    This was an excellent interview. Farage not interrupting is excellent and Portillo is head and shoulders above anyone currently in politics on any side

      Yep, I attended his 'one Man show' and book signing tour, last November. He signed my book and I put a couple of questions to him. A very approachable and entertaining person. I asked him if he would ever go back into politics, and he firmly said -NO, Never .

    When he was paired with Diane Abbot on the Andrew Neil show he often
    had a wry smile on his face while she jabbered on. An honest man.

      Not really he said on Neil's TV show they was good mates and class mates doing Shakespeare in university together lol . I think he be the one of the few that read give would tribute her publically at her funeral for etc lol

      @@timhuggins1993 That may be so but he sets an old fashioned example of how somebody can be civil and courteous even to those with opposing views. Though he never surrenders his principles he is a tolerant and fair man, and exceptionally sharp.

    Portillo is an endlessly interesting, thoughtful, insightful and classy man. The comparison between him and today’s politicians is truly depressing.

    My father worked under him when he was defence secretary. He said he was the best one of all the ones he worked under, every time he spoke to someone he gave them his full attention he said and listened to every word he would say. He said he was a very good boss.

    Michael Portillo.. Brilliant politician and a TRUE Conservative. The man who should have been Tory leader, but was considered too far to the Right of the party by some people! Great to see and hear him.... and to know he's still around!!!

    I used to be a TV documentary sound recordist for most of my life before retiring. As with many comments on here, I disliked Mr. Portillo when he was a member of Thatcher's cabinet. In the mid to late 1990's we, as a film crew, were sent to Scotland for a week to make a pilot documentary with Michael Portillo. I was staggered to find what a thoroughly nice guy he is.We had some interesting discussions over that week about his time in politics. I have the utmost respect for him. He's a very knowledgable and decent guy. He would have made a great PM.

He never had any loyalty to anyone in the Tory hierarchy, which he came to after his youth in The Labour Party, he just went to ride the most likely horse to win. If he was reborn halfway through his life, then he was a confirmed bastard both times.

    I once saw Michael Portillo travelling on a busy train in rush-hour London . I watched closely as he became the the object of much attention, not all of it particularly positive.
    I was taken by his grace and honest charm.
    He gave everyone his fullest attention and listened closely. I could see people being clearly pleased that they were being listened to, and responded to with respect. I wonder what politician today would have the same consideration of others.... ? I was impressed.

    I was on a small boat trip around the Farne islands. One of the chap's who worked the boat told us he met Michael Portillo who was making a TV program. Said he was a Gentleman.

    Isn’t GB News gaining loads of traction at the moment! Many I’ve met are now tuning in snd finding it the channel we’ve needed for so long. It’s no surprise that Nigel has such high ratings as he simply asks the questions we would.
    I often find his railway journey episodes as a fantastic and relaxing way to spend a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Such a nice, honest and respectful man.

    I love these talking pints shows.
    Nigel has such varied eclectic guests from all sides of politics. Michael Portillo here was excellent, and unlike on the BBC, Farage, didnt keep interrupting him. Instead he added to the enjoyment, and didnt just talk for the sake of it.
    Very enjoyable, I wonder who is next ?

    I am impressed how Portillo attributes his success to " luck". I disagree. His voice projects so much confidence, his railway presentation is sublime. He engages with other passengers with ease.

    I never liked Portillo when he was a politician but I've warmed to him over the years. The same with Nigel Farage. Great interview. Nice to see Nigel listening and allowing Michael to talk uninterrupted.

    Bet the people who rescued johnson off the zip line when he was Mayor of London are wondering why they didn't just leave him to hang out and dry. Portillo has definitely improved with age and that speech is pertinent to what is happening right now.

    I do like Portilio. Quite often disagree with him on policy but he presents his arguments well and I always could understand his point of view even if I disagreed with it.
    Hearing him talk about politics makes me feel nostalgic for BBC This Week. It's a travesty that it got axed, it was the best political show on TV.

    It was absolutely a great interview. Portillo always speaks so well and with so much insight. Prime Minister material! Farage did a great interview it was relaxed and Farage didn’t interupt, he let his guest speak. It was just two people discussing politics. Very refreshing to watch.

    …a grown up conversation; how refreshing. It’s a shame that rounded individuals like Portillo with wisdom and experience are replaced by inexperienced nobody’s. This country ought to find a way of including such individuals. Farage falls into the same bracket; do I agree with everything, he says? No, but he’s right on most issues.

    Michael is a great guy, his railway journey programmes have always been essential viewing for us, not just for the trains aspect but for the fact that he shows us the best of the UK and abroad. Hope he does some more as they're so interesting. Great interview Nigel with a very interesting and knowledgeable man.
