First... My heart aches (now in my senior years) for the 1980's. Best times ever. Second...John Baxter's vocals. What a great voice. Lastly...the message. Man, 2024 and the message of the song seems to resonate more than ever. 🙏❤
@@markmewordz6860 Actually TBH it's too long ago for me to remember precisely. Might very well be about then, HOT CHOCOLATE were also playing and I knew Patrick Olive so met up in the BBC bar afterwards, should really remember this nostalgic stuff, but memory like a hard drive that's full!
Yep, late 'seventies - early 'eighties were TOTPs best years, no question - Abba, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Blondie, Level 42, The Pretenders, John Travolta & Olivia Newton John, The Human League, Madonna, The Bee Gees, Elton John, Adam Ant, Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet, Eurythmics, DAMN, so much good music, and so much of it British!
I was so excited when I located you dancing next to the girl with the stripey hat! It's just as if not a moment had passed since those nights we all flocked together to listen to Top of the Pops! Trust you to get right to where all the action was so effortlessly!
The film Atomic Blonde featuring the gorgeous Charlize Theron brought me here .. fab song .. i`d almost forgot about it .. great upload ,,,love it .. thank you ..
Well you have done a great 👍 of putting this upload video of early 80's group reflex a one hot wonder song of possibly 1982 and did went on tour with other bands but didn't get enough attention at all.
Awwww man that`s cruel ... but i get your jist .. no bald guy would ever make the charts nowadays?? ....too many talentless "pretty boys" ... i miss the 80`s ..
You did a great job extending the visuals by using the video after TOTPs cut out. How sad that was their only appearance on TOTPs - the song went down in the charts after this I think. Inexplicable it didn't get to Number One it's a fantastic track. Thanks for this great upload, you did a brilliant job!
@@marcuslavaggi-bowen6539 Yes, it's a reminder how crucial promotion is to the success of any new product however good it is, be it a song, a book or a new brand of apple pie! The song deserved to be a much bigger hit, no question. The problem was TOTPs was such a huge show, with fierce competition each week from the record pluggers to get their artist featured, a band like this which was not yet established could easily get lost in the mix. It's disappointing 'Re-Flex' didn't produce more songs of that high standard. If they had, they'd have been among the biggest British bands of the 'eighties.
Quite hard to believe that this song peaked at only No.28 in the UK charts back in 1984. I can't help think if they released this song a year later when the charts were less strong it would have gone much higher in the charts.
I'm a bit amazed by the image quality of all those videos... did you have access to the original tapes or are these recordings from restored BBC reruns?
Can anyone get me a link to the couldn't stand a day 7" version? its nowhere to be seen on planet earth except my 7" vinyl copy which i cannot play. ps thats not the repeating verse lines version available everywhere else, like the version on the album

Such an underrated new wave band from the 1980s!👍🎹❤️
I remember this song on the radio here in Australia. Peak 80s sound and video ❤😊

A brilliant song should have been a huge hit
It was a good song, I remember it back in 1984 at age 8
Scandalously this cracking tune didn't even break the top 20 in it's native UK. Underrated and unappreciated band from a great decade of music.
True. But also don't forget there was such a wealth of great music that every Top 20 song was incredible in those days.
From a great 4 years of music.
You are so right, I love this classic and I was surprised it didn't make the top 10.
Always thought they were aussiea
40 years ago! Oh boy! Still sounds great though.
Whoever wrote the (synth) bass line in this song is a genius. Perfect note choices bobbing in and out of the melody. Subtlety brilliant.
That's Nigel Ross-Scott with the bass guitar. Paul Fishman did some bass work on the PPG.
All about the PPG bass notes. Credit to Fishman!
This title deserves millions of views. I love this guy on the synth he's into the sound !
One of my favourite songs from the 80s ♥️
Me too
Very nice !
Mine too
Played this to death on my Sony Walkman… still love it to this day❤️👌👌
This one's a real thumper. Love the pounding beat.
A truly superb song.
Love it. Love it.. such feel good music...where has time gone?
Such a great song, the groove is so strong. The lead singer had a powerful voice.
Was in art school in France in 80s now in my 60s still one of my favourites -feel like dancing and crying 😂
My favorite 80's tune
My #1 song from the 80”s. That’s saying something! Class of “88
And there I am with my long permed hair dancing behind the titles and by the girl in the red striped hat - 24 years old - oh the memories.
Nice. What month? I am guessing August?

I hereby declare this the greatest pop-movie dance mashup I have ever seen. Joyous.
Live Top of the Pops show, Thursday 23rd February 1984.
@DM True. 1982 to 1985 were the best years for the show IMO.
Love this! Sung it alot in the 80's 90's 2000's and still love it.

Thanks so much. Memories of hearing this on a ferry to Holland with my girlfriend en route to Amsterdam. Haven’t heard it since, Stu X

One of the best one-hit wonders ever. I got the message thanks.
Anyone here in 2020?? What a track-mix of Duran/Frankie etc etc-out on their own though, for this amazing track!! How can you not thumbs up it???

für mich eine der geilsten 80 Jahre Bands...da wackelt die Tanzfläche..
Definitiv, Schulabschlussparty 1984 und damals auch Dr.Mabuse, puh ist das lange her.😀
SOOOOO GOOOOD!
I had a massive crush on Baxter at the time. Many moons later I still see why
He was SOOO fit!
Wish we could go back to MCMLXXXIV

He looks like 1 of the coolest slapheads of all time playing that bass on that 80's classic hit

It got to No.28 shortly after, but would have done an awful lot more if TOTP gave it full coverage. Was a No.9 hit in Canada however.

80s classic
Great Voice
These guys many other great songs that did not make it to the radio, too bad eh ?
I wouldn't mind if that tune ran on for about 5 more minutes.
pitty the BBC decided too run this last with the credits over it.
(can't understand their politics)
I see what you did there. 😉
MR GEDWOOD of course u know the POLITICS OF DANCING around the ISSUES! instead of FIXING! them. ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER.
A surprise top 30 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 as well the UK Top 40.
one of the hottest songs released in USA

I usally don't like dance tunes but.. Saw them & the Thomson Twins at Irvine Meadows.
Australia: #12 - April 1984 ❤️😎
1000th like 😊
2 people didn't get the message
back when it was cool to play 2 keyboards at the same time
@srujan00... i still do and then a few🎹🎹
memories & nothing changed in the 20s
So you made contact with the French operative?
Raridade dessa época um careca tocando na banda 😮😅
this band opened for the police feb 1984 at the buffalo aud. i was there.
In places this guy sounds like an exact copy of David Bowie - incredible voice.
The guy on the left at 1:10, with his hands in his pockets....."NO. I am not dancing".
That was then ..blimey 1984
Who's here after watching film Atomic Blonde, ...I remember this back in the day ...cool tune
💖
My hair was like the keyboard players hair 35 years ago now it,s more like the bass players hair👴
What 1984 TOTPs was this on? Any one? Great song
At 1:16 the guy on the left with the moustache abstains from voting with his dancing feet.
Paul Fishman did some for Superman IV after this.
Atomic BLonde movie has sunk me in this song.
Someone on may 20?
He looks a bit like the actor Lee Pace. Nice looking dude.
I don't think you had a choice. If you wanted to play TOTP in 1984 you had to have balloons.
Yes, at least neunundneunzig ;-)
I'm a bit amazed by the image quality of all those videos... did you have access to the original tapes or are these recordings from restored BBC reruns?
BBC 4 currently repeats TOTP shows from the 80s & 90s regularly on a Friday in the UK.
This song in Atomic Blonde is a pure epic moment
It's in Looking for Lola too.
Atomic Shit, this song is better than that crapy hipster film

Serious BASS player
Miming? Hell no....These guys are legit.......
0:02 What is brand and type of the radio?
Keyboard player lots of feelings
sure 84 not before ??? re-flex was the band opening the evening before the police for a while .....
eww in 84 at mesa amphitheatre they opened for the THOMPSON TWINS!
To this song, one naive lamb lost his virginity in the arms of one hyper-temperamental she-wolf... Who did not let him out of bed for several days.🤣🤣🤣
Was that Phil Gould or Mark King drumming?
I'd have to say no.
They'd left the band some time before.
They'd already left to form 'Level 42' - the drummer was Roland Vaugh Kerridge, who sadly died a few years ago.
