I work as an educator at a Zoo with a Turkey Vulture. One of her wings was broken and never healed properly, so she's a little clumsy when it comes to getting around. She's my favorite bird to work with, but definitely the most unpredictable and dangerous. I've had to fend her off on more than one occasion and she has bitten other keepers. She's still my favorite to work with, though. 🥰 Her interactions with enrichment are always great, and she seems to enjoy being chatted to while I clean. They're such intelligent birds.
Wow, what a cool occupation! Aw man I'm sorry to hear her wing broke... I'm glad she's able to survive at the zoo and able to have you as a friend. I bet she is, she probably went through some trauma with her injury. I hope she ends up becoming more friendly towards the other keepers. Thanks for telling me your story :)
It because it understands what you are saying she not a bird she a transcross of the ethics of transhumanism symbolically she will make deals and agreements when it comes to her food you bring her a dead form and she will hold off doing what she does if it feel s like one side is benefiting

I saw one a few weeks ago. I was driving home from work and I remember thinking, "What's a bigass Turkey doing by the side of the road?" Which I live in a really metropolitan area so I was suprised when I saw it, but the closer I drove by it I realized it was a freaking Vulture! I'll never forget what it looks like, It was the first time I've ever seen one. What's odd to me is that it was in the city. After watching this video, I'm certain it was a Turkey Vulture.

I remember seeing black and turkey vultures flying low and even feeding together, and I used to think they were the male and female of the same species. Very interesting and beautiful birds, remind me of my childhood.
I had a Turkey vulture with a broken wing rescued from my place today. I was wondering if they mated for life. Im hoping this specimen was too young to be mated. Id feel like a cad if I arranged the kidnapping (however necessary) of a bird's mate. If it survives, the rescue folks will release it here. Thank god for Gold country wildlife rescue. fingers crossed.
J Bird, I am kind of confused on something about these red headed turkey buzzards we have here in Ohio. I live north of Dayton out in the country. Across the road from me is 200+ acres that was used to grown corn every year. A couple years ago the property was sold to a cattle rancher. Now there are cattle on the 200+ acres but lots of turkey buzzards have seemed to taken over the area once the cattle moved in. Here is what I am not understanding. One early morning I saw a raccoon digging for worms ( which Ive seen many times before) then suddenly a turkey buzzard swooped down low and grabbed the raccoon. As the turkey buzzard went flying upwards I could see the raccon swing his legs trying to get away, the buzzard dropped him, I estimate approx. 40-50 feet and the raccoon hit the ground hard. Then the buzzard came back and start eating his kill. Well, that was not the first kill I witnessed. A buzzard got a hold of a rabbit in my backyard. Same thing, grabbed the rabbit and dropped it. Now I am worried..... because I have a Yorkie dog that weighs 6 pounds. It got to the point that when my dog goes outside these turkey buzzards come from no where, circle and swoop down low toward my dog. I literally have to chase them off. I asked my veterinarian about this situatiion and I was told that turkey buzzards will in fact kill for food. I went back to the same veterinarian office and the owner had retired shortly after I asked about this. The new veterinarian told me turkey buzzards dont kill and do not eat dogs. When I tell people what I seen, they do not believe it. I always thought buzzards only eat dead animals and do not hunt and kill for food.
@@juliussanchez3249 - So you are saying that turkey buzzards do catch and kill prey. Yet some veterinarians will tell me that turkey buzzards feets are not designed to grab prey in flight. I am questioning how much knowledge veterinarians have. Then again te myth has always been that buzzards only eat dead animals

Thank you for telling me the history of pigeons. Pigeons have long been said to be a symbol of peace in my country. Therefore, Japanese people do not have a habit of eating pigeons. However, in urban areas, the number of pigeons is increasing and pigeon pollution is occurring, but it is prohibited to capture them. Pigeon pollution in urban areas is always a difficult problem. At 3:04 I clearly state what you need to know about the Turkey Vultures call. There are many videos out there where you can just listen to certain noises the turkey vulture makes, but this is something different, evident by the title and length. Beautiful presentation. I am fascinated with these awesome birds. Here in Southern NJ, we have both Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures. In the nearby borough of Wenonah, vultures congregate on such a grand scale that the borough even came up with an annual "vulture fest". BTW, Your background music and voice are wonderfully tranquilizing. Please keep the good jazz and bird videos coming.

Nice video. Nice job explaining all that information about turkey vultures. It made the information really easy to understand and process. Another cool fact about turkey vultures is that they can vomit stomach acid and food when they feel threatened.
I saw three of these dining on a roadkill possum 1 block from my house a week ago. I was driving home from work and there they stood. Huge birds! They briefly flew up when I got close but returned as soon as I passed the spot. They do resemble a Turkey somewhat, but we have wild Turkeys around as well and I instantly knew these were vultures and not Turkeys. Some people think they are ugly (because of the head) I find them majestic. Plus, they keep the area free of rotting dead animals far better than the road service around here.
I can open my arms into a wide V and a turkey vulture will come down and sail circles above me, last summer a turkey vulture sat on fence around a swimming pool, he stretched his wings and was relaxing in sun. He stayed at least 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure this is the one who will come down and circle my head. His partner is always nearby but stays higher. The white claws and beak are beautiful. He will land on power pole and look down at me spreading his wings open. I consider him a friend.

I just moved to Tennessee and they are ALL OVER my property, i was next to a park the other day and I saw a group and my wife saw a mother was eating a carcass and feeding it to their 2 babies, I wish I saw it. I have always been obsessed with vultures, they are like nature's waste management.

Do they only scavenge, or can they kill small rodents? When I capture a rat, mouse, or gopher, I try to put them where the Turkey Vultures can see them. They are always hovering over my property but never seem to find the treats...
Hm that's very interesting... personally, I've never seen that myself or never heard of that happening, but it is most likely accidents or meant as acts of aggression to keep other birds away. I tried looking it up and there seems to be no reports of this happening so it's any ones guess
I love turkey vultures we have roost about 50 yds from our house there routinely 50 or so just hanging for a majority of the day at night they go home...where ever that is..
A turkey vulture was soaring over my house, looking for something on my front yard. It was perching on the roof of my neighbor's house across the street. Next thing I know, it's flying in a circle, slowly soaring down until it landed on my front yard. I never figured out what it was looking for, though.

Nah, I just know they are there because my band teacher has seen them and I have seen some feathers they've shed on the field. I would try to find the nest, but it might be in private property, so...

We noticed the smell of an animal carcass in the woods just behind the back yard. Sure enough, just today I saw a turkey vulture swooping into the yard and perch on a dead tree. I'm guessing the carcass will be gone in a few days, whatever it is.
I Iike the look of the turkey vulture and understand they are endangered. I am looking for a property where I can build a habitat for them and take the dead animals I find on the roads to attract them and then feed then as I collect more. I was once visiting a friend who raised turkeys for market. he would often find a dead one in his barn which was taken out back to the incinerator. and as you know you don't fire it up until you've collected a few. Many times he would have to chase away the vultures so he could clean up. That's where I hatched my idea. Now all this happened 10 years ago so I've had lots of time to plan and look for the right place. I know that even when I get started it will take some time before my dream is realised. along the way I still have much to think out.
I not joking my comments are serious these turkey birds don't know but it like 🌪 have something in common with these gene crosses of a bird it like the bird teaches a tornado how to do what a tornado steering wind velocity streaming etc

This is a dumb question because I see they’re flying in the video but my cousin and I have a debate about turkey vultures. He says they can’t actually fly and climb.. yes climb trees and then glide around. I beg to differ so I guess I’ll ask here lol
Hey do you know what it means when a turkey vulture comes flying towards you face to face to fly around you multiple times and feel this invigorating wind force between you two. Then you ask god what was that and to clarify if that was god like with Francis of assissi then the vulture flew into a tree bark on the Caribbean coast I was walking along, and looked back, tilted his head back and down and lifted his left wing. I have a military project for my Garifuna village and crazy stuff happened right after that where I’m lucky to be alive and ok. After it raised its wing it flew and landed on a palm tree while keeping eye contact with me as I kept walking. What does that mean? Do you think it was a mechanical bird with my competition trying to plan a way to make me say something that sounds sick to them but totally normal in our world and culture.
But with the amount of cruelty and materialism breeded in the suspicious people of course no one will have faith and will say it’s craY to talk about god

There’s a tree here near down the street where I live. I see them every day flying in circles and breaking off on packs so this is interesting!

When it suffering before it death it adrenalin rises and makes for tastier dining for the turkey. That why they dropped the prey you witnissed

Hm that's very interesting... personally, I've never seen that myself or never heard of that happening, but it is most likely accidents or meant as acts of aggression to keep other birds away. I tried looking it up and there seems to be no reports of this happening so it's any ones guess

I love turkey vultures we have roost about 50 yds from our house there routinely 50 or so just hanging for a majority of the day at night they go home...where ever that is..
Why do I see these flying high in Maine but never have seen one even remotely terrestrially?
A turkey vulture was soaring over my house, looking for something on my front yard. It was perching on the roof of my neighbor's house across the street. Next thing I know, it's flying in a circle, slowly soaring down until it landed on my front yard. I never figured out what it was looking for, though.
Wow what a very interesting occurrence, maybe there was something small that it could smell but I honestly can't explain that. Glad you were able to see this cool bird though!

Nah, I just know they are there because my band teacher has seen them and I have seen some feathers they've shed on the field. I would try to find the nest, but it might be in private property, so...

We noticed the smell of an animal carcass in the woods just behind the back yard. Sure enough, just today I saw a turkey vulture swooping into the yard and perch on a dead tree. I'm guessing the carcass will be gone in a few days, whatever it is.

I Iike the look of the turkey vulture and understand they are endangered. I am looking for a property where I can build a habitat for them and take the dead animals I find on the roads to attract them and then feed then as I collect more. I was once visiting a friend who raised turkeys for market. he would often find a dead one in his barn which was taken out back to the incinerator. and as you know you don't fire it up until you've collected a few. Many times he would have to chase away the vultures so he could clean up. That's where I hatched my idea. Now all this happened 10 years ago so I've had lots of time to plan and look for the right place. I know that even when I get started it will take some time before my dream is realised. along the way I still have much to think out.

This is a dumb question because I see they’re flying in the video but my cousin and I have a debate about turkey vultures. He says they can’t actually fly and climb.. yes climb trees and then glide around. I beg to differ so I guess I’ll ask here lol

Hey do you know what it means when a turkey vulture comes flying towards you face to face to fly around you multiple times and feel this invigorating wind force between you two. Then you ask god what was that and to clarify if that was god like with Francis of assissi then the vulture flew into a tree bark on the Caribbean coast I was walking along, and looked back, tilted his head back and down and lifted his left wing. I have a military project for my Garifuna village and crazy stuff happened right after that where I’m lucky to be alive and ok. After it raised its wing it flew and landed on a palm tree while keeping eye contact with me as I kept walking. What does that mean? Do you think it was a mechanical bird with my competition trying to plan a way to make me say something that sounds sick to them but totally normal in our world and culture.
But with the amount of cruelty and materialism breeded in the suspicious people of course no one will have faith and will say it’s craY to talk about god
