I came here first due to alpha M, from all his shortcomings, he really tries to improve and learn. And when it comes to watches, there is no one I respect more than you TGV! Cheers
Thank you so much Alex, you are too kind. He is indeed a true gent and always helping people, he certainly changed my life for the better, many times and I am so happy to hear it was through him you found my channel. Onwards and ever upwards my friend! Best regards, TGV
I think it was the crazy collector guy who mentioned that if you ask most Rolex wearers to tell you about their Rolex, all they know is the cost and the value and nothing else. It’s more flex culture now than anything.
My great grandfather's Omega 19 movement pocket watch from 1900 still looks great, runs fine and is still servicable. If I can get a 120 year old watch serviced that means my current Omegas are great values.
Not really, because Swatch Group will not sell parts to independent watchmakers. When the watch needs to be serviced, you get to pay the AD price. Make sure you save up for that.
@@benjaminbarrera214 They try to get you to buy a new watch rather than sell you parts. My dad had a 1950s Omega Seamaster that he was gifted for his wedding 40 years ago. Unfortunately it had a non Omega crown. His scheming independent watchmaker replaced the crown and bracelet with generic parts & kept the originals 20 years ago after a service. So I tried to restore it back to original. I took the watch to an Omega boutique and asked for a replacement crown. They told me I had to put the watch in for an entire service for $1100 in order to receive new parts. They knew damn well the watch wasn't worth servicing so they try to sell me a new Seamaster. NEVER again have I walked back into an Omega boutique. I sold my entire collection of 10 Omegas after that. Ironically my brother bought a cheap plastic MoonSwatch and recently visited the Omega boutique and they happily sold him a $270 nato strap.
It is so satisfying to watch true, well thought out, properly articulated analysis. When you see some of the 'drama' being introduced into the watch world you know something is amiss. It is so unnecessary and, frankly, vulgar, but a clear consequence of the drive and desire for money that sits behind so much of the watch content nowadays. True, independent, enthusiast or collector driven content is what inspires me. Thank you TGV 👏
For me Omega isn't about status, but a love I have for the brand. I gave my pre bond seamaster to my son for a graduation gift. After 20 years I finally had the opportunity to replace it with a master chronometer seamaster 300. I love the watch and what it means to me is more than what I paid.
Another thing to note is alpha m is conveniently forgetting that Rolexes used to go down in value after purchase. Now that ADs are selling to gray market dealers and flippers, the fake scarcity is driving prices up. By his logic, a BMW M3 is an overpriced car since it loses value.
I always appreciated the fact that your content is educational and explains what is behind a certain opinion you have. Its genuine. The Urban Gentry is what got me seriously into watches and 5 years later still the number 1 watch channel for me
@@theurbangentry If it wasn't for you I never would have bought my first watch a Squale Militare, which I love dearly and do use for watersports (the mother-in-law is a swimming instructor). I've since had my grandfather's 33mm Cornavin triple calendar restored which brings me great pleasure to wear on its old Smiths bracelet; far more than any brand-new gold Rolex ever could. Watches are far more than investments to be flipped for a profit they provide a link to our past and a guide to future generations.
Great content that puts the record straight!! I’m a Rolex owner and through the years have owned many. Omega was my first love and remains so, my Speedy was my first important watch and I hid the fact that I’d bought it from my parents. However my mum saw it on my wrist and said that’s new isn’t it ? … on me informing them that it was an Omega a silence of respect descended in the room.
Oh my lord - nearly fell out my chair there with the mention. Thanks so much! On the video topic itself, despite Omega being more of an analog brand - they made my two favourite digital watches - the Omega Equinoxe (you’d love the two tone version) and the first gen X-33. Bit more inclusive for us explorers and you wouldn’t get that with Rolex or Patek!
Hi TGV, It always comes back to personal opinion, doesn't it? 😊 I will always have pride in my Speedy and 1954 Seamaster DeVille. Thanks again for introducing me to the world of watches so many years ago. The passion lives on my friend. Best regards, John
🙌🙌🙌🙌 Grazie mille John, it certainly does. As always, happy to see you in the comments, your loyal support means the world to me. Onwards, ever upwards and Buona pasqua! Best regards, TGV
Fun fact: I personally asked Omega about its name origin. Omega is a greek word, it is actually the last letter in the greek alphabet (Ω) and it symbolizes "The perfection" "The greatness" and "The end of the journey". It literally means "great O" (Omega = "O, the mega"), and as you can see it is written as "O" sitting on a throne "Ω" :)
@@alexmckenzie42 I don't think it's connected with that words at all. In fact it seems like it's an ancient word appeared a lot earlier than Christianity did. This word is made of two parts, the letter "O" which is called "Omicron" and the word "Mega" which means as "Great". So you can write it as "Mega omicron", meaning "Great omicron", or "Mega O", or simply "Omega", as Greek language tends to be laconic.
You Americans, are the stupidest people in the world, you guys are idiots! How did you not know this already? You guys are religious freaks, in the Bible “ I am the Alpha and Omega” beginning and end! Alpha first letter in the Greek alphabet and omega the last….. Man go study for god sake!
Interestingly, Rolex is the only watch I've ever sold. I had a 6 digit, blue dial Yachmaster. It just wasn't worth it. I still have my Planet Ocean, Tudor, 2 Longines, Nomos and one Hamilton. Most people own Rolex only to try and impress others. They're great watches. They also attract tons of douchebags.
The thing that is great about most Omega owners on the TH-cam comment sections is they're lazy thinkers. No, I take that back. They love to think in cliches because it makes them feel better that the brand they love is simply not as desirable as a Rolex. So, what do they do? They cast the same ad hominem attacks on total strangers who desire or own a Rolex for WHATSOVER reason. Note, before you come at me with the usual cliched attack lines, i did not say Rolex was better I simply said it is more desirable in the marketplace. And that is not opinion, it is simply a matter of economic reality. And before you get back on your Omega high horse just take a look in the mirror and ask yourself was the last moonswatch roll out the act of a company that has absolutely no interest in generating Rolex like hype? I would if my market share was less 1/3 of the big dog and falling. And I say all this as someone who owns amongst other pieces a Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020 LE and a 1962 Constellation and who could care less what other people own nor why.
@david r the fact that anyone gives a shit about what others desire when they think about what they put on their body is pathetic. Problem is, that's most Rolex fan boys. I don't choose my suglasses or shoes based off others desires. Or I would have ugly shit Chinese made shoes and the same shit sunglasses popular on Instagram. I don't choose or wear watches based on others or their resale so that logic doesn't make alot of sense.
This may be my favorite intro you've done thus far. I really appreciate your perspective on Alpha M. It is important to humanize and remember the content creators are more than just their content and even if their content is not our cup of tea, we can still be kind and know there is a person who maybe helps other content creators that I appreciate. There was a time I needed black dress shows and my wingtips had fallen in disrepair and money was tight. A youtuber similar to Alpha M's channel had a great tutorial on how to repair, clean, condition and restore my shoes. Anyway, as always, thank you for the research you do, the quality of content you deliver, the thoughtful and enriching perspective, and the constant call to kindness in all things with all those we encounter.
Thanks for the reminder to choose our watches based on our own personality and style. People buy watches as status symbols, because of FOMO, hype, etc., miss an opportunity to express themselves. Not just with watches, but our clothes, cars, shoes, music, movies...any sort of personal choice. To make these decisions for the right reasons, we find out what our personality and style is really like, and we have learned something about ourselves!
I have to concur with Andrew here and I have said this probably more than once, but TGV, you really are streets above anyone else as an 'influencer' lol. I enjoy quite a few fellow influencers, but you stand out still. I think it comes down to being genuine, authentic and honest in your work. I do not see anyone come close to you in the content you produce. Sometimes I get a little excited and need a reality check and you help with this. Help me breathe and take stock of it all. I have always loved watches, but got real serious around 5 years ago and you were the first I took to. Keep up the great work and thank you.
My first luxury watch was an Omega Seamaster 300m. I bought it because I love how it makes me feel. The watch is special to me and I will always love it for a multitude of reasons.
To each's own.. But to me, the Speedy Moon Boy.. Looks stuuunnnnnning! And for the price! Same for the Master of the Sea Boy.. Again.. **chefs kiss** AND FOR THE PRICE!!! **looks like I need to change my trousers** I will say, for the Aquaterraboy.. The price doesn't QUITE line up with the complete range in my opinion.. It's a little more than the Master of the Sea Boy.... Last time I was bothered to check.. On the Rolex though.. If it's an investment you're after.. Buy a Rolex Boy. Fine. Get it.. Keep the flipping stickers on it, put it in a hermetically sealed box! Don't even BREATHE on it! I think any of those Omega offererings aren't so stupidly priced that you'd be scared to wear it, or to wear it hard..
I enjoyed this one immensely! I own an Omega Seamaster Electronic 300hz from 1971, an heirloom from my late father. It is such a unique watch, the design and the movement! And it is THICK and ROUND and I love it!!!
Pure class. I love the idea of having a perfect piece of engineering on my wrist. That is why I spent my hard earned money on an Omega. Love it, not a single regret... makes me smile everytime I check the time... john
The intros to these videos are some of the best I've seen on TH-cam. The editing and humour are always top notch i.m.o. These elements are always of consistent quality, much like the content 👍🏻
Despite, the collection of Citizens watches and one Seiko, I would love to own an Omega someday... Mr. Gentry sir, your respect and your vibes are so gentlemen and so darn Humble! ❤ Your inspiration has blossomed my watch collection and knowledge as well. Thank you, good sir. Much love and good vibes ✨️
Always love your content. I now have 13 watches. Don’t buy for anyone’s opinion or taste, other than my own. One Omega, that’s my favourite, given to me for my 21st birthday in 1985. Don’t know the dollar value, but absolutely love the sentiment. No one else’s opinion really matters. Keep up the great work & content. Thanks for being the 1st to really get me into collecting. Thanks,Paul.
I was about to erupt in a slew of pedestrian aspersions and you reminded me of the importance of being a gentleman. Thanks for being the voice of reason and excellence!
thanks to this channel i started to be intersted in watches, particular Seiko. I bought a SKX007, modded it and then sold it for a small profit, then bought a SARB035 and sold it after 1 year for the same money, then bought a prospex alpinist and sold it for a profit after 1 year. I enjoy watches just don t fancy collecting many. I will never ever buy a watch just for status. TGV, you are pure class!
Thank you for another great video. I am wearing my omega Seamaster aqua terra annual calendar. I’ve decided that for the cost this is the top of the line watch for me. I just traded a Tudor BB 41 blue dial for a 2016 Omega Seamaster aqua terra quartz, this watch was given to the US Olympic team for the Rio Olympics. To me my collection is complete. I am happy with each watch.
Very well put. To some amount I chose the Speedmaster as my first and for the time being only luxury watch because of the more restrained and relatively understated character of the brand compared to Rolex. I respect the quality of Rolex, but the brand name carries a lot of baggage and preconceptions in the public eye. And I´m glad that owning an Omega hasn´t diminished my enjoyment of my entry-level pieces like my very first Seiko 5 and also the Sinn 556i which I consider a mere classless watch given the robustess, unpretentious design and functionality-driven approach of the company. Keep following your own ideas - onwards, upwards and sometimes inwards. Cheers, Klaus
Alpha M doesn’t understand the basics here - the only reason Rolex appreciates is because they are hard to get, because people are buying them up for their investment value, which causes them to be hard to get, which increases the investment value and so on. In other words, its a bubble. It might never burst, but still a bubble type thing - its only worth so much because its hard to get because its worth so much. There is no reason for a Rolex to be worth what it is beyond simply the lack of availability. There’s nothing technically better about his Yacht master than an Omega Seamaster. In fact, the Seamaster with the co-axial movement is arguably a much better watch from a horology perspective. But because its more available, the after purchase value isn’t over inflated. So you can only think the way Aaron thinks if you only see re-sale value as that which matters in things. That attitude, is in fact the only reason Rolex is so popular and hard to get today. And this is a terrible thing because in order for the watch to fall into this category of absurd price appreciation, it must be super difficult or impossible to get. That ruins the hobby. You want a Rolex today and you have the cash? Good luck lol. You have to wait for months or years. So glad this isn’t the case for Omega and many other great brands. Imagine a world where you can’t ever get the watch you want because of this obsession with investment value. There’s really nothing very special about what’s inside most Rolexes. That’s why they don’t show it to you on almost all their models besides a couple brand new ones recently released.
Yes he did, but trust me, he has helped a lot of people and I consider him a great, inspiring person. I don't think he would promote something he didn't believe in. Even if that is a brand we obviously I don't agree on. But thank you, I appreciate the feedback. Best regards, TGV
@@theurbangentry Im sorry, but he made the Video how mvmt are better watches with better heritage than Rolex. You cant actually think he believes in that
I have never heard of the self-declared “super expert” D-bag you referenced here but I’ve been following you for a while and you’re dropping some truth bombs here. I have several Rolex but my Seamaster 300m chronograph is my favorite of them all. Omega is excellent (except when they collab for a plastic Swatch)
How is he a d-bag? Just because he brags about how successful he is? Or maybe you don't like the way he yells? The louder he talks, the more correct he must be, obviously.
Excellent presentation and very true about the hype-driven Rolex enthusiasts on TH-cam and elsewhere. Rolex comes nowhere near Omega. Like someone said, "Omega makes watches, Rolex sells them"
The intro alone I watched twice🤣 your video is on a different level. Can we appreciate the time took to do these. Well done Broski and I appreciate you to this day man, if it wasn't for you. With the state of this current watch circles and channels, I wouldn't even be watching! Then I see a TVG notification. And then I remember there's still hope.🤣👊🏾
Hello old friend. If I do another London event, please say you will attend, it would be great to finally meet you. I appreciate you too. It's late here in Philly, but this comment was a great way to end my night. Thank you as always my friend, stay safe out there. O&U! T.
What a great video. Needless to say, I agree with most of it. I do think that the Aqua Terra pricing is slightly out of sync in its own range (being significantly more expensive than say, the Seamaster Professional 300), but that's one single watch in the brand and not the brand itself. You're at the top of your game now TGV!
Great video at the end I will take an Omega over the Rolex any day of the week and twice on Sunday Bye the way I have owned 4 Omegas in my 60 years of age Keep the good work
The intro is Master class, the is no point in making hate videos about Alpha M everyone is allowed to form their own opinion even if that said opinion is a little out their and not well-informed when as a community need to learn that again and not just want to dog pile and hate some one for their opinion even if it's not the correct one, you never go on ban wagon and hate brigades you are always fair with your assessments of situations that why people respect your opinions so much great video.
Yeah, I quit watching Aaron when he was schilling MVMT watches wearing a root beer Rolex GMT Master II. At the end of the day, Aaron is a salesman. His whole brand is selling an image and a mythical lifestyle.
I love the way you express your opinion and welcome differing viewpoints in general TGV. I wish we had more people like that, we would all be in a much better life. Love Omega, own a Planet Ocean and an old bumper and plan to keep them for the long haul.
Great video and informative response TGV. Lucky enough to own 3 Omegas and love them, fantastic watches that have comparative quality to Rolex but a brand that attracts far less douchebags to put it politely. There are many watches on my radar from JLC, Zenith, IWC and Longines to name just a few. But truthfully, there's only one Rolex I'd genuinely like to own some day, a GMT 2 Rootbeer. I just find the brand as a whole largely unappealing and far too much snobbery surrounding them. Despite the still very expensive prices, brands like Omega just feel more down to earth, the boutiques more approachable and the kind of customers they attract far less stuck up.
Never thought I would see a “Frasier” reference (my all time favorite sitcom) on the Gentry! Lol! Editing is STILL unmatched after all these years. Bravo for another well done video my friend 👍
I actually found TGV about 8 or 9 years ago through Alpha M. I was also one of the first in the Facebook group. I bought my grail last week, my first Rolex Submariner. I saw this from Alpha and had a good chuckle, as I do at most of his hilarious takes.
I can understand why people think Omega is overpriced. In the last three years, they have raised prices considerably, had poor supply of new releases in local boutiques and dealers and released an endless number of special editions; all combined with a perception of quality that has dipped (just) a little. The best (worst) example of this was the handling of the moonswatch release combined with poor build quality which has left a bad taste in many collectors' mouths. (We know they can build superb quality watches, there is no excuse) I would love one of the new Aqua Terra Shades but with a list price of £6100 in the UK and no stock at my local dealer for over a year and with prices on the grey market unreasonably high it just isn't going to happen. For a similar amount, I can easily buy a choice of Cartier Santos' or Tanks from my local dealer which by comparison represent a better value for money option. ( I never thought I would say a Cartier was a value-for-money proposition in my life.) Omega has an amazing back catalogue of wonderful watches which makes them a top choice for vintage collectors; I really want the company to flourish in the future but in order to do that it needs to treat its customers with respect and dignity.
I'm a big of 'alpha M' as well, I love his channel but like a lot of general men's style channels I would never take his advice on a specialist topic like watches. For that, there's only one place to go and that's 'The Urban Gentry'. I also really like the fact you're not being negative about him or his channel, it shows your class. Given that you emphasised how much he has helped you in the past I actually found this video increased my appreciation of both your channels. Really fantastic content, makes me want to get an Omega even more than I already did which I didn't think was possible. That solid gold Seamaster (around the 18:10 min mark) is an absolutely stunning watch!
Some people are true reviewers of watches that represent the creme de le creme of knowledge and honesty. That can apply to watch reviewers whether in the affordable or luxury end of the market. TGV, you are an example of the best. I can only say that others are what we call "influencers". Influencers are on the lower rungs of the horological ladder. I tend not to pay any attention to them. I don't consider you an influencer, rather as an informer.....in the positive sense! I must admit that due to my careful choice of channels I follow, I've never even heard of this Aaron person. He would not come up to the standard of content I expect.
My first time watching one of your videos - it definitely won't be the last 🙂 My ex-wife swiped my Omega Seamster. It went with me on 15 years of service, in countless countries, parachute drops, etc, and when I opened the box after we divorced I found it empty, and the watch was gone. I have been searching for a suitable replacement for some time, and it will definitely be another Omega. Thanks for such an informative and well-produced video 🙂
Thanks for making videos like this. A hug from Spain. Honestly, I love the way things are covered on this channel. This illusion with which watches are presented makes those of us who have this hobby even more...By the way, the integrations with Hugo are simply great! A hug and...keep going like this!!
Every modern or vintage Omega I've bought second-hand has actually appreciated. If you started collecting vintage Speedmasters 20 or 30 years ago, you could divest today for a nice profit. But if you only got into watches recently, you are witnessing a lot of (necessary) price correction in the secondary market. I'm a little tired of Rolex content, price/investment content, and spec/value proposition talk. If a watch speaks to you, is decently well made, is available from a trustworthy source, and is priced fairly for the current market.....buy it if you can easily afford that price. Enjoy it for a long time. If you sell it years later, you can't really "lose" money. You know where the money is: it paid for the experience of owning the watch.
I think the key is "vintage" and "second hand". These watches already lost their "new watch value" and will remain steady or even increase in value over time (if kept in good condition). Luckily I like older watch designs and therefore mostly buy vintage/used watches. I never really lost money. If you always need the latest and greatest, yeah everything is a "rip off", if that is how you define depreciation.
@@heiner71 I don't disagree at all. I've also bought new from the Omega AD, and I never felt ripped off. People's definitions of value are elusive to me, but hopefully they are not formed only from TH-cam videos.
Hi TGV, thank you for another video. To be honest with you you're the only watch channel I'm still following since the onset of my fascination for wrist watches. One can feel you're a true enthusiast. Let me add that I recently got more into the watchmaking itself on an amateur level and I have 3 omega pocket watches. I had a cal18 from ~1910s I my hands and literally had tears in my eyes grateful to looking at a piece of art. I do get a little sad sometimes though that omega is more and more drifting intentionally towards high end luxury and away from just a high quality high durable robust product.
It’s surprising to me that Jody from Just One More Watch isn’t among the TH-cam watch channels that you like and trust. I considered Jody to be one of the most straight up honest watch reviewers I’ve found in my 7+ years of exploring watch world on TH-cam. And you are included in that group, BTW.
Excellent video,TGV🎉🎉. Loved the intro. Superb as always. Lovely to see Hugo doing well. Before this video, I had no clue who Alpha M is. I still don’t. Doesn’t seem like my kind of genre…looks a bit like the Archie Luxury vibe. Just not my thing. But I see his point, if I understand it correctly. He is wrong to say that Omega is a Ripoff. It is not a Ripoff. But..... I in no way think that Omega is the best value for money. Nor is Rolex. I don’t buy my watches as investments. I buy them for MY enjoyment. I would probably say that Omegas are probably fairly priced. Rolex is probably over priced. Omega seems to rest too much on its laurels. It is very dependent on the Speedmaster and the Bond watches to stay viable. The Aquaterra is probably a BETTER watch for its niche than the other two. But they are NOT the best value for money. While I love the history of Omega, they ARE NOT who they used to be and the Swatch group association and the mass market connotations significantly reduces the desirability and it would seem the quality of the pieces has been slipping over the last few years. To me, Tudor provides more value for money while integrating modern concepts and materials into historically significant designs. Omega does have a far larger catalogue spreading across many types of watches, but it is highly unlikely that the brand could continue if the Speedmaster and Seamaster lines were removed. Meaning that without the Bond/space association, which is pure marketing, the brand would not be viable as it is. You mentioned that they recently did a “Dan Henry”. I COMPLETELY disagree. DH takes historically significant pieces and makes QUALITY timepieces that provide a way to enjoy these eras and pieces affordably. The MoonSwatch is NOT quality and is meant to be a throwaway. That is HUGELY OVERPRICED. We rarely disagree, my friend, but Omega today is NOT the Omega of your Seamaster or Deville. It is a corporate arm of a conglomerate that is using its historical significance to maintain a current niche market. Rolex ….you hit that spot on. To me, Tudor, truly is the best value for money. It beats the price points of both Omega and Rolex, performs as well or better, and has similar historical significance. It does not have the high end complications or breadth of catalogue but it excels at what it does. Regardless, my opinion is of little value other than the time it took to write it. Your videos and productions are superb, and I enjoyed this as much as any you have made. Omega makes a fantastic watch. There is a smorgasbord of quality watches from which we enthusiasts can choose and enjoy. I hope any Omega owner out there loves their piece. I just don’t think I’d call it best value available. Thank you as always, dear friend. Hope you and yours are well. Onward and upward. Be well.
That 4 splits frame just summed up Omega perfectly. There's Rolexs for a half mil, but non have an in house chrono repeater! there's just no contest when it comes to horology between the two.
The prices of Rolex watches have more to do with speculators than any real consideration of value. I happen to love my Omega Seamaster ref. 2220.80.00 on a blue and red NATO strap and wear it whenever I can without a care about resale value.
Thanks for your reasoned perspective TGV. I prefer Omega to Rolex (have owned/own both) because it better fits my style and personality….and I keep them (re-sale doesn’t matter). Buy what you love and enjoy!!
At the end, what Aaron said... the world is a Ripoff, right ? This is why i love your channel, it's not about bling bling it's about the passion of watches and especially you around the history of the brand. I learned so much with you, that I respect a certain brand more and more, that I only knew the name in the past. I even discovered Swiss brands that I did not know, a crime knowing that I am a Swiss citizen. It even became a topic of conversation in my family now. PS For Aaron... I think, the goal was making a drama for more views, but it can be dangerous, he will trap himself in a bad hype...
It's a good point that most things we wear don't continue to have value. I don't expect my shoes to triple in price. Nor do I ever plan to sell my Rolex. I bought it because it is perfection and I love it.
Federico and John P from Delray Watches are some really cool watch dealers on youtube. They are genuinely passionate and give lots of attention to smaller brands. Cool dudes.
I have never purchased from them, so I can not honestly attest to their service, may I ask how have you faired with them as I am not familiar with this brand? I have been burnt many times by other TH-cam watch dealers, so forgive me if I am skeptical. Thank you for watching, Best regards, TGV
@@theurbangentry so you're trying to say you don't know Federico. You fake your past like you fake your present. You don't seem genuine at all. Will this comment last long?
Great as always TGV. Until you have had the chance to own both it’s hard to have a balanced opinion. I would hate to be told I could only buy Rolex as a “good” watch, I’m always looking at what Omega is up to next each year, or Tudor around W&W , or a stack of other brands for that matter. You get caught up in it all. Many of these guys couldn’t care less, it’s only what Rolex is doing. To me that is a massive red flag, disingenuous is the vibe I get. Never with you, legend 😇
Agreed, no matter how great someones watch collection might be if you can't appreciate ANY cheaper or less known watch brands you are not a watch enthusiast but an egomaniac. Anybody I met who was truly into watches could appreciate a cool Seiko, Hamilton, Longines, Tudor, Omega or hell even a Casio. If the only watches you value are the most popular Rolex models then sorry you are not into watches but just there to show off. It would be like a car guy that just appreciates the newest Porsche models and can't appreciate the beauty of a Mercedes Oldtimer or hell a Mazda Miata for that matter. Sure Porsche and Rolex are amazing but first of all they are not the pinnacle of their respective fields and there is beauty to be found in so many different things that if you can't see that you are either very new to the hobby or just want your choices validated to boost your ego.
I think you make a great point about how the You Tube watch space has changed. I agree with you about the amount of dealers or influencers who have flooded into the space. I personally get turned off by all the shouting, constant focus on price, the drama and thinly veiled attempts at independence. I find much more enjoyment, and dare I say it, education in Chanel’s like yours and @illuminating_watches than I do from some of the so called ‘bigger’ watch channels. Stumbled across your channel back in the day and have been a subscriber ever since for many of the points you make in this video. There is so much more to this ‘hobby’ than the price of the watch. Thank you for all the effort you clearly put into your videos. 🙏
Ci sono tanti canali di orologeria molto belli. ma nessuno come il tuo! Dalla qualita' del video ai contenuti e le analisi a cui, francamente, nessun altro si avvicina. Sei un grande! keep at it man!
The only Rolex I'm only interested in ever having is a Datejust in two-tone with champagne dial simply because of looks. But for the time being I'm with my grandfathered Reverso, my own Seamaster, Hamilton Mechanical Bronze and Nomos Tangente dress watch
Amazing intro as always and great points in the video! I also appreciate your ability to disagree with someone on a singular point without completely vilifying the person entirely, it has become a lost skill these days. Great work T!
If Omega is a rip-off, then so are most luxury watch brands. I do think they go farther than most with their emphasis on limited editions and taking advantage of customer FOMO. However it is common practice in all luxury brands to artificially keep their prices up in order to attract a different type of customer and to feign their high end status.
Basically every luxury product is a ripoff - you pay for brand not for quality (at least compared to the mark up over non-luxury brands). The Rolex Submariner is a great reliable watch...The Seiko SKX was a great reliable watch. The Rolex MIGHT last longer and and might be more accurate but I don't wear the same watch every day (or every week) so I end up setting my watches on a regular basis. The differences between stated tolerances of the Rolex and Seiko movements wouldn't vary enough to matter for a normal human. If you take the money you saved buying the non-luxury Seiko you would have enough money for ever to repair/replace your Seiko and have a better investment vehicle than the Rolex. Rolex's have appreciated but they don't appreciate as well if you actually wear the watch and don't baby it. Luxury stuff is pretty much a scam. In the clothing world most luxury clothes are made in cheap factories in Asia and the quality is marginally, if at all, better than the stuff sold by any large brand. When you buy luxury brands you are often trying to look like you have money. I bought a new Rolex a few years back but I don't wear it often to public events simply because I don't need to be Rolex guy but I'll wear it while I lift weight in my home gym or skiing where no one every sees what is on my wrist. If you want to seem rich... don't buy luxury crap and invest your dollars. You'll actually get rich instead of just looking it.
Mi sento libero di scriverti in italiano perché rimango stupito ogni volta che ti sento parlarlo, i miei più sentiti complimenti da un Toscano appassionato di orologi e di buone maniere campi nei quali eccelli! Keep up with your amazing job!
I agree that Omega is now getting too expensive. I’m in the market for a diver in the region of £3-4k. I can buy a new Tudor with a 5 year warranty, or a second hand Omega with a 1 year warranty which I know from experience will have to be serviced shortly after the warranty expires. I’m an Omega guy from my teens but the aqua terra is not worth £5k, and the Speedy is not worth £6k. These were retailing for less than half that not ten years ago. Shameful.
Ah that Omega ploprof I would love one of those such a unique looking piece. Love your gold omega I own a 60s seamaster but the dial is damaged and always wondered should I splash the cash and send it tom Omega in Switzerland for a full restoration?
The only items I bought new that grew some value are two guitar effects pedal: a Maxon Apex and a Klon KTR. This because of an overheated collectors' market. This created a problem. They are now hard to value and off my pedalboards. They were replaced with a Maxon 808 and a J Rockett Archer, respectively.
Brilliant video. True that from an investment perspective Omega is terrible. But to us Plebs who can only buy on the second hand market, the drop in price is welcome. Cheers.
Hi TGV! If I could only own one luxury watch it would still be an Omega Aqua Terra! I would buy it on a bracelet but would wear it on the Omega rubber or a nice leather strap most of the time. Best regards, Claus
Omega has been playing catch up with Rolex for the last 50 years. The crown reigns supreme.

Thank you very much for your videos. I have been collecting for more than 60 years (I am an old man), and Omega, since I began was always associated with precision and engineering ( I am one too). It is good than young people like you appreciate watches. I have survived the quartz crisis and smartwatches too. Mille grazie!!! My ancestors came from Italia too. Mille grazie, Patagonia, Argentina.
I sure am glad I fell into the right hands as for when it comes to learning about watches...👌🏼 I can fully see that I'm in a righteous place and will gather a full education on thus topics...🤘🏼💯✔️
I remember being recommended one of his videos and thought I was watching an Andrew Tate parody. Naturally I stopped watching when it became apparent that he wasn’t doing comedy. I’ve only watched one video of his so my opinion might not be accurate. But he seems like a grown man with a teen brain.
Really nice to see a mature, nuanced discussion about someone’s opinion, as well as highlighting the importance of manners and decency online. Nice one TGV
If you knew nothing about watches, and you watched this video, and ANYTHING from Alpha M; honestly, who would you trust? Excellent work as always, TGV.
TGV great video, amazing and hilarious editing…You opened the doors of watch perception to me and your taste is impeccable…I wonder why you insist so much in the fact that watch dealers cannot be reviewers….Marc is both…and I find him very informative and I am also a customer ….And he might not be the only one dealing and also reviewing …and being good at both…you can be passionate about something, appreciate the historical relevance, the art …and make money from it….This channel, to some (maybe lesser) extent is not an exception ….each gentlemen can form an opinion taking into account possible biases from the reviewers…but stating only you and your pals have no biases suggests the opposite !! Keep the good work and keep it real….Ciao!
Hi TGV, Great video as always, and I agree with a lot of what you said, but there is one thing about the MODERN Omegas that I do not like and that is the price. I can not afford either Rolex or Omega, but when I was younger the sight of Pierce Brosnan wearing an Omega and seeing it in a shop window was something, and although it was expensive it felt, well, it could be possible one day with saving some money. Today, I see the latest Bond watches and the price is eye watering. It is obviously over inflated because it is a Bond watch. That is my problem with todays Omega I feel that the price that they are asking for is not worth what they are selling I see the price and if I had the money that I would be conned. It is not just the Bond Omegas. It feels like it with their whole range. I still could not afford it, but if I was to get a new watch, the new Tudors that were just released felt like they were worth the money. It feels like you are getting a modern watch with great design for an agreeable price for what it is.
Great video, as always. Love seeing Hugo. While Omega is a great brand with a storied history and diverse collection, it is far from the best value Swiss luxury brand in 2023. In looking at value from an economist's viewpoint, one must include in the equation the resale value of any material good. This is where Rolex, Patek and AP shine far brighter than Omega.
I really enjoy your channel, one of the most if not the best channel offering unbiased, real interpretations of the watch market and watches like the way you did this episode. Beautifully presented. Paul Thorpe is also another true commentator. Keep up the work. Im now on the hunt for an Omega Flight Master, and or your gold seamaster shown at the end of your episode, lol. Thank you
Thought provoking...... I have recently sold most of my higher value watches, one reason is I don't have the opportunities to wear them now I am retired, but I have found greater pleasure in owning and wearing cheaper, beater watches, that I can wear without fear of being robbed, or worry about value..... but I still get huge pleasure in wearing.

Yeah man, I actually respect Alpha M and all he does. But even he needs a helping hand with some knowledge.
No he's not wrong Rolex is a ripoff too, sadly they work together as compared to Rolex Omega is a bargain

🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏 Good one, thank you.

@@theurbangentry I endorse this understated response.
....and surely he exercises his entitlement a lot 😂😂😂....
I think it was the crazy collector guy who mentioned that if you ask most Rolex wearers to tell you about their Rolex, all they know is the cost and the value and nothing else. It’s more flex culture now than anything.
Alpha M... the M is short for MVMT, cos he shills for them
My great grandfather's Omega 19 movement pocket watch from 1900 still looks great, runs fine and is still servicable. If I can get a 120 year old watch serviced that means my current Omegas are great values.
Yeah and trigger had a brand new broom for 30 years... How do you know the movement wasn't replaced a few times, incrementally?
Not really, because Swatch Group will not sell parts to independent watchmakers. When the watch needs to be serviced, you get to pay the AD price. Make sure you save up for that.
Lmao what...? 😂
The movemenenrs are good...but the prices of the new watches are a joke
Alpha M? Wrong about something? No way!
I can’t even guess how many hours went into this. The production design and editing are amazing. Salute to everyone who was involved.
It must be worth it for him to create theee narratives.
I concur 👍
Not just for you, but for everybody else. Omega has never been associated with status and that's what I absolutely love about the brand.
The Urban Gentry is what got me seriously into watches and 5 years later still the number 1 watch channel for me
You just made my day. Thank you, onwards and upwards!

The equinoxe??? I must delve into that. The X33, superb, saw a full set in the UK for 2.6K. Tempting.
The cinematography of TGV is hitting new highs 👏
Hi TGV, It always comes back to personal opinion, doesn't it? 😊 I will always have pride in my Speedy and 1954 Seamaster DeVille. Thanks again for introducing me to the world of watches so many years ago. The passion lives on my friend. Best regards, John

I’ll chose OMEGA over a “rolex” any day!!!!!!!!
Who cares
What makes you happy
Personally, I prefer Rolex. Many other brands at fraction of the price is just as enjoyable.
I owned Omega and still own two Rolex and I find Rolex alot more comfortable and wear better
I wouldn't be surprised it it was linguistically related to the Indian "Om" or "Aum", which in turn is connected to the Christian "Amen", I believe.
As opposed to omicron which is little o. A nice way of explaining how pronouncing the words vary
@@alexmckenzie42 yea nah.
And Theives! 😢
@@davidr2802 You seem upset.
Keep cool mate !
The watch is special to me and I will always love it for a multitude of reasons.
tgv vs alpha male is the feud I needed
As a proud "cat guy" I approve that intro.
IMO Omega is pretty good bang for buck.
Especially pre-owned 👌
To each's own..
But to me, the Speedy Moon Boy.. Looks stuuunnnnnning!
And for the price!
Same for the Master of the Sea Boy.. Again.. **chefs kiss**
AND FOR THE PRICE!!! **looks like I need to change my trousers**
I will say, for the Aquaterraboy..
“You vote with your time”, well said TGV. Fantastic video 👏🏽
I enjoyed this one immensely!
I own an Omega Seamaster Electronic 300hz from 1971, an heirloom from my late father. It is such a unique watch, the design and the movement! And it is THICK and ROUND and I love it!!!

thanks to this channel i started to be intersted in watches, particular Seiko.
Cheers,
Klaus
I genuinely love the production quality of TGV's videos.
Isn’t that the same guy who was promoting Daniel Wellington / MVMT ? No way I would take anything he says seriously.
Yes he did, but trust me, he has helped a lot of people and I consider him a great, inspiring person. I don't think he would promote something he didn't believe in. Even if that is a brand we obviously I don't agree on. But thank you, I appreciate the feedback.

This tool was endorsing MVMT....so yeah he is wrong....
Yeah, I quit watching Aaron when he was schilling MVMT watches wearing a root beer Rolex GMT Master II. At the end of the day, Aaron is a salesman. His whole brand is selling an image and a mythical lifestyle.
They paid him.
(We know they can build superb quality watches, there is no excuse)
I would love one of the new Aqua Terra Shades but with a list price of £6100 in the UK and no stock at my local dealer for over a year and with prices on the grey market unreasonably high it just isn't going to happen. For a similar amount, I can easily buy a choice of Cartier Santos' or Tanks from my local dealer which by comparison represent a better value for money option. ( I never thought I would say a Cartier was a value-for-money proposition in my life.)
Omega has an amazing back catalogue of wonderful watches which makes them a top choice for vintage collectors; I really want the company to flourish in the future but in order to do that it needs to treat its customers with respect and dignity.
Never mind about what Alpha M thinks. What does Hugo M think?
I own an Omega Maison Fondee 1848 which settles the luxury watch slot in my collection nicely.
My first time watching one of your videos - it definitely won't be the last 🙂
My ex-wife swiped my Omega Seamster.
Respectful and classy as ever, TGV. Another great video.
Italian’s like their disses ice cold just like revenge
Brilliant video. I'm wearing a 1960s pie pan right now, and I'd take it over a vintage datejust any day.
I’d take them both!
@@martinkaplan1805 hehehe I wouldn't mind a fluted bezel DJ to be fair.
Thank you for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry so you're trying to say you don't know Federico. You fake your past like you fake your present. You don't seem genuine at all. Will this comment last long?
Good old fashioned schooling! Love it! Bravo TGV 👏 👏 👏
You are too kind Stefano, mille grazie amico 😎🥂
O&U!

The only Rolex I'm only interested in ever having is a Datejust in two-tone with champagne dial simply because of looks.
But for the time being I'm with my grandfathered Reverso, my own Seamaster, Hamilton Mechanical Bronze and Nomos Tangente dress watch
Moonwatch Professional is definitely overpriced at $7200. Omega still makes great watches though
Bulova Moon watch only 700 or less !
Very true about the limited editions, so true. Thank you for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
Omega is much less of a rip-off than Patek, VC or AP.
@@pacovl46 I don’t get patek especially the entry level ones
Some people claim every divewatch is a rolex ripoff. 😂 they forget there were many waterproof watches before rolex...

Shameful.
They're not charities you know, it's a business. Shameful isn't the correct descriptor
Just like Rolex are not worth their price tag.
"...non me ne frega un cazzo..."
Very well enunciated and in the correct context...bravo, well done!!
A true horology connoisseur would pay no attention to Omega. Hulex is the ultimate timepiece. 😂
You’ll probably lose an arm or a leg to get one😅
Brilliant video. True that from an investment perspective Omega is terrible. But to us Plebs who can only buy on the second hand market, the drop in price is welcome. Cheers.
If Omega could follow the suit of Tudor, and make divers (and possibly other popular types) below 40mm, that would make lot more sense.
I always think of Longines being Swatch's Tudor equivalent. I'm sure we're going to see some more vintage inspired sizing from them this year.
@@DarrenBates Longines is nowhere near the design flair of Tudor. Most of their output looks tacky and cheap and believe me I’m very sad about it
You sound delusional. Tudor is overrated and a poor man’s Rolex 😂😂😂
Try actually diving with a sub 40mm watch and see how that works out for you.
@@garyboyle695 You mean like James Bond in the pre sequence of Goldfinger. He seemed to live to tell the tale sporting a 38MM 6538
Hi TGV!
If I could only own one luxury watch it would still be an Omega Aqua Terra! I would buy it on a bracelet but would wear it on the Omega rubber or a nice leather strap most of the time.

Too many limited editions, too many carbon copies of Rolex.....yup would still buy an Ω😅
🤣🤣🤣 Great comment, thank you.

5:16 "self made entrepeneurs" dont exist. Feel free to change my mind. People may want to claim they are selfmade.
Yeah, entrepreneurs are created by society. We would all be communists otherwise, and share our stuff, like all other creatures in nature do.
OMEGA has always been the best
that guy is a patrick dempsey wannabe
Omega has been playing catch up with Rolex for the last 50 years. The crown reigns supreme.
Thank you very much for your videos. I have been collecting for more than 60 years (I am an old man), and Omega, since I began was always associated with precision and engineering ( I am one too). It is good than young people like you appreciate watches. I have survived the quartz crisis and smartwatches too. Mille grazie!!! My ancestors came from Italia too. Mille grazie, Patagonia, Argentina.
You can always trust TGV!
Love the intro. Great thoughts on positivity, respect, and manners. Bravo!
I've owned Omega and I still own two Rolex 😅I actually prefer vintage Omega designs over modern
Alpha who?
Hi TGV,
Great video as always, and I agree with a lot of what you said, but there is one thing about the MODERN Omegas that I do not like and that is the price.
