As a worship leader of a church who is using a cell phone to live stream, I've been looking for a video that gave good insight on how to go live in more professional manner. This was the only video I could find that explained in detail about how to connect it all together with good information for each step. Top notch video, my brother. Liked and subscribed! Oh, and great song at the end!
Joshua, I haven't been monitoring this channel much so I just saw this comment. Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time let me know this helped! I'm so glad It was useful. God bless!
Tbh if you need to shrink equipment you can skip the focusrite scarlet and take the "main output" or "control room" output from soundboard and plug it in directly to pc into "line in" or "mic in" or if you don't need all those fancy filters equalizers and compressors given by the soundboard, you are using only one microphone for yourself then audio interface like the focusrite it enough 🖐🏻🙂 cheers
Eric thank you very much, my name is Michael and I am a pastor, I am using my wife’s iPad lol, I have searched for a long time and have not found what I was looking for UNTIL NOW. All other ones were about 1 mike one camera. You have made my day.. blessings
Yup good advice for small churches with little money to spend also I’m realizing if you don’t have much of a monitor setup and can free up a monitor mix you could send a monitor mix to your livestream and then you can mix a separate mix for the live stream.. Im so glad I found this. I have a lot of family members running minimal setups and the more expensive options I’m used to definitely are too much for them
I don't have much to say , May God Bless You, no-one knows how I'm feeling now after watching this video, it's gon make a huge difference in my church God Bless
ERIC! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I am about to return to service after three years of live streaming in a stationary location and this video is just what I was looking for on how to hook everything up for a small church. I am so glad you went into detail about the analog board because that was the piece I really needed. I will be the only one doing AV so this was so helpful! Thank you for taking me step-by-step through the process so I can do it with confidence!
Bro, this video is I dare say the best video I've ever watched about how to set up the sound system for live streaming. God bless you bro! This is brilliant ! Was watching you from Gabon (Central Africa).
Want to ask you a question about the special webcam you recommended us for the live video, I know this is not the best one but because its price is a kind of friendly we can easily enjoy good services from that...but my question is, during the live service, can you make a zoom on the preacher for example, meanwhile you are using OBS..?? How do you do this? Or does the camera have any remote control? How do you perform this?
Thanks so much bro! Finding this video was a blessing because you have the exact same make of the analog soundboard we have. I purchased the audio interface and cables you recommended and everything works great! This paired with the visual quality of our black magic camera is amazing!
Thank you for this video. I am the "A/V" guy at my little church in the South. Our setup is much the same as yours; a few differences in equipment. We learned how to make sounds and light come together by a lot of trial, (much) error, and a whole lot of guesswork. But it all did come together, and that's the point. So thank you for your video, it validates that what we did not only works, but why it works, in language that is straight up and to the point and stays away from the excesses that other church video basic setups seem to go towards. Keep on sharing!
Hi great video and thanks for sharing, I also do sound for my Church and live streaming, but instead of coming out of the main mix i use an AUX channel which allows me to do a separate mix for the streaming. That way i can make any adjustments on the main mix and not affect my live stream mix. Just thought to share that but everyone has they own preference. Keep up the good work all to the glory of God.
Yes, this is an awesome technique and definitely gets better results. Our church is tiny and we don't yet have anyone with the skill/desire to manage a separate mix. One day! Thanks for commenting. God Bless!
I am so happy right now coz you covered every single thing except the last part i.e. the live stream. You compiled a dozen TH-cam videos into one. Hats off to you man.
Thank you so much for sharing this package with all of us. Last week was out first week in our building and the first time we were trying "hybrid" worship. The audio and video was not very good. I scrolled to TH-cam for options and came across this video. I immediately ordered and went back into the building to set up and test and everything worked perfectly! Thanks so much!!
If u can spare a monitor line out from mixer console, we use an aux out for live stream and therefore won’t interfere with adjustment to the main fader/volume control made for folks in the sanctuary
You my good man, are a lifesaver. I've been going on YT for WEEKS looking for this! What's ironic is how your setup is exactly like mine, the issue for me was the sound not coming out and I always had to use the alternative of using the aux sends (which isn't a good a option, trust me) thank you man, God Bless!
Why isn't using aux sends for the audio in Zoom a good option? We have exactly the same Mackie mixer and using the aux sends allows me the flexible of altering the audio levels separately from those that go thru the main mix faders. The live ambient audio is very different from the audio used on Zoom.
Great video man. Just getting our small church going. You have a similar set up that we are going to be having. What a huge help to see. Especially the sound section ! Much thanks 🙌.
Eric, you saved my life! This is exactly what I needed to do at my church. I am not a sound engineer but this video is perfect. Thank you so much for posting this on TH-cam. God bless you.
Finding this video was a blessing. We have the exact same make and model analog soundboard. We have been trying to figure out how to get audio to our PC. THANK YOU!!!!
@@jamesj1523 Great question, we use that same PC for music playback before/after service. Audio interfaces take over all sound duties when you plug them in. So the Focusrite is outputting the music and sending it to the soundboard.
@@EricMakingWaves The way I understood it was the mic/stage audio was outputting to the Focusrite and then usb'd to the laptop (I got this part). (The part I am fuzzy on) In addition the pc is not just listening via the usb, its also sending sound back to the Focusrite and then from there it does back to the sound board? - I have this right?
This is a very practical guide to live streaming for beginners like me who may intend to get super fancy in the future, but for now need a way to get started. Very practical; very accessible; everything that's important put into perspective in just a few minutes. Thank you for this, & God bless from England.
Gerry, sorry for this incredibly late reply! I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to leave this comment. It means a lot to me and I'm really happy you got what you needed here.
you do have 2 separate ways to run 2 boards, the analogue with speakers out in the church and all the software on the laptop is a separate sound so the monitor out of the scarlet is your secondary audio sound to monitor the online sound which you can change in obs eq and filters..
Best explanation I have found! My pastor just asked me to get our church set up to live stream on TH-cam. I do lives for my channel at home but wasn’t sure what we needed for the church.😢
OMG. I have been looking at all kinds of videos on how to connect a Behrenger UMC202HD to an analog mixer to stream live through OBS for my church. Thank you so much.
Excellent tutorial! I've been trying to figure out how to mix my webcam with the output from my audio mixer for 6 months -- no fun. This video solved my problem!
this was extremely helpful. Ive been in IT for years but very new to AV. My church has a small budget and other priorites. So the AV side has to work with what we got or like you said a shoe stirng budget. I am going to take what i learned here and see if i can make my church livstream audio sound better. Thanks Eric!
Very informative. I see that you have a pair of TRS cables that run from the board to the front of the Focusrite. What do the TRS cables connected behind the Focusrite connect to?
Great question! We use the laptop to play music from Spotify before/after service. The Focusrite operates as the sound card for the computer. So the music plays "through the Focusrite" and the outputs on the back are routed to a stereo channel on the soundboard. It's a nice solution really. I might have to do another short video on that. Thanks for stopping by!
@@EricMakingWaves this sounds similar to what I'm doing except the music is output from laptop phone jack into mixer channel then one of the main output is route to the camera mic & then the audio is captured in obs. I get feedback of music along with mic audio if a person speaks when capture mic audio in obs. So for now I can only capture media audio in obs as a music file is playing can't include a person speaking while the sound is playing...
Eric, this is the best video that I've found that ties this all in together. I am doing exactly this for our synagogue and you answered all the questions I had. Thanks and God Bless!
Thank you thank you thank you. I have finally found a video that pieces it all together without going straight to the software and not showing any connections like many other videos have. I appreciate that you took the time to go step by step and explaining the whys and giving tips as well in between. I have been racking my brain trying to get the right questions answered from the product companies I have bought my equipment from for the whole setup. Even as I have different equipment, your video gave me so much insight on the direction I need to go. You are the best and now our church can move forward with our livestream in the next couple of weeks! You rock!!!
This is the set up what i looked for! Same gear and equipment's! Really helpful bro! Thanks for sharing! Good song, at the end! God bless you and your church!
U are so easy to understand and you don’t go fast thank you for what you are doing. We r a small church and we are trying to livestream our services. I wished you showed the whole setup of how to use OBS and connecting it to camera the whole setup.
Well done. I love the fact that you are focussed on keeping the gear affordable and simple - too many churches go mad with tech and spend tons of precious money on excessive gadgetry. We have an even more basic mixer and I am currently trying to get this hooked up to our FB live broadcast direct to iphone, somewhat challenging, but hoping to get it resolved this weekend, using irig2 and appropriate cables.
I found this video when looking for advice on live streaming concerts, as Norway is now heading back into lockdown mode leaving bands unable to perform in front of a live audience. It was awesome to get the practical knowledge on how to use equipment I already own. The only investment needed is a webcam, available everywhere at a reasonable price. Thanks.
Yo Eric, this was just the setup guide I needed! I'm doing the same exact thing for my church. Getting into live streaming has opened up different realms of creativity for me and my congregation. I built my first PC dedicated for streaming and bought my first professional camera (Sony A6400). I'm glad you mentioned about having balanced audio cables from the mixer output to the Scarlett input. The current cables I have are a little noisy, so I'll definitely get some better cables to resolve that issue. Much mahalos for making this video, and God bless!
Thanks so much! This was just the right level of info and demo that I needed as someone who is completely unfamiliar with the hardware setup and OBS. We went from pre-recorded services to live streaming, and are having to learn that from scratch. The volume of tutorials on TH-cam and fanciness of potential setups has been intimidating. You nailed it for this newbie! Thanks again.
Sure appreciate the way you explained things "KISS" principle. Also I notice you seem to log on to "APOD" for your computer wall-paper. Nice! God bless you!
Excellent job. I use my Focusrite at home for Zoom already, so my only step would be to plug into the mixer at church. Thank you for this. Coming from my macbook only has presented a lot of sound quality challenges and I believe this will solve them.
GREAT! I just came across your video. I have done close to what you set up myself at our church. Without using the sound board input. Our church has 2 different older sound boards - one for the music and one for the podium and alter microphones. (all needs work I also didn't know about the Focusrite audio box) For each sound boards are a set of 2 speakers. Our church is larger size room (2.5 to 3 times larger then yours from what I saw). I have a usb microphone over the music speaker and one over the alter/podium speaker. I also now have 4 webcams to capture video from different angels. All feed into a computer using OBS. We had nothing to start with when this all started. Again thanks for your video!
Thank you so much eric. This video is exactly what i needed. We also have drums. And a sound system to play a track when a solo is being sung. How will that work?
Quick question man. What do i put for the output in the back do I leave it with. nothing connected or would I need the same wires as you put in the front.
We use that same computer to play music before services. So the cables coming out of the back are actually sending audio back to the sound board. Hopefully that answer your question, sorry for the slow reply!
This has been extremely helpful. I have a podcast and want to change the overall quality… so I’ve been thinking about getting an audio interface but the main issue was live-streaming the whole thing. I also got a gig to livestream Dj sets at a local club, so this is very helpful. Just need to go buy everything now 😭
Hey Eric! I just found your video here. Nice work! :) I live stream from my home studio using OBS, and I'm trying to see if I can send the audio from my MacBook (where I'm playing Worship Essentials in MainStage) to my PC. It's helpful to see the whole process and I appreciate your attention to detail, while staying easygoing and keeping it simple! (Also, hearing "Come And Let Your Presence" reminded me of visiting IHOP in Kansas City years ago. Happy memories! Blessings from Seattle!
Correct, but you then have to run two entirely different mixes simultaneously. In professional settings they have two engineers--with one in a separate facility to create a broadcast mix. An aux mix is very difficult to maintain for one person with a set of headphones and musicians on stage to manage.
Yhoo! This guy is magic👌👌👌 you really know how to take us through this step without complications of tech words. This was super detailed man, I really enjoy watching and learning from this video. I actually liked and subscribed on the first two minutes because I could already hear that this is exactly what I'm looking for. Thumbs up👍👍👍
Thank you for explaining this so aptly. My question is about onscreen words of a song. Usually for normal every day meetings online I can do "share screen' then go into presentation mode on canva or PowerPoint. But I do not understand know how to do it foe the setup in a church so thw people sitting in the live audience see the words of the song on the monitors. I vet ita simple but I just haven't wrap my head around it. Help. Thank you
Hey Eric, this has really been helpful! Do you have an idea on how to create two separate mix for the church live sound and for streaming sound without having to break a buck? Thank you in advance.
Great video. I do have one question. The ¼ in cables coming out of the Focusrite, where are they going? I know that usb goes to the laptop and the cables in come from the board, but where are the out cables going?
Thank you again. Finished watching it. So we need a Audio interface device. The audio is super clear from the mic to the soundboard and digital audio. Praise GOD! We are in the right direction. Any tips how to add MS Powerpoint slides to OBS without exporting those slides into OBS?
If you don't want an interface you can use an RCA to 3.5mm cable and plug it into your PC/laptop. You can use the Built-in Gain Controller from tge sound input settings or any kind of software. Works great. God Bless
Hello Eric, I noticed on your 2i2 that you do have another set of TRS/jack on the rear of the Focusrite. Could you pls touch on why you had it there. We are using basically the same model of production in our church and a little insight would help greatly. We r using the Yamaha MGP32
Great vid, thnx! I don't recall you mentioning the cord you used to connect the sound from the Audio interface to the laptop/desktop and I don't see it linked in the description. Ps nice singing and playing!
Great tutorial. I'm wondering what the advantage of using obs is for a zoom service? Could I go straight to zoom by selecting usb codec or what ever interface one is using, in the mic input of zoom, basically skip the obs?
Best Tutorial i've been seacrching for a year set up like this a big thanks eric !!! Please do a video of full band live Service.. i wish it works well on Zoom Meeting as well as we dont stream on youtube
Hello you were saying around 4:15 that there is a splitter that makes it possible to split the sound to speakers and digital output if our mixer does not have extra Quarter inch main out ports. Do you know a link I could use to buy the splitter I need?
I REALIZE THIS IS AN OLD VIDEO, but the info is still valuable! This is a cool tutorial, however, regarding your use of a SECOND mains out. Why not use XLR mains for the church (as is) and use the AUX SEND to the live stream feed? This way you can adjust each feed with whatever you need to get a great sound in house and online! That Mackie has great abilities! Just think of it as your live feed is your house monitors. Two separate mixes! God bless.
Great question! I explained a little bit about this in the video; having a second mix requires a lot more man-power. In professional environments the second mix is sent to another sound board, in an acoustically separate room, with a separate engineer who's tailoring that mix for broadcast. When you only have one sound person in an average church, they can't possibly maintain two separate mixes simultaneously. Important moves like faders and mutes will now need to be replicated for the second mix--all while only having a pair of headphones as a quick reference. What usually happens is the broadcast mix gets neglected entirely and winds up sounding significantly worse than a duplicate of the in-house mix.
@@EricMakingWaves thanks for the explaination. I still dont quite get it, but i trust your word on it since youre doing it and im not! We went from pre-recorded services to live streaming, and are having to learn that from scratch. The volume of tutorials on TH-cam and fanciness of potential setups has been intimidating. You nailed it for this newbie! Thanks again.
You could send to busses and send those to aux out to your stream so you can adjust audio in house and stream seperatly
This has been very helpful. Thank you so much. I hope there are more videos regarding church audios, mixers and stuff.
Sweet, sharp and simple. Awesome!
thanks very much for creating and uploading
Sure appreciate the way you explained things "KISS" principle. Also I notice you seem to log on to "APOD" for your computer wall-paper. Nice! God bless you!
Great video bless you Thank you. Question: f you have a mixer with USB connection so you still benefit from using the Scarlett audio interface?
Very helpful video, man! liked the song at the end as well.
Hey thanks! It means a lot to hear that. Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
Thank you for such a straightforward and useful guide! Perfect for us right now.
Finally I found this video after a million search. Thank youu!!!!
Thank you so much eric. This video is exactly what i needed. We also have drums. And a sound system to play a track when a solo is being sung. How will that work?
Thank you brother for the helpful video. I was wondering what was the distance between the webcam and the church stage/pulpit area?
Quick question man. What do i put for the output in the back do I leave it with. nothing connected or would I need the same wires as you put in the front.
We use that same computer to play music before services. So the cables coming out of the back are actually sending audio back to the sound board. Hopefully that answer your question, sorry for the slow reply!
Hallelujah! GOD Bless you brother in Christ!
If you use your AUX send you can control each channel individually to create a custom mix for your live stream without affecting your house mix
Correct, but you then have to run two entirely different mixes simultaneously. In professional settings they have two engineers--with one in a separate facility to create a broadcast mix. An aux mix is very difficult to maintain for one person with a set of headphones and musicians on stage to manage.
I agree, The aux sends let’s you create a separate mix, there’s no need for an additional board to create a separate mix for the stream.
I have looked at so many videos and I thank you for making this easy to understand and entertaining! Great song too🎶🕊️👏🙏
Absolutely brilliant ! Just the thing. Very well presented thank you
Watched heaps of tutorials and This is EXACTLY what i needed. Thank you so much. Subscribed
Help. Thank you
Thank you this was so easy and clear.
Hey Eric, this has really been helpful! Do you have an idea on how to create two separate mix for the church live sound and for streaming sound without having to break a buck? Thank you in advance.
Thank you. I believe our new church has the same set up. 😎👍
Thank you so much for the detailed and easy to understand explanation of all the components.
You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by :)
Bless your ministry 🙏🏻
Thanks Bob!
Great video. I do have one question. The ¼ in cables coming out of the Focusrite, where are they going? I know that usb goes to the laptop and the cables in come from the board, but where are the out cables going?
Thank Eric for this amazing video. Today We going to try it this webcam. Blessings Brother.
Thank you again. Finished watching it. So we need a Audio interface device. The audio is super clear from the mic to the soundboard and digital audio.
Praise GOD! We are in the right direction. Any tips how to add MS Powerpoint slides to OBS without exporting those slides into OBS?
You can also use an (AUX) or monitor send (if you have a free one) to your Focusrite. That's what we do. ;)
Great video and easy to follow! Any tips on how the people on the livestream will be able to hear the organ and drums ?
A fantastic help! Thank you
This is exactly what we need! Thank you so much. Really thank you. May God bless you more!
I'm glad I could help! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
Thanks so much. I never heard of a stage box until you mentioned it. Thanks Again
Glad I could help!
Good work Eric. This video helped a lot. God bless you abundantly...
Great video great demonstration. i previously watched a more complicated video then i saw yours and you simplified everything thanks.
I just want to say a big thanks bro, more grace
Excellent, easy to understand, worthwhile and resourceful. Thank you for given this information
I was really getting into the worship at the end tbh.. 🔥 God is good!
lol that's awesome! This is actually the coolest comment I've had on this video.
Great tutorial. I'm wondering what the advantage of using obs is for a zoom service? Could I go straight to zoom by selecting usb codec or what ever interface one is using, in the mic input of zoom, basically skip the obs?
This is seriously amazing!! Thanks so much. Great help for our hybrid service setup
Thanks for this video very helpful.
This was a GREAT overview & very helpful, thanks... about to deploy at one of our small campuses. - thx.
Best Tutorial i've been seacrching for a year set up like this a big thanks eric !!! Please do a video of full band live Service.. i wish it works well on Zoom Meeting as well as we dont stream on youtube
Thank you for the help, concise video! I just purchased a Focusrite based on your helpful info. Thanks for the links too.
You're welcome Ilir! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
Hello you were saying around 4:15 that there is a splitter that makes it possible to split the sound to speakers and digital output if our mixer does not have extra Quarter inch main out ports. Do you know a link I could use to buy the splitter I need?
Check Sweetwater and type in splitter and just search type in the cable types you need.
Should find it pretty easily
I just help out some friends bands with live sound from time to time and no experience with livestream. Yet! But when i do, i'll have this video at hand! 😉
Thanks again! ✌
