    I LOVE THIS MV!
The concept is based in a book called "Damien" by Hermann Hesse.
    I actually read this book.
In the story, Sinclair (in this mv, Jin) is a boy that live in a rich family and he says is the "world of light". When he starts to get out of this world (growing up), he sees that there is duality in the world: it's actually light (his family) and dark (the outside world). He met Damien (in the mv V) that is a boy who protects him in a time of need and with him, Sinclair will go deeper and deeper knowing this "evil world" and lost his innocence when he learn more and more (not only because of Damien).
The point of the book that the mv shows to us is the fight between this two worlds. Many things in the mv are a reference to the book.
It's the lost of the innocence, the light and the dark (you can see the colors white and black in many things in this mv, you can also see a reference to Icarus when Jungkook is pendent in the air).
This is my favorite mv, one of my favorite songs too and the book is really good and a classic.
I loved your reaction and interpretation, isn't a GREAT masterpiece????

The "Blood Sweat and Tears" MV and lyrics were built and written based on Demian, a novel by Hermann Hesse which won a Nobel prize in literature back in 1946. I read this book (because of this MV) and I'll try my best to interpret and summarise the story here.
The story follows a young boy named Sinclair who had a friend named Demian. Demian acted as Sinclair's mentor during his childhood and transition to adulthood. Sinclair as a young adult experienced series of existential crisis, believing he lived in between the world of light (the world of illusion, full of goodness) and "the dark world" (the real world which was full of lust, temptation, anger and evil world).
Demian, and later on Sinclair's another mentor Pistorius, believed that in order to become a full person a human needs to embrace both of their light and dark sides. This will then lead Sinclair to find out about Abraxas, the god of light and darkness.
There are sooo many imageries and jaw-dropping details on the MV that represent details in the book. But the point is this song is about the loss of innocence and temptation, about being a human and embracing both of your good and dark sides.
Jin represents Sinclair in this scenario. The scene where Jin kissed the statue (which I believe the representation of Abraxas, who is also V) means he seals the deal with the devil himself in order to fully embrace himself as a person who isn't perfect, full of flaws. The white and black doors represent the world of light and the real world. Suga playing piano represents Pistorius who was an organ player in the story. The phrase that RM read in English here was also taken from the book, page 26 (on the version that I read). It says "He too was a tempter, he too was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer have anything to do."
"He" here refers to Demian, that Sinclair once thought as a bad influence for him, maybe it's because Sinclair tried to deny his dark sides.
The book is heavily influenced by a Swiss philosopher and psychiatrist Carl Jung. One of his pupils was Hermann Hesse's doctor back then. This MV and song are also influenced by a german philosopher Nietzsche. There's a quote by him on the wall above the painting that Jin is staring at. It is in German but it means "You must have chaos within you in order to give a birth to a dancing star". Again, the same theme occurs here, about embracing both of your light and dark sides. Only by accepting your flaws and mistakes you can reach your true potentials.
Hesse learned a lot about Jung's psychoanalysis and experienced it himself so that was why Demian was heavily influenced by it. What makes it even more interesting, BTS album MOTS 7 is also based on Carl Jung's theory (hence the songs Persona, Shadow, and Ego were born-- these 3 elements are important in Jung's theory Maps of the Soul).
BTS are deep, my friends. They talk about real things like the pain of growing up and youth's experience. They literally make a lot of ARMY become smarter and read on classic literature like this because of them. lol. Welcome to the fandom!
(Please note once again that this is all my own interpretation after reading the book, take it with a grain of salt.)
Tons of art pieces are represented in that mv:
    - Pieta (Michelangelo)
    - The Fall of the Rebel Angels (Pieter Bruegel)
    - Landscape with the Fall of Icarus (Pieter Bruegel)
    - The Lament for Icarus (Herbert James Draper)
    - Baroque Fresco (Giuaglio Quaglio)
    - Perseus with the head of Medusa (Benvenuto Cellini)
    - Livia Drusilla as Ops, goddess of fertility
    - Laocoon and his Sons
    - Crouching Venus
    - Venus de Milo
    - Venus at the Forge of Vulcan (Francesco Solimena)
    - Ares Borghese
    - Diana of Versailles
    - Angelus Novus (Paul Klee)
    - Regimental Band (Darsie Japp)
    - French fashion photograph (Henri Manuel)

This song is about temptation and loss of innocence. The music video is based on the novel Demian, by German author Herman Hess. I didn’t have to read it in college, but I have friends who did. Highly recommend the explanation video for this one. This is a good one for Blood Sweat and Tears. th-cam.com/video/5tlgAUE6yjg/w-d-xo.html

I OVE THIS EXPLANATION VIDEO! This mv REALLY changed my entire view on BTS instantly. I think this was my 4th mv I checked out, but watching the explanation video (technically a fan theory) just really clicked with me. I find it SO INTERESTING that they are so artistic with their music - their art.

the way I screamed when you said its your fav of theres so far. Blood Sweat & Tears is hands down my favorite song. And the Wings album is tied for my favorite album.
the song is about temptation and it draws heavily from Damien and the visuals in the mv really set it all up. ugh i just love this song so much, they went sooo hard
Arguably one of the best bts songs of all time

" I dunno if it's deeper than that"....... oh boy if only u knew.................
ths mv is inspired by books, every second of it has a different meaning, every single visual detail, it also is a little a part of a huge storyline that bts songs have....
its meaning has anything to do with a romantic relationship, it's about falling into temptation.

  • @kelsgm19
    @kelsgm19 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Really appreciated your comments on this one! Blood, Sweat and Tears is hands down my favourite BTS music video. The artistry, deep meanings and lyrics altogether make this work so well.
One of my personal interpretations of this music video is that it's a story about temptation. The music video parallels many religious stories, greek legends and artistic works which all have the theme of Temptation in common. Some symbolic references include the fallen angel and the poisonous apple - but there's many more in there.
As a literature graduate, this music video makes me very happy 😂

Temptation, addiction, sin being attractive and dangerous... Learning about the darker things in life and finding them fascinating, disturbing, challenging, exciting, thrilling, fun (at first anyway) until you can't live without them anymore, even when you realize you are destroying yourself. "I want more, more more!" The dark stuff is often very attractive on the surface but it ends up making you think all sorts of things that change you, which might be good or bad, but is always something to be careful with. This can be about romantic/passionate love but it can be about all sorts of addictions and traps and also fear that keeps you from exploring the wider world. Art - both the visual art on display in the museum and music as an artform - can have profound effects on you, expanding your mind and heart and leaving it open to all sorts of influences.

It has so many details and Easter eggs it's worth watching a theory video, but as someone said already it's about growing, the temptation and loss of innocence. The whole album Wings is amazing. BTS aimed this song (and the album) basically towards youth. The main going on theme is about temptation (of any kind). Any temptation that would ruin an individual. To choose or not to choose. To fall into or not.
Here Jin falls a prey to his temptations and like it's a lore of an angel and a devil on ones shoulders. V is the devil here who lured Jin into the temptation.
Thats why he was showed as a fallen angel with two scars on his back of his angel wings ripped off, bc he too became a prey to the temptation.

You can interpret it to talk about a romantic relationship but there are also different possible interpretations as it actaully can mean any kind of thing you do although you know it's not entirely good for you like an addiction to any possible kind of thing: a person, a substance, a behaviour, music etc.

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. So glad you liked it. Great song. Adore it. Jimin was amazing in this. His voice the dance the fit, chef's kiss! We learn here that Suga can play the organ just as good as he can play the piano. He so awesome! All of them sound seductive just a pleasure for the ears. They look like they are in a museum to me too. =0] I was so surprised by the choreo when i saw it seperate. They leave a lot out. Fire!=0p Also, pls check out the explanation video for this MV. V is a fallen angel to me. He gives in to temptation all of them do. If u read the lyrics and pay attention to the symbolism the song is clearly about temptation not a relationship. Hugs -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜

A note about the organ music you might find interesting/relevant:
The piece that is heard is Buxtehude's, "Passacaglia in D minor," which is also the piece that Emil hears in the Pistorius section of the novel.*

I suppose you understand why this song has been used during lectures at uni haha. You're definitely on the right track, but there's sooo much more hidden in this song/mv. I love the explanation video by Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid ( th-cam.com/video/5tlgAUE6yjg/w-d-xo.html ). Fellow reactor Cedric Gegel actually did a great job breaking it down too, though he did it twice - first time for the more "apparent" meaning, and second time for the underlying meanings from the BU.

Please watch an explanation video. Your use of the word she was sending you off on such a serious tangent when trying to interpret the song. The word she prevented you from getting in touch with the messaging. That said the messaging is complex so an explanation video might have been advised even if you hadn't boxed it into talking about a relationship.

This song is much deeper then what we usually thought. It is about growing up, facing temptation and the loss of innocent.
I am not an art major so I didn't get it until I watch the explanation of it. The MV has so much Art references. Some reactors that has some Art background recognize some of it.
If you notice, part of the choreography has the eyes, the ear, and the mouth of 1 member been covered. So, the MV and the choreo all link and connect with the lyric of the song.

It's deeper than that obviously, it's bts. It's about the loss of innocence and the battle between good and evil (in the world and within yourself) and self actualization. The quote above the mirror towards the end is from Nietzche "In order to give birth to dancing stars, you must have chaos within". It's based on the novel Demian by Herman Hesse, and it's not really about romantic relationships at all
