We had a friendly a couple of weeks back with Rangers here in Blackpool. Rangers fans and Blackpool fans were all drinking together and having banter. No trouble at all.
As for the drugs and raves Carlton is telling the truth. I've been to many raves/clubs where everyone were 'off their nuts' (me included) and there were hardly ever any incidents people loved and respected each other. I've seen far more violent incidents at other venues where people were just drinking.

This went on at Wigan casino in the early 1970's - THE Northern Soul music scene at that time that came to national attention for the music and the huge numbers attending. There was never any trouble at Northern Soul events. However, I in no way support the drug scene at all. In the time since then, so many many are now dead who took drugs. THAT is the real result of drug use.

Working class background so fighting was a currency of life is an insulting misnomer. My background is working class, I was a latchkey kid but, like most of my contemporaries, felt no inclination towards a life of violence. There were occasional flare ups/fights but never as a pass time or hobby. At no time did I find violence obligatory.

I actually used to argue with the football hooligans I knew, asking them why they were fighting similar guys to them in exactly the same boat? It was insanity to me. Not because I was scared of a rumble but because it was ridiculously futile.
