God, I was in this video, there were a group of us from Anna Schers theatre in Islington rounded up for the day , we had to play the fans outside. Good fun..
A sensational album. Every song is a killer. One of my favourite albums of the 80s. Deserved to be huge. Waited for the follow-up, which never happened. Such a shame. If you've never heard it, track it down. It still sounds great. Awesome production. Had it on tape in the day and recently bought the LP. So happy to have the vinyl. A band which deserved far more.
Absolutely!! They also had a song called "Cut It" on the Soundtrack of the movie Breakin'. I guess it's like me waiting for the follow-up album by Belouis Some. Loved the song Imagination and his song Some People was used in Swatch ads by then. How time flies!
AGREED! I played this thing to death! I can count on one hand the number of times I found an album where ALL the songs were spectactular--this was one of them!
Actually preferring the 70's, first time I saw this song on MTV it hit me! I had to buy the CD immediately - to my surprise ALL songs are a smash! Still listening after almost 40 years now..
I would throw VHS tapes in the VCR and record until the tape ran out! Then play them to see if my faves were captured. Then I had the thrill of that fast forward button 🤣 We thought we had some hype technology 🤣 Wouldn’t trade being a teen in the 80’s for anything! 🪩💃🏼🎊
This band should have catapulted to bigger and better things. They were so underrated, but I think that they should get back for a reunion. Plus, I remember two versions of The Politics of Dancing, but we all remember the original, but this one, I definitely remember, because a DJ from KROQ FM @ 106.7, by the name of Richard Blade (L.A. video host of MV3, Video 1, and Video Beat) played this on Video Beat, which came on Saturday mornings on KTLA Ch.5 in Los Angeles. Thank you for bringing this video back to the forefront. Music today, can't hold a candle to RE-FLEX, or any of the bands from the 80s.
When this track came out it was head and shoulders above the rest in regards to the mix and how it sounds on a high quality sound system. The sound engineer should had gotten an award for this mix. The regular radio did not do it justice. It sounds amazing on my now vintage 380 watt high end Pioneer stereo system with tweeters, super tweeters, mids, 12 inch woofer and a stand alone 15 inch subwoofer. My 3300 sq ft house literally shakes when turned up.
man i remember when i first saw this video on MTV those were the good old days where music was music not this crap theyre trying to call music now a days
Agree. Such a good groove. Many great British bands back then had it. Belouis Some's track Imagination, Blow Monkeys track Digging Your Scene, Curiosity Killed The Cat song Misfit, and Love And Money's Candybar Express (w/Andy Taylor) of Duran Duran on guitar. There are so many. Check them out. I've collected many of them back then.
Wow. This KROQ 106.7 Pasadena, California hit just came to mind as a tongue in cheek ~ so to speak ~ addition to a current playlist of mine ~ politically themed. Breaking up the monotony. My sister lived in Pasadena and even though I'm a rocker - I listened to this style of music and enjoyed some. Even to today. Buzzcocks and Ian Dury & the Blockheads particularly drew my attention. RIP Ian metaltomotown

i had this on my cassette tape and i lost the tape. i spent a miserable month thinking id never hear the song again, bec in India in the eighties, a lot of music was not easily available
For a split second I thought the guy playing the director was Mark Hamill, but then I remembered that this was in the early 80s and he was still a young dude.
This came out when I was 23 years old and it wasn’t until this year 2023 that I found out that this was not a song by David Bowie. I thought that was Bowie singing it. I don’t know who the vocalist was but it’s eerie. No wonder I couldn’t find Bowie’s version. I just stumbled across it 40 years later
I will never forget the first time I hear this song as the passenger of a hot chick that I ended up going home with after the club, she had this blasting and we both smiled and laughed all the way to her apartment. The rest is 1980s history.
It sounds like a variant of a David Bowie song. This song makes you feel a bit edgy and gives assurance in yourself that tonight, is gonna be a great night.

Just wondering who in your crowd went on to make it in the world acting/performing arts ?
What a great story! I’m in a couple of Queen videos, but that was via the fan club.

Couldn't agree more! Took the words outta my mouth! Brilliant album.
80s classic! Loved that song back in the day.
Yep, this one is rare. It is the original version played only a few times on MTV. I was in my late teens and in college and will never forget it.
Such a great time; when Mtv actually played music videos!

I thought I knew every 80s song but I was wrong. Hearing this on the radio right now and had to look it up. It's cool.

I've still got my Marantz 2265 and like your Pioneer amp, the house shakes when I turn it up.
If you thought this mix was great you should listen to propaganda a secret wish album
The 80’s greatest decade for music 😎😎😎

Still love this song and the album. Plus, Baxter was a sexy thang back then... :D
This is the first time I see a video for this song. I had it on an Eighties compilation of synth music and it is great!

This guy's got a great voice!
I found an interview he did about ten years ago; he is a huge Bowie fan and the interviewer thought his vocals were very Bowie influenced.
Great song and video.
I'm glad they changed the original because the roller skating in the real video is the best!!!
80 s RULE.....I love OUR eighties. "Boy, do I miss em"!
Fishman throwing some serious 80s shapes there!
nothing like the 80's!
that's because you were to young for the 60s /Best cars & music
Bought the single back in the day. I think it was only a top 30 placing.

Incredible
Anyone have the RARE live performance from way back? Stunning.
There ARE 2 video versions to this song... This one looks more 80's MTV. And, dude looks like 80's MacGuyver here. 👍
When this came out I was 11 - and thought of Mrs Margaret Thatcher dancing to this due to the title

My 3 Songs, today's list:
1984 - Bowie
Liar - Rollins
Politics of Dancing - Re Flex

Boring fact. The drummer, the late Roland Vaughan Kerridge, played on a Gilbert O’Sullivan album☝️.

The deeper meaning of the song was about emergent rave culture.
They admitted about it afterwards
To this song, one naive lamb lost his virginity in the arms of one hyper-temperamental she-wolf... Who did not let him out of bed for several days.🤣🤣🤣
Get more of those 80's music artists back on their asses to make new music again.
