What You Need to Know About the Holy Spirit.

  • I had the privilege to sit with Pastor Costi Hinn and talk with him about the Holy Spirit. Out of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, it seems the one that many Christians are the most confused about is the Spirit. Costi unpacks 5 facts about who the Holy Spirit is, what He does and what He doesn't do.
    Timestamps:
00:55- Who is the Holy Spirit, and who is He *not*?
03:45- Why is it appropriate, biblical, and wonderful to pray to the Holy Spirit?
12:26- How to avoid extremes between legalism and sensationalism?
17:03- How can we test who we think the Holy Spirit is against scripture if we don't have a Bible?
    28:15- A plea for unity.

He’s EXTREMELY RIGHT! I became a born again Christian 2 months ago and got wiped clean by The Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit and complete 360 in my life and I never had a bible AND nobody condemned me saying I need Jesus or should be a Christian. I just simply one night called out to Jesus Christ asking for the Truth and it was given to me. The One True God is Everything and Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And definitely nobody goes to the Father but through him. Knock and Jesus will answer. He answered to me who was a very sinful person before all this. Amen!

I just read this about who to pray to:
“The Father hears our prayers, the Son makes way for our prayers to be heard, and the Spirit helps us pray.”

However, it sounds like he went totally reformed? I attended a mildly charismatic church with my husband but decided not to become a member because their declaration that evidence of baptism of the HS is by speaking in tongues which the Bible doesn't say that. Also I am uncomfortable with women pastors. But a Baptist pastor is a church I attended recently preached cessationism. I can't buy that either, nor reformed theology.

Yes, praise God his eyes opened to the deceptions and errors of the hypercharismatic movement he was involved in.
Humbling himself and went to study the bible.
However, from what I've listened from him, he seems to hold to the calvinist doctrine which I beleive is not biblical.
Lets remember so, that God still does mighty work even in the midst of humans errors.
Talking about the Holy Spirit, we know that once born again, He indwell in us, guiding us, convicting us, conforting us and leading us in Spirit and in Truth🙏
So, listen to teachings but be a good bereans and check everything you hear against the Word of God in its context.
      "‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
[11] These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so."
      God bless you

@@KM-zn3lx Costi is reformed but from my observation not a Calvinist. He believes in free will.
If you want solid Scriptural teaching, I highly recommend Pastor Mike Winger if you’ve never watched him. He’s excellent, backs up everything he says with the Bible, and definitely not a reformed Calvinist in any way.

I agree with Costi on most things, i do think he dips across a fine line here with praying "to" the Spirit instead of "in or with" the Spirit. There were no verses given to support only the teachings of other men. I do agree we should try keep peace in disagreement when it is not a salvation issue. Love your channel sister.

Cause at the end of the day, she holds to biblical orthodoxy. We should always agree on the main things of the faith. Whether we’re Arminian, Calvinist, Provisionist etc.. as long as we’re holding onto the core tenants of the faith, we are brothers and sisters in Christ. That’s what makes the body of Christ so beautiful! Regardless of theological background (as long as it is not heresy), we’re family. I really appreciate your comment🙏🏾

Brief and simple, but you definitely know it’s Him, and thank give thanks. I do struggle, sometimes, addressing Him, like many do. I’m 72, and it’s taken many years, many stumbles and falls, to even realize a smidgen of how God works with His children, or draws people to Him. We are learning until our last breath, and/or until Christ comes back for us. Well learn in Heaven,

During my slow journey back home to God, while laying in bed, back in December of 2022, I prayed for the Lord to please help me tear down whatever walls I have built within my life that kept me separated from him. At the moment I spoke those words, intense light flowed through my eyes & a fierce wind entered through my feet consuming me fully to the point of slightly elevating my whole body off the bed. Fear entered my mind & then I audibly heard in a booming voice “Fear not for I AM the Holy Spirit, know that IAM!
I was literally paralyzed for quite awhile. Unable to make any movement at all & my only thought was… it wouldn’t matter if I ever moved again. For now I have been touched by God!!

So many teachers skip right over the part where it says you have no need that any man teach you. I like teachers and always have. But I'm not the itching ears type. I don't mind hearing, listening through and chewing on what's presented. I'm not immediately threatened, but I have an indwelling Holy Spirit and a BRAIN. I don't have to repent for using this brain as long as I lean not on my own understanding.
I also won't lean on the understanding of many 'teachers'. (oh boy! I could go on...)

Without having yet watched the complete video, this thought kind of popped into my mind. When the Apostles asked Jesus to teach them to pray, Jesus responded “ Our Father who art in Heaven ….” This , it seems to me, is probably the chief reason we do not think about praying to the Holy Spirit. Also , Jesus told the Apostles that if they asked God for anything in Jesus’s own name …… The Holy Spirit works differently. It is through the work of the Holy Spirit that we have been brought to faith without our asking . Such an interesting topic. My mind is filled with thoughts about the Holy Spirit. Cannot imagine my life without the Holy Spirit .

Wow - such a great commentary from Costa Hinn! There's so much derision from the reformed and charismatic camps unable to come to terms with the work of the Spirit and how He's visibly working His power through believers. Such a refreshing way to see that believers can physically respond by raising their hands in worship and maybe crying to sincerely display thanks and gratitude. The "FROZEN CHOSEN" is a choice as there's nothing wrong with being reserved. But when the Spirit moves in that sound, Biblical way, it's obvious.

The Holy Spirit is God. Let me say it again! God is Spirit! We worship God in Spirit and Truth. In Christ dwelt the fullness of God! Christ is The Word, yes The Truth, and Father God was in Christ reconciling us to Himself.
Let me say it again The Spirit is God! God was in Christ. Jesus said, if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the Father. Jesus wasn’t talking about his body. He was talking about The Spirit in Him. If you have seen The Spirit in me then your spiritual eyes have been open to see God.
On the Day of Pentecost when the Gospel was preached for the first time men from all over the world could see God and know God and Love God. Through the Gospel our eyes are opened to see God, to see and know The Spirit of God.
Through the Spirit we know God. There is No other Way to see God or know God or Love God except through spiritual eyes, ears and the mind of the Spirit. God is Spirit and this is the way to the Father, through the Son.
We must be born of the Spirit. When we SEE the Faithfulness of God in Christ we find Faith coming alive in us. When we SEE the Love of God in Christ we find Love for God coming alive in us. If we call the Goodness of God in Christ Jesus evil we can’t be born again. The Holy Spirit is the Goodness of God poured out to us through the Gospel. The Holy Spirit is the Goodness of God revealed to us in the Cross of Christ.
God is Good, yes Perfect, yes Holy. The Heart of God is Pure and Righteous and can ONLY be revealed to us through The Cross of Christ.
The Holy Spirit revealed to us, yes poured out to us Transforms us. To know the Goodness of God transforms all that that don’t reject His Spirit.
So yes of course The Father always Lifts up the Son. This is the Spirit of the Father. He wants to call you son and Lift you up with Christ.
If you walk in the Spirit, yes in the Light The World will SEE the Good Works God prepared before creation for you to walk in and Lift up your Father in Heaven.
The Holy Spirit is God. You can see him! In Christ the Temple of God we enter into the Presence of God and worship Him!!!!

What I've learned is that the Holy Spirit is Not a Feeling or an Experience according to scripture. It's not about feeling electricity or jumping around like a nut and speaking gibberish. That said I did all this and thought I was Godly and had the Holy Spirit. I was wrong. God bless you both and your ministries To God be All the Glory! By the way I'm that guy that will Scream Hallelujah in the middle of a sermon! Getting the book and subscribing to you both! God truly is Good!!!

@@carolync6446 I wasn't at Bethel, I was at another prayer room who copied Bethel. It's when everyone lines up in two rows. Think of when you throw rice at a bride and groom and people walk through. People pray for you, speak gibberish, scream, cry, touch you, poke you in the stomach, grab your head etc. trying to get you "slaine" in the spirit. People start convoluting and falling over, pretending they feel something supernatural happening.

I came out of oneness Pentecostalism and it has taken me decades to better understand the God-head. I still don’t and in my finite mind won’t be able to completely grasp how He (God) works. Today, I learned more about the HolySpirit. I know that He is God, but have never prayed to Him. I have used “Lord” to address God when I’m not sure. I will continue, but speak more directly to Him. I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit who has worked deeply worked in my life!

The parable of the wind in John 3:8 makes for some interesting contemplation since a person can not see their own thoughts until they write them down.

Costi got it spot on. When a person starts reforming their beliefs they more often than not find themselves on the extreme side of being conservative and nitpicking ever action done by others in the church setting. I myself struggled and continue to struggle (though now at a lesser degree) to find the balance. Getting there with God's help.

Never bothered too much about 'charismatic' practice in my early years of my Chrisitan life ( 1970s ) till I 'sought' (through mystical means ) 'tongues experience' sincerely believing this was a means by with I could draw closer to GOD and have victory over life's struggles. This was after 3 years of fellowshipping in a more reformed minded group .
Bottomline: this 'experience' caused me to doubt my salvation and prior discernment. Subsequent teachings by Lordship ( John Macarthur ) just deepened my depression and confusion.

God made us for relationship with him. Sin and our disobedience pushed us apart. Jesus died and tore that vail between us if we accept it! Jesus said we must be born again. Born again is repentance from sin, turning away from sin. Be baptized in water for the remition of sin. We die to ourselves and rise to Christ, washing us clean and being made a new creation! Then we get baptized with Holy Spirit (yes, evidence of this can be speaking in tongues. Also the fruit of a changed life.) Once you are born again, praise God we are now able to be in relationship with God!!! We can't be in his presence and not be changed! Live in relationship with Our Heavenly Father and in obedience to him as you look more like him as you go! I hope that makes sense and wherever you are at in this process, keep seeking him! Jesus said seek and you will find ❤ He wants relationship with you, he loves you!

Religious people talking and you can feel every word resonates as true. This is so rare.
I totally understand/accept the concept of praying towards Jesus and Holy Spirit. Those are not saints, there's no controversy there.
It's just that I have met God the Father face to face (literally, like in the story of the burning bush). This experience overrides everything. God actively changes reality. You will not really understand this unless you share the same experience. And so I will always prefer praying to God the Father in the name of Jesus. But that's just me, and I'm an infinitesimally rare exception.
I would imagine if someone has met Jesus directly, they would prolly feel especially strong connection when praying to Him.

Maybe some people are afraid to pray to and speak to the Holy Spirit for two reasons: 1) Jesus and God in their Heavenly Realm or wherever They choose to be is one thing. Saying, "there's another Spirit in here with me...all the time" is another. To follow, 2) maybe some people think if you directly acknowledge the Holy Spirit, He will convict you day and night!
I was raised Baptist. I don't remember this issue being addressed. I find it awkward to talk to the Holy Spirit but I know He's real and He's here with me always. I want to get over that awkwardness. He is, after all, the Comforter.

Btw I do not support Calvinism “reformed” theology but i had been a Christian for like 20 years and didn’t quite understand the Holy Spirit until i read “Good Morning Holy Spirit” by Benny Hinn. He opened my heart up and helped me understand who he is and how he works.
I know people discount Benny (like Costi did) because of the prosperity Gospel, but he still has some worth.
When you’re Praying God the father in the name of the son you’re praying by the power of the Holy Spirit. I talk to the holy spirit and speak in tongues (since i was 9) but praying to him? I’ll keep an open mind but i’ll look into it.

Jesus gives us a clear example of how to pray to God. Paul teaches us how to pray to Jesus. Nowhere can I recall instruction on how to pray to the Holy Spirit. When, where in a life, and how often to we pray to the Holy Spirit? Do I use an oven timer with a bell to assure me I'm giving HS equal time? Do we divide our time like a pie? So, if I pray constantly and not include the HS by name am I negating the other prayers? This is making me appreciate the Muslim faith more than before. Focus, instead on defining the HS and how it functions.
