    The axle and axle bearings on your machine can really take a beating, especially on sport ATV's that have a lot of power and are being pushed to their limits. Replacing your axle and axle bearings is a great way to keep up on the maintenance of your machine and ensure that everything is operating smoothly to prevent more serious damage in the future. So in this video we show the proper steps to replacing the axle and axle bearings on a 1999 Honda TRX 400EX, but the steps shown here will be very similar to most sport ATV's.

    Just want to say thanks for the great video. Id like to make a recommendation to save anyone with an old machine some time and money. When you're removing the brake disc flange there's a good possibility its going to be to rusted to be tapped off the way it's showed on the video. What worked for me was sliding a large washer over the splines where the wheel hub connects to the axle, then putting a 2 inch pipe over the axle. And hitting that with a mallet. That way there's no stress on the brake, or brake hub. And doing this will also bring the axle out of the bearing carrier Which is a double win. I wish I'd known this before hand, it would have saved me from buying a 180 dollar OEM disc brake flange. Hope I helped someone

  • @redrider533
    @redrider533 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    great video but i have some issues. The components, especially the axle itself never come apart that easily. The axle is usually stuck in the carrier due to corrosion. Or the bearings are so bad that the ball bearings are gone, the inner race is stuck on the axle and the outer race stuck in the housing. What would be helpful to people not highly skilled in repair, is how to handle those situations as they are more common than not.

    In this video you say to tighten the axle inner lock nut against the outer lock nut but in the video where the full build it is all done (th-cam.com/video/rYdXYya70t8/w-d-xo.html) the inner lock nut is tightened against the brake disc hub and not against the outer lock nut. So which one is correct? Is the final build wrong?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes it is shown incorrect in that video. Like we mention in this video, the service manual is a little deceiving and we fell in the same pitfall like a lot of people have. We fixed it shortly after so we could show the proper way for this video. Inner lock nut should be tightened against the outer lock nut so the outer lock nut can't back off. Nice eagle eye noticing that! - Josh
