hi I ordered my suzuki gsx s 1000gt in November picked it up in April done 5700 miles new tyres at 4000 i have been riding for 52 years its the best bike I have ever owned
I've had this bike for 2 months or so and it's a peach. Nice and smooth riding, and if you twist the throttle harder it will set your world on fire. Props to Suzuki for making a bike that's all about that riding pleasure without being overly fancy.
@@donalharrington6462 No passenger I'm afraid. From what I've heard, Passengers often find themselves sitting a bit high with no quite optimal grab handles.
Was thinking it wouldn't be optimal. I've a bandit and it's quite good especially with the top box on. I was thinking this would be the obvious next step.
Keep the throttle pinned when you kick up the gearbox with the QS. It is smoother that way. Downshifting, just kick it down like on a MX bike and it is really great with the slipper clutch doing its work without disturbing the stability of the bike. I have this bike and you need to ride it like you stole it!
I personally, after having rode a bike with a quick shifter, can't see the need for it. Using the quick shifter can be a tricky, unreliable process. I find using a clutch to be very smooth and natural.
@-robster-robster- A lot of people rave about having a quick shifter. I have the hayabusa, which has it up and down but I can take it or leave it. The technology that really impresses me is ABS and traction control.
I have never seen you so excited about a bike Toby !! well done!! I know you are a BMW fan as am i , might see you one one in the future, it seems a great value bike too!
Thanks for your review. I have been considering one of these to replace my very heavy BMW K1200RS, so must take one for a ride as I am not a fan of twins, preferring the smoothness of a 4 cyl. My wife rides an R9T, but I can’t adjust to it. Greetings from NZ.
I'll be getting the touring screen once it becomes available, it's taller and a bit wider. I'm 6'2", so it will suit me better. Even for Puig, it's listed as "under development" on their site. Here in the US, the GT+ model is sold without the side bags and are shipped out to dealers as they become available for dealer installation, fully keyed by VIN for each unit. Still waiting patiently after a month for delivery.
Hiya! Thanks for the comments, we both have Scorpion ADX1 helmets although Toby has just bought the ADX2 but doesn’t wear it for filming. We have had them for nearly three years and they are brilliant for a flip-up. Great wide visor and comfortable. Consider a larger size than your normal size if you get one. Check out our review on the channel. Ride safe.
Excellent video Toby. Very informative. I was considering this as a replacement for mine but the riding position is just not for me. Although the ride experience is amazing.
@@pauljoyquilter359 the riding pisition requires a small lean forward that puts a little pressure on wrists and ankles. I tend to do long tours and this wouldn't be comfortable for me.
wing mirrors need folded back when filtering as they are a perfect height and are begging to hit car and van wing mirrors ive come so close ... also remember extra width if carrying the panniers
Another great review! I was going to buy one of these but they are in short supply (none) here in the US. I noticed the closest BMW dealer had a new inbound R1250RS so I snagged that one and have been riding it for 3 months. I know it's been 5 years since your 1200RS review but can you comment on how the Suzuki compares to the RS?
One item I'm concerned about is the tiny headlights. My riding area has far too many DEER, in addition to distracted drivers... and one tiny pin-prick of light, no matter how bright, is likely to go unnoticed by either.
Looks very similar to an R1250RS riding position but with less seat room? Pillion looks perched quite high and with that screen I guess it’d benefit from an mra x flow spoiler on the screen. After owning many IL4 bikes the best IL4 tourer I had remains an FJ1100 oddly followed by an RRT fireblade which Was very comfy. The GT isn’t for me despite being a decent looking bike. For a tourer I’d prefer an RT or RS. Just gravitate to the balance and torque of a big boxer. Any IL4 I’ve owned lacked character but that Suzi would likely be bomb proof and more reliable than a beemer loner term. Great lights compared with my RS. I like the looks and styling. Lots to like about it. It would make a great second bike for me. I’ll just tell the wife, from a distance😂
A vehicle should not be relying on your phone for satnav. It should be built in. I've had nothing but trouble with BMW's implementation of this idea on the RT. I'm assuming you needed to install a Suzuki App. That software should be on the bike. RT owners' experiences seem, from comments I've read, to be very dependent on the phone they have. Expect to budget at least an extra £500 overall to afford an upgrade if you don't already have the latest and greatest. I'm curious as to whether Suzuki publish a compatibility list. If BMW can't get it right on a £20k bike, it'll be interesting to see how this pans out for this GT. So, all griping aside, I have some genuine questions: How much of a faff is it to get the phone connected at the start of each ride? Can you plot a route on the bike screen, or do you need to do that on the phone? Is there a waterproof compartment to charge the phone in?
As long as you have an iPhone, once you turn the key MySpin connects to the phone automatically and you're off. If you have an Android phone like I do, MySpin never connects, as it gets stuck trying to establish a connection via wireless LAN. My solution is I just bought a phone mount so I can run Google Maps. Other than that, I'm enjoying my bike immensely.
My android always connects. It's far from perfect tho. If the screen times out it loses connection to my spin and I find that pretty irritating. Once I get a tank bag and plug it in it should solve this but as of now I'm not even bothering to use it.

Nice one Toby, quickest colour as well, that QT8! 😜
Thank you very much for such a indepth review.
So disappointed that I didn’t get the chance to ride this… it’s on my list though.
Great review, most sports tourers have/had all these talents, but fell out favour due the adventure bike fad.

@Bland Rooker I just picked mine up Saturday. They said they had the bike for 2 months and JUST received the side bags last week. (if that helps)
One of the best reviews I’ve seen so far. May i know the brand of your helmet btw, It just suites the bike well

nice bike, sub 500lbs "wet weight" is amazing for a inline-4, 1 litre bike... ps, there is an optional 2.75 inch higher screen

Excellent review...sadly too small for me (6 3") :(
Nice. Does the lack of a IMU matter to real world riding iyho? ATVB
No. There used to be a time way back when where the IMU was in your right wrist and in between your ears.
No provision for top box and no centre stand?

It paints the same light as any other headlight I've had. Just looks different when you are looking at the bike during the day.
I don't like that there's no center stand. But I could live with it.
Think it’s £12k, or £13k for the ‘plus’… 👍

Your a million miles away with price which is around the 12k mark which makes it a lot of bike for money.

Lol no one told him what a quickshifter is.
I don't think it's £17 or £18k - closer to £12/£13k.

Great informative review as ever, thanks, would've loved your thoughts on the slipper clutch and riding modes though
Glad you liked the vid. Thanks so much for the kind words :)
