The Holy Spirit

  • As the time of His crucifixion drew near, Jesus explained to His disciples why He had to depart and promised to send a Helper: the Holy Spirit. Contrary to some misunderstandings, this Holy Spirit is no mere force; He is a person who has been active since creation. Walking us through the activity of the third person of the Trinity, Alistair Begg explains that it is the work of God’s Spirit poured out on God’s people that conforms us to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.

O, how our hearts grieve when shame is brought on Jesus and the doctrin of God. May the Lord hep each child of God to make the Lord a good solider.

I can hear my friend Shirley Kinsey singing Via Dolorosa as Pastor Begg brings it to mind. She sang the national anthem once for a special ceremony at Escuela Americana but almost all of her talent as a singer and musician was dedicated to Jesus. Her life spoke of the cross, of service before self.

I can tell you that when trying to explain our triune God to others I mainly get a deer in the headlights response and they often say , " do you really believe that fairy-tale". Of course I respond " with all that I am" and I'm praying it will be revealed to them.

So, the Holy Spirit is with us and in us, but other than convincing of sin, righteousness, and judgement, he isn't giving the supernatural gifts which were manifested and given to build up the body.

    • @leenieledejo6849
      @leenieledejo6849 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Indeed. And in John 16:8, Jesus says that the Holy Spirit would convict the WORLD of sin, righteousness and judgment i.e the lost world (such as we WERE, such as Felix was when the Holy Spirit through Paul convicted him in Acts 24:25).
I once heard a sermon from another Calvinist (in his case, a closet Calvinist) on the Holy Spirit and over the space of an hour, he made no reference to Galatians 5:22-23 (fruit of the Spirit) never mind the gifts of the Spirit.
I'm afraid such men cannot possibly have the Holy Spirit indwelling (because if they did, they would make reference to the Holy Spirit regularly in conversation and certainly in EVERY sermon) and that Stephen was not only right but also prophetic:
"Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye" (Acts 7:51)

A very dangerous and deadly doctrine has been sown in most churches and countless Christians have embraced it. That is the teaching that it is impossible to stop sinning and that it is even normal for Christians to live as sinners.
I think the biggest lie in the Christian churches is the teaching that there is no escape from the flesh nature while in the body.
In truth, the flesh has no power over those who have truly been Born Again. The struggle is when people try to conquer their sin by their own power, because they have not received the Holy Spirit:
    Scripture says, Collosians 2:11
"and in Him (Jesus) you were also circumcised with a circumcision performed without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ,"
This tells us that Jesus removes the flesh nature when one is truly reborn.
    Romans 8:9-11 confirms this:
"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you."
    The Apostle John said:
    1 John 3
"Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister."
Jude 1:24 agrees with John's teachings:
"Now to him (Jesus) who is able to keep you from stumbling (sinning) and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy,"
    Scripture also says:
    1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."
If your preacher does not talk like God's prophets and apostles, they are a fake.
When the Apostle Paul spoke about his struggles with sin, he was speaking about his past before he received the Holy Spirit, because he also said:
    1 Corinthians 15:34 :
"Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God-I say this to your shame."
Paul also said, "Those who are in the flesh cannot please God." Romans 8;1-8
When Jesus said, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." He had not sent the Holy Spirit yet.
    Jesus told the Pharisees,
"You will die in your sins."
For anyone who dies in their flesh, they are guaranteed to end up in Hell.
    Scripture confirms this:
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 8:13.
God's grace does not allow us to go on sinning. God's grace changes us. God's grace does not free us to sin. It frees us from sin. Decieved Christians have a false sense of security believing that they can sin until the day they die and still go to heaven, but they don't have faith in the power of the Holy Spirit to free them from the bondage of sin itself. Any notion of the freedom that God offers is quickly discouraged by false churches. There is more money in it for them if they keep their followers in the dark.
Jesus said, "Go and sin no more." The majority of his followers contradict him.
There is no doubt, countless Christians who have embraced false doctrine have ended up in Hell.
To deny the power of the Holy Spirit to deliver us from sin so that we can live a righteous life is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
    The Apostle Paul said:
"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord."
    Hebrews 12:14
One who has not been converted to righteousness is not saved.
    Galatians 5:19-21 confirms this:
"Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."

How would this passage fit into your doctrine of salvation by works?
      1 Corinthians 3:13-15 NASB95
*_each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it_* because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.
[14] *_If any man's work which he has built on it remains,_* he will receive a reward.
[15] *_If any man's work is burned up,_* he will suffer loss; *_but he himself will be saved,_* yet so as through fire.
