Bought mine a year ago. Bought 5k under msrp due to incentives ect. Best car I’ve ever owned. Blast to drive. Imo best first upgrade is access port. Stage 1 Cobb loaded it’s a completely different car to drive (much more tq and more fun). Buy it you won’t regret it plus they aren’t gonna be making them anymore.
Bought mine 364 days aho, and Loved every day. I kept it stock until last week where I installed an RS shiter and Ronin transmission bushing upgrade. Don't go trying to pump out srupid power, and it should run for a long time
Bought an ST2 with ST3 features besides the full leather seats..... MSRP 31,000 and bought it for 22,000 because the dealer was just happy to finally sell it, where I live nobody approcats hot hatches
I was surprised that you did not mention an intercooler upgrade. That would be my first upgrade due to the heating issues that exist when you push the power a lot such as on a track run. I like the big cpe intercooler.
Same with me, not as blind but quite a bit but i looked into it and happy with it. I want to have cosmetic upgrades first aside from the tires and also of course asses what the previous owner did put because there is a blow off valve and cobb air intake and carbon fiber looking at least pipe for it and i did the oil and sparks when i bought it
“You could literally put your living together on the road out here.” Haha dude, your commentary is awesome! Super informative vids. Newly subscribed and loving it:)
My exhaust upgrade was my favorite. I have the AWE touring non-resonated one and it sounds really good it crackles and burbles all the time, it has no drone, and you can actually hear the turbo at times as well. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking at exhausts.
Gjeebs Glad to see you’re still doing mods on the ST, just picked mine up about two months ago couldn’t be happier! Was wondering I saw another video where some guy added Apple CarPlay to his 2017 mustang by changing out a USB port found in the glove box. Can this be done with the ST? He purchased a USB from Ford for about $50, it would be an awesome video👊
I just picked up my 2013 ST a week ago and youre the first person I seen about upgrades. Very glad I found you and im in the process of putting all the parts on it.
Gjeebs you’ve been running the stock intercooler this entire time with the pro cal? I’d love to see your temps before and after? What set up are you going with intercooler and pipes?
I agree on the motor mount. I have the CPE Stage 2 (which is what I believe what you're referencing) on my RS and it was a fantastic upgrade in terms of acceleration and crisper shifts. Also prevents the engine from banging against the firewall which was a pretty frightening sound. Also the Mountune quick shift, solid shifter bushings, and steeda clutch spring have all significantly improved the driving experience.
Cory Falcone Definitely agree with the clutch spring, but can't justify the entire clutch perch for more than 4x the price. Took me less than 5 minutes to switch out the spring and it makes daily driving the car so much more enjoyable. Such an easy upgrade 20 bucks is a no-brainer!
Cletus Zimmerman I had a little bit of extra NVH, but my tuner bumped idle up by 100 RPM and it improved significantly. After 10K miles I don't even really notice it anymore.
Will be buying an ST soon, and I have basically watched this video like 10 times over just gaining every detail from it, cannot wait to start the project from it being stock and turning it up a few notches. Look forward to more videos pal! Best of luck!
Just found your channel a few weeks ago but man is it nice being able to watch someone with actual intelligence talking about our beloved Focus ST's. One of the few people i could watch for 15 minutes and not get bored listening to. Keep up the great work boss!
Repping the 412! I'm from Butler and just got an all blacked out 2016 ST. Loving your videos man, very detailed, informative, researched and professional!
Nice list. But I would have done FMIC first. Personally my ride has the Depo 3.5 FMIC, Boomba Adjustable BPV(with 2 of 3 screws removed), Mountune RMM, AEM Dry Filter, and a Cobb AP3 with Stratified Flash tunes for 93, 91 and a 15psi Eco. 2016 ST2.
Hey man, nice work I’ve watched a couple videos so far. I like your advice in general and your skepticism. There’s some things you describe that I understand that have better engineering terms for them but you do a nice layman’s description that works well. Planning to do my own videos when I really break open my focus this summer!
I've got a stage 3 ST with Stratified tune (highly recommend). Finally about 2 months ago it was time to get rid of the eagle F1, I would loose traction in 1,2, and even 3rd when the tires were "cold" (I live in florid so anything under 70 is considered cold) Got the new Michelin PS4 which are simply incredible! Now I don't loose traction. Simple as that. Also road noise is reduced!
Will IV it can be done sir. Just buy a part a pay period and set aside $50-100 a check not only will you start stacking for your build. You’ll start saving money and knocking out other bills. You can do it sir.
Great suggestions if you bought this car and have a low budget for upgrades. Me personally, I have gotten rid of those heavy stock wheels and all seasons in favor of wider and super sticky eagle f1 supercar tires, CPE fully enclosed intake and intercooler, CPE Charge pipe kit, CPE xflex stage 2 RMM, MBRP turbo back 3 inch exhaust, boomba BOV, boomba short throw trans adapter plate, Cobb short throw shifter, and Cobb accessport v3 tuner.
Why in the hell would you put Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires on a Focus ST? Those tires are absolute garbage until you warm them up properly and are hockey pucks at anything below 50 degrees. They came on my 2010 Shelby GT500 and they were straight up trash. Those tires barely lasted the 22K miles I had put on the car by the time I got rid of it. If you are tracking the car and have the opportunity to warm them up properly, then ignore my comment. But for daily driving those tires are just crap. Sorry.
Leave your AC on it won’t cause any vibration and it will not need service if you don’t use it you will lose it . I got the Magna Flow exhaust very very happy recommend! A very nice power gain !
- Clear Bra - Yes. If you can afford it, do it no matter where you live. I did front bumper, entire hood, mirror caps and A-pillars and I'm really glad I did. This is my second ST, the first one was chipped and beat to hell after a couple of years not having it, the new one still looks awesome and I'm glad I spent the money - Rear Motor mount - yes, definitely. Improves launch traction and wet traction a LOT, and makes everything about the car feel more solid. 2015 and newer models have a much better factory rear MM, but the aftermarket ones are still better. I would avoid aftermarket upper motor mounts unless your car is for track use. it increases vibration by a factor of 10, it's really abusive. - air filters, intakes etcs... BS. Don't waste your money unless you just want purple or neon green shit under your hood for some reason - exhaust - marginally worth it unless you just want a different sound - sound composer delete - this "feature" annoyed the living hell out of me. it was the first thing I modified, and it's a cheap and easy fix - tires - yes, sort of. The F1's are a fine summer street tire, but get a second set of wheels and mount some Blizzak or Ice-X's on them for winter use if you live in the north. - Brake pads - I despise dust. If you do too, swap them out immediately. I used Power Stop Z23's front and rear and they are great street pads, MUCH lower dust, and zero noise. And they are a fraction of the cost of high end stuff that is not needed unless you track you car. - Tunes - proceed with caution. Tuning your car can and will come with consequences, and some can be catastrophic. Even the Ford branded tune has been a cause of denied warranty claims. Beware. Unless you have the money to suffer the consequences, don't jerk around with tunes. If it's a daily driver, stay away from them completely. - Shifter bushings - DO IT... get the solid aftermarket ones for both the transmission end of the cables AND the solid uness for inside the console where the shifter frame is mounted. you will LOVE it - Hood struts - DO IT. They are cheap and easy, and damn, it's nice not dealing with that stupid hood prop rod being in my way constantly (I rec. RedLine) Mind you, I don't race my car. I daily drive it on the street and don't get into stop-light shenanigans (well not very often anyway). I want comfort and a solid feel just for the personal satisfaction, I'm not chasing horsepower or lap times. I'm, the type who would want a faced gearset just because I like how it feels, not because it'll make my ET's lower and more reliable. I like an unmodified look and for things to be very subtle, I don't want the ricer label. I want a highly reliable car that makes me smile when I demand that of it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Normally I'd say fuck intakes but on this one that intake tube is jacked well okay so I have an escape 2.0 all-wheel drive which is basically the same car as y'all's except all-wheel drive and y'all have like a different tune I believe but anyways that intake tube is so jacked on this car that is one where I'm going to get a cold air intake for a new intake piping as my next mod first thing I did was catch can that's first thing I do on any car even if it's not a performance car so I kind of agree with you but on this one I think it might be worth it for an intake. also in regards to the guy the cap on the end of the cone needs to be there so you're not sucking in hot engine bay air so that it only uses the air from the snorkels that go to the front of the grill so you get fresh cool air
I agree with you TOTALLY - I bought this car for my son and I only want to buy him the Ford Motorsport add on's (Mountune is included in that as the dealer sells and installs the parts). We got the extended warranty and want to keep that valid. We learned that the Ford Motorsport parts are excellent and very affordable. Great video - enjoy your ride.
I love the stock Pirelli p-zero A/S! But I live in an area with a lot of rain more than harsh winters and summers so it works great for me. They are the best tire I’ve ever used in the rain.
I use the stock mounts, cut out the stock rubber out of the mount. Then take a hockey puck a shape it to the side of the whole you want but a little bit bigger, press the puck in, then drill the hole for the bolt and press a long washer through the center. I’ve done this in a ton of cars and it doesn’t have body vibration. Never had one fail either. FYI for a cheap engine roll fix.
I'm surprised an intercooler isn't listed. That's one of the first mods suggested to me on the Reddit forums. Anyways I haven't posted yet on your videos but I think you're doing a phenomenal job here. Some people babble forever and some are too much too the point. I think you have a great mix of info, personality, advice and humor that makes me glad I subscribed. I just wish you were in San Antonio haha. 93 gas here....
I have a 2014 Feista ST with 55,000+ miles and I’m on my 4th set of tires. I’m just put a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on it, there the best tires I’ve ever had, quiet, smooth, no freeway tracking in the grooves, and super sticky, highly recommend them.
Cant wait till these things are 3 or 4 grand. There's so many cool cars in the last 5 or 10 years that the future will be awesome for people buying toys and project cars. Focus ST or Fiesta ST are on my list and maybe an RS depending how depreciation and long term reliability go on them.
I got a RS air box from a Ford dealer on ebay for $72 , awesome upgrade. I also have 25mm wheel spacers all the way round, they make the car look great. I have a 3" Roush exauhst, it is very loud and droans bad at certain RPM. I recomend the Turbosmart duel port BOV, it sounds like a straight BOV but circulates back to the intake also and its adjustable. I love the FSWERKS shift plate, 3 positions and easiest install because the screws go in from the top not the bottom like the other shift plates.
Not a mod, but you should change your factory aerial to a more stubby one, I changed mine to one half the length and fits straight into your factory aerial base
Great video. I think 1 & 2 need to be flipped. If you have a 2013/14 ST then you know what AWEFUL is! The stock motor mount is literally a jelly donut. The engine slaps violently against the frame of the car. It took me 5 minutes of driving the damn thing to notice this! WTF FORD! How did you get this so wrong??? Did you not DRIVE these cars before selling them? If you simply swap in the Ford Electric Focus Motor Mount then you’re problem will be solved. No need to spend big 💰 on all these fancy mounts when the ugly (you can’t see it people) MM from Ford works great. Not one slap in 70K miles of redlining gear banging bliss. And the shifts are crisp. And there is NO car shake at idle. None. Do it now. Mine cost $50 bucks new!
D'Angelo Fernando; Hello D’ Angelo. I do not have a link to the electric Ford Focus lower/bottom motor mount but all you have to do is go to the dealership and tell them what you want. I believe their are three motor mounts total but the lower one is the only one you need to change. The mount once again is about $50.00 and should be readily available from any Ford service Dept. You can do this job w/o a lift but use ramps and block the rear wheels. Safety 1st! The job should take about an hour and you will notice a huge improvement immediately! No more 2.0 banging against the frame of the car. Also it seems like the shifts are crisper as well because the engine is no longer swimming in the engine bay. I still have NO IDEA how Ford missed this. It’s a mistake that they rectified in 2015 on up Focus ST’s.
Jair Palomar me and some buds knocked it out in about two hours only took so long because i was scared at first of lifting my baby to high:( but once we got good jack positions everything went super smooth and quick! i went with the Cobb Rear motor mount little pricey but don’t regret it at all!
First two upgrades i did right after buying a used st was the radium baffle plate and pcv catch can. Upping performance is a waste if you let your valves get gunked up due to oil vapor buildup.
Excellent review! Had my ST for a year and about 30,000 miles. First mod I would do is LSD. Coming from a Mazdaspeed3 which had one that worked well, and that's what I miss the most. That and the exhaust sound.
The Qusife ATB differential is worth the money; it really controls torque steer and helps put the power down very effectively. It helps a lot in snow, too! I got the Ford rear motor mount; it comes standard on late ‘14 models and newer and is the one that comes on the RS; and it’s cheaper than the ones from Mountune, Cobb, etc; but not as ‘purdy. I have the MP-275 package plus the Mountune cat-back exhaust which gives me about 263 wheel horse power. The stock clutch seems to handle it well and the extra punch makes passing and merging easy. But I do a fair amount of long distance driving in it and I miss being able to use regular gas. Sometimes premium isn’t available and that can be a problem with the ST’s small gas tank. I bought Ford’s M-5200-U lowering springs; about 0.5” drop from stock and 20% stiffer. You notice the difference. It’s flatter in turns but your wife will comment on the ride! I put on Powerstop M-23 front brakes; drilled and slotted with their carbon-fiber/ceramic pads. The big brake kits were just too high for me and these look and operate very well. I wasn’t sure about them when I bought them but I have been very pleased. They are more than adequate for street use; single cylinder but they will trip the anti-lock system in an instant. I have standard ST pads and rotors on the back. I bought the Ford front brake cooling air diverters from Steeda last week and need to install them, and I definitely want to get an upgraded recirculation valve for the turbo. It never ends...!
Great video. Just to throw this out there..intercooler intercooler intercooler!!!! Thats where you get your power. No it doesnt add power, but lets you use the power you have. The stock intercooler will cause you to lose 16hp and 40 ft pnds of torque when it heat soaks after 2 good pulls. My charge temps on a 65 degree day will hit in the 130 to 145 degree range with a 3rd to 4th gear pull. With my depo racing cooler on a 65 degree day will hit 67 to 71 degrees. Before spending 800.00 on a cat back exhaust id suggest the intercooler if power is your goal. Keep up the good work!
Bobby4v what about a performace radiator from Mishimoto? i hear from a friend who has a 13' ST1 that he did thay before getting an aftermarket Intercooler. By the way, im interested in getting a 18' ST2 myself. I was just wondering if that would be a way to go before getting an aftermarket intercooler.
Tune, coilovers, wheels spacers 20mm front 25 mm rear, front lip spoiler, electric rear motor mount, short shift arm from breedt, solid aluminum bushings to replace rubbers in shift linkage, adjustable rear control/camber arms, adjustable sway bar links, intake and filter, and resonator delete. Also Lumen X yellow fog light covers. 2014 PERFORMANCE BLUE FOCUS ON 3RD ENGINE WITH 72K MILES ON BODY.also sound symposer delete plate, also turbosmart 50/50 bov 2014 LExus IS 350 2014 Focus ST 2006 R6 2004 RX330 1987 944 T (big turbo)
Couple things if I may add sir :) 1 clutch assist spring - the clutch in it, I felt, tried to kick you out of pedal travel the last little bit. This makes it completely smooth pressure no more "kick out" 2 throttle pedal spacer, moves the gas closer and more even to the brake. I personally couldn't heel toe shift until I did this. Down side it might be hard to find a comfortable place for gas pedal foot but only a minor discomfort for me there And 3 anyone looking to upgrade exhaust google custom magnaflow focus st, sounds nice and is literally 1/2 the price of a cat back HOWEVER I don't know if it meets the requirment for stage 2 tunes. Again just thought I would add these to people looking :)
I bought a SE base model and turned it to a ford performance ST, with a few RS parts such as the Turbos, I do NOT recommend putting the Ford performance tune (calibration on an SE) put the mountune tune on it, if you drive an ST the Ford performance tune is way better. Also I recommend mud flaps for dirty dusty rocky areas. And put 18 inch tires of the car, comes stock with 16 but it will hold 18’s no problem. I do recommend removing the rear seats if you don’t ever plan to use them and if so remove the anti theft blocker. Definitely first thing to do is Exhaust!!!! Then air intake! Do not pull parts and resell them, always keep them especially if they are not ford warrenty’d parts. If something breaks put the warrenty’d parts back on the car then bring it into the dealership. Do NOT do burnouts unless you have something a rear motor mount, you will have wheel hop big time and could snap your driveline or your axles. Upgrading your driveline is important if you plan to up you HP more than 100hp, the driveline is rather weak. And change the read drums (if you have an SE) to disc! Other than that, the car is great, don’t launch control in the rain, and don’t do it often, check for codes if you get any errors and clear them before you go to the dealership for anything! Drive light, Drive Fast, and Focus on both the car and the road!
Just bought a white 2017 cpo. So much fun. First thing i wannt do is catch can then wmi, mainly to be able to at least run distiled water to make sure my engine stays clean
Great vid for guys just getting into cars. Everything you said was on point!!! There's so much more you can do to make this car a badass daily that's reliable but for beginners this video was perfect!😁
I own a ‘15 ST and I haven’t installed a RMM. I’ve found that better tires have eliminated any wheel hop-which, if you drive smoothly... you shouldn’t have to worry about anyway. Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R for Autocross are a must! The factory F1s are okay, but the difference with the Bridgestones was unbelievable. As far as other mods go, I went with a Borla exhaust. I think it sounds the best-basically the Ford Performance w/o the resonator. Everyone loves it and I get tons of compliments.
Gjeebs really? Never seen an ST3 come with one stock that’s cool. My ST2 came with the normal big tall ST shifter. Was glad to get that swapped out. Also you sold me on the firestone tires and they’ve been amazing thank you for that.
Just bought an '18 in Wheeling, Wv close to Pittsburgh, Pa.. and mine came with the eagle F1 tires so I'll definitely have get new ones before next winter
Just bought my first ST! 2014 Tuxedo Black. Thank you for this video! I will be ordering some small things first. I already have mud flaps from my old 2014 Focus Titanium that I might throw on as well, but we will see.
As far as cheap exhausts go the MBRP catback has been great for me. Good amount of noise and not near as much drone as the other more expensive options
Gjeebs..installed yesterday...LOVE the Ford Performance exhaust, zero drone, just loud enough, looks great, and seemed to make the engine run smoother somehow - maybe less restrictive? Great suggestion. Next up is the mount; hate the torque steer!
That stock intercooler needs to go, especially with that Phx heat . I have the mountune intercooler still in the box never been used if anybody is interested only 450.
I was thinking of going with a down pipe, air filter, hi-po muffler and tips to keep performance costs down to what would be essential and effective. Don't want to put a full exhaust or do too much because this is meant to be a cheap car that doesn't suck, it's not a GT3 RS hahaha. Cosmetically I've ordered an upgraded (heavier) shift knob and will go for just window tint, flat black sport stripes on the black finish (understated) and an ST logo sunshade...simple.
Cobb is very focused on focus’s (no pun intended), it wouldn’t be as good as Ford performance, but there is a reason they are prevalent in the focus scene, and it’s for the cookie cutter fit and reliability
I have no problems with the brake vectoring at all, really. The car pulls close to a g on the skid pad! When I play with SI's in the twisties (stock suspension vs. stock suspension) I have no issue walking away from them. Its truly no contest. Of course we have quite a bit more power to play with but, Ford did a wonderful job tuning the suspension in these cars. I'm a big fan of Honda's too but, the ST is a confidence builder as far as the driving experience is concerned.
If you go to Ford performance website or mountuning you will see cobb products on their website and yes Ford do warranty All Cobb products and others as long as it's on Ford performance page
Really good video! Appreciated that it was very educational. You really know what you are talking about and are very respectful of other opinions. Definitely subscribing!
Went to test drive a 2018 st and it wasn't the color I wanted. It definetely has the limited slip diff. For 19k it wasn't too bad. Love the torque on these bad boys. Definetly pulls
Great video ! I have a stock 2016 ST2 with 20K miles. I've been considering upgrading and your video's help. I live in south central Wisconsin (about 20 miles west of Madison)......The back roads are just what that car is very happy on. A nice track close by Blackhawk Farms Raceway and of corse Road America. I've been thinking of doing a track day on those tracks.
Suggest the Ford Racing/Performance short throw shifter assembly along with the JBR short shifter arm set to 40%....I love this set up, would compliment the shifter bushings too.
Hopefully buying an st with st1 package for a great price in a couple days been wanting one for a few years now but never pulled the trigger finally time is right and price is right
I've had my Kona Blue 2017 ST1 since 9/12/21. It's a blast to drive. I came from an Audi A3 2.0T Quattro before that I had 3 GTIs (Mk4, Mk6, and a Mk7). The ST is basically an American GTI. It's a little more raw, a little less refined in both interior and driving dynamics compared to the GTI, but it's certainly a worthy competitor. I wanted a manual. Finding a manual GTI for a decent price is like finding a needle in a haystack. At least in my area. I don't know if my Audi had crap tires, but the ST certainly feels more planted than the A3. My A3 had the larger 19 inch wheels and the sport suspension package as well. I don't really miss much about the A3 except the back up sensors and the sound system. I'm sure you'll enjoy the ST.
1. Turbo upgrade 2. Intercooler or Water-Methanol Injection 3. Downpipe 4. Tune 5. Lighter wheels 6. RockFord-Fosgate DSR-1 and your choice of 5-6 channel amp 7. Bilstein coilovers 8.* I agree about the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires, nothing out there beats them for the price.
I already stated this, the Accessport that you don't recommend then turn around to recommend mountunes tune is on an Accessport. It's just restamped as mountune, same program and all just written by someone at mountune ON a Cobb accessport.
It's all more or less the same. Most of Europe uses only RON to factor for octane. The US uses the average of RON and MON and since MON is lower it drives our average down.
You don’t “need” any of these, especially an exhaust. My top 7. 1. Performance Filter 2. COBB AP3 3. FMIC 4. Tied - NGK’s step colder or Rear roll restrictor or (RMM) 5. Better Tires (F1’s are terrible) 6. Better brake pads 7. Rear Sway Bar Also, I love the Indy 500’s great tire recommendation. Mountune uses COBB AP3 LMAO!
im whippin a ST myself. intercooler and downpipe help alot on this car. i had mine tuned with the stage 3 tune by cobb, the updated one. version 5.7 or something like that, ive made 326hp to the flywheel and 377 TQ on the stock turbo. im using Michelin pilot sport 4's Stage 2 cpe RMM . and a massive intercooler. it came from a mustang turbo kid for the 5.0 i had to make my own brackets for it, but its 2 inches bigger in every dimension than the mounttune except for the thickness. its only a quarter inch thicker. just clearing the radiator. but being we have a twin scroll turbo there is no lag issues. and boost temps stay ambient untill around 100MPH then it climbs. the stock intercooler was heat soaking on a hard pull by 4th gear. 80 degree day and the intercooler was 160-170 degrees. you can view all the temps with the accesses port by cobb. with the new cooler im lucky if it goes above 100 degrees. you gotta roll it out to 100-115 mph for that. ide highly recommend the accsessport to any ST owner and an intercooler. that accsessport can show you how much fuel cylinder 4 is getting. or your air fuel ratio on the fly. your engine Torque ECT... about 100 things to monitor. and it can save dyno tunes. and switch to eco tunes on the fly. im making 22PSI ish of boost on my race tune, but i can set it in eco mode and get 6.77 PSi and 38 MPG highway with the cruise control buttons while driving. or get 11 MPG in the race tune lol.
power to the wheels so far at deadhook motorsports when they tested it, was 297WHP and 355TQ if im remembering correctly the torque is what im forgetting
"I live in Phoenix and drive with the windows down an no A/C b/c the throttle response is better and no NVH". Hey, it's gonna be 100 degrees for next 4 months, cannot WAIT to get in my car and roll down the windows! WTF?
Ford performance uses borla as their supplier. It may say Ford performance on the exhaust but it is exactly the same muffler pipes and tips that comes in the borla kit.
Yes they do but it’s not exactly the same. The borla one sounds a little more aggressive and the tips are slightly different. I also thing the resonator is more restrictive in the ford version
@@Gjeebs there is no resonator in the borla touring exhaust just the muffler at the rear borla is also a completely stainless unit as well. I have not heard any difference in sound between the two. I also did a muffler delete on my borla kit I wanted more noise. The catalyst delete changes the note much more than anything.
I just tinted my windows 32% on front 20% on the back i put a ford racing short throw shifter on it the cobb rear motor mount flowmaster American thunder cat back exhaust the 1552 cup spoilers and put Bravuris 225/40-18 all season tires and my ST badges on my 2013ST so far
I've been waiting for the Ford calibration for my 2018, but I'm getting alil tired of waiting, here in July it's alil long in the tooth. And what you said about Cobb being made for several different car manufacturers doesn't have any basis because it's not about the Cobb accessport itself it's the tuner who is tuning the Accessport for the Ford. Which there are protuners that have been tuning the focuses as long as theyve been available. And I believe mountunes mp275 tune is on an Accessport just relabeled as a mountune tuner, but it is from Cobb with the tune file written by mountune possibly by Randy if he was there then. But there are quite a few very reputable protuners, and I think if you look into the statistics of engine failures after tuning, you'll find that there are just as many if not more ford calibration failures as there are accessport related tune failures, it's all about how safe they keep the parameters of the tune and what factory strategies they keep in place to monitor certain PIDs.
About to buy an ST. Let's go!
DONT DO IT......... lol unless you get a bad ass deal on it.
@@NoahConner how'd you talk them down to that kind of deal? That's insane!
I was surprised that you did not mention an intercooler upgrade. That would be my first upgrade due to the heating issues that exist when you push the power a lot such as on a track run. I like the big cpe intercooler.
Intercooler should be the 1st upgrade
I bought my car blind. 2016 st. I just needed a car. Never realized what I had till I stumbled on these videos. Love this car. Thanks so much.
Just bought a 2016 ST3 also. It has all the bolt-on mods and a tune. Smiles for miles. 😁
I just bought a 2013 and couldn’t be happier the wheel hop is probably my biggest issue thanks for the suggestions really helpful
You got it! I would check out my video on the rear motor mount. That will help
My exhaust upgrade was my favorite. I have the AWE touring non-resonated one and it sounds really good it crackles and burbles all the time, it has no drone, and you can actually hear the turbo at times as well. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking at exhausts.
Thermal R&D is the best one overall for sound, OEM+ look
I just ordered an intercooler and charge pipes so make sure you are subscribed for the install and long term review!
Would you recommend the Ford performance tune even if I don’t have warranty?
Gjeebs you’ve been running the stock intercooler this entire time with the pro cal? I’d love to see your temps before and after? What set up are you going with intercooler and pipes?
@@gofast8144 Mountune intercooler and silicon pipes
I agree on the motor mount. I have the CPE Stage 2 (which is what I believe what you're referencing) on my RS and it was a fantastic upgrade in terms of acceleration and crisper shifts. Also prevents the engine from banging against the firewall which was a pretty frightening sound. Also the Mountune quick shift, solid shifter bushings, and steeda clutch spring have all significantly improved the driving experience.
Yes that is the mount I was referring to. Thank you! I just partnered with a company that makes bushings and will be doing a video on those soon.
The best engine mounts in the business along with exhausts and turbo kits. (IMO)
cp-e.com/shop/product/ford-focus-st-xflex-rear-motor-mount-stage2/
i went cheap and purchased the torque solutions rmm, hopefully it is a quality piece
Eric Fling stratified is slow my brother
Compared too?
just brought home a 2018 ST in white! awesome car! LSD!
Dude... I might drive home with exactly that tomorrow
I got a 2018 as well but in black
‘18 as well here - mag grey. I wish I could afford to drop an LSD in it!
Hell yeah, LSD!
How much total u dropped bro im doing research for my st i just got, a 2018. I just wanna get the upgrades that fit my driving style
Watching your videos made up my mind about getting a ST. About to do my first upgrades starting with Air Filter and Rear Motor Mount can't wait...
Spotting that ding from someone's door mid sentence was priceless. I do that every time I got over my car even if it's an old one 😂
- Clear Bra - Yes. If you can afford it, do it no matter where you live. I did front bumper, entire hood, mirror caps and A-pillars and I'm really glad I did. This is my second ST, the first one was chipped and beat to hell after a couple of years not having it, the new one still looks awesome and I'm glad I spent the money
- Rear Motor mount - yes, definitely.
BS. Don't waste your money unless you just want purple or neon green shit under your hood for some reason
- exhaust - marginally worth it unless you just want a different sound
- sound composer delete - this "feature" annoyed the living hell out of me. it was the first thing I modified, and it's a cheap and easy fix
- tires - yes, sort of.
- Shifter bushings - DO IT... get the solid aftermarket ones for both the transmission end of the cables AND the solid uness for inside the console where the shifter frame is mounted. you will LOVE it
- Hood struts - DO IT. They are cheap and easy, and damn, it's nice not dealing with that stupid hood prop rod being in my way constantly (I rec. RedLine)
Mind you, I don't race my car.
Most Ford motorsports products are made by big name manufacturers. Like my Focus exhaust years ago was actually a Borla.
I love the stock Pirelli p-zero A/S! But I live in an area with a lot of rain more than harsh winters and summers so it works great for me. They are the best tire I’ve ever used in the rain.
I saw your car earlier today bro!! I just recently got a red Focus st and it’s so nice!!
Great to see a FoST channel , keep the content coming !!!! Wish I started recording my upgrades to mine, but oh well
I got a RS air box from a Ford dealer on ebay for $72 , awesome upgrade.
None. Do it now. Mine cost $50 bucks new!
do you have a link?
Philip Rosenthale sweet thanks man i might head over there today and check it out!
What exactly did you say when you bought the motor mount at the dealer I don’t wanna sound dumb when I go
Jair Palomar me and some buds knocked it out in about two hours only took so long because i was scared at first of lifting my baby to high:( but once we got good jack positions everything went super smooth and quick! i went with the Cobb Rear motor mount little pricey but don’t regret it at all!
I'd add the Ford performance short throw shifter.
got my st yesterday
Congrats!
2014 PERFORMANCE BLUE FOCUS ON 3RD ENGINE WITH 72K MILES ON BODY.also sound symposer delete plate, also turbosmart 50/50 bov
2014 LExus IS 350
2014 Focus ST
2006 R6
2004 RX330
1987 944 T (big turbo)
Couple things if I may add sir :)
1 clutch assist spring - the clutch in it, I felt, tried to kick you out of pedal travel the last little bit. This makes it completely smooth pressure no more "kick out"
2 throttle pedal spacer, moves the gas closer and more even to the brake. I personally couldn't heel toe shift until I did this. Down side it might be hard to find a comfortable place for gas pedal foot but only a minor discomfort for me there
And 3 anyone looking to upgrade exhaust google custom magnaflow focus st, sounds nice and is literally 1/2 the price of a cat back HOWEVER I don't know if it meets the requirment for stage 2 tunes.
Again just thought I would add these to people looking :)
I've heard really good things about the stratified tune w the cobb access port
Arizona is the perfect place for cars! Perfect weather all year long.
It is awesome plus dry heat is the best for preserving cars. My only issue is I don’t have a garage so my car gets dirty very quickly
remap, exhaust and air filter
Steeds clutch spring, oil catch can, braided steel brake lines, and intercooler!
10:34 something suddenly appears flying by the left side of the lamppost then suddenly disappears again.
Looking at a red fully modded 2014 st with 98000 miles. Sounds amazing
Focus RS shifter! It’s a huge feel and driving comfort upgrade for not much money.
My ST3 came with that stock
Gjeebs really? Never seen an ST3 come with one stock that’s cool. My ST2 came with the normal big tall ST shifter. Was glad to get that swapped out.
Also you sold me on the firestone tires and they’ve been amazing thank you for that.
Just bought an '18 in Wheeling, Wv close to Pittsburgh, Pa.. and mine came with the eagle F1 tires so I'll definitely have get new ones before next winter
Nice! I am from western PA
Just bought my first ST! 2014 Tuxedo Black. Thank you for this video! I will be ordering some small things first. I already have mud flaps from my old 2014 Focus Titanium that I might throw on as well, but we will see.
not worth it just remove from tatinium and put it In st😄
I just purchased a 2016 ST black on black and im in love!!!!!!
Congrats
In tbe next week im grabbing my st1, so hyped. Any recommendations for videos or links for performance/etc
excellent tire choice. I am wearing the Indy 500s on both my Twin Turbo Stealth and my 5.0 Coyote Mustang. Great tire.
Buying a Ford Focus ST soon and this will help me so much thank you! Def subbed and liked
Also short throw shifters are the best mod imo for any manual transmission
Getting mine today, can't wait to draw out the potential of the ST hehe
Congrats you’re going to love it!
As far as cheap exhausts go the MBRP catback has been great for me. Good amount of noise and not near as much drone as the other more expensive options
Driver mod! Even just an autocross event will make you love this car so much more.
So true. I did my first autox 2 weeks ago and its incredible what seat time will do to your confidence in your car and in your own skillset.
The sticker @ 12:45 is dope AF
RGBGFIVE how much hp does it add?
I don't have it calculated into the tune so nothing right now...I will let you now once I dyno ;)
RGBGFIVE ok thanks
Thee best exhaust system I believe for this car above all else, through all research I've done, the Thermal Research and Development.
Gjeebs..installed yesterday...LOVE the Ford Performance exhaust, zero drone, just loud enough, looks great, and seemed to make the engine run smoother somehow - maybe less restrictive? Great suggestion. Next up is the mount; hate the torque steer!
Great to hear! Glad you like it
That stock intercooler needs to go, especially with that Phx heat . I have the mountune intercooler still in the box never been used if anybody is interested only 450.
1gsrtom interested
WaldoIsLegit ok hit me on my email gsrtom00@gmail
Still available?
germjp germjp yeah just email me if ur interested
1gsrtom So you notice horsepower loss when its very hot outside?
I was thinking of going with a down pipe, air filter, hi-po muffler and tips to keep performance costs down to what would be essential and effective. Don't want to put a full exhaust or do too much because this is meant to be a cheap car that doesn't suck, it's not a GT3 RS hahaha.
Cosmetically I've ordered an upgraded (heavier) shift knob and will go for just window tint, flat black sport stripes on the black finish (understated) and an ST logo sunshade...simple.
Very informative. Good video man.
Consider using a tripod. Walking around while recording is dizzying.
Otherwise great video.
I live in the mid east coast an I just put on 235/40/18 Toyo extreme love them feels so smooth at same time better then the continental it came with
Steeda Clutch assist spring would be 1 in my book. Easy to install, Cheap, Night and Day difference in shifting.
Great video man! I have a full stock Focus ST and your video gave me an idea of where to start
Glad it helped! Should be releasing more videos this week
I would love to get that exhaust. Sounds pretty good and not annoyingly loud.
So excited to get a ford st :) looking for a 100k mileage in the 11-15k price area
Did you get it?
If you go to Ford performance website or mountuning you will see cobb products on their website and yes Ford do warranty All Cobb products and others as long as it's on Ford performance page
thx for the info!
Really good video! Appreciated that it was very educational. You really know what you are talking about and are very respectful of other opinions. Definitely subscribing!
Thank you!
Went to test drive a 2018 st and it wasn't the color I wanted. It definetely has the limited slip diff. For 19k it wasn't too bad. Love the torque on these bad boys. Definetly pulls
Is it new or used?
It was new 9 miles on the odometer
It was the lowest of features though. No navigation or ricaro seats. Just barebones stock
Gotcha. They don’t come stock with LSD but that’s good it felt like it haha
add an oil catch can is one of the mods I’ve read on that everyone seems to suggest
I ran the firehawk Indy500 through the winter and they are pretty good in the snow.
Haha that’s funny and good to know
I just thought itd be good feedback on those tires. I like them a lot.
Stress clutch spring is a must!
picking up a 2015 st on monday. cant wait!
If you like to pop the hood, get some hood struts. I got the Steeda ones. They look OEM and are simple to install.
Yes I agree I need to get those!
Hood Struts as well! No more lanky prop up strut.
Dat alot of money
You need an upgraded intercooler if you're going big turbo
I already stated this, the Accessport that you don't recommend then turn around to recommend mountunes tune is on an Accessport. It's just restamped as mountune, same program and all just written by someone at mountune ON a Cobb accessport.
I really dig the channel bro! I have a Mazda right now but looking into getting an ST in the near future!
Glad you like it!
Here I am in the UK, filling up my ST3 with 99 octane😌 The minimum we have here is 95!
It's all more or less the same. Most of Europe uses only RON to factor for octane.
The US uses the average of RON and MON and since MON is lower it drives our average down.
Ok, Gjeebs..this finally motivated me to order an exhaust: took your advice on the Ford Performance Exhaust...for my 16 ST. Just ordered today.
Awesome! You’re going to love it
You don’t “need” any of these, especially an exhaust. My top 7.
1. Performance Filter
2. COBB AP3
3. FMIC
4. Tied - NGK’s step colder or Rear roll restrictor or (RMM)
5. Better Tires (F1’s are terrible)
6. Better brake pads
7. Rear Sway Bar
Also, I love the Indy 500’s great tire recommendation.
Mountune uses COBB AP3 LMAO!
Facts, u always gotta get Cobb💪
Phoenix Arizona here !!! Great video !!!
im whippin a ST myself. intercooler and downpipe help alot on this car. i had mine tuned with the stage 3 tune by cobb, the updated one. version 5.7 or something like that, ive made 326hp to the flywheel and 377 TQ on the stock turbo. im using Michelin pilot sport 4's Stage 2 cpe RMM . and a massive intercooler. it came from a mustang turbo kid for the 5.0 i had to make my own brackets for it, but its 2 inches bigger in every dimension than the mounttune except for the thickness. its only a quarter inch thicker. just clearing the radiator. but being we have a twin scroll turbo there is no lag issues. and boost temps stay ambient untill around 100MPH then it climbs. the stock intercooler was heat soaking on a hard pull by 4th gear.
WTF?
Hey I’m in az too!
just bought a ST thanks for your help 🤓
Awesome to hear man. Hope you love it!
I would add a catch can to the list, to protect the engine from carbon fouling.
The tires are an option, you can ask for either the summer or the pirelli all season
Im surprised you didnt mention a FMIC, pretty popular upgrade. stock is notorious for getting heat soak
Agree I should have added it
@@Gjeebs why did you go ev
