It's an e-reader not a smartphone, you should keep that in mind while reviewing it. I feel the haptic buttons are perfectly designed. When you are in bed reading comfortably you don't wanna move your hand around the screen to get a page turn, you just squeeze a little on the same spot you are holding the device and that's it. If the placement would have been any higher it would have killed the whole point. Also if it wasn't a little bit hard to press/squeeze then you would have to be very careful while holding the device in one hand so as to not flip the page. I think Amazon did indeed put a lot of thought into it and the final outcome makes perfect sense. Also, the new Kindle PW is also 300ppi now (it was released after you guys uploaded the video, I presume), which doesn't do a favour in justifying the cost of Voyage.
For some reason I love watching kindle reviews... Even old ones... Even repeatedly. To this day... The Voyage has the most crisp screen. Except for the slight Warm to Cool color gradient... It's perfect.
Why are they INSISTING on saying backlight all the time. It is a FRONTLIGHT. ALL passive screens that are lit MUST use frontlights. Backlights are for transparent panels like LCD.
+Wesley Satelis It's actually an important distinction for e-readers. Backlights cause eye-strain (which is why it strains your eyes to look at computers for a long time); frontlights, on the other hand, do not, because the light is actually projecting downward on to the screen rather than upward into your face. Hope this helps! :)
yarrrthekraken Exactly, plus it also reflects the light from the environment at the same time which creates a light that goes better with the environment creating a lower contrast between the screen and the room which makes it easier for the eyes.
Nah guys. A page turn button on Kindles is critical. Old Kindles - you hold them with one hand and just press your thumb down to turn pages. New Kindles - you have to move your thumb, which makes you liable to drop the device, or you have to use two hands. That's why I don't want a Paperwhite.
I personally believe there is a huge difference in screen quality but you have to see them side by side for a proper comparison. These video reviews, although helpful, do not do the Voyage justice. I tried to justify the reasons NOT to spend the extra $80, and if you have the PW2, you certainly might not need the upgrade (Just don't look at the Voyage in person) but for the extra $80, I'd rather have a sleeker, sexier device with MUCH better contrast, sharpness and lighting and know that at 300 ppi, I won't have to worry about upgrading my Kindle in the near future (Unless of course they come out with a 7'' version). So while the Kindle PW2 is "good enough" as stated in the review, go to your local Best Buy and compare them side by side and then and only then, make a proper decision.
I started with a Kindle 2, so for me getting the Voyage is a huge upgrade. Here's what I like about the Voyage; well built with a glass screen and metal housing, highest contrast of all kindles, page buttons. And all kindles seem to be upgraded with the new Bookerly font, even my old Kindle 2. So why not get the best?
Seconded! I'm looking into hacking my kobo to do this. It looks so nice when they have white on black and its much nicer when reading in the dark. I shouldn't have to hack my ereaders to have such a simple function...
Why doesn't Amazon just use physical buttons for page-turning? The physical buttons were easy to use and satisfyingly clicky. I don't understand their obsession with this flat futuristic look at the expense of practicality.
I still use my Kindle 3. No touch screen so I don't have to worry about accidentally highlighting text or anything like that, and it has those big easy to reach clicky buttons for page-turning. I'm seriously still waiting for Amazon to release a new higher-DPI front-lit Kindle with some physical buttons and a switch to disable the touchscreen. Until that happens, I'm going to stick with the 3.
The *Amazon Kindle Voyage* is the best option in price/quality. I just bought mine with a reall good *DISCOUNT* here: plus.google.com/105984844107363097267/posts/aQZK3hFzYmM
I have a fist gen paperwhite and now the Voyage. I liked the PW fine but ended up maxing the 1.25gb usable memory, had planned on getting another and upgraded to the Voyage. One thing that my first gen doesn't do but the Voyage does is landscape view (disables the buttons btw), may seem odd to some but it gives you more edge to hang on to if you have fat fingers or just want a better grip without covering text...
Once the price drops on the Voyage, I am buying it! I like the flat surface better, 300 dpi, and auto light feature. Hopefully by the summer it will drop to $150
I just bought mine, haven't recieved yet, but the reason I chose voyage it's because it handles pdf files much better. Pepper white can crash with heavy pdfs.
Just broke my kindle voyage, had it in my coat pocket and somehow cracked the dynamic glass touch screen. The crack did not involve the reading area, but the controls were all gone, I could only turn it off and on with button on the back(unlike my iphone screen which still works normally with a crack across it). I didn't have a replacement plan, so I bought a new dynamic screen (only 19.99 on ebay) and followed a disassembly video, having successfully replaced a cracked laptop screen before. Turns out the dynamic touch glass is adhered to the lcd screen underneath. No way to remove without destroying the lcd, which I did. $200 toasted. Go with another kindle, avoid the thin dynamic glass (probably 1 mm thick tops and easily cracked) or get a really sturdy cover and a replacement plan. I learned that the "voyage " is misnamed and not sturdy enough to travel with.
I really like the bezels on my voyage and make it so much easier for me as I hate reaching over to turn the page on my 4th generation kindle so I don't have to lift my hands to turn the page and it is actually very noticeable when you press it.
I hate to be that guy, but... Do we really need 300 ppi (our recognition drops off at 240~260 ppi) for reading books? We wouldn't be able to tell with actual writing, and would we need to spend hundreds of dollars more for a infinitesimally smaller amount of aliasing?
Artūrs Kašs Reading Manga on the Paperwhite 2 is perfect. The text isn't small at all and is actually the same size as a regular Paperback Manga novel. Trust me I been testing it for the past 3 weeks when I got my new Paperwhite 2. It also has panel view option which works well. But most of the time I don't need to use this feature. I buy my manga from the Kindle Store and also upload my own.
Tested One thing you did not touch on, with the resolution aspect is Kindle paperwhites, and I presume kindle voyage are comic and manga compatible. In that regards a higher resolution is beneficial.
Beach is less about splash of water and is more about sand particles blown by the wind. It managed to ruin/scratch the LCD of my camera pretty bad on just a single windy day on the beach. Those days where you'd rather read something than swim.
Why is it necessary to turn the brightness UP in already well-lit environments? Wouldn't you want it to just behave like a normal book with the brightness turned all the way down? Won't it work well like that? Or it does, but the self-light adds to the experience?
Because it's not paper, it's a display with a back light and glass in front of it. The brighter the light in the room the more reflection on the display, drowning out the contrast of the black letters making them harder to see. On a book it's just ink on a page, nothing reflective in front of the page.
Thank you that's interesting. Is the light so good that it makes the reading experience better despite that old models didn't have glass in front of the screen and could be illuminated better by the sun or a lamp? Wouldn't this make PW3 better in terms of externally illuminated reading, because there is no glass as the screen is not flush with the frame? On old kindles that weren't illuminated, was it better to read or worse? Purely speaking of the light experience and contrast.
Now see I just got my Kindle Paperwhite 2 3 weeks ago. Staples had it on sale for $89.99. One week special in store. I couldn't pass the savings. And it didn't come with the Special Offers either which was a added bonus. Comparing this to the Kindle Voyage? At $200.00 it's not worth it when it doesn't have major upgrades from the Paperwhite 2.
Be nice to know how it works on PDF content. Technical people read a lot of PDF documents. Since the Kindle does not format PDF content, the entire printed page size is rendered on the kindle screen which is not adequately visible on the paperweight due to its reduced size screen. The Kindle DX addressed this but never lived up to its promise of a text book replacement. I was interested in knowing if the 300 dpi of the Voyage makes the Kindle a practical PDF reader.
I think they are missing one.. very important feature... "Text-to-Speech"... Which allows you to listen through an electronic voice doing the actual reading for you....so you just sit there and listen to it..like an audiobook... I don't see this feature on this model or the Paperwhite!... Do they come with it?
If you like how the touch works, the paperwhite will be a nice upgrade from that. The first Kindle I bought was the 3rd generation. The one I currently own is the paperwhite (6th generation). What I miss from the old one is that I could hold it in either hand. I was putting off buying one hoping they would add that feature back. I switch between both hands when reading. So when they removed that feature, I was disappointed even though they added a much needed light. If I hadn't broken my 1st kindle, I wouldn't have upgraded. Now that they added it back, I am seriously considering upgrading. I just wish they gave you an option for white or black like they did with the current paperwhite.
simply amazing!! so useful.. Many thanks for sharing this video with us! you answerd many of questions I've had.. I wish if you could speak more abour the different cases that Amazon offer.. and more importantly.. the point of other languages.. Arabic.. Does kindle support Arabic books? and what about the dictionaries, Is there En/Ar dictionary?!? Thanks a lot again!!
The bright "Kindle" would be annoying when reading as it draws your eye. The only issue I have with my kindle glo is it lags all the time. When turning pages this drives me nuts and I even have it freeze sometimes. This is the only reason I am looking for a new ereader because I'm not going to notice or care about the resolution for just printed text.
So are the ads just on the lock screen? I think I remember seeing an ad banner at the bottom of screen on one of the browsing menus. Is that banner ad still there for the voyage?
i was really impressed with the Kindle battery, it told me low battery, to charge it soon. i was able to read for another 3 hours on a train all the way home b4 it died.
Its nice to read that kind of impressive performance. But, try to do not do that frequently, it could put a lot of stress on the battery and eventually could get broken.. At least that happened to me with some smartphones and a ps3 DualShock 3 controller :(
Kobo made them waterproof, I have Kindle Paperwhite 2nd gen, I think, I'll stay with my Paperwhite for awhile. The memory is the same, and I haven't get any complain yet.
I have the Ad supported super cheep kindle, And actually don't mind the ads, and though I am loathe to admit it, have discovered a few authors via the ads.
Soo do i get the voyage as my first kindle or the paperwithe? The price difference is big enough to be a deciding factor, but not that big to be a no brainer. So is it worth it for a first pick up? All i got from this video was it isn't worth upgrading. But not if it's a better first pick. I'm considering getting one for a few month's now but now I'm even more confused which to get...
Depends what you are doing with it, and how rich you are. if you have the money to throw away, go the voyage. It is essentially exactly what the paperwhite is, just with some added features. If you are just reading books, and not manga or comics and price is a concern go the paperwhite. I've had mine for over a year now and it has never failed me. Also just a note, don't buy the ad supported version, the ads are annoying as hell often advertising books I am uninterested in like twilight and womens love romances. The extra $20 is worth it for the unlocked version.
Will grousing about the Voyage not being waterproof is interesting... How often do folks read in the tub / pool? I never have with traditional books/magazines and haven't been tempted with emedia. Just curious how real this need was for others. e-ink has come a long way in the past few years but I agree with one poster, its unfortunate that this type of display has to clear by inverting between pages. Even though it's now quite subtle, it's still a bit distracting. Also... I thought the text on screen at 8:37 (center screen) and a few other instances after was pretty funny (I know, I'm being childish). I can imagine the editors going over this and thinking "Oh crap. Did you see that? Ah, screw it, nobody will notice." ;)
Because one of the whole reasons to get an ereader is that it looks just like paper, with the higher resolution and contrast it does look more like paper. The other two with lower contrast and resolution look like paper where the text is slightly faded and not as sharp as text in a book while the voyage looks great. Also on the other two, black parts of he screen look blu-ish with the light on while the kindle voyage, the light not being perfect, excels at keeping it black so the whites are whiter and the blacks are blacker for an overall experience that looks more like a book page than anything else out there besides a book page
Another great review but i have one question. I have the paperwhite (the updated version with amazon in the back) love it but im think about maybe to upgrade to the voyage for the new resolution. So my question, can you turn of the buttons on the sides?
Just went from kindle to the new kobo. Impressed by it so far. Nice being able to read in the bath worry free and the slightly larger screen is actually really good.
even better is you can get books from any source, not just amazon. Highly recommend you take a look at Calibre, its free software that allows you to convert books etc
I used calibre a lot with my kindle, I have to say, it makes me not fussed about Kobo supporting epub as converting is so trivial! I use calibre to put all my books on the Kobo anyway because it's easy.
Every kindle my family, friends or i have had has failed after 10-13 months, without the warranty, we'd have been screwed. I don't think second hand kindles are a good buy.
I have a Kindle 5 and I upgraded to the Voyage because 1. it also has the page turn (not really a button on the Voyage) and 2. it was $10 including origami case at the local thrift store. Apparently they sell all Kindles for $10 regardless of the version. I use my Kindle 5 for everyday use in and out of the house. I keep it in my purse when I am not using it or charging it. I use the Voyage for night time reading and keep it by my bed. I miss the text to speech my Kindle Keyboard had but am able to follow along using Alexa or text to speech on my cheap Kindle Fire 5th Gen. I also have a Fire Phone that I purchased to replace my iPod. Alexa does not work on the Fire Phone. I do not have the advantage of whisper sync while I am reading but if I lose my place I can sync them during a break.
This is one of those situations where, in their attempt to please everybody, they end up pleasing nobody. The people who like touch don't like the raised haptic line on the side, and the button people don't like the placement, size or response of the haptic line. I'd choose a second gen over this one, even if they were priced the same.
***** I obviously haven't used the Voyage, thus my watching this video. If I had, I wouldn't be seeking out videos on the topic. If they're flush and can be turned off, then I guess they aren't a problem. As for the screen PPI, they quite clearly pointed out that the difference is only visible at the smallest font. I can't imagine very many people read at that font size. I don't know how you could possibly know most people's opinions about the button placement. I guess I'll just have faith that you took a poll. The main selling points for people who don't care about the buttons would be weight and thinness. As for my being an "angry paperwhite user", I'm curious as to what of anything I've said implies anger. Apparently someone can't be constructively critical of something without being "angry". If anyone has a negative temperament here, it's obviously you, being hyper-defensive of the Voyage. Even if the points are correct, "it's not what you said, it's how you say it."
***** Hoping not to come off as ostentatious, I assure you I am in no way jealous of any Kindle user. I can certainly buy any model they offer if I want it. After reading some more reviews, it has come up that many people notice a bluish hue on one half of the screen. That would be my only concern with the Voyage. If they fixed that in a subsequent revision, then I would certainly pick up the Voyage if I needed a new Kindle.
5 Broken Paperwhite screens later ... bought a Fire. I keep the kindle in a front pocket with my wallet. Even never dropped, the e-ink versions seem to last 4-6 months.
question everyone!! I have lots of epub files on my phone. so my question is will I be able to transfer it to kindle through computer or even the cloud? I've downloaded my books via desktop and not the kindle app store. soo yeah I'm really planning to buy this thing cause I'm a huge book fan
Hi Shazer. Search for a software called Calibre. It helps you manage your ebooks, convert formats and send them to your e-reader easily. It's really great, and also free, so it's not like I want to sell you anything, LOL :) I hope it's useful.
Rosangela Sena what do you mean? Too small or too big? Im trying to decide if to get one and want to cover all my bases so any help would be appreciated :-).
Well, I believe you would only feel this detail once u had kindle paperwhite first because u're used to it, but if you don't, u won't feel it. If you live in the US buy this kindle voyage because the price is awesome. Here in Brazil it's 899,00 which means u could buy 3 with that money hahaha.Kindle Voyage is the best of all. =)
+DragoonGalaxy No, because its not that big of an issue for something like an e-ink reader. This is coming from a person who has horrible eyes from staring at computer screens all day. Its comfortable no matter what light levels your in. Cheers!
The designers obviously do not read, or they do not read enough. They are upgrading totally unrelevant aspects, and leaving biggest drawbacks untouched. This device should disappear when you start reading a book, and doing so with new buttons, shiny-screaming logo, and glossy black bezel is impossible. I own a Paperwhite and spend too much time cleaning dust motes from the bezel, and covering Kindle logo with my thumb. Grey unlit Kindle Touch is still the best Kindle ever made.
the only draw back tough is the i go through head phones like crazy fast.. or head phone wires anyway.. i which they would develop at better audio plug standard that near indestructible... or something.... There has to be some way to get the industry to stop making shit that breaks to easily... Maybe we could have a law that unless a audio Cable cant survive being driven over a tank its manufacturers is driven over by a tank...
I have gone through kindle voyage review from this site named ebookwebsite.com and I was thinking to buy one. Please suggest if I should consider it or some other kindle.
Isn't that a weird feeling? I have a Kindle 3! It works GREAT and has no signs of slowing, nor do I feel the need to upgrade. I feel like it could easily last a dozen years. But they put out a new design with new features every year. I'm sure it's nice to have more resolution and the backlight and the zippy page turns.... but I can't justify spending that dough.
Because one of the whole reasons to get an ereader is that it looks just like paper, with the higher resolution and contrast it does look more like paper. The other two with lower contrast and resolution look like paper where the text is slightly faded and not as sharp as text in a book while the voyage looks great. Same here. Kindle 3? with a keyboard here. Backlight would be very nice but for the sake of a £3 clip on led light, it does the job nicely still. The touch screen on my girlfriends kindle actually annoys me as I keep accidentally changing the page.
- Drop the tactile. It's impractical in crowded transportations. The old buttons are much better - Drop the backlight. It's useless and very annoying. - Make it waterproof so it can handle the rain
Dude I hope u joked in the beginning with the "a book is irrelevant and format should not count"....Physical books will ALWAYS out rule the electronic ones. Always. And yes, I have a kindle because free books :D
a kindle without text-to-speech is useless! frankly i dont see why they dont drop the display and do a all listening device with just a head phone jack Bluetooth support and the minimal gui needed to navigate through books and download books.. I mean seriously why would anyone want to actually sit down and read when they can listen? I listen and use that time to sketch things or work on code... anyway that why i dont like tha paper Whites... either i go for kindle touch or kindle fire
+x111 xxx (x111download) Its not a tablet with an led/lcd screen, it has a e ink display which doesnt support color. The screen doesnt support regular apps, and thats not its purpose. It simulates reading on paper and is easier on the eyes. The only useless thing here is your comment.
+DerrajCM, are you joking or something, e-ink screen it's just a screen and can be implement on any device !!! And for me it must be on Android OS when I will be able to install the apps that I need. And amazon e-readers are useless piece of shit as well as kindle, kobo and nook. I'm not going to use only what they gave me !!! Hopefully, China produces exactly what I need.
***** Notice how the screen has flash black when the page refreshes or changes? It has to do that whenever something on the screen changes so that the liquid from the last page you were on goes away. You cant have apps that constantly change color or have any moving images, which cuts out most apps from the app store, and basically every game. Everything would have to be in greyscale too. Its meant for reading, thats why its called a reader. Amazon only offers non animated games like board games.
I don't get it either. Which is why I still have a very old kindle.

You can change the sensitivity on the buttons on the side. Which I feel that has helped with touching the buttons.
The Slow Regard of Silent Things. Nice! Great book choice.
When you put them side by side to compare you didn't mention which was which to begin with.

I would just like to say I have bad eye floaters and I really like the cheep Kindle with the tan or not so white background.

If only the my kindle 3 had the back light then it'll be perfect.
I still think the Kindle 3 is the best.
The higher DPI should help for reading comics/manga, although the paperwhite was already a big upgrade from the early low resolution e-ink screens.
If I wanted to read manga I would probably want a bigger screen for it. Higher ppi doesnt really help if the text is too small to read.
Artūrs Kašs Reading Manga on the Paperwhite 2 is perfect. The text isn't small at all and is actually the same size as a regular Paperback Manga novel. nope, its not backlit - the light is illumitating a plate infront of the display.
Firsh I usually read with it off in well lit environments and use it between 8 or 10 brightness level in dark environments.
I got it since then :) Yeah I dod the same but 8-10 only works for me in very dark rooms. Normal light it's more like 12-15. Sunlight = 1
I think I'd get a Voyage if I didn't already have a 2nd generation Paperwhite, but it doesn't seem like a big enough improvement to upgrade.
If I do buy another kindle (had a 2nd Gen screen cracked) I'll probably buy the cheaper one because I don't really have a need for the other features
I don't understand why it needed to be 200 dollars.
Because hipsters and demand.
I’m still rockin my 4th gen kindle.
I think they are missing one.. very important feature... "Text-to-Speech"... Which allows you to listen through an electronic voice doing the actual reading for you....so you just sit there and listen to it..like an audiobook... I don't see this feature on this model or the Paperwhite!... Do they come with it?
No they dont
Nice, you're reading The Slow Regard of Silent Things. What did you think of it, Will?
Upgrading from a kindle touch, should I save money and get the paperwhite or go for this?
toddbod94 Just go to the paper white, it is so much cheapear and pretty mum the same. Unless you need pressure sensors the paper is fine.
It depends on where you read too, and your budget. The weight is a bigger factor too, even makes oasis worth it for some people
The new set is much more aesthetically pleasing!
I agree.
simply amazing!!
Thanks a lot again!!
please compare Amazon Kindles:
*Oasis vs *Voyage vs *Paperwhite .
Please?
The bright "Kindle" would be annoying when reading as it draws your eye. The only issue I have with my kindle glo is it lags all the time. When turning pages this drives me nuts and I even have it freeze sometimes. This is the only reason I am looking for a new ereader because I'm not going to notice or care about the resolution for just printed text.
So are the ads just on the lock screen? I think I remember seeing an ad banner at the bottom of screen on one of the browsing menus. Is that banner ad still there for the voyage?
I would have liked to have seen a comparison of the graphic images.
Stop calling it a backlight. It comes from the edge--not the back.
i was really impressed with the Kindle battery, it told me low battery, to charge it soon. i was able to read for another 3 hours on a train all the way home b4 it died.
The Nook is also waterproof and if you have a Paperwhite you can send it to a company called waterfi, and they'll waterproof it for you.
I live in Indonesia, no waterfi here. I think I'll keep it away from bathroom. Lol. Thanks !
I have the Ad supported super cheep kindle, And actually don't mind the ads, and though I am loathe to admit it, have discovered a few authors via the ads.
I would very much like to see Amazon work on their software a bit, you know, the justification that people been asking for years.
LG G Pad for 150 USD Used. 60 of that was store credit.
Just ordered this one for my study! :3
Get the paper white. If it's not worth upgrading, it's not worth buying, either.
Touch isn't that responsive. Especially when humidity is low.
Is Voyage faster than Paperwhite? Has menu changed?
I don't know why you would buy it over, say... the HD, especially with the price drop. Or even the paperwhite.
Because one of the whole reasons to get an ereader is that it looks just like paper, with the higher resolution and contrast it does look more like paper. The other two with lower contrast and resolution look like paper where the text is slightly faded and not as sharp as text in a book while the voyage looks great. Also on the other two, black parts of he screen look blu-ish with the light on while the kindle voyage, the light not being perfect, excels at keeping it black so the whites are whiter and the blacks are blacker for an overall experience that looks more like a book page than anything else out there besides a book page
westsideaquariums That is so racist.
AHAHAHAHA!
can you turn the backlight off all the way on any kindle?
First Kindle. Got Voyage Wi-Fi. 3G is a waste of money. Don't even use it on my iPad.
I just feel one person is more than enough to introduce Voyage.
Another great review but i have one question. I have the paperwhite (the updated version with amazon in the back) love it but im think about maybe to upgrade to the voyage for the new resolution. So my question, can you turn of the buttons on the sides?
Yes u can turn them off but I find myself using them a lot more than I thought I would
Thanks, hm. Now I just have to decide if it's worth it to upgrade from my perfectly functional paperwhite 2.
agree but.. the 300ppi is for PDFs.
More pixels doesn't help if the text is too small to read for pdfs you probably want a bigger screen.
I wish this video was in 4k or even 1080p.
I think that the higher resolution is useful for comics and manga, but I don't know if one can get them for Kindle. Does it have comics/manga support?
Still prefer my kobo to my Kindle by quite a margin.
Very tempted to get the new Kobo as well, it is waterproof!
Dragonbait.. great name!! You name just reminded me of Azure Bonds, which I just bought on my voyage. This thing is awesome.
shakajumbo
haha! Yes thats where I got the name originally, I read that book years and years ago and loved it! It's still on my shelf :)
Every kindle my family, friends or i have had has failed after 10-13 months, without the warranty, we'd have been screwed. I don't think second hand kindles are a good buy.
I have a Kindle 5(th generation), the last one to have the page turn buttons, is it worth it to upgrade to the Kindle Paperwhite 3?
Levi Pinkard The raised line is there, even if you can disable them. That's mainly what I was referring to.
Ginger Ale okay I'll do some good researching about it. thanks man!
still cant decide which to buy, PW or voyage
Get the voyage... I have one and it's amazing :D
The only thing that I don't like about the Voyage is the size. =(
Rosangela Sena what do you mean? Too small or too big? Im trying to decide if to get one and want to cover all my bases so any help would be appreciated :-).
Well, I believe you would only feel this detail once u had kindle paperwhite first because u're used to it, but if you don't, u won't feel it. If you live in the US buy this kindle voyage because the price is awesome. Here in Brazil it's 899,00 which means u could buy 3 with that money hahaha.Kindle Voyage is the best of all. =)
+Nikki Johnson (TheBakingSlave) I don't think it's possible for someone to find the Kindle Voyage too big. It's small and very light.
FRONTLIGHT !!!
I do not know if this is a dumb question or not, but can I read books in color using this tablet? A lot of the programing books come with color code
Arthur Loginow it's greyscale
Arthur Loginow You can read in color on the kindle fire though.
Nickolle Johnson we should be friends
Arthur Loginow Lol, why is that?
Nickolle Johnson Because we were both watching this video?
What's with it flickering black a the time in the video ?
Every few pages e-ink devices refresh
does this have any kind of FLUX feature so it isn't harsh on the eyes when reading at night?
+DragoonGalaxy No, because its not that big of an issue for something like an e-ink reader. This is coming from a person who has horrible eyes from staring at computer screens all day. Its comfortable no matter what light levels your in. Cheers!
It's not an led screen
What's reading?
What's it like to use this to do gmail? I'm assuming it's possible to do it with the 3G version and the web browser.
Seems like a rip off. I'll just buy the paperwhite
That's what I did. I thought that the Paperwhite would be suitable for my purposes for the cheapest price. I read a lot at night.
I have gone through kindle voyage review from this site named ebookwebsite.com and I was thinking to buy one. Please suggest if I should consider it or some other kindle.
Newest Fire Tablet
What is it with these ebook manufacturers and tiny screens? It just doesn't work.
craigenputtock Tell that to the millions of people that love their Kindles!
2:06 You can see the abysmal full justification even from that far away. "Good enough" my ass. Also: pixels.
also why the hell don't they even mention text-to-speech at all? at least not so far (half way through... i comment as i Watch...)
Shit, I still have my kindle touch, the one without the backlight. I use that thing all the freaking time. I still don't need this thing.
Isn't that a weird feeling? I have a Kindle 3! It works GREAT and has no signs of slowing, nor do I feel the need to upgrade. I feel like it could easily last a dozen years. But they put out a new design with new features every year. I'm sure it's nice to have more resolution and the backlight and the zippy page turns.... but I can't justify spending that dough.
crockeronline Exactly, the only reason I would want to upgrade is the backlight. Being able to read without a light on would be great.
Because one of the whole reasons to get an ereader is that it looks just like paper, with the higher resolution and contrast it does look more like paper. The other two with lower contrast and resolution look like paper where the text is slightly faded and not as sharp as text in a book while the voyage looks great. Also on the other two, black parts of he screen look blu-ish with the light on while the kindle voyage, the light not being perfect, excels at keeping it black so the whites are whiter and the blacks are blacker for an overall experience that looks more like a book page than anything else out there besides a book page.
Same here. Kindle 3? with a keyboard here. Backlight would be very nice but for the sake of a £3 clip on led light, it does the job nicely still.
The touch screen on my girlfriends kindle actually annoys me as I keep accidentally changing the page.
- Drop the tactile. It's impractical in crowded transportations. The old buttons are much better
- Drop the backlight. It's useless and very annoying.
- Make it waterproof so it can handle the rain
Amazon site says they are both 300ppi
Infinite Knight this is a 2014 video.
I can not stand that black and white inverting screen every single time you touch the screen
Dude I hope u joked in the beginning with the "a book is irrelevant and format should not count"....Physical books will ALWAYS out rule the electronic ones. Always. And yes, I have a kindle because free books :D
ppl discussing the graphics of an electronic bookreader >.
ereaders should not be any more then 100 buck at most...
I am a little confused, why is anybody even contemplating buying one of
these when the 'fire' range is a thousand times better?
still doesn't smell like a book, so no thanks
TLDW
a kindle without text-to-speech is useless!
frankly i dont see why they dont drop the display and do a all listening device with just a head phone jack Bluetooth support and the minimal gui needed to navigate through books and download books..
I mean seriously why would anyone want to actually sit down and read when they can listen?
I listen and use that time to sketch things or work on code...
anyway that why i dont like tha paper Whites... either i go for kindle touch or kindle fire
How about to install any apps from google store ?!
if not, it useless piece of shit !
btw, bad review!
+x111 xxx (x111download) Its not a tablet with an led/lcd screen, it has a e ink display which doesnt support color. The screen doesnt support regular apps, and thats not its purpose. It simulates reading on paper and is easier on the eyes. The only useless thing here is your comment.
+DerrajCM, are you joking or something,
e-ink screen it's just a screen and can be implement on any device !!!
+DerrajCM, obviously I meant reading apps !!! LOL
And full access to e-reader.
***** So "any" means "reading apps" specifically? Makes sense. Anyways, my bad.
