Note: The main menu is a very important tool to indirectly and subtly teach your players the controls - or at the very least, to set them up with the right control scheme/hand positions. If your main menu uses the mouse, the players will now expect to be using the mouse in-game: You’ve made them place their hand on the mouse - they’re now in that mindset - and making them re-adjust their hand setup once they’re in-game is less than ideal and will be confusing for a first-time player. These small things matter and add up when it comes to player experience. Of course, I may be misremembering that you don’t play with the mouse in-game. I’m just so used to seeing you play with a controller that I forgot what the controls are without the controller. Mouse & keyboard or just keyboard?

I literally got my PS5 30 minutes before your video was uploaded, yet when I saw the video notification I paused my game session for it (take it as a compliment). And yeah Event Dispatchers are great; I used it a week ago in my project so I can call the dispatchers which are bind to different Actor Components. So eventually I am able to make multiple character classes and literally only add components to them to give characters different attacks. Still have to do it for my UI though :/

Man, your game is getting very well done. I love the characters and physics. The only thing that seems a bit funny to me is the animation from legs when walking around. To me, there is a huge difference between the upper body and low body movements. I think that Making a good walking animation as good as the rest of the fighting animations would really bring this game to another level. You could still keep the short steps if you want to keep the cartoony atmosphere.
You need to set up the character customization screen in a way where multiple players can use it at once. You games looking really good btw, your very inspiring to me
Your character customization is awesome! Couple suggestions: unlockable emotes (might be a pain but would be cool, unlockabls skins and such for non solid colors (could even implement a real money store there), and trails and stuff for fists that you were experimenting with in a past video - where you could have something like lightning trail behind your fists as you punch!
Ya know, I had this idea for the menu screen. Something like: You boot up the game, you're in front of the ring (maybe with a cool angle, like a weird half-isometric-half-not really isometric angle). With the customise button, a transition starts (like, imagine quickly moving your gaze to something on your side) and then the photo shoot thingy appears (still in the weird ass angle I described), and then there's the buttons and stuff. But with the option menus it moves you again in the same fashion to, like, a chalkboard (with maybe the organiser and a referee doing idle talking animations or maybe have the referee hold a chalk) and then whenever you change an option, the referee writes on the chalkboard the thing you've selected. It would be cool, just like this very much dope game!
I have 3 ideas 1: when the character is on low health and takes a big hit but doesn’t get KO’d, he should kind of get half KO’d for a couple of seconds if that makes sense 2: if the character starts to reach low health and gets punched so much to the point where they can’t really do anything, the character should rage, you can make up the ideas of what they do when they rage 3: there should be cheats in the game but maybe the player can only unlock cheats when they beat the game if there will be a campaign
Awesome vid man! I have an idea for the start screen and character customization screen. So the Start, Options, and Quit buttons could be more on the left side of the screen while the character could be on the right side inside the arena doing an idle animation. Then when you go to the character customization button, the start screen buttons could slide to the left while fading out and the customization menu could slide in from the right while fading in and vice versa when doing the opposite. Hope you like the idea! And I've been missing weekly uploads! :)

To avoid to get stuck into a loop in which the players always running out of stamina (I noticed it happening a lot in the last video), you could introduce clinching as a mechanic, that allows you to recover stamina and blocks your opponent from attacking. You could expand a bit on that mechanic I think: like a referee sound-effect calling the players to separate after a few seconds, allowing it to happen only when you're out of stamina, etc.
Small suggestion: when you hover over a color, make it show how the full character will look with that color before selecting it. Love the game so far. Cheers!
Yo Ponty! About a month ago maybe I started watching some youtube tutorials on UE4 and then I came across your 6 months progress video. After seeing your video, I decided to take the unreal blueprint course on udemy. Since then, I've been developing a small game as a way to continue learning on my own, and I'm nearly finished! I actually pretty much finished the menus today (level select and options menus were PAINFUL). I've just got to make around 10 more levels, some music, and then figure out how to implement the music so it won't restart everytime I load a level. I'm looking forward to seeing your future devlogs, have a great day!
