From my 12 years of experience of using multiple hosting providers for MC servers the best way is actually to self-host it on your old notebook or even SBC if you don;t require much. How to provide your server to others is a whole different ballgame.

Get a Raspberry Pi, install a Minecraft server on it and share the port so others can connect to. Works perfectly and they are always online. The newer Pis (4 or 5) can easily handle multiple Minecraft servers (I had 3 running on my Pi 4 with 8 GB memory).
I personally use feather client because you can easily create servers from the client in a few clicks and it is auto configed + it is all on your computer so it is very customizable
The best server hosting that is free is actually magmanode most people will say athnos but on magmanode you get no ads i9 cpu but don’t let it get to popular or it will shut down
The only real problem that i see is they do not have quilt support So i had to redo a modpack from scratch into fabric to be able to add it in a server

Honestly... i expect something more. This options are not good. None of them run for even a week let alone 24/7 for 1 whole month. If i wait and get Fakaheda free server for 1 month, it'll be much better and with all of stuff they have with complete support.
You won't get any good 24/7 options because from a company standpoint offering that for free isnt viable. The best you would get is probably oracle cloud free tier, but that has a large learning curve.

falixnodes isn't available in my region and a vpn doesn't fix it, scalacube just sucks bc no forge and minekeep is just magmanode but %50 less ram and stuff so yeah I think magmanode is a #1 for me

Idk why people dont just run it on their own deivce. It's really not that difficult, download a file, allow for portforwarding, and then give your IPv4 + port to some friends any enjoy.

In my country most ISP doesn't allow individuals to have a Public IP. You need to have a company and the contract puts on you some kind monetary liability and without reason. Having a Public IP is a security risk to You, your ISP and possibly all of their clients. I strongly advise against doing such thing unless you are a security expert who knows how to secure a network.

And securing your IP address isn't a huge problem unless you make your IP public. Personally, I would give out my IP to my friends, whom I want to join my server (I mentioned this in the original comment). But if you're looking to host a bigger server, then yes, I do agree with you. Probably not the greatest idea to give out your IP to everybody.

Been using aternos for 3 years now. Didn't face anything until the long queue times came. Other than the 15min queue it pretty good for 10 15 players
It really depends how you use aternos.
What's wrong with Aternos?
Too much bloatware, your server being automatically closed in less than 10 minutes, having less than 2GB of ram. It's just sad.

Good for playing with friends but unless you have a separate router to use it with it's not safe for a public server
