Blood Sweat and Tears video and song were built and written based on Demian, a novel by Hermann Hesse which won a nobel prize in literature back in 1946. I read this book (because of this Mv) and I'll try my best to interpret and summarize the story here.
The story follows a young boy named Sinclair who had a friend named Demian. Demian acted as Sinclair's mentor during his childhood and transition to adulthood. Sinclair as a young adult experienced series of existential crisis, believing he lived in between the world of light (the world of illusion, full of goodness) and "the dark world" (the real world which was full of lust, temptation, anger and evil world).
Demian, and later on Sinclair's another mentor Pistorius, believed that in order to become a full person a human needs to embrace both of their light and dark sides. This will then lead Sinclair to find out about Abraxas, the god of light and darkness.
There are sooo many imageries and jawdropping details on the MV that represent details in the book. But the point is this song is about the loss of innocence and temptation, about being a human and embracing both of your good and dark sides.
The scene where Jin kissed the statue (which I believe the representation of Abraxas) means he seals the deal with the devil himself in order to fully embrace himself as a person who isn't perfect, full of flaws.
The white and black doors represent the world of light and the real world. Suga playing piano represents Pistorius who was an organ player in the story. The phrase that RM read in English here was also taken from the book, page 26 (on the version that I read). It says "He too was a tempter, he too was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer have anything to do."
"He" here refers to Demian, that Sinclair once thought as a bad influence for him, maybe it's because Sinclair tried to deny his dark sides.
The book is heavily influenced by a swiss philosopher and psychiatrist Carl Jung. One of his pupils was Hermann Hesse's doctor back then. This MV and song are also influenced by a german philosopher Nietzche. There's a quote by him on the wall above the painting that Jin is staring at. It is in German but it means "You must have chaos within you in order to give a birth to a dancing star". Again, the same theme occurs here, about embracing both of your light and dark sides. Only by accepting your flaws and mistakes you can reach your true potentials.
Hesse learned a lot about Jung's psychoanalysis and experienced it himself so that was why Demian was heavily influenced by it. What makes it even more interesting, BTS album MOTS 7 is also based on Carl Jung's theory (hence the songs Persona, Shadow, and Ego were born-- these 3 elements are important in Jung's theory Maps of the Soul).
BTS are deep, my friends. They talk about real things like the pain of growing up and youth's experience. They literally make a lot of armys become smarter and read on classic literature like this because of them. lol. Welcome to the fandom!
(Please note once again that this is all my own interpretation after reading the book, take it with a grain of salt.)

Now I'm trying to memorize as many words as possible, this is the most challenging part so far because a lot of words sound similar in my untrained ears.😁 But then again maybe it's because I only spend like 15 minutes a day to study with Duolingo. 😋 You should try Duolingo if you haven't. bts are different from most of other "kpop idols" they contributed as producer, composer and songwriter to each and every album since their debut back in 2013, their songs are mostly abt mental health, youth, social economic injustices(like the stict school system in south korea and more), bullying, woman empowerment, friendship, self love etc.. most of their work were also inprised by past writers and thinkers just like their map of the soul:7 which incorporate psychological concept by swiss psychiatrist sir Carl Jung. they put so much details/hints into their MVs.

Please react to their "Black Swan" music video. The concept there is being afraid of losing their passion and/or creativity for music based off the quote "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." - Martha Graham. 'Black Swan' has a more RnB/hiphop vibe.

This MV is in reference to the book Demian by Hermann Hesse. BTS has a depth when it comes to the meaning of their songs, they do not just make music with good beat, they write and produce songs with deeper meaning. They sing, rap, dance, write, produce and play instruments. They focus on certain issues such as self love, mental health issues, women empowerment, anti bullying, racism, socio economic injustices, global warming etc. We stan this group not just because of their talent but also their personalities and message thru their music. Thanks for reacting. Can you react to "Black Swan" another mind blowing song and production.

Blood sweat and tears is part of BTS's storyline and it's interconnected with other music videos and short films so it would be hard to understand all the symbolism in the MV. The dialogue from RM is a passage from the book Damian which RM also narrates in the Wings Short Films. I would love to see a breakdown of BTS's song called Dis-ease it was produced by member J-Hope during the pandemic ^^

This may not be within your area of interest, but, if you are curious, and for others who are reading this:
A channel called "DON'T WORRY I'M NOT AFRAID" has a very good explanation of this music video titled
"Blood Sweat & Tears: What Does it All Means?"
The explanation / analysis video was uploaded 4 years ago, before theories, analysis and explanation videos became as popular as they are now. BTS was the first (I believe) to use huge story arcs in their music videos.
(The "chandelier" is the pipes of the organ).
The underlying story of this music video can be in Herman Hesse's "Demian" (1919).

"I wasn't expecting a moral guidance" - welcome to BTS' music. It's jam packed with it.
You may not expect it, but it is filled with deep lyrics, symbolism, cultural and art references, philosophical references, metaphors and easter eggs - not to mention the BU (which is storyline that runs through a lot of their MVs connected to short stories, speeches, games etc.). The BU was also present in this mv, but they made it so brilliantly that it can be understood as a separate piece and as part of the BU with two different interpretations.

You will come to learn that BTS always has a more in depth reason for everything they say or do, in their videos and music. Everything is always much more deeper than you would think. Even their seemingly lighthearted songs, if you listen to, or in my case read the lyrics, you will see the tone isn't as lighthearted as it sounds. Keep that in mind when you go down this rabbit hole. That being said, I think you would really like their Black Swan MV as well as Fake Love.💜

Am sorry but the ARMY should be carefull in subscribing to these channels as personally I have noticed that lately some reactors who claims to be music producers or experts on their field are just now reacting to BTS or claims they have not heard of BTS. They are reacting now because they know the ARMY will subscribe and follow them and get more followers. All am saying is be think carefully before subscribing to such channels. Some just do this to increase their subs. Mic drop.

I am concerned that this sounds like Army should not be generous and open minded. Plus I will never understand why so many times I hear a sharp reaction to them being called Kpop, I've heard them call themselves that a number of times, and yes, I agree they are more as well, but no need to get cranky about it.

In order to understand the Blood Sweat & Tears music video well, we need to think about the hint given to us in advance, . The main character, Sinclair, struggles between the comfortable and happy world of light and the new world of darkness. In the end, you fall into temptation and you can't go back to that innocent time again. That is the theme that runs through the music video. The growth of a boy who conflicts in the world of light and darkness. And each of the BTS members is in charge of good and evil (or Sinclair and Damian), and how they react when a boy encounters evil and temptation as he grows up. Resistance to temptation, resignation, and a sweet fall in temptation.

I would recommend the music videos for Black Swan, Fake Love and ON at the moment. If you want to watch a epic live performance I suggest BTS 2019 MMA (melon music awards) performance (in fact any year is great but that one was soooo good). If you want to focus on the vocals I'd say watch the Tiny desk (home) performance (from 2020) and/or the BTS room live (2021).
If you want a song in English I'd say Butter, dynamite or permission to dance (they are currently their only full English songs.)
If you want to try out their Japanese songs I'd say lights, stay gold or film out.
Other MV's: Life goes on, fire, dope, run, save me, Boy with luv......and so many more.
Oh and if you want to see their first music video it's No more Dream.
You'll find the music videos on HYBE labels yt channel and most of the other songs on their BANGTANTV channel (their a lot more on that channel as well...behind the scenes, performances etc) but there are a few exceptions like some Japanese songs are on a Sony japan channel etc but I don't think you'll have any issues.

Wow this is interesting, thanks for doing this one ! This is a bit hard to understand story-wise (Beaucoup explanations available) but is great showcase for one of their the music styles. Don't worry about following the plots at first, there are almost always complex layers in their songs. The lyrics are why I first got hooked on them, (well MAYBE their dancing, good personalities too) but I will love to hear what you say about the musical aspects, and man there are a LOT of genres in their discography. Don't worry about pausing, rewinding, etc; we love longer videos from good reactors. Will watch for you!

“I had a hard time following the plot of this music video,” said every Army the first time watching. It’s a part of the Bangtan Universe which is a fictional storyline that is woven throughout albums, MVs, short films, Webtoons, notes, etc. It’s long and complicated and hopefully not over yet. This album (Wings) is almost entirely BU content. So, most casual listeners or new Armies don’t get it. The BU is amazing and if you’re ready for a deep, deep dive, you should hop in.

I recommend you to check out their song "Pied Piper" (no Music Video), I heard some other TH-camr say, that this song is very interesting in it's music production and that it has two main themes (idk what that means tho.. lol).. th-cam.com/video/VtvloSr6uC8/w-d-xo.html
and also "ON - Kinetic Manifesto" (Music Video)

yeah it's okay though because to understand this music video, your gonna have to look at they're older music videos and short films. their is a cohesive story running through some of their music videos starting from their album, The Most Beautiful Moment In Life Pt.1 to their Wings album. not only is their music videos but their is short films, webtoons, short stories and a mobile game. its a big rabbit hole that a lot of armies know about but haven't explored it yet. but if you want to start exploring it, i recommend watching their music videos and short films first, of course under the name of bighit and if you want to figure out if a music video is part of the BTS Universe (BU) just go to the description of the music video and it will say "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment"
