- A simple video that explains downloading and setting up your own Spigot OR CraftBukkit server for 1.20 and above. I show 1.20 in this video, but it applies to every recent version and even future ones! By the end, you will have a working multiplayer server that you and your friends can play on for free! Yes, this video uses BuildTools, but it's the only official way to get these. Jars from any other sources may work but may hide some nasty code.

I wanted to create a server for me and my friends, i had never done anything like this before, this video was very helpful. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
If anyone is having issues with this, especially the "cant access spigot.jar"- make sure youre using a disc directory (not onedrive or any other cloud storage) and try putting the ffile folder directly in your D:/users/documents folder. If that still doesnt work, try running anything you do as an administrator. Also, if your start.batch file disappears after trying to start it, you need to add whatever the error file is as an exception in your antivirus/firewall.

Me and my friend have a problem everytime we setup the server he setup the version 1.20.1 but we want 1.20... bcuz of plugins
i have many error sometimes run with specified memory then it tells me that iam using java 8 and cant make more than 1024M which is so low ammount of ram that will cause lag ITS JUST NOT WORKING

You need to right click the start command, edit it with Notepad or Notepad++, and change the line from java -Xmx2G -jar spigot-1.20.jar nogui to > java -Xmx2G -jar spigot-1.20.1.jar nogui

Do you may know what to do, if it only creates the buildtools.jar and the start.bat files in the spigot folder instead of downloading all the other necessary folder and documents?
@@severinvincent3032 it’s a problem with the start bat files, I had this issue as well and had to use a different tutorial by apex
hey bro i got issues with all my servers (like yours and feather one): not all my plugins aren't "known" (im french sry if it didnt mean something) by my spigot, and even bukkit or paper ...
A tuto for fix?
Everything was fine untill the first time i stopped the server.After that when i wanted to start it , it said "Unsupported Java detected (64.0). Only up to Java 19 is supported." and when i downloaded java 19 it didnt change anything. Can somebody help?

you just need the spigot-1.20 or spigot-1.20.x jar file
I just installed the newest version of a java runtime enviorment too and reinstated the new version to my user path and system path and its still not working
@@thescispot4780 you can just use Spigot-1.20.2 directly using a batch file,it is not nessarcy to use buildtool
@@thescispot4780 try to find the old java and uninstall it from your computer,it maybe conflit with the new one you installed
Here are some problems that I went through and how made the server.
1. When you create the folder, when you click on the path to copy, make sure it doesn't say one drive on the URL, if it does, create the folder in the hard drive then copy that URL. should be super short like D:\build.
2. If it doesn't make a spigot folder jar, and all it makes are some other folders and the buildtools jar and start bat. Rename the build tool.jar to spigot-1.20.1 .2 might work but idk didn't try. then right click and edit your start bat and copy this java -Xmx2G -jar spigot-1.20.1.jar nogui replace line two with that. then double click start.bat and it should start creating stuff and eventually it will create spigot 1.20.2.jar.
Then continue with video at 3:30. this one you can move them to your desktop if you were having problems with the onedrive path. Note, don't forget to edit the start.bat and make it 1.20.2 since now we have .2 jar.
Good luck hope it helps with some cause it was giving all this things.

i get an error which says unable to access jarfile spigot-1.20 why does this happen?
The file is called spigot-1.20.1 now. Just right click the start.bat and hit edit and change the File name int the second line into whatever the spigot jar is called for you.
It does not download Java like you said it would. Please link where to get Java manually

not sure why, but the spigot 1.20.1 jar file didnt download for me so i have to do it manually
i installed java 20 then created a new spitgot folder and restarted the process. that fixed it for me.

i had to add spigot manually but even after it says can't find spigot i checked my java version and spigot version but still doesn't work
Check what the name of the jar is if its 1.20.1.jar instead of 1.20 edit the start.bat and change it to 1.20.1.jar

Error: Unable to access jarfile spigot-1.20.jar when I run the "start" in the file, any help would be nice.
edit the start.bat file to say spigot-1.20.1.jar and run it again, should be able to find the jar file and begin the setup then.
Love the vid and the script does make life soooo much easier. @troublechute thought you should know the start.bat file looks for a spigot-1.20.jar file not the 1.20.1 easy to fix but just so you know

I found a solution
If u create a Folder on ur desktop it will likely create it trough onedrive and that will not work u will need to manually create the spigot folder somewhere else where it doesnt go trough onedrive like i just created it at my C drive games folder and it worked well

You're probably not getting the files because you don't have the right version of Java. normal install of Java is 8, and you need 17 or 20. it says in the script.

In the server options there is a config to turn the verification off, in that way people that dont own minecraft can join too

when i clicked n it downloaded the files very fast but it only downloaded a start.bat a buildtools.jar and a buildtools log nothing else
if anyone gets the error cant accsess spigot1.20.jar rename it to that exact name mine was spigot1.20.1jar so i just renamed it and it worked
