Wasn't a massive hit at the time but it will be part of their pension plan forever down their generations. I got the album "Love" when this came out. Well worth a look.
I was 25 or so when I first heard this. It still sounds fresh. I used to tell my late hubby he was my sanctuary, that his love kept me alive.. So, this song resonates. :D
@@tonymerritt7141 Wow never knew that! Big Country was in full swing at this time! The original drummer Nigel Preston was fired after release! Brzezicki must have filled in for the video!
From what I remember, Mark Brezecki played drums for them on the Love album, but She Sells Sanctuary, which he is in the video for, is one song he didn't play the drums on the album. Still Amazing after nearly 40 years - I had it on cassette mid 80's.
Ur almost my father's age and he wouldn't know this music if it fell on his head!!! Bless you man! I'm not a kid by any means at 53 but u give me inspiration man!! Love that
The Cult's 'She Sells Sanctuary' is a timeless classic that perfectly blends hard rock with a haunting, anthemic quality. Its driving guitar riff, powerful vocals, and energetic rhythm create an unforgettable atmosphere, making it one of the band's most iconic tracks. The song’s raw intensity and emotional depth continue to captivate listeners, proving its enduring appeal.
Born in 1972, lives through the 80s and listen to music all the time, and imagine, discover this gem this summer at the age of 50 years old. Can´t understand how I could miss this song. Been played loud every day since this summer, and will continue to do so!
I'm 63 and I am wondering how the hell I missed this during the 80's. What a decade! So much to enjoy...punk, funk, Goth, disco, ska et al. This must have passed me by but it gets a regular listen now via youtube. Brilliant!!
the radio stations stopped playing anything other than Led Zeppelin. Because all the radio stations played it so much, I can't stand the sound of them. When I got radio streaming, I listened to rock music for nearly 3 days of music I'd never heard. At least in the NYC and Philly area. Including this one." Time to get the Led out ", I wish it was to get it out of the radio..
Absolutely BRILLIANT. Perfect vocals, great guitar tones, nice bass, great crisp drums. A very very well written, mixed, and performed songs! Well done!!!
Well I am certainly too old. It's so difficult to find any continuity. Perhaps that's what people want these days. But there are many, many songs that make this one not worth a second listen to.
How lucky was I to enjoy the 80’s during my 20’s ..... amazing music and clothes. Hardly any money and no mobile phones but so much creativity and self-expression. ✨✨✨
Dude, There is a plethora of a-fricken-mazing music made outside the States. New Zealand, Australian, English, European, even Canadian. Once you go beyond commercial radio, The quality and quantity is astounding. Happy listening Bruv.
This song never gets old. The year it came out I was halfway through high school. This is an example of how good the music was in the 1980’s was. Great times back then.
Can hear this song, 20 times a day, and still want to listen again. Gives me power when I am bored or depressed. Great guys playing and singing. Just EPIC !!!!
I’m now 57 & when this was out my mates loved it & I thought it was rubbish! I regrettably, was so wrong & it’s not until years later, I really love this song! I have always been into trance but it just goes to show your musical taste can not change but accept other genres ❤️❤️❤️
Very very succesful band that can buy their own island and live in a full time financial realm you can only dream of..they dont have to mow their own lawn or run a shovel....or cook their own food ever
37 years ago I was 28 years old and hooning about on a Wes Cooley replica Yoshimura Suzuki GS 1000. no cameras, open race pipe and all the yuppies I could piss off as I made lots of noise riding up to Chelsea Bridge on a friday evening!
I was in high school in the 80s and was fortunate enough that I liked a wide range of different music, but I grew up in a farm town and didn't really have access to all of the amazing shit that was out there, unlike now. When I found The Cult, it was an instant LIKE!!! Epic song.

Andrew Campbell okay kind of been there and did that my girlfriend got a brand new Honda Civic we took it up north to San Francisco this was the first cassette that she played on the way there and yes she played this fucking song over and over and over again so on the way back home I I ejected it and threw it out the window she bit my hand she was so pissed!! A at Club scream he was leaning against the wall what do girls next to him and I walked by it any gracefully grab my hand and kiss my cheek and his lips were just beautiful and my friend Andrea the girl with the Honda got so pissy She left me in LA! I would not trade that for a fucking thing😁💋
@Mike Morris The lead singer 🎶 of The Cult singing this iconic song as well as Firewoman. Ian fronted The Doors several years ago (closet to Jim Morrison they could get) ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
😂 definitely not the greatest, 😂 not with Led Zepp and Zappa The Floyd, Stones, , Caravan, god , the list is endless. It's too basic and easy, , where so many bands were musical geniuses, but I do like it; it so sums up a time and place, memories , Camden, my Goth friends so amazing being photographed in Portobello Rd for magazines, no money exchanged in those days, and me a boho hippy girl whose tough goth mates accepted !!!
I saw this video when I was working security at the Ritz rock/dance club in NYC in the 80's. I loved it. Over the years I forgot who the band was, what the title of the song was, what even the melody was. I wondered and watched out that I might hear this song again even once for 40 years. I just knew that I *loved that song I had heard. Then, I was sitting in a bar watching the last Super Bowl...and viola!! They played it as the soundtrack during the end of a quater leading up to a commercial break! I yelled out "What is the name of this song!!!" And more than 1 person then yelled the title back to me. I found it! After 40 years, now I'm finally happy.

Wasn't a massive hit at the time but it will be part of their pension plan forever down their generations. I got the album "Love" when this came out. Well worth a look.
Man, nothing even comes close to this these days!!!! What a powerhouse tune!!!!
They have a bunch of em!
So true, so very very true...!!
Wish there was a time machine because I’d fuk off in it and won’t be coming back
There's plenty just as good you just have to prick your ears
If you like this song check out Wild Hearted Son and Yes Man, both songs by The Cult.
I was 25 or so when I first heard this. It still sounds fresh. I used to tell my late hubby he was my sanctuary, that his love kept me alive.. So, this song resonates. :D
One of the best rock songs ever, you can't get enough of the riffs.
The drums are insane.
Ian is at his utmost in this song.
Did you know that is Mark Brzezicki, drummer for Big Country?
@@tonymerritt7141 Wow never knew that! Big Country was in full swing at this time! The original drummer Nigel Preston was fired after release! Brzezicki must have filled in for the video!
drummer is in the pocket 100%
From what I remember, Mark Brezecki played drums for them on the Love album, but She Sells Sanctuary, which he is in the video for, is one song he didn't play the drums on the album. Still Amazing after nearly 40 years - I had it on cassette mid 80's.
Yes yes....one of the fews that reminds me Jim Morrison....great Ian great the band ❤
A rock band at their peak! Wow those guitar riffs and Ian belting out those vocals. I'm now 73 but this tour-de-force is in my top ten of all time.

There’s no denying, this guy has a tremendous ,powerful voice and this song is a true classic.
Astbury is one of the most underrated frontmen as well. Truly the physical embodiment of the music on the stage.

The voice and thunder of drums .
Homeboy really love his bass.
This is brilliant. Simple, driving, catchy, emotive - superb.

I’m 50 and got to see them live for the 1st time last September 🤘🤘🤘
At least you found it.
when played with massive speakers it's awesome, fantastic to wreck around the floor
1975 & discovered it last year, it's become a favourite of mine & my 13 yr old daughter 🤘
I loved all this alt music born in 76. I only caught this song playing old school GTA. Was either in the San Andreas or Vice city soundtrack I think.
I'm 63 and I am wondering how the hell I missed this during the 80's. What a decade! So much to enjoy...punk, funk, Goth, disco, ska et al. This must have passed me by but it gets a regular listen now via youtube. Brilliant!!
I am 62 (gasp). not much radio play, but I was still a club goer. heavy play in the San Francisco in the good places.
You've found it now. That's all that matters!
End house, end techno...
Tu habites où G.B 🙄😏👉💪💪💪💪💪🇫🇷🇬🇧😋
the radio stations stopped playing anything other than Led Zeppelin. Because all the radio stations played it so much, I can't stand the sound of them. When I got radio streaming, I listened to rock music for nearly 3 days of music I'd never heard. At least in the NYC and Philly area. Including this one." Time to get the Led out ", I wish it was to get it out of the radio..
I'm now 58 and still love this song...played at full blast....only way to listen to it...😁
Needs to be remastered
William Arno I've got the CD lol
I am 61 and this is going on my new and revised "household chores" playlist along with INXS etc!

Add "Fire Woman" to that.
