger. To me that movie is the most underrated MCU film and while I will agree the third act is a bit of a mess with the montage scenes the first two acts to that movie are perfect. There isn't a hint of irony in that movie. Never once does a character wink to the camera or roll their eyes at Cap being Cap. We are never given a character who questions that Cap is too corny or something along those lines. They present Cap as Cap and he is man who does good to do good. He truly believes in what he does and will put himself on the line to save those in need. The best Superman since 1978 is Captain America.

I have a few issues with what he is saying.
We did have a moment like the Pa Kent thing in 1978. It was with the speech Jor-El gave Clark in MoS before he flew off. MCU Captain America wasn't exactly fully hopeful in his movies.
He gets confused a lot too. He has an internal struggle just like DCEU
Superman does. I don't remember any hero automatically being hopeful and
knowing what to do from the minute they suit up.DCEU Superman is hopeful and inspiring to the audience and within
the movie. That whole scene of him taking his first flight in MoS where
he's flying and smiling pretty much tells us that no matter how many
times we fall down. We have to get back up. They dedicated a statue to
him in BvS, he had supporters in the government until Lex framed him,
the US government gave him a funeral after realizing he was innocent and
a hero, and he inspired Batman to go down a path of redemption where
he's going to stop killing and has him on a quest to assemble the JL. This Superman is like any hero at this point. He's a rookie. He
knows he has powers but he doesn't know what all of them are, how to
fully limit them or control them. Of course he's going to make a ton of
mistakes. How many did Batman make starting out? How many did Spider-Man
make? How many did Captain America make? Plenty. I could go on and on.
Before the DCEU, I didn't even care about Superman because he didn't
seem like a simple character. He just seemed like this invincible god
with no real weakness and had everything and made no mistakes. I've
always sided with Batman because he's always embodied what a lot of
people go through in their daily lives. He's witnessed loss, made so
many mistakes in his career, struggles with being Batman and Bruce
Wayne, and a no-killing rule that he wants to break. With the DCEU, I
actually am liking Superman because I'm starting to see this side to him
that isn't often shown. We see that DC's golden boy isn't all he's
cracked up to be. He's like all of us. He's weak, vulnerable, makes
mistakes, and while he does that he will learn from them. He will slowly
form into the quintessential hopeful bright guy that people are
proclaiming he isn't despite some of the feats he's pulled off in just
    two films.
In all honesty I have to say that this Superman isn't broken. He's
fresh and new. He represents how a modern hero would rise after a
cataclysmic event like 9/11 and/or the Battle of Metropolis and is
wanting to figure out how he can inspire people but he's not sure.
Everyone gives him flack. He is going off of some of the very rare
Superman stories that don't sugarcoat who he is in the way that Superman
(1978), Grant Morrison, and the DCAU to some extent did. This is the
Superman that comes from John Byrne's and Dan Jurgens' imagination,
Superman: Earth One, Superman Birthright, and Secret Origins. This is
the one for today and for tomorrow. This is the one we can relate to.
Not the untranslatable god in the sky that you can't connect with
    immediately.

I think, if we're being honest, we're being to hard on Superman.
The fact of the matter is, at least in this universe, Superman is tasked with this impossible task of being the hope and inspiration to the entire world. But ultimately, he's just a boy from Kansas. I think the fact that he's not the perfect image of what we believe "Superman" should be reflects on his humanity. My favorite moment from BvS is during the newsreel of Superman saving people, and one of the newscasters says, "Maybe he isn't some Jesus or Devil figure, maybe he's just a guy trying to do the right thing."
I think we forget that sometimes doing the right thing is hard. And that's why i think this version of Superman works, is because he reflects the inevitable truth that sometimes even when we do the right thing it will be hard, we won't always enjoy it, and sometimes we'll fall short of that. And even if then we press on, even if we continue to press on, there's no guarantee the outcome will be good. I think that this Superman wouldn't work in this universe as the one you're speaking of James, as it wouldn't be authentic to the reality of the way this world is set.

Just to clear one thing up: The Jonathan Kent story about diverting a river DOES come into play. It's a parallel to how Clark feels about inadvertently killing people, ie. the desert. Jonathan went crazy over having killed his neighbor's horses and says his only salvation coming in the form of Martha Kent. Clark's moral battle between feeling guilty over the lives of others and continuing to attempt to save lives is aided by his love for Lois. Before he gives his life, he says "This is my world. You are my world" which pretty much sums everything up.

Favorite superman moment? ALL STAR Superman has everything I like about Supes... It makes me really sad that the current Supes is nothing like ALL STAR Superman. It makes me sad that people don't really know who superman is, and why should they know, the current movies makes him look like an asshole. I'm sad of how my favorite character is being represented.

This new Superman is just designed to cash in on the recent pseudo-nihilism trend. People think that the "dark" and "brooding" stuff looks cool. In actuality, these movies are not in the least bit dark. The good guys always win, the bad guys die or go to prison, and we get to see tons of mindless action.

What are you talking about. It's always been about action. That's why people go to see ACTION movies! Yea we want a good plot, but deep down all people want to see is a good superpower beat down. That's why we watch comic book movies! For the action!

Yes, I know that. Teenagers, guys in their 20s and people in general want to watch brainless, simplistic action movies, but they also want to feel like they're watching something deep and challenging. So the latest technique is to create a brainless action movie that's "dark" and "realistic" so that fans think they're watching a deep movie. In reality, these films are neither dark nor realistic, they just have harsh shadows, low saturation, and everyone speaks with grandiose dialogue. But that's enough for fans to think they're not watching a "kid's movie" - which apparently is what Marvel makes. Ironically Batman v Superman and Man of Steel have far more childish stories than most Marvel movies.
People also think that dark, nihilistic stuff looks cool. This trend has been growing recently. Dark costumes, grime-filled streets, desolated cities, and dour anti-heroes are really popular right now. So they made Superman and his universe "dark, gritty and realistic". It's really none of those things, but it's close enough that fans think they're watching a smart, challenging action movie.

Thank you so much for this comment, I have been arguing this same point with my friend since bvs came out.

+CapREX77 no one wants mindless action that makes no fucking sense. And no one especially wants a superman character in a movie to snap a villains neck and then linger on the shot of the snapped neck and have him scream out in agony. Warner is just trying to recapture what Nolan did with batman. Those films worked because Nolan made them. Not hack Snyder. Snyders idea of dark and realistic isn't intelligent stylistic crime noir, it's fucking buildings collapsing and the conflicted hero breaking the bad guys neck to save everyone.

+Fine Wine Daily we have Nolan to thank for it with the dark knight films. I love those movies but it seems like everything now is trying to ape what he did with a character meant to be in that kind of world.

I'm glad you asked. I enjoyed watching every single animated version of Superman meeting Batman, their dialog, their respective unmasking of each other and how they tease each other.
