I was shocked by how satisfying the animation looked right from the start
same
Video is just normal till animations than i shocked too
Me2
seems like he is been doing his job pretty good for the past 8 years :D
When did billy get a body
i honestly squealed when he jumped the first time. so making it cute was a success haha
Amazing hahaha. I'm very happy with that reaction
@@RobertThomsonDev I like the way you think, those simplistic lego mechs are really cool. I think I will use them as well for a proof of concept.
God, calm down. It's 1st devlog, and you just did that whole polished player in it.
I love the anims btw.
Yeah a dev log starting from the very beginning with an empty unity project would be kinda boring.
He's speedrunning this
He's an animator lol
Stunning animation, I could spend hours just looking at you moving arround, great work !
so true
same
My first reaction: This looks interesting.
Once the robot starts moving: Holy shit this already looks awesome and cool like what!!!! Damn that animation is pristine.
I enjoyed this so much, already looks so good. Subscribed with notifications on 👍
👍🏻
munanyo
Me too :D
Noice
Didn't you make that shrek video
No idea why this popped up on my recommended page, but it looks cool. Good luck on your dev journey! :)
Well I'm grateful that it did! Thanks very much and thanks for clicking 😁
Popped up on my phone too. Glad it did. Great devlogs you got there :)
It's crazy how the animation alone made me want to play this character!
All these independent developers sharing their journies with us is amazing
"I'm designing this game with speedrunning in mind". You sir have caught my attention and earned a sub xD
I'm so glad you're making this with speedrunning in mind, I think this sort of mindset will hopefully allow more ways for people to get into the game. Good luck man!
I'm personally into the Evangelion mech stuff, but I also think lego mechs are super cool! The animation already looks great and I like how much thought is going into the player movement - keep up the great work!
are you more of a huge mechs person or a minibot type person?
@@garorade Hard to say - I do like mechs across pretty much the whole size spectrum, but I will say I am a fan of vehicle sized mechs!
@Mythic Legion when will you release a new video????
Would love to see a slightly different model when he rolls, kind of like he's a transformer so he turns into more of a ball/his parts come together more
Agree. It's so square it looks a bit strange that it rolls. having wheels on the "knees" or arms and gliding on those like a car could work, and I'm sure that would open up more opportunities for drifting and stuff if you wanna go down that route.
i love that idea i thought of that as well
the animations are soooo adorable omg
Giving birth to Robert DeNiro is actually a quintessential part of the filmmaking industry
That's a really solid basis for the game! Nice to see a professional animator approach a whole game, oh, and also: "BUH"
a wild Jelle appeared!
For when the bot does a long jump have it say “yahoo” just like Mario 64 but in beeps
beepoo?
taroo!
beepooooo
Say yahoo in binary!
@Vinold Ofoeze-Morrison so many numbers just for 5 letters. God
I have almost no technical knowledge about game development and coding. But, I have recently started watching coding and game devlogs only as an entertainment choice. I must confess that, from everything I have watched so far, not only had you the most systematic and wise development methodology, but you ended up with an extremely ideal mechanics in the end. Great job
Looking awesome! I'm a huge fan of SM64's movement, especially for its time. I'm seeing a lot of it in your project, especially in the bounciness of the character! Glad you're tackling your dream project head-on, I recently got in to Game Dev (previously a full-time musician) and have been having so much fun!
Wow that movement looks so incredibly smooth! Nice job! I love the art style, can’t wait to see where this game goes.
I love devlogs so much. Can't wait to watch the growth! :D
Damn those animations look clean as f
You haven’t even made a level yet and this already almost looks like a finished product. The animations are so smooth and satisfying and the way the player controls looks really fun! Definitely gonna keep following this devlog! This is incredible!
3D artist here! Really wonderful animation work. It makes the character (and the whole experience) pop so much. Incredible.
its a mess there are so many underrated channels like yours keep up the amazing videos love to see you making your dream game
DUDE!! the first animation pass was shockingly good! and already having a long jump and a ROLL... i genuinely am sold on this game already. Odyssey is one of my favorites as well. amazing stuff
This game looks amazing. I loved seeing the animations! I love the little running animation, to me it seems like the robot is running playfully/like a child which I just love the look of.
This was recommended to me and I regret not clicking on it the second I saw it
Great job! This was so fun to watch!!
i like where your going because seeing advanced movement is more fun to watch, harder to do but is sooooo much more fun when you do it
very inspiring, ive been depressed recently and this made me happy man thank you!
wow your animation knowledge shows really strong on this , as soon as the character started moving the game looked inmediately professional.
The animations already look so good! I love this!
The animation on the main robot guy were UNBELIEVABLY good!
Great work man.
I love how you talk about your jump from Animation to GameDev.
I've been an animator for about 3 years, I'm still learning a lot and I consider myself a beginner.
I've been always a gaming guy and loved the idea of creating a game. I'm hoping some years from now I'll be doing that with my childhood friend that is right now studying computer graphics. Joining is knowledge of programming with my own design and animation knowledge will be fun!
Thanks for the inspiration 😁 You got a sub!
Looking at your latest Dev logs to this one, It seems you've done what we all do in our learning process. Everything in this vlog was perfect. Keep it small xyz, for speed runners etc. In your last few logs you kept growing the scope of the game without finishing the core game loop. A pit I've fallen into many a time. Treat this like your few week long games and you'd be surprised what you could do with it! Limitation creates innovation.
this is sick man, your passion for making the gameplay satisfying with all these little details you found from playing platformers over the years is really admirable
Interestingly, I really liked your first main character iteration. Your game inspiration consists of some of my favorite games, good start and good job so far.
Ive been into devlogs for a little while now and im glad you popped up on my reccomended, this looks great already.
Im so glad its not just me with 300 tabs open at a time. Great video, well done
Already looks awesome, excited to see how this ends up. :)
I think that the main point on the platformer you are doing is your ability to create this perfect looking animations, just awesome work
I've rewatched these over and over in anticipation for the next devlog
Found the 4th devlog in my reccomended skipped back here to start from the beginning. Loved the series so much.
I like 3D platformers too
I love your comparison of having to birth Robert Dinero to be part of your film.. best explanation ever on the benefits of not building everything from the ground up.
Man this looks incredible! The animation is so bouncy and satisfying, this is going to be epic!
All the little details like the wall camera thing are great aswell, I have it when the camera clips into my head and then gets stuck there
The character is also very cute so no worries there haha :>
That subreddit is so cool haha. Also your little robot's animations are so bouncy and cute! Amazing first devlog, I subbed to see how this goes. I want to learn to do 3D someday, I'm making a 2d devlog now :D
Subscribed with notifications on, really keen to see how this game turns out and love how you've layed out the video, really smooth and I'm actually interested in what you're talking about. Great work!
Amazing how far the channels come. Way more confidence in the newer videos. Keep it up
Holy crap this is cool! Can't wait for more! You've earned a sub!
Great devlog and character! He looks great, and from the sounds of things he sounds like he'll be fun to move with too! Oddysey is one of my favorite games too, one of my few games where I've truly 100% it (got the 999 moons) just because moving with the movement tech in that game is so much fun.
Lol at 9:14 with the number of tabs, I often get into the same habit but try to clean it up for recording
Also lol at the downloads, like can see you downloading the Incredibles "Math is Math" clip ready to be used in this video!
Thanks man! yeah odyssey is just ridiculously good. Haha I don't really mind if people see my tabs and downloads 👍
This looks AMAZING 😍
Wow, this already looks really polished as far as movement goes. Excited to see the levels you come up with.
This is gonna be fun to watch
that robot looks cute and awesome already =)
Cant wait to see more of this!!
ok that animation will help alot when it comes to platforming. It looks so fluent and responsive. The WHOLE GAME looks fluid and responsive, very nice stuff
Holy moly, I really like what I'm seeing here! I can tell you've put a lot of thought into movement and speedrunning. Keep it up!
Sidenote: Do you watch IGN's Developers React to speedruns of their game? I feel like you would enjoy it.
I do! I love those videos, I think it's the best idea IGN's had in years! And thank you so much! I will try my best :)
@@RobertThomsonDev yup! So entertaining!
You are so GODDAM GOOD with those animations that I literally clapped out of excitement he i saw him jump... I WANT THIS GAME SO BAD
Very excited to continue following your progress. As a fellow fan of Jak and Daxter and 3D platformers, I can already tell how cool this is going to look (and already looks). Stay focused, don't get discouraged. Keep the great work going!
I am so glad I saw this chanel because I love your idea in mind and the animation is just what I love.
Game's already looking amazing and the cute little robot running and jumping around so smoothly, I can tell this is gonna be big. 👍 Subbed
I think it would be cool that when he long jumps, little rockets come out from his back and boost him. Anyways, this is looking great, can't wait to watch more!
That's a great idea! Will definitely be adding that at some point, thanks!
i thought the same, also him turning into a car when rolling, because it felt weird for a boxy robot just roll as if he was round
Or maybe a jetpack?
Edit: fixed typo
Animation is godly .. really good job it's one of the best I've seen so far
It's been one hell of a year. Love your content man keep it up.
Good luck on the project mate. You've got a great approach and the consideration that you've put into movement goes well past making a fun platformer. Thanks
Thanks man! I'm so glad you think so!
@@RobertThomsonDev Oh and as a tip for adding to your movement profiles; how about adding a slide mechanic from the run, it fits with your speed run focus and it's a fun little move that you could use to get through tight spaces / low overhangs?
THIS IS SO GOOD!! I’m so happy I found this! Quality video man! And this looks absolutely stunning already for a first devlog I’ll be happily following your process !
This game looks so good! I can't wait to play it when it comes out!
This looks sick so far, hope this goes far
Wow this looks really cool, don't think I've seen a 3D platformer/collectathon devlog before! Controls look fluid and animations look great.
I look forward to the next devlog. :)
Thanks so much man! Also I loved your avatar so I checked out your project, the art style is v charming :D
@@RobertThomsonDev Just realised that vid was still public, oops (shocking editing and audio!). I'm glad you like the artstyle though, the positive feedback is much appreciated!
@@kadable4077 haha no worries I didn't actually get a chance to watch with audio yet, I was just admiring your gameplay :)
I clicked on this video because the robot looked cute, seems you've achieved your goal, nice job! Looks great already.
After the massive success of some of these creators I think it’s time TH-cam adds a programming/Game design category
This looks amazing so far I wish you luck on your solo game making journey and can’t wait to watch your progress
So cute!! I hope he gets a lil smiley face on the tv screen
wow those animations. so satisfying
The little robot is SOOO cute. With good color choices, I can see him easy to fall in love with.
Maybe add an antenna?
Subscribed with notifications on already. I absolutely love Devlogs, especially Indie Game Devlogs! I want to play this so badly
Liked and subscribed - one of the most interesting dev logs I've seen on TH-cam, keep going my man!
This is awesome, really like how you talked through your inspirations, goals and thought process as you started working on the character and controls. Already looking slick but you're an animator as you say. Looking forward to following this, big fan of the old Jak & Daxter games too
Holy shit, I used to love building mobile frame zero stuff when I was a kid. I completely phased it out of my memory till u reminded me of it now, thanks man
This is the first devlog I will actively watch and stay engaged with!
I really do hope this game will become a reality!
I love your character :D he's like a little lego bulky boy and its greattt!
When the robot starts to run around it really shows that you're an animator
Love it. Imma tune into this.
As a fictional robot enthusiast and someone who likes 3d platformers, this is super cool. low key hype to see what it turns into.
My dream game isn’t this simple
Excited to see this project evolve!
Very useful tips on Unity optimization, physics and animations. Thank you very much!
Woah, an amazing journey!
Thanks for sharing, I learnt a lot from you about platform character control now :)
Animations look AMAZING. You can do this man. I had kind of a bad feeling when you bought the asset from the asset store at the start though.
Just don't fall into the trap of buying everything on the Asset store. Make lots yourself, or at least learn from tutorials so you know how it's done.
I'll drop a sub, I'm excited to see how this goes.
Thanks man! I definitely won't be using any pre-made art assets, but I don't see anything wrong with using pre-made assets that help with functionality :) Unity itself is a pre-made asset after all :D I have already added a bunch to the code and learned a lot about how this particular asset was set up
I love that animation, stuning!! 💓💓💓
Wow your dev logs are amazing I hope this will be amazing story about you and your career
Omg ur editing skills are absolutely incredible man
Looking very good so far man! Loving the animations. I'm currently working on my adventure game devlog as well and you provided some nice stuff to think about for my own game. Cheers.
Wow, I love how cohesive this whole concept looks, the lego mechs seem like a really cool explanation. You mentioned feature creep at the beginning, idk, this seems like something that is very distinct and at least from what you've shown so far, it looks like things are fitting together very well. Definitely going to follow this. If you're interested, I'd really appreciate a look at some of my devlogs as I am doing some pretty out-of-my-element animation work, and since you're clearly a proficient animator any feedback would be really awesome.
This is incredible!! There simply is not enough love for 3D Platformers imo, you're doing God's work! Cannot wait to see this as it is created.
9:15 robert showing the tutorial
me looking at the videos on the side, good job with animations you are great keep going
For a suggestion for your next dev log vid do something about adding and improving the character's moveset because this character has a ton of potential. Keep up the amazing work!
Good to see someone with motivation, looks good, keep it up
