  • 24 hours on the famous JingPeng Pass in China's Inner Mongolia in 2003/4 was an experience not to forget. The beautiful QJ class 2-10-2s made an amazing sight as they pounded their way up and over the mountain range 300 miles north of Beijing. The JiTong Railway was first opened for traffic as recently as 1995 and was entirely steam operated (with lower quadrant signals) for its first 10 years. Filmed in November 2003.

    They appeared to be beautifully maintained.

      These locos were very well maintained. This line was a newly built mainline (1996 I think) and the locos were themselves built up to 1988 so, in 2004 when this was filmed, were still relatively new.

    Thank you. Those last few years of steam on the Jitong were tremendous. I have hours of video to work through yet ... watch this space!

    Absolutely Beautiful footage. Some of the best shots I've seen of live steam anywhere. Nice job. I'm sure you were freezing and suffered for your efforts. Thanks for passing it along

      SteamerBob I agree Bob. The JiTong Railway was an amazing experience. Any enthusiast who didn't manage to get there missed out on a real treat! I was extra lucky in that I met my wife alongside the line!!

      Leider ist das jetzt schon lange vorbei - es war vor 17 Jahren. In China gibt es noch einen Dampfbetrieb. Bitte sehen Sie ----
      Sadly this is now long gone - it was 17 years ago. There is still one steam operation in China still.

      +nightlightabcd The JingPeng was the greatest steam experience since the passing of steam in the west ... and absolutely certainly the final great steam experience of the world.

    it 's beautiful ! it brought back to my old memory of my childhood. I was born in the era of steam locomotive where for the long distance transport in South East Asia, a lot of you guys here were born in the era of diesel ?

    • @AndyDandanFisherSteam
      @AndyDandanFisherSteam  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you might have the wrong name!! I spent my early years watching steam in South Yorkshire, UK and grew up loving steam power. It's decided the pattern of my life. The JingPeng Pass on the JiTong Railway was absolutely amazing when it was steam powered. Sadly, it's all diesels now. Thanks for your comment. Andy

    The JingPeng Pass certainly is glorious, or was in the day sof steam. I guess nowadays under diesel there's not much to look at. Some of these QJs are in the United States now and still putting on a spectacular show.

    The QJs were essentially the Soviet LV class locos. When steam loco production ceased in the USSR in 1956 they sold the design to the PRC.

    • @AndyDandanFisherSteam
      @AndyDandanFisherSteam  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's absolutely correct Bob. The Chinese slightly upgraded the power output, I believe, and made a few mods - such as the larger tender etc.

    Огромный прогресс!! 12 лет тому назад ещё бегали паровозы, а сейчас КНР обогнала весь мир по протяжённости высокоскоростных железнодорожных магистралей. Браво, китайцы!!!

  • @johnsamu

    Beatiful movie. I think that soon not many people in China will know how to build and maintain these magnificent machines. Like young people in the west they like to have clean high paying jobs, which is the opposite of working on steam engines.

    • @AndyDandanFisherSteam
      @AndyDandanFisherSteam  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. You're right, of course. There are still quite a number of steam locos in working order around China but they (and their operators) will gradually disappear until there are only a few shiny ones being used in the wrong circumstances ..... like in the UK !!

    • @johnsamu
      @johnsamu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So that means you don't need to go to China anymore in the future. You can look outside from your local pub to see the chinese steamtrains passing by.

    • @AndyDandanFisherSteam
      @AndyDandanFisherSteam  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sadly they've all gone now. Diesels only over the JingPeng Pass now I'm afraid.

      Andy Dandan Fisher I figured so cause I have the dvd china steam from 2001.They may gain on efficency but there is a world that they are losing in a whole life style that gose with steam. It truly makes me sad to know they are gone such fine engines that worked so powerfully and great.

      There are still 1 or 2 places in China where you can see steam working but not these fabulous 2-10-2 Class QJs

    0:30 What is with the steam locomotives in China why do they have horns instead of whistles!!!!! Horns belong on diesels not steam locomotives except for sp 4449 since its instead in the locomotive itself but still why do they have horns on their steam locomotives????????

    • @AndyDandanFisherSteam
      @AndyDandanFisherSteam  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Chinese steam locos were fitted with both air horns and a steam whistle. The use appears to be random. Take a look at this clip. It shows both being used alternately. th-cam.com/video/xPJx24HDOW0/w-d-xo.html
