One company came out with a controller with the brand name "Keytar" (which actually wasn't a big seller compared to its competition models) but no one was able to use it because it was trademarked.

    The best rendition I ever heard of this song was done by my son's middle school band in 1988 at a school band concert. They did well with all their songs and then the final one was "Funky Town" and the kids went over the top -- a bit disjointed as a middle school band would be but with huge feeling --- it was fabulous. Luckily I had my little tape recorder with me and can still play it.

    Releasing a cover just seven years after the original is normally risky and does not guarantee a hit but these guys are great and delivered a smash that reached #6 in the USA. Thank you Aussies. You are the greatest.

    • @MrRobarino
      @MrRobarino 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Normally risky"?....no, not at all. 7 years was not risky at all. Do you have any idea how often a cover version is released soon after the original? For example, Eric Clapton released his version of "I Shot the Sheriff" 1 year after Bob Marley did. Proud Mary by Tina Turner, 1 year after the original. Girl's Just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper, 4 years after the original. Several of Van Halen's early hits were cover songs. Heck, Kiss by Prince was covered by both Art of Noise and Tom Jones while Prince's version was still on the charts and both covers made the top 20. Everyone from Nine inch Nails to Elvis Presley have done similar.
      If anything, covering a hit song so soon after the original is far less risky then making an original song.

    The ultimate 80s boy band, Pseudo Echo out of Australia. This remake of Lipps Inc Funkytown ranked in the top ten on Billboard where it remained in various categories for nearly one year. *It was released late October 1986. It was the highest selling dance single of 1987. So popular was the tune that it virtually debuted in the top ten globally. It is widely considered to be vastly better than the original, an opinion I hold as well.
    Anthony Argiro was the original bands drummer. He was later replaced with Vince Leigh, brother of the lead singer.
    Vince performs with the band in this video. Labeled the "ultimate 80s dude" Vince gained celebrity status in his own right from fans and followers of this extraordinary band.
    My opinion, the boy was HOT as all get out, and when it comes to percussion few are better, none can compare to his rhythm. "One adept percussionist"
    Drummers are universally intensely high energy fellas which is why I find them so attractive and completely irresistible.
    Vince left the band in 2007 and was replaced with Cameron Smith (drummer)
    In 2020 the band released their 6th and 7th LPs. In May of this year Pseudo Echo released their 6th LP titled Acoustica. In September they released their 7th LP titled After Party.
    *Stats; according to an independent record industry media site.
