Nice to learn more about Purple Martins - I don’t think we have them in Washington - their flight reminds me of the barn swallow and tree swallow which we do have here. I’ve seen them in the mid-west though! I learned that Native Americans hung gourds for them, and that the older birds migrate north earlier than the younger birds! Awesome info - thanks J Birds! Hope school is going well for you!
That doesn’t surprise me that native Americans hung gourds for them, as here in the south a lot of houses in rural areas have gourds with holes drilled in them set up just for that purpose.

I love these birds and their houses - thank you for introducing them to us!😊 The footage of their babies is awesome!😀🐤🐤 I really appreciate your effort to prepare this video!😊 As regards European starlings - I'm in Central Europe and 4 years ago a couple of starlings invaded a nest of tree sparrows that lived in the hole in the facade in our building. We put up an emergency birdhouse near our window and both the sparrows and the starlings completed their breeding successfully😊 But here they're both natural species and such things happen. And it's always (or almost always) human intervention that leads to disasters and to extinction of many species. Introducing European starlings into America may not have been the best idea...😕

And that is so true, thankfully we are able to help out certain species so human intervention isn't as bad, but obviously yes, we need to stop doing that

Enjoyed the video. We put up a PM house 2 years. The first year we were unsuccessful, but last year we had one couple. Our house has been up for 2 weeks ( Alabama) and we spotted a couple checking out the house yesterday. Do PM prefer to enter the house from the front or side hole? TY

here in Europe we also have the House Martin, which is very similar to this one, Wonderful birds.
