Very good video as usual...we're fortunate and spoiled. My understanding is the 462 has evolved, would you consider making a video about the 462...where it started and where it is now and your thoughts on where your modifications them. Thank You!
As long as there are engines it will always come down to torque vs hp, bore vs stroke. But you can only tell what is best when you real life test. Thanks for the lesson Professor :)
Ima 461 kinda guy for a all around saw with a 25 to a 32 inch bar here in VA it handles most any size tree. Its actually my biggest saw and im fine with that.
Thanks for feed back guys I'm in the middle neither east nor west. Been running 372 with 24 inch bar. Might look into 461, higher priced but we have alot of stihl dealers around. I own a tree service, I dont log so needs might be a little different.
Sounds like a 1100.00 461 or a 372 at 780.00 is my best choice. Probably get a 372 already have 2 of them and several chains and a few bars. Been running them stock wonder what a dual port muffler will do. Thanks for showing.
Thim hi ... I “wood” lean towards the 461 before the 372xp xtra-torque ! I have both 461r and 462c , both are fine saws imho ... if you’re on the east coast bucking a lot of wood and running 20” bars the 462c is an excellent choice (esp on steroids) for larger 25-32” timber the 461r is the better choice ... I’m sure the 572xp is a fine unit also ... 6 of 1 ; 1/2 dozen of the other
Great video Jack. Is there any way that you might be able to show us how you customise the Stihl half wrap bars into full wrap bars. Would be nice to see how you bend the tubing to size and then the weld process. Stay safe.
When you make the wrap handle what type of pipe/schedule do you use? Is weldable or are you brazeing it some how which i wouldnt think would hold up on a saw.
the wrap handles are generally aluminium, not sure on schedule numbers but roughly 1/16 wall (2mm) They pretty much need to be TIG welded though there is an aluminium brazing rod, that works ok but ugly to use, MIG/stick aluminium is an option but tough or impossible on thin material.
That is really a great discussion based on reality. Thanks for putting your time intp a topic that is real and staying to giving your honest impression. To many major or minor factors to just this one or that one.
Aviator007 hi. I will use comp, semi-skip, and full skip in different strips. This is dicated by the wood type, the wood density, cutting prescription, elevation to a degree, bar length, etc. I run chisel,,, and do my best to keep the tip "outta the dirt", lol. Thanks for watching.
Interesting video. But I do have a question. In this video you say the 461 has the most torque and maybe power, but in the video where your tach gage was acting up with the 462c vs 461, you said the 462c was pulling harder than the 461. So just a little confused is all. Lol! Thanks.

Phillip hi. The first consideration would be how well your chains cut. The second thing would be the length of bar. In stock form & sporting g a 32", these saws all run/cut about the same. Compared the the 462, seems like more force can be applied the the pistol grip of the 572 without it losing too much chain speed. None of these choices are a 36" bar saw in stock form, imho anyway. If you going to be gnawing on 5' beech trees, you would be better served with one of the top tier mix oils also. Thanks for watching.

I prefer heavy duty while on the ground and I still like heavy duty in the tree but weight becomes important. Not much in tree work that I cant accomplish with my 150tc and 201tc chainsaws. For ground work I use my Echo cs500p alot sometimes my 201tc for removing limbs. I have a 661c I use for the big stuff and an older 371xp for most my logs under 40” diameter. Judging by looks alone cause my dealers are lame and rarely stock much pro stuff...the 572xp looks heavier duty built from the side cover...to the plastics used all around the saw. The 461 has heavy duty plastic as well but the 462 appears flimsier looking...maybe just looks in pictures and videos but that’s what I take from it. In and out of the truck on a regular basis this is important...when I replace my older 371 I want a saw thats reliable and currently marketed, so Im leaning towards the 572xp for longevity and being on the ground with it I can deal with the extra weight unless you have a reason to not pick that model. Also gonna ask you about the new mark 2 550s and why the weight gain if you know?
