Wow, I got really surprised at how you totally understood the meaning of Jin kissing the statue, I've seen many reactions and this was the only one that did that. This video was based on the book Demian of Hermann Hesse and I had to read it to be able to understand the message. It's such a pleasure to see people connecting with art and not just superficially watching BTS for views. Great video!!

So glad to hear that I got an interpretation in the way that they intended me to interpret it for once. It’s such a visceral and riveting scene. I’ll check that book out. I’m very interested in what could have inspired that scene.
      Also… I didn’t screenshot that comment because it made me feel good… or… maybe I did 😂🫣

There is also an explanation video that ties the scenes to the book. You guys are so human and intelligent, I truly appreciate you taking the time to appreciate BTS’ depth as opposed to brushing them off like another boy band. Now you understand why ARMY loves them and why we’re so protective of them. They are artists and if you get it, you get it💜💜💜

Linkin Park, Star Wars, Norway, all things I love! You absolutely hit the nail on the head with your description of Jin’s reaction to Abraxas. Having such a visceral reaction to a piece of art in any form can feel almost life changing, my husband had a similar reaction to a painting in the Tate Gallery. The mv is based on Herman Hesse’s novel Demian and theories of Carl Jung. You’ve got yourself another subscriber in me. ✌️💜

The text above the mirror in front of Jin is in German, it's a quote from the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche- "One must have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star"

This reaction I could honestly feel the pull you were feeling and it mirrored my own for all these years watching the art BTS has continuously produced. I remember when this video and the short films leading up to it were released and just thinking man I wish everybody could watch and appreciate this for the art it is instead of just relegating it under the boy band label and therefore it must be less than. Wow, your emotional reaction is exactly what every BTS fan experienced at some point, I think: It's when we feel this connection with them and their art on the most human level. It's when we feel (not just understand) how the human experience connects all of us. And this is something you can't explain to people who haven't felt it and don't have an open heart. They just look at you weird or maybe smile in a friendly way, not taking you seriously. You will have a hard time explaining this experience over "a K-pop boyband" (I call BTS none of this, by the way) to your friends... Thank you for being so open and vulnerable, essentially human, in this reaction.

Welcome to the Army side. We all have been very touched by a video or song that made us fans of BTS. For each person is a different song. For me was Epiphany. I cried my eyes out the first time I’ve seen that live version of Jin singing that song during a concert, was incredible. And after that I found songs that made me happy, empowered, reflective, or any kind of emotion that they transmit. Each member of BTS is an absolute artist, so when they are together is really magical.

Wow guys, I felt your heartfelt emotions coming through the screen. You can enjoy BTS at surface level or you can delve into and appreciate at a deeper level. One of the things I appreciate about their art is often times they leave it up to the consumer to interpret the meanings and feelings it evokes. Other times they share with us what inspired them when writing lyrics or producing music videos. As others have already mentioned in the comments they drew heavily from the concepts in the book Demian. You were spot on regarding acknowledging you have both light and dark inside you. I would say all the guys are lovers of art but I think RM would live in art museums if he could lol. Any time they visit cities on tour and he gets the chance, he's checking out the local museums. A while back BTS even participated/sponsored/promoted a global art exhibition held in a dozen plus locations internationally. Another era of their music you might enjoy is influenced by Carl Jung's theory of personality exploring persona, ego and shadow. At any rate I've rambled long enough lol. Really appreciate your reactions and you have a new subscriber. 😊💜

This was one of their huge concept albums and they just love to create aesthetic videos which have layers and hidden clues everywhere. They say they write songs and MVs you don’t get easily in a single viewing but it’ll take many times to take it in. This one is ridiculously beautiful as each shot is like a work of art. They used so many art styles as inspiration. Also a lot of references to Icarus, Greek mythology, the fall of angels, and heavy references to Damien by Hesse. The mirror has a quote in German from Nietzsche that says “Man muss noch Chaos in sich haben, um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können. [You must have chaos within you to bear a dancing star.]” even the flowers at the end as Jins face cracks are a reference to their big storyline. Really this whole thing is ridiculous, nobody makes music videos like them. Glad you got to experience it. FYI many will recommend Spring Day, and I’d add in a strong trigger warning the MV is filled with references towards a huge Korean tragedy and the explination videos are alot for most reactors. I’d recommend the song that previews this MV “Boy Meets Evil” and then “Singularity” the preview for Fake Love (BTS often/usually has a solo song kick off the theme of an album).
Overall I’d say BTS models a healthy masculinity. They have said many times clothes don’t have genders so have no issue wearing women’s styles (jackets or shirts, even skirts). But also being very in touch with their feelings and showing it’s ok to play, cry, be very close to your friends etc. And of course learning to love yourself.

It blew my mind when I realized, after we stopped recording, that the scene we stopped for was literally only created for about 2-3 seconds of that music video. That level of effort makes no financial sense. But it makes sense if the drive is to make the best product that they possibly can and just trust that money will take care of itself. It sounds silly, but that 2-3 seconds shows how much BTS cares about making sure their production is the absolute best it can possibly be.

And if you look carefully, I think they've repurposed some sets in their videos. I might be wrong, but that room at the beginning looks like the room in Fake Love where the windows were "blown out". Just some new paint, a chandelier, and fantastic set dressing and it wouldn't shock me. I could be completely wrong, but it's also hella smart production work if so. There is at least one other video (and I can't remember which one) where I thought the same thing with a different set. I give them no shade for this, in fact it's really impressive in my book.

I always think the MVs of BTS have the interpretations. The intended one for the song, the intended one for the MV, and the one you find - that you feel - for yourselves.

Blood Sweat and Tears video and song were built and written based on Demian, a novel by Hermann Hesse which won a nobel prize in literature back in 1946. I read this book (because of this Mv) and I'll try my best to interpret and summarize the story here.
The story follows a young boy named Sinclair who had a friend named Demian. Demian acted as Sinclair's mentor during his childhood and transition to adulthood. Sinclair as a young adult experienced series of existential crisis, believing he lived in between the world of light (the world of illusion, full of goodness) and "the dark world" (the real world which was full of lust, temptation, anger and evil world).
Demian, and later on Sinclair's another mentor Pistorius, believed that in order to become a full person a human needs to embrace both of their light and dark sides. This will then lead Sinclair to find out about Abraxas, the god of light and darkness.
There are sooo many imageries and jawdropping details on the MV that represent details in the book. But the point is this song is about the loss of innocence and temptation, about being a human and embracing both of your good and dark sides.
The scene where Jin kissed the statue (which I believe the representation of Abraxas) means he seals the deal with the devil himself in order to fully embrace himself as a person who isn't perfect, full of flaws.
The white and black doors represent the world of light and the real world. Suga playing piano represents Pistorius who was an organ player in the story. The phrase that RM read in English here was also taken from the book, page 26 (on the version that I read). It says "He too was a tempter, he too was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer have anything to do."
"He" here refers to Demian, that Sinclair once thought as a bad influence for him, maybe it's because Sinclair tried to deny his dark sides.
The book is heavily influenced by a swiss philosopher and psychiatrist Carl Jung. One of his pupils was Hermann Hesse's doctor back then. This MV and song are also influenced by a german philosopher Nietzche. There's a quote by him on the wall above the painting that Jin is staring at. It is in German but it means "You must have chaos within you in order to give a birth to a dancing star". Again, the same theme occurs here, about embracing both of your light and dark sides. Only by accepting your flaws and mistakes you can reach your true potentials.
Hesse learned a lot about Jung's psychoanalysis and experienced it himself so that was why Demian was heavily influenced by it. What makes it even more interesting, BTS album MOTS 7 is also based on Carl Jung's theory (hence the songs Persona, Shadow, and Ego were born-- these 3 elements are important in Jung's theory Maps of the Soul).
BTS are deep, my friends. They talk about real things like the pain of growing up and youth's experience. They literally make a lot of armys become smarter and read on classic literature like this because of them. lol. Welcome to the fandom!
(Please note once again that this is all my own interpretation after reading the book, take it with a grain of salt.)

Just to let you know, BTS has been to Norway, Sweden & Finland about 6-7 years ago for their reality show Bon Voyage. And possibly for vacation at other times, I don't remember. They have a big following there as well. If I recall, a fan girl in Norway or Sweden was chasing one of them in the streets, heh. Even Norway's king, King Harald V, has mentioned them. If they haven't been to that aforementioned park, then they might visit it one day, especially like the artsy ones such as RM. But good reaction & discussions. Many of their songs & lyrics have serious messages in them, some of them socio-political & cultural. This is why BTS has not only set themselves apart from most of KPop, but also set apart from many other artists worldwide. We hope to see you continue your BTS journey as you have only seen the tip of the iceberg with 3 reactions.

It’s actually a travesty that they are not winning awards left and right just for music videos alone. While not all their MV’s (or songs) are as deep as this, you know that a whole lot of planning and thinking went into them, be it the choice of location, props, outfits, emotion, imagery, color, story, sound, lyrics, etc. I appreciate BTS and their team for being master storytellers and how they make sure to leave you wanting more. 😊 I also appreciate you guys for having curious and open minds.😊💜

I think all of us ARMY have experienced that moment when a BTS song just hits you so viscerally all of a sudden. For me, it was with a song called Life Goes On. I was just starting to discover BTS, it was mid pandemic, and that song just hit me so hard. It wasn’t even the actual music video that got me, it was an accompanying video called “Like an Arrow” that made me start crying out of no where. I still can’t pinpoint why it hit me so hard, but it felt intimate and nostalgic and hopeful and longing all at once.
I’m really enjoying your BTS journey so far and I’m sure you have a lot of suggestions now but here are some other videos that I think you’d really enjoy:
    Emotional:
    -Life Goes On
-Spring Day (this one is called the queen of their discography)
    Introspective:
    - Intro: Persona
    - Interlude: Shadow
    - Outro: Ego
(These three are interconnected. You don’t have to watch them all in one go but I think it would be helpful.)

I love the depth that you go into on this but on a completely different note, as a massive geek of the OG Star Wars franchise I ABSOLUTELY AGREE 100%!! The original trilogy really set the standard in terms of practical effects over special effects. If you compare it to say, the original Star Trek, which was only released 10 years before Star Wars & was heavier on the special effects, you can see the comparison of how well they aged. For the time Star Trek aired, the effects were decent, but bringing it back to watch it on HD TVs, the lack of quality is very glaring. Star Wars being heavy on Practical Effects has led the original trilogy to age WAY better than even the reboot series. Bringing this around full circle, this is why BTS MVs are so high quality and will age well with the development of technology because they predominantly use practical effects and interactive sets. If you want to see a really cool live that has some pretty great practical effects & magical camera tricks, check out their live, Home on Jimmy Fallon - it’s fun & impressive as hell👌I decided to edit when I saw the feels hit 29:14 - this is what they do. They touch on human psyche, the way they express their art is emotional. It may hit at a different time, with a different song with a different message but one thing we have in common as ARMY is that we’ve all been emotionally touched by something they have created. Whether it’s a theme of an MV, a specific line in a song or a speech, all 7 of these men have a natural ability to bring out hidden emotions unexpectedly. When you get to know their personalities, and you really should, you will discover the depth of their humanity, heart and love for not only each other, but all those who support them and all those willing to come out of their comfort zone to give them a chance. I’ve been moved to tears on so many occasions delving into their music, I’ve seen others moved to tears. Another thing you’ll learn is not only will THEY be there for you when things are rough, we, ARMY are there too. We’ve got a world to heal and it ain’t gonna happen with people at odds.

Trust me many of us BTS ARMY have cried to the beauty of this video which is why why it is still a fave of ours. RM as well as the members said that this video was based off the book Demian. They also felt like ARMY and FAME was like the Sun. No matter how close you fly towards it or how high you get your wings can be singed away at any moment the closer you get. There is an explanation video to the symbolism within this MV on the XCeleste YT channel however, your interpretation did hit some points. In a recent interview RM said "My Life is like a Canvas." Everyone sees the painting within the frame but meant never see the blood, sweat, and tears that go into it to produce it's eternal beauty. However, art should not just be held within a boxed frame. It is a beauty that holds many colors, yet can be seen in the light and shadows. Showing the beauty within the darkness or sun light.
THANK YOU for your genuine reaction and giving BTS a listen with an open mind.
There is a saying in the BTS ARMY, “BTS shows up when you need them most.” I believe that GOD put them in your path for a reason. Good Luck and enjoy the journey of getting to know BTS, what they stand for as a group, and each member individually. They are truly genuinely worth knowing.

When you said that BTS are ARTISTS I literally yelled “YES, THANKYOU!” 💜💜 as ARMY we try to convey this to people but a lot of ppl don’t listen due to preconceived ideas, and it can be frustrating, because it’s simply an experience you have to have, not something that can be told to you. So it gives me such an intense sense of.. relief? That’s the best way I can describe it, when someone sees that about them. So Thankyou.
Also your reaction was beautiful, and while there are a lot of explanations and so forth, I firmly believe because bts are artists they want nothing more than for us to experience to experience their art in the most meaningful way to us, and that that is the correct way, for you. And that whatever their initial reasons for creating the piece and the meanings behind it that those are just as valid as whatever moved you and conclusions made you feel important emotions. So you can totally just bask in that for as long as you need to before moving on to learn their intentions 💜 but the significance of the art pieces and everything throughout is fascinating! That whole scene with the blindfold as a leash also absolutely blew my mind the first time I saw it and really moved me. This MV changed something in me tbh 😅🌹✨

Thank you so much for the reaction! The raw emotion you showed was touching and made me tear up in turn. You're absolutely right, there's art that is thought provoking and some that are emotion evoking, and BTS can do both. Thank you for showing true love for our boys.
Here's a little more information into the song! You got a lot of it right!
Blood Sweat and Tears video and song were built and written based on Demian, a novel by Hermann Hesse which won a Nobel prize in literature back in 1946. I read this book (because of this Mv) and I'll try my best to interpret and summarise the story here.

Jin represents Sinclair in this scenario. The white and black doors represent the world of light and the real world. Suga playing piano represents Pistorius who was an organ player in the story. The Bangtan Universe (alternative universe storyline), Demian, the emotional transition to adulthood, challenging binary thinking to accept yourself. Choi Yong Seok is the mv director and the design and production of the mvs he does with BTS are so detailed. But it's all to tell stories about the human experience.

As a music educator (not currently teaching but a musician and artist forever at heart), this reaction brought tears to my eyes. You two are some of the only reactors I have ever seen that “get” them right off the bat. BTS are honest-to-God artists, and to see how emotional this MV made you was something to which I related very much. Some songs of theirs I think you might enjoy reacting to are Film Out, Spring Day, and Blue & Grey. They have a vast catalog, as I am sure others have mentioned, so you really can’t go wrong with anything you choose! I look forward to sharing in your journey of love and healing that BTS and ARMY bring! Best wishes and borahae! 💜

I have watched this MV hundreds of times and the part Jin kissing the statue always makes me hold my breath then gasp for air after (always have that affect on me). I love your reaction . Subscribing!!!! 💜💜💜

The moment you find a BTS song/video that leaves you in tears is when it's truly game over for you. Congratulations! You have connected to them as artists and there's only more where that came from. The more you explore their art, the more you learn about them as people, the more meaningful all the songs become. Even something you have listened to early on and didn't care for too much can all of a sudden have a newfound impact once you have some more context of where it came from.
I enjoyed your reaction so much and I even started crying with you. You both are so insightful and experience art in a very emotional way. I think you two and ARMY are gonna have a great time going down the rabbit hole with you.
I though about what to recommend to you next and there's just so much to choose from. Spring Day is a MASSIVE song, it came out in 2017 and has NEVER left korean music charts till this day. It's a very meaningful song to koreans and you would probably need to watch some explanation videos for the MV to fully understand why (bring some tissues if you do). If you want a more cheerful song, check IDOL (there are explanation videos for it too) and if you want something COMPLETELY different then perhaps Ugh (+ explanation video by DKDKTV, trust me you'll need it for this one). Thank you for your videos💜

Wow!! I am blown away by your reaction and your analysis and breakdown. Just stumbled upon this video and loved it. Your comment about a human being yin and yan, masculine and feminine is so accurate. We are composed of both and one is more predominant in most people. To find that balance of both is such a unique feat. Can’t wait to see more BTS reactions from you guys. Thank you! And, you are going to adore RM/Namjoon. He is the art connoisseur in the group and his lyrics are to die for.
And this is based on the book Damian by Christian Hessman. So it’s art through and through.

Thank you! It's so fun to see how some people appreciate our comparisons and others are almost offended by them. To quote my favorite lines from the new movie The Whale, "People are incapable of not caring. People are amazing."

BTS have a way of evoking feelings from you that you wouldn't think you'd feel for music and that's why ppl love them.
Speaking of art, the leader RM (kim namjoon) who is also their main lyricist (they all write lyrics to their songs btw) is an AVID art lover ... he's always going to museums and reading about art.
I recommend watching ON (Kinetic manifesto film) to change it up a bit .. so you'll see more of their brilliant choreography 💜

Blood Sweat & Tears effect it is. It does things which are inexplicable. It's been more than 6 years now and this piece of art is unparalleled and still unbelievable. No one can reach this level of artistry, even BTS themselves can't do it again. I've been in love with this song since day one and nothing even comes close. You closely encapsulated what I feel for this masterpiece.

You’re surprised but we’re not. BTS are true artists who will constantly pull unexpected reactions from you. They also have a way of tilting your world view, challenging your thoughts and providing comfort. They’re also fun and entertaining. For recommendations I’d say I Need U (original version), Run and Spring Day but I’d also suggest starting with their first - No More Dream. They’ve been producing meaningful lyrics since the beginning. You can also see their growth as humans and artists.

Me too, me too. Seriously. When I first started looking into BTS, I really thought I was just humoring the people that recommended them to me & fully expected that I'd never connect with them in a real way. OH BOY was I wrong. I can't exactly explain it, but something about how these guys portray these extremely difficult processes in understanding life, existence, the self, all of it, has helped me in ways that little else has. I'm grateful I gave them a chance, I really really am.

I find it a bit hard to decide what to recommend next. But I think you would really appreciate RM‘s beautiful solo album Indigo, which he released in December. There is a Tiny Desk performance by him where he performs three songs, two of them from the new album. He explains the ideas behind the songs in detail, which I think you might enjoy. It’s a very stripped-down performance. The BTS Tiny Desk concert is also a great recommendation for a first live experience. I’m looking forward to seeing some more of your BTS journey.

I'd recommend the live RM solo concert in Seoul - it has almost all the songs from the album as well as a few extras, and many of the featured artists also appear - truly magical. The channel Enjoy BTS More has the full concert with English subs. And there are really excellent MVs for the songs Wildflower and Still Life.
And then there's J-Hope's solo album Jack in the Box, his live at Lollapalooza (again Enjoy BTS More has the concert with subs as well as the afterwards live with J-Hope and Jimin) and the MVs More and Arson . . .
I could go on and on but will spare you!

YOOOO you both nailed it on the head. I truly believe that if you dive deep into BTS music esp. the lyrics you'll love it. They talk so much about the self. Their Map of the Soul albums is based off of Swiss Psychiatrist Carl Jung's books.

This MV is for the main song of their conceptual album “WINGS” (you’ll learn than most BTS albums are conceptual).
This album was promoted with 7 album trailers/teasers (one for each member) and also there’s a music video for the intro of the album that broadens the same themes called “Boy Meets Evil”
I recommend you watch all these complementary videos. It’s very interesting

Rule of thumb with BTS: If it can be built IRL they probably did it. They do use green screen and CGI but they keep it to an absolute minimum. I think you'd really appreciate the short making of-videos they put out of all their mvs.
As a contrast to Blood, Sweat and Tears I would love to recommend Save Me. The mv is a completely stripped back one-shot video shot in a thunderstorm. It really becomes engenious when you add it's sister song I'm Fine. They're connected not only through an ambigram (reads differently when turned upside down, shown in Fake Love) but the predominant tones are the same but reversed, the lines in RM's verse correspond if read from the top in SM and the bottom in IF, the order of the rap line is reversed, the choreography changes from individual to interactive when performed together and so on. It's pure genius!
Love you guys' energy and understanding that these guys are artists first and foremost.
    -a danish ARMY, age 46 💜
