Hubby & I are second generation homeschoolers, & have been homeschooling our children from the start-since around 2009. Last year the Heavenly Father brought to life our dream that we've had for over 25 years and enabled us to begin buying a mountain homestead fixer upper, so join us in the adventures and fun here at our new homeschool/homestead! When we first got married and before children, my husband would leave a trail as he came home from work, and his dirty clothes on the bedroom and bathroom floors and leaving his empty glasses or snack plates in the living room. After about 3 months of picking all this up daily, I had had it, so, I kept the kitchen clean and swept the floors around his trails of things and washed only the clothes that ended up in the hampers (bedroom and bathroom). About 10 days after I began this, my husband came home, left his trail and went to sit down in his favorite spot in the living room, he attempted to put a glass on the end table but it was littered with about 10 glasses and he looks at me and asks “why do you DO all day? There’s dirty dishes and clothes everywhere.” Well. I stood there and said “I did the laundry, cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms, prepped dinner, swept and mopped the floors and dusted.” He looks around and says “it looks like you missed stuff or just didn’t do anything”. Uh. I respond “If you look around, it’s your glasses and plates on the table, you muddy boot prints going from the front door to the kitchen to the living room and back to the front door- though there is a chair and mat for you take them off when you come home, your jackets, work items and socks left on the furniture and floor”. Then he says “and I have no clean underwear or socks in my drawer”. Hmmm. Me: “are they IN the dirty clothes hamper? Because if they aren’t, it’s telling me they don’t require washing.” He looks at me stupefied and irritated. I then let him know with a lot of love and patience that I was not paid maid service, that I was not his mother but that I was his wife and HELPmate just as he was my husband and HELPmate, and that I would really like if he would be thoughtful about the trails of stuff and dirty dishes and dirty clothes strung from one end of the house to the other and I would be a “dutiful” wife when he became a thoughtful husband. 40+ years of marriage, 3 children, 12 grandchildren and various pets later, he takes his boots off at the door, hangs his coats up, makes sure any dishes or glasses he uses is in the sink, his dirty clothes are in the hamper and he helps with making dinner and clean up and does it without any prompting. As for our children, they had daily chores, were at my side from the get go as I made meals or baked goodies and made a lot of messes with me in the kitchen but helped me clean up after, learned how to do their own laundry at 10 years old, helped meal plan and prep and grocery shop and wrote the checks and balanced the checkbook next to me as bills needed paid and would help enter into the monthly budget sheet the totals and see the income and out go every week and they knew when they asked for an extra and we said no, they understood the money wasn’t there for it so they would ask before the next budget week if we could fit something in. Now as adults, they just automatically continued the LIFE LESSONS and money management systems that we naturally incorporated into their daily life and development. Remember sweet mama’s, we are to raise our children in the way they should go- that does not mean just in growing their faith and relationship with our Savior, but also in daily living habits of cleaning, laundry, cooking, money management and a strong work ethic and compassion for our fellow humans.

*this*. I'm still in the process, but as a mother I've been working on my children, 3 boys and 1 girl. The boys are young adult, but they're doing great! They are even working at doing their own laundry. But they put their dirty dishes by the sink, basically just clean up after themselves in every area. It would take too long to detail it. Lol! I don't feel like doing it. One of my boys even still does the dishes.
I'm still working on my girl 🥴.

Love this! I told my husband that he isn't a guest in our home and therefore needs to contribute towards keeping it clean. I set that boundary early on and he respects it. We are partners, I'm not his maid. Our marriage has mutual love and respect, and we don't take advantage of each other. We have 4 daughters and are trying to model what a healthy marriage should be, and it definitely shouldn't be a woman slaving away all day while the man just sits and relaxes.
My husband actually considers it unloving and disrespectful when men just park their butts on the couch and relax while their wives continue to work and are overwhelmed.
My husband and I take turns cooking or cook together (which I love!), all 6 of us clean (kids need to learn), and it just creates a much calmer environment. Plus, we get done faster, no one is feeling stressed out or overwhelmed, and have more time to have fun together. :)

I ended up putting an extra laundry basket on the floor where my husband always leaves a pile of clothes he says are not dirty, he won't take his shoes off and neither will his parents, I'm just teaching my kids to take their shoes off when they come in, so it won't be so hard for them to follow that simple request when they're married or even visiting another home. Removing shoes makes a huge difference in keeping the floors clean.

I'm not remotely religious, and do not follow any sort of spiritual doctrines to shape my life, but I like a lot of your content with great tips on how to get well-organized for homestead and household running. I also like the fact that you aren't out trying to put out that you are somehow “perfect” or that you never face challenges. You're human, with a full range of completely normal human emotions. There are way too many female homesteaders out there putting forth an unattainable and unhealthy image of being the perfect wife/mother/homemaker/etc and acting like any emotional response outside of forced happiness is somehow sinful or demonic. Thanks for being more realistic. Great editing, too.

I agree that it is very important to have lists, schedules, routines, having your kids know how to do chores around the house and cook and know exactly what is expected of them every day. This isn't just helpful for the day to day, but also in the emergencies and unexpected things in life. I'm a single Mom of 6 (husband and I are separated). Earlier this year I had to unexpectedly be in the hospital for a week and a half while I lost my twins (born too early). It was such a blessing that while I was at the hospital I didn't have to worry about my kids or how things were fairing at the house. I could just focus on me, my health, dealing with losing my Babies and everything at the hospital. My oldest 2 worked with their boss so that their schedules would work out so that one would be at work while the other would be at home taking care of the younger ones. Chores were done, food was always made, no one missed a meal, kids knew their school assignments to do. Things continued to move like clockwork while I was away. This also made it mentally and emotionally easier on my little ones while I was gone because it kept the feelings of chaos and panic away by having everything continue run smoothly, in control and comforting with the security of schedules staying the same.
By the way, praying for your children's jobs before they get them is wonderful! My girls had the perfect job for that time and situation with very understanding bosses!

So much spot on advice. one thing I have noticed...it is not about how MANY children you have (in regards to the floors & tidiness) it is about the lifestyle. For instance, I ONLY have 2 kids, but have the same problems with the floors. Well, I have 2 kids, a cat, a 100+lb dog, and we run a small farm with pigs, meat birds, laying hens & turkeys. I garden, can, preserve, sew, spin wool, etc..my hubby does sausage making, woodworking, mechanics....it is about our activities that drags the mess in! If I am going in & out the back door to the garden (sink is RIGHT by the door) I don't take my boots off. I'd spend all day putting shoes on & off! If my husband is in the middle of making sausage or I am canning 4 bushels of tomatoes there is going to be 'stuff' on the floor. When I watch other Christian-'homemaking'-moms-content, I get the impression that a lot of them are living a sanitized suburban life. They have manicured lawns with cute little raised beds; not 3 inches of NY State mud that they are wading thru to get to a garden that is fertilized with pig manure. They have cute little washers & dryers, not a long laundry line of clothes to bring in from outside. Their free time is devoted to steam cleaning while their kids are away at school. Many moms nowadays, make prepackaged food; little dirty prep work & hardly any clean up, & no leftovers ( I have a cousin that I was trying to help learn how to cook & told her to do xyz with leftovers & she asked, "What are leftovers?" I am not even kidding). I am bringing in eggs that have chicken poop on them. I am cutting up chickens & deer at my kitchen work table. I am wearing in clothes that were in a barn, while I mucked out stalls or fed calves & piglets. My husband is coming in with sawdust all over him. No matter how many times I sweep/vacuum, a mess is constantly 'accumulating'. That's ok. We are super, super productive people. Once I come in from doing all of that I need to hop right to homeschooling or other chores. eventually the floors get cleaned up 1x a day, but who could do more? I will say that we do not even allow the 5 second rule, tho. My hubby literally dashed across the kitchen & slapped a spoon out of his friend's hand, after he dropped it on the floor & was going to still use it🤣🤣🤣 When my husband & I lived a 'town life' & before ever having farming dreams, my house was spotless. bbbbbbuuuuutttttt, we were miserable. 🤷

YAS! The cleaning gets me because I could spend the day doing the house and by the next morning you would never know I cleaned! I raised three children with my husband and we also always had a big dog and a cat or two! My husband, and two boys are ADHD so I felt like I was herding squirrels! I had to just let go, if someone wants to pretend they are perfect or judge me for my house, it's on them. I rather enjoy my family and life than stress about "How my house looks!" Yes I clean but then I let go.

I have adhd, im a wife and mother of 3. I’ve come to the realization that nothing will get done if nothing gets done. I know what needs to get accomplished and although I feel overwhelmed a lot of the times, I just take a deep breath and start getting things done right away. Usually it only takes a few minutes and the feeling I get after it’s done is all worth it! I love a clean and tidy home. My husband is pretty messy, but with a lot of patience I’ve helped him get better with cleaning. I’ve found that notes, calendars, and other things of the sorts are much more difficult to follow because it becomes disappointing when tasks don’t get done.

The kids and I finally had to say no more. My husband piled his stuff on top of the refrigerator. I tried putting a basket there for him but things overflowed. When we opened the refrigerator things were falling on our heads as the kids and I are too short to see if something is about to fall. He had to move his pile to his closet. We have to remind him from time to time that we don’t appreciate things falling on our heads. 😂

Still watching your great video, thank you for sharing all that has worked for you! My teens complain to me that their friends moms do everything for them and they're the only ones they know that have to do chores like their own laundry, vacuuming, emptying the dishwasher, shredding, yard cleanup, washing cars, etc. I wish these parents knew what a disservice they are doing to their children and themselves taking it all on their own, I couldn't even if I wanted to and we're just a family of five.

I have learned that many modern churches are practicing against the Bibles teaching in more than 1 area. Grace does not mean we go on sinning in our life after we come to Christ. Home church, ministry within our walls, whatever you want to call it is more important to your family.

This is a great video. I love seeing what works for other large families.
I have also felt like I struggle to get it all done. We have a homestead with garden and animals, we homeschool and now that some of my kids are older we have a lot of sports commitments. Something I started doing a few months ago is assign daily helpers. It gives me a chance to spend time with my kids one on one away from the others and teach them life skills. So everyday, I have a laundry helper, a cooking helper and a garden helper. I love this for our family. It works so well. My kids are learning tons and it’s more balanced because on Sunday when I assign helper days, I can be thoughtful in my approach to make sure things are balanced. Before I did this, there were some kids who naturally gravitate to kitchen or garden and others who prefer to introvert in their rooms, but now everyone participates. We definitely still do the quick pick ups as a family, but it’s really nice to have one on one time. And I know my introverts appreciate the time with mom without navigating all the voices and sibling dynamics.

When my schedule causes me to skip my kitchen day I feel so unorganized for the rest of the week. I'm an empty nester and I still use all of the lists, planners, calendars, and routines. It's just my personality I guess. Thanks for sharing your day and I look forward to watching many more of your videos.

I love how you said, "Better instead of bitter." Awesome.
I love how you are disinfecting things. I don't have a dish washer, but I do think that it is weird when people don't clean their stoves and fridges.
I really want to be able to deep clean now that I gave birth, but I need to heal more. Your fridge is so pretty by the way. I love those vintage looking ones. When I one day get a house of my own, that is one that I hope to have.
I think that everyone has to get into a rhythm over time where they adjust to routines. My older sons wanted me to make a schedule for them, so I got them one of those white boards in their bedroom. . .that they never look at. Ugh.
I think now that I have a newborn, I am going to have to take your tip to work on dinner earlier on. I do that at times but need to do it more regularly now.
The generation before X is the baby boomer right? I never heard of them saying they don't want their kids to do chores! My parents are baby boomers and my mom had us do dishes as soon as we could (my brothers are gen X and I am xennial), vacuum, dust, and clean the bathrooms. I've been cleaning my parents' house for them since I was 10 (I go over once a week to help them since my mom has arthritis pretty badly). I used to do my one brother's laundry for him when I was 8 for a quarter a load. Anyway, I just never heard about that, unless there is a generation between boomer and X that I didn't know about.
Your home looks SOOO good and clean as you go through this! It is wonderful.
I agree that the kids need to have fun while they work. I think about Mary Poppins a lot with, "The job's a game!" so I make it so.
I have heard of the brain functions not being fully developed until 25, which makes me laugh because I got married and had my first kids by the time I was 25! haha.
Oh no, this is so long again. I just feel I could have great conversations with you for so long.
I agree about that stage after a newborn. I had forgotten what that was like and am in it again, but the first child, I remember it was a huge struggle especially. Firstborns are the toughest. I am sleep deprived now but am doing okay, but having naps during the day helps me out a bit. How old is your eldest? I am going to have to learn how to juggle this raising teens and a newborn at once now. It is going to be an adventure.
I agree about morning devotions. I like to get everything done first before I sit down to rest for a bit in between. Doing the devotions in the afternoon suits me best. My mom has always been up at 4:30 to read her Bible and pray (I wake at 5:30).
I hope people don't judge you for not going to church when you are receiving fellowship and doing church as a family. I find that to be beautiful. Church can look differently to different people. I think about the Acts church and how they met at different places and didn't have a set building to go to until really the 3rd century.
Okay I'll stop here. Have an incredible day with your family. I have been slowly catching up on back episodes of youtube subs (I watch at 2x speed, and follow it well). Keep up the great videos.

The routines and rhythms work for our family of seven as well. I pushed that for a few years and now realize it works so much better for our family. The habits that it has helped and shown is something that is life changing. We do chores charts as well. I gave my older daughter to pick out clip art for each chore, this helped so much for all of the ones that can't read. Having her do it took it off my list and help her familiarize the computer program. It was really a game changer!!! For the young preschoolers and early readers it has been fun to use them inside a dry erase folder...they choose a favorite color dry erase marker and draw a check or smiley face. lol The house plants are looking beautiful!!! I am adding as I can to the amount I have. It brings so much to the fall and winter time of the year.
About over working ourselves- totally redoing that at the moment. I have had to stop homeschooling for a little while. I am focusing on wonderful food, sleep, self care, and a good walk a several days a week all by myself. I was doing so much all night and into the early hours of the morning, it was effecting everything, I/we suffered so much. I knew that things needed to change but I didn't know how. School is very important but I had to stop and focus on the real needs of myself and my family. Its been about three weeks and I am adding things back in once a week and deciding to add the important things. I have really had to stop and pray, asking God for instruction as what is truly needed. Choosing this has blessed my family in a massive way .
I would love to see more of your food and meal ideas. My family is no long eating plant based. I have been focusing on our food for about two months learning how to cook things all over again. I also just started a sour dough starter from cultures for health, I should have that ready in a few days ready to play with that. Food is so important in my family. I have a child with autism, two with ADHD, a failure to thrive kiddo, and my self with fibromyalgia and other female issues. All that to be said... food is just so important to me and I want to learn some ways to navigate nutrition with a large family.
Your videos keep getting better and better.

Amen. This was such a blessing and joy to watch. I found it refreshing and encouraging to hear your insights. I am working on being a better Titus 2 woman - it's a struggle I wasn't raised to do this so I am sort of learning it now - a bit late but better than never I reckon. Much of what you said resonated with me - devotionals at the time when I'm actually able to rest in and truly focus on God's word for example (also afternoon for me - mornings feel too busy, so many things need my attention at once) and we also do not attend church haven't for years. We do at home family church and sometimes are blessed to meet up with other like minded believers for fellowship and worship either in our homes or public places like parks. When explaining why we do this once I was drawn to when Paul was fixing to go on one of his journeys and they had a dinner the night before he left sort of like a send off and he starts preaching impromptu at it and goes so long a kid falls out the window cause he fell asleep. Aside from the kid being brought back from death it shows us that "church" as it's thought of today is not what the early church did. They were the church - it was part of their everyday lives. That really helped me to understand that it is okay to do things how we feel led rather than what others do. It is our conviction based on God's word that it is better to live life being the church rather than going to church. Thank you again for the video - I am so glad it popped up in my feed this morning just when I needed to hear it. Grace and peace.

I'm feeling like life is difficult right now, which is why I asked about your most difficult season of life and how you coped/or are coping with it. I love all of your little cards and how you set things up to be functional. I wish I could do this, I thrive on order, and when I get systems in place for the home, very few in the family follow them. I wholeheartedly agree with you about out of home church. Once you can lose religion and really focus on seasons in life and realize that some seasons are for finding what works for you family. We all live with enough guilt as moms as it is. My extended family is notorious for making me feel guilty about not going to church. We have several neurodiverse within our home and there was substantial church hurt due to that. We chose to home church for now to offer some protection to the children that were being bullied and also had overwhelm surrounding the thought of church. Idk I just really appreciate your authenticity regarding that.

One of my children has ADHD tendencies (currently in the process of being professionally evaluated) anyway, I would have the hardest time getting her to first get her socks and then her shoes. She’d go to her room for the socks and become distracted by toys or sometimes her sister. Just recently I put a basket of socks in the front coat closet that has the kids shoes and it’s helped so much. I feel silly that it took me so long to think of that. Maybe this tip can help someone else out with easily distracted kiddos.

I loved this video! I am finally finding my footing in this home making/stay at home mom business after 6 months. I have been working since I was 17 and I’m 41, so this shift was a rough transition until I learned to surrender to the Lord & His plan. This was very encouraging! Thank you!

The first video I watched on your channel was The Art of Godly Homemaking and this is the second video that I've watched of yours and I'm so impressed and amazed. My boyfriend and I have been growing our faith so I was intrigued by how Godly Homemaking worked. I love your insight on the topics you talked about in your video and you are highly intelligent. I know you had to learn from trial and error and over years of experience which I know is a lot of hard work and I'm happy you can share your experiences and what you've learned. Your tips are definitely helping me out.

I’d love to see how you prep after a big grocery haul.. I’m young and still learning. I’m pregnant with our third and would love to learn how to make cooking easier 😊

The smaller ones are ruggables and so they go in the washer, but the big ones I use a carpet cleaner on! I have a large carpet/upholstery cleaner. It's a must when you have little kids!

How crazy, I was just telling my husband that the kids start to get needy or fussy starting at 5pm! It makes it so hard to get dinner on the table and pick up the house.

Being the church, is more important than going to church. Church is just a community that will always be there to welcome you

Shayla, you're quite inspiring, thank you. Have you found any way to clean wood cabinets layered with grime and grease and dust. The sticky surfaces are very annoying and unclean. Thx!

Hello Tisa, thank you too! Yes, I have used this stuff before to clean mine. It's been a long time, I don't know if they changed it or if it will work on yours. It might strip the paint off too though. I found that if wood cabinets have that grime that won't clean off the finish is usually already destroyed though. You might test it on a small area first! Hope this helps!

I can feel for sweet Emma. Raising a son with adhd. Trying to raise a good man a future husband and father/daddy. What a sweet momma reaching out for advice. Thanks for sharing pretty lady this video was beautiful and so great! Loved the opening song too what a sweet beginning! Your kitchen is my dream kitchen literally how i in-vision! I wanted to see if it’s possible to add to questions. I have always struggled with having friends nearby. I have three really close and dear friends but they are all out of state. How do you fill this gap? I usually lean more on my husband as my bestie than anyone else. Sometimes I really want that in person friendship but finding it so hard to have the same values and priorities 😢. Or when I do make a connection friend something just is not right and led to end the friendship after a few red flags that God points out that is a deal breaker. Like having friends that choose to go out to bars without spouses. Being a bit more sneaky etc. they don’t line up but after time invested it becomes a little heart break. I have up making friends here after we moved two years ago. Was thinking this was just the season I am in and I am ok with that. Then I see how others are and yearn to have the in person girlfriend (friendship)

Hello Mzfit Mama, thank you for commenting! So nice to hear from you again! The friend's situation is difficult. I had a very small handful of good friends when we lived in the Midwest, but I rarely got to see them, and overall, my experience there for many, many years was like yours. It was hard. Eventually I started praying for God to bring me true, good friends and He did!
But now I'm in my hometown and state, and have reconnected with friends that I've had for over 30 and 40 years, plus some and my friends basket is overflowing! So He truly did hear my prayers and grant them! I have the good best friends from the Midwest still too.
Something I want to tell you though, is that it might not look like it now, but your very best tribe is actually in a place right now you might not expect. It's hard to see because it's small right now, just budding. It's your family! As my kids get older all the prayers, the hard work, the lessons, everything starts bearing fruit, and my husband and kids are now my best friends and who I cannot get enough fun times with! I have some older friends who are a few years ahead of me and the same goes for them! Although us women have such a wonderful time and COULD get together more, we are having such a wonderful time with our kids and family and all the wonderful fruits that homeschooling and raising them in Christ has produced that we pick to hang out with them more often than not.
I hope this encourages you! Blessings to you, and don't forget, PRAY for your heart's desires, be it faithful, Godly friends, Godly children, and whatever good and Godly thing God places on your heart He will fulfill!

Hi! This was a wonderful video. Thank you so much for all you are sharing. What is the big knit cover you have over your water it looks like? I'm so curious.
Tomorrow for me is Monday. I'm going to begin putting into use most of your advice.
    Have a beautiful week.

Church is not a building but the body of Christ. You are 100% correct do church at home with your husband. Some people get so busy going to church they no longer have relationship with God...just an outside check in the box kind of thing. Gather with other families who believe the similar to what you believe and there's your fellowship. Shalom ❤

I feel you. "church" is not a restful item for me right now, it eats up my entire morning with hustling, busy, tasks and fuss. That's not Sabbath. I don't mind engaging with the church body at other times during the week, but not on our rest day, it's not serving us as a practice of rest right now.

I didnt know majority of men do these things with being messy and the food ...not eating or eating junk or spending a bunch of money to buy FAST food.
    I learned so much today.
Ill be searching your videos but i wonder if u share your homestead food recipes. I grow a nice size garden but we dont have animals...yet 😏

I will personally never understand how a person can just not go and find stuff in the kitchen to eat. Seriously. If I am hungry I stop whatever I am doing and go find something to eat. My husband is like yours too, I just don't get it. But I try to make food for him as often as I can, I am trying to manage my time better too. I am not a touchy person, I don't care for hugging and snuggling, but it is important for him to do this, so I have to manage my time to spend time "doing nothing" with him sometimes. :/
