- Roof Wind Damage How to tarp a small spot of roofing damage, to prevent further damage inside your house. Without causing a lot of extra roof damage. Sometimes when there is only a small affected area you don't need to put a tarp across the whole roof. If it is minor roof damage, insurance companies may only approve a repair. Tarping the whole thing would cause a lot of extra unnecessary work, depending upon how you did it. This is just a guide on what you can do. Great video from a pro who knows what he is doing. Some other videos I have watched would have used s 20X20 tarp with 2x4 by 8 limber and made a mess of and entire roof for a 5 inch hole. Glade to see someone with brains. And no the rain will not get by the cap nail. Its almost like self sealing because of the plastic cap. Nice work.

What products is that, that you i.e he is using ?
I would like to see a video on cutting drip edges properly. Dont know how elaborate it can be. I am always bothered by the outside cuts that have an exposed opening when the drip edge folds. In my experience i believe thats how most of the repairs in soffit and fascia occur due to water damage. Is there a way to remedy that other that caulking the opening? Dont know if i am explaining the issue correctly.
I've always been told that drip edge shouldnt be folded around the fascia on gable ends. Cause it traps water there. Instead you just cut it flush with the fascia. I haven't seen any damage in that spot myself on roofs. But I have worked with some people that do it. You just simply cut a V notch out of the top part that lays against the roof and bend it inwards, might have to make a small slit in the bottom bend to allow it to fold properly.
How long until those cap nails start to leak and why not just use sealant

Synthetic underpayment felt actually heals itself, so once you put the nail caps with a bit of time it’ll seal unlike regular paper felt

I nice tip is to take a piece of lumber 2x2 and nail that down through the paper.
How do you mount the go pro to your hat?
I have a head Mount, it's like a headband with an adapter that holds the GoPro at the front.

Seems easier to pop 5 shingles back even if it was a temp tarp and better protection any color
it was over a 30 minute drive to the nearest place to get any kind of shingle. I had synthetic paper in the back of my truck. I did not charge this guy anyting.

amazing how many "storm" roofers will come out and absolutely destroy a roof by tarping the whole roof.. they should know better but then its more profit to "tarp" an entire roof than just the small area affected by the real damage
Then when the insurance company denies a full replacement and slopes it out, they are nowhere to be found.
@@GrandRoofingInc just had this discussion on a local thread.. told a guy about not tarping the entire roof and he was like well it has to go over the ridge....or well what am I supposed to do? weave it in under the shingles?? uh yeah.. minimize the damage

judging by the number of nails put on this patch, this is a permanent fix. Plastic can take anywhere from 20 to 500 years to decompose.
Why a hatchet instead of a hammer?
Because it's got an embedded neodymium magnet to hold the nails, so I can use my left hand to hold the shingles back.

So the hatchet part is not used?
@@techdave05 you can use the hatchet part if you want. It has a knife on it and you can set a gauge with it as well. I just use it for nails and cap nails though.

Using a roofing hatchet helps with getting step flashing out of walls too, because it's flat you're able to get underneath the flashing and pop the nail out.
Personally would love to see the mag hatchet but no one's sells it in stores, don't really want to wait for one to be shipped so I always end up getting the estwing roofing hatchet.

Why wouldn't you just buy a bundle of shingles and change them out when you're up there? what you are doing is a waste of time.
Because the nearest place to buy a bundle was 40 minutes away.

3 tab roofing is the problem. That stuff is just for capping. Home owners will never save money by buying cheep products. Year after year wind damage.
