Great Voyage quick-use overview for 2017. I liked that it was fast. since this is my second kindle but first touchscreen, I don't wanna watch drawn out vids. This was info packed!
I think they are missing one.. very important feature... "Text-to-Speech"... Which allows you to listen through an electronic voice doing the actual reading for you....so you just sit there and listen to it..like an audiobook... I don't see this feature on the Voyage or the Paperwhite!... like previous kindle versions.... Why did they remove it?.... That is why ... I haven't changed my Keyboard kindle version.. or my XD version...since I use the Text-to-speech quite often....specially when driving ...!
They removed it because they added the audio books to their retail line. Profit plain and simple. They wanted us to pay for audio books. They're too expensive IMHO. It's easier to get them from the library and listen to them on your smart device for free.
I'm going to get one in a few weeks. It sounds so complicated. I guess once I get it and work with it, it won't be, but listening to you, it sounds so mind boggeling. Haha. I have a question that you may or may not know the answer to. I was going to order a TaylorHE vinyl skin made for the Voyage and XShields Screen Protectors, and I was wondering if it would interfer with the ambient light sensor? The skin I want to get for protection of the device itself, and because they have some nice designs and the screen protectors because, heck, they are only .99 for two. If they don't work, I'm not out anything since I will have gone over the $35 for the free shipping and handling with the accessories. Thanks for the tutorial. I am pretty sure once I get one, I'll be back watching a little more closely.
ProudKansan08 I realize your question was asked 2 months ago but the subject is still valid so I hope my answer could help someone else: the Voyage has a small photosensor on the left-top corner which measures ambient light to dim screen accordingly, all you have to take care of is to not occlude it.
Ok, and thank you for answering me back. I haven't put the protective covers on them yet. The covers didn't come with the squeegie and a cloth that were supposed to be included, and my daughter suggested that I take it to Radio Shack or someplace like a cell phone store where they can put the protectors on without airbubbles---hopefully.
I don't think that it would be that hard! What you need to do is: 1. Clean the screen: you can use a microfiber cloth or a very soft tissue hanky, just give it a shot of a lens or screen spray cleaner first _then_ rake your Kindle screen from top to bottom or left to right (or vice versa, of course), DON'T do any circular moves as those would scratch the screen - just the same way they do with glasses; 2. If there's any surplus of cleaning liquid remove it with a dry cloth/hanky taking care of applying on the parts where the leftover resides; 3. With the aid of a credit card or similar object apply the film over the screen. If you are unsure check YT for tutorials, there are plenty of them ;)
Thank you, Martin. You have been such a big help. I'm sort of new to this sort of stuff and slightly computer and anything related illiterate. My husband and I are learning, however.
Generally a good review in the prior Voyage review I saw you did and then these tips and tricks. Having been using it for a while I knew most of them, but still pick up a few things or learn some subtleties. Thank you for the videos. What I really wanted to know though was about the current implementation of Collections. I think the implementation could use some improvement, and this exacerbates problems caused by my lack of understanding. For example you can add a new book to a previously created collection, but then not be able to access that collection. I think this is poor implementation, but realize it also because I have not gone online or done whatever is necessary to set how the collection appears. Further, it seems to work differently from on my Paperwhites (1st & 2nd Generations). This could be more of a software change than a difference between the devices. Since direct computer access to creation/management of collections unfortunately no longer exists, I gather they are trying to make them more flexible and have them appear across your devices. This will be good once I managed to get them set conveniently, but confusing at the moment. I am not sure how fine a control one has, but that is what I am looking to learn. So far I have not seen any videos that discuss the new aspects related to collections and how to precisely change the configuration. In other words, as you showed either here or on the previous video of yours that I watched, creating a collection is easy. However, try to create a collection or use a collection that already exists on another or prior device. Some tips regarding collection management would be appreciated. It would probably make a good video by itself.
Perhaps I should mention there is a help topic that answers some questions, perhaps just that the collections are not as flexible as they should be.
