Motorcycle Tour of The New Forest - Episode 1

- (This mini tour of The New Forest starts as most MMD tours with a stopover on the way! Episode 1 takes us to the beautiful Cathedral city of Salisbury via the iconic and enigmatic monument of Stonehenge. A really fascinating historical site and well worth spending a few hours there. When you get up close, you realise what an extraordinary achievement it was to construct it 1,000s of years ago! From Stonehenge it is just a short ride to Salisbury and its own iconic contribution to history - A magnificent Gothic cathedral with the tallest spire in the Uk and the best preserved copy of Magna Carta.
The following day, in beautiful sunshine we headed further south the the ancient ruins of Corfe Castle built in the reign of William The Conqueror, it played a key role in The English Civil War. From Corfe we headed down to Studland bay and the shortest ferry ride ever (4 minutes!) took us the the Millionaire's playground of Sandbanks (to see if we could spot Harry Redknapp) and a fascinating visit to the famous Sammy Miller's Motorcycle Museum before heading for our accommodation for the night in Milford on Sea.

Great watch again, nice to see my neck of the woods around Dorset included. You're right about that ferry crossing, you spend more time queueing than actually on it. Have to say they are amazing on that ferry though, if we have an emergency in the back of the ambulance, they'll hold it for us and get us straight across. Saves us 45 minutes of going round by road.
Sammy Millers is a great day out, if ya love ya bikes and all their history, it's a great place.

I think you should lead more. I nearly always follow the Mrs when we're out. I find I can block more of the arsehole drivers that can annoy/cause accidents.
That’s a good point. A couple of people have suggested I lead more, Gary. Strangely I feel much safer following - maybe I’ve just got used to being able to see Bri and not having to worry too much about where we’re going - particularly in areas we don’t know. I do actually lead a fair bit but typically when we’re not filming as the cameras are a faff to swap around. Thanks for watching our adventures ☺️👍

Great video, when you next visit the Purbeck area you must take look at Lulworth cove, Durdle Door and Browsea island;- on a summers day it feels almost tropical. I must do a video of all the great riding roads in the South West; it could be a long video

@@midlifemotorcyclediaries We started biking late lets say mid life! passing our DAS in September. The bikes are exactly what we wanted and living up to expectations. We are in no rush so enjoying our rides at a comfortable rate. They are capable of travelling large distances in comfort. So far no regrets

Glad i watched this one, your vlogs really are very well made, very professional, and entertaining. Your trip between Verwood and Wimborne took you within a stones throw from where my wife and i live, and probably along one of my favourite roads in our area, the road between Verwood and Wimborne takes you through Cranborne, and between Cranborne and Wimborne, the road is a fabulous biking road, with tight and sweeping bends, open stretches, and is a real fun ride. Down here in Dorset, we have some truly stunning countryside, which you have seen. You should come back and do the Jurrasic coast some time, it`s really spectacular. If you do, give us a call, i`d love to join you on the ride.

You are right, Martin, the first sight of Silbury Hill is astonishing, Avebury Stone Circle remarkable, you can walk amongst them and it is free, and the roads just beckon bikers - good shout.

You have an enormous amount of history packed into a relatively compact area, unlike in western Canada where I call home. Here, you can in some places ride for hours and see nothing more than scattered farms and ranches.
Yes we do Brian! We’re blessed with history and you’re blessed with stunning wilderness! 😀 I remember in 2010 on my Pan American tour riding for hours and hours without seeing anyone! 😀👍
First time to your channel and really enjoyed it. The south coast county of Dorset is an area I visit regularly (from rural Warwickshire) and I can highly recommend Poole Quay on a summer Tuesday as it hosts one of the best bike nights in the UK.

Used to live near Stonehenge great area nice see it and I remember when you could just go up and walk among the stones with nothing else there .Unfortunately I live in the north now but get back when I can real nice to see good one guys : )

I have fond memories of Sandbanks. I spent two summer hols in a row in my teens there looking after young kids for a family and getting paid for it! Used walk onto the chain ferry regularly over to Studland Bay and Shell Bay. The beaches over that side were lovely, although one was and I think still is nudist! 🙈 We’ve regularly ridden down to Barton and Milford on sea and Mudeford, and still not managed to visit Sammy Millars! Definitely next year! Look forward to part 2. 😊

@@midlifemotorcyclediaries I’ve just realised that it was on Sandbanks beach promenade was where I first went on a motorbike...pillioned on a the eldest son’s 125 in a summer dress and bare feet, if I recall!! 😱 It was at nigh time and probably shouldn’t have been there. Oh to be young and foolish! 😲 Thanks for bringing back those memories! 👍🏻

As someone who lives here in the heart of Dorset, it was lovely to see from an outsider's view all the local tourist attractions and scenery. Sue, just before Stone Henge you put your bike in the hatched area between the traffic, can I ask that you please don't do that too often (my old police instructor termed it Meat in the sandwich) the risk isn't worth the reward. We’ve done the Cherbourg ferry before on our way to the Normandy beaches 👍 - the 650 GS is a great bike - took me down the Pan American in 2010!😀👍
