    Today on my Toyota pickup I replaced my bushings with polyurethane replacements. Luckily my truck had polyurethane bushings in it prior so I did not have to drill out the old rubber bushings. I jacked up the rear axle, took off the rear tires, jack stands under the Fran to hold the truck in that position, then lowered the axle until the tension was off of the lead springs. I could then unscrew the bolts that hold the lead spring to the frame mount. Once the bolts were out I lowered the axle further to gain access to the bushings themselves. I pulled out the old polyurethane bushings with pliers. Cleaned the eye of the lead spring, greased the new bushings up, then put the new bushings in. I did the front of the leaf springs first on my truck than reattached the front and replaced the rear. I left the unbolted on the entire time. Worked out just fine.

    I just watched this video again and I wanted to emphasize how important chalking the tires and securing the jack stands are. The way I did my bushing replacement I had to push on the rear axle while it was on jack stands to align the leaf springs eyes so that I could get the bolts back in. If the truck isn’t supported well it could fall on you.
    Also I’ve had these new bushings on many off-road trips now and they are holding up great even with the lockers.
    Edit: The front bushings are starting to tear, perhaps I had them over tightened but I don't think so.

    Thanks for video mate. Very informative. Especially the end where you said make sure you put the tyres back on before you go for a drive. I almost forgot😂

      I’m not sure exactly, they were on there when I got it. They they use the Toyota size bushings but I don’t know how much lift. I’m wanting to go to Chevy 63” springs soon for the rear

    should the shackles be moving? or should the bolts be tight?

    • @tryonscion6823
      @tryonscion6823  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The middle bolt shouldnt move. The top and bottom bolts should be tight but not too tight that it damages the bushing. She shackles move when you drive forward and back and slightly sideways. I made sure I used locking bolts and red loctite so the top and bottom nuts didn’t back out

    Hey bud. I believe you said you had vibration I have a Nissan Frontier with rear vibration you think it could be the bushings it seems to only be coming from one side ….

      Chock the front tires, put the transmission in neutral, the push up shake ans twist the drive shaft. Look for anything that looks loose or has play in it. Also check your lugs nuts sometimes it’s something simple like maybe the tire shop didnt tighten them up. If you have tire spacers definitely check the lugs on those too. Let me know

    Dont waste your time with Polyutherane bushes like these. Rubber bushes are much better unless your racing a car . Rubber Bushes are quiter and smoother and generate less road noise and you never have to take your suspension apart vs Poly where you have take your suspenevery apart every few years to grease them becasue they squeak . Rubber bushes tend to last about 20 years , so I would rather take my suspension apart every 20 years vs Poly where you have to your suspenion apart every 1 to 2 years to grease them to stop them squeaking. I had Poly bushes and they squeaked every time I drove thru a Puddle and had regrease them every time . I now stick to OEM rubber and dont have to worry about driving in the rain etc and taking my supsension apart all the time to grease.
