There used to be a guy that owned a hardware store in my hometown that also sold chainsaws and splitters as well as yard equipment. He had a small wood yard out behind the store that he let people try out the saws and even compare their own saws against the new ones. You could even test the splitters. The guy was a genius. He sold a lot of saws and had people cutting and splitting his firewood for him and paying him to do it 😂 Couldn't do it nowadays because of liability though. Good comparison video 👍
The only thing I would suggest, is that you keep an eye on your oil output on the 400 with that much bar. I've read that the oiler that Stihl uses on the 400 is subpar and doesn't put out enough oil.
Hey Jeff! I haven’t had any trouble with it (knock on wood). I did turn up the oiler on it. I turn them all my saws oilers all the way up if they have adjustments. More oil = more gooder if you ask me! Thanks for the heads up. I’ll keep an eye on it!
Hey Mike, I went through a similar decision between getting a 572XP and a 562XP. I opted for the 562XP because it was almost a pound lighter and about $300 less. A 60cc class saw vs. a 70cc class saw. The right decision for me. Have a great day!
The 462 is just a newer 461 from my understanding. Since i have 2 461s. I would say the 462 did a fantastic job over the 400. I have never ran a 400.😉👍
Both saws cut good. I can’t believe it but I bought a 550 xp. I used a 395 for over 20 years. Moved to 372 couple years ago. The 550 a heck of a saw and light. I like my long bars though. That some big wood. I having hard time getting tree service wood here. They can dump it for no cost here so make little harder. Can’t beat a big saw dogged into big log. Keep up the good work.
I’ve got the 462, 28” bar. Love it. Though my 044 still runs hard too! I push the roll pin in and turned up the oiler, bark box, and run VP 40:1 fuel. The 462 is a great saw. Glad a bought it. I was thinking about the 400 but decided to step up a few CC’s.
My 400 impressed my buddy, who normally runs a 462, enough that he has one on the way. We will both have each a 400, 462 and 261. A saw for any occasion.
I love the 400 but it’s taken a back seat since getting the 462. Maybe once the newness runs out on the 462 the 400 will take the top shelf again?? Thanks for watching and commenting! 261’s are super nice!
@@KNLFirewood the 462 gets taken out when I’m cutting a 48”-50” oak like the one we are doing tomorrow. The 28” bar comes in handy with giant water oaks. Smaller jobs the 400 is perfect, big ones are not as common.
I have all three as well, not because I needed them but because I wanted them. 😁 I would say the weight difference between the 400 and 462 is a lot less than the difference in power. I might just get rid of the 400 and find myself another 462.
Both saws were ripping!! I’ve never ran either of those but the 400 sparks my interest. Seems to get a lot of good reviews!! Great video as always Mike!! And it was a pleasure talking with ya!
Honestly I don't know. The tractor is rated, I think, 2300 lbs at the pins. My back tires are filled with RimGuard (500 lbs per tire) and the loader will lift more than the tractor has counter weight. It can lift a bunch!

That’s great information, I hadn’t checked to see when they went strato in the 372. I have a ‘12 372xp and like it fine, but I do gravitate to my 272 more often. I just love the way the old girl pulls a chain!💪🏼😍 Bless’ns!

That would be cool to kick the tires on them before you bought them!
That grapple is a real back saver...I'd buy the second one you ran...doesn't bog down..
The second round was the 400. It’s a mean 67ccs! One of my favorites for sure!
There is something to be said for a sharp chain and keeping the rpms in the peak range.
That’s a fact!
Two great saws there Mike! "The Birds" movie with Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor was a classic!!
Hi Bill! Thanks! You have a 400 and 462, right?
@@KNLFirewoodYep, got the 462 first then the 400. Mostly use the 400 and the 462 is there when I need it! Twenty five days until HFH set up.

Haha! I’m sure my neighbors don’t think so! The 400 has the WCS Bark Box and the 462 has the EPS Straight Shot on it. The EPS is LOUD!!
Two of the best saws made👏🪵🇺🇸
