I have/had a friend who totally believes the speaking things into existence. It got to where I couldn't even talk to her about anything going on in my life because I was "speaking" it into existence. Makes for a difficult friendship when you can't even talk about what is going on in your life.

One time about 30 years ago the Lord gave me a dream about my friend. She was going to have her gall bladder removed. I told her that she did not have gall stones anymore and not to have the surgery and to ask her doctor to do another sonogram. She did. Her doctor was very upset but did another sonogram and there were no gall stones. I was very new Christian but was so glad I spoke up. She did not have the surgery and her doctor was amazed. The Lord only used me in this way one time.

I have had epilepsy my whole life so due to many seizures I should have quite a bit of scar tissue built up, I was prayed for before I went to go get a new mri for my new doctor and she kept staring at the results and at me back and forth. Her jaw fell open and she said “your brain is perfect, as if you’ve never had a seizure in your life”!! God is good!

It is an indication of the followers' low level of thinking quality if you presented a discussion point and the simpletons could only tick it.
Truth comports with reality. JC said he wasn't attending the party at the telephone booths, then went anyway.
You can run an apologetics narrative for WHY he lied, but Exo 20;16 says no lying.
If your kids did it to you, you would call JC's behaviour a lie, but double standards are acceptable - if it suits the story.
Sorry that 30 days later and only one person 'discussed' your proposition.

I totally appreciate and agree with you in the area of prophecy. I had been miraculously healed of a very rare form of cancer (after many tests confirming it, the surgeon went in andit was completely gone!) Later, our church brought in a "prophet" who came to me and "prophesied" that my healing was not real, but would return. I left the service saying "I do not accept this word". That was 24 years ago this month! Thank you for this message.

I've had a similar manipulation used on me when I was a young Believer. Jesus forces nothing- ever. Scriptural principles that are Biblical are being misused and things are being not done in faith. Stay in the Word and build your faith and remember all things are possible with God. All things are to be done for HIS glory.
There's no 123 manual to have an easy life here on earth- expect persecution; the more you learn of Christ (study the Word alot!) and get to know His will and move in His gifts (HIS being key)the more one's faith grows. True signs and wonders will follow and God gets all the glory. I do understand the skepticism because there's so much deception and manipulation in today's churches. Sad 😢

When I was 16, I received a prophetic word that changed my life and healed me of the depression I was experiencing.
I went to a church that was hosting a minister who would pray over individuals and, without knowing anything about them, speak scriptures that the Lord would give him for them.
Before he started, he said, "I won't have time to pray over everyone here, so if you hear me say a verse that speaks to you and encourages you, receive it from the Lord." I was feeling hopeless about the future on account of my ASD, believing I had no choice but to live in isolation and dependency. When I heard him pray Jeremiah 29:11 over someone else, I thought, "Okay, God. I know it's trite, but I trust that You do know the plans You have for me. I receive this verse from You."
Shortly after, the prophetic minister came up to me and asked if he could pray for me. The first verse he spoke over me was, guess what? Jeremiah 29:11! That was when I realized, "God, this is definitely from You!"
The last verse he gave me was Psalm 84:11, which reads, "no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless." But from the way he said it, I knew God was speaking directly to me: "no good thing will _I_ withhold from _you."_
God used the words of this man to speak directly against the unspoken lie that I was believing that only He knew about. In that moment He gave me the confidence I needed to face life, knowing that being neurologically atypical does not make me a lesser recipient of His blessing.

You described my experience exactly: Being pressured to speak in tongues, or be slain in the spirit... Being made to feel there was something wrong with me that I wasn't getting "words" from God, or daring to question others' words and prophecies. There is a time and place for some of these things but the Bible commands us to be orderly in our worship. Boy, do we need a book like you have written!

I have been slayed in the Spirit. But I do specifically remember a time when someone was praying over me, and they had one hand on my forehead and another on a pressure point on the back of my neck. She kept trying to push me down, and I felt her doing this. A couple of months later, I was slain in the Spirit, and it was a completely different experience.

Knowing that there are many people who have experienced church/spiritual abuse with these gifts, I definitely think this could be a balanced way to distinguish the differences. It is a lot easier to swing from one end of the pendulum to the other and just say forget about it, but it takes a lot of understanding (and prayer) to be able to decipher what's true and what's not. I think I may just have to purchase this book for my own. Thanks!

... Pointing out the Mistakes of others is the Easiest thing in the World to do ; but this is a Spiritual Principle that our Lord wants us to become Proficient with : Melissa is incapable of getting this working in her life ... so she sweeps it under the Church Carpet instead and claims to be Superior ...

Def buying Allen's book. Already added it to my Amazon cart. And I can relate to the whole "fake prophecy" thing. The church I was saved at had 1 of these guys come in (can't remember his name) and dude pointed at me, said I was gonna "do great things", laid his hands on me, prayed over me whilst speaking in tongue's (yes it was a Pentecostal church, Assemblies of God for those who care) and went to someone else. Hasn't happened yet. Maybe it'll still happen. I'm definitely open to the idea. But I something tells me it won't. It's been 13 years, still waiting.

Just as in the secular world, there are cliques and trends in the church. It's normal for people to want to "fit in". They look and see others who 'seem to be' having a real spiritual experience. It's natural to want this, too and to be considered part of the group. But some of these are pretending, too, for the same reasons. Some people authentically want to experience God and supernatural things, but this is not the right approach. The same thing happened in Jesus's day. There were people who hung around him b/c they liked the excitement and hoped to see a miracle. But Jesus did not entrust himself to them. It's not about the "stuff", it's about a Person! If "the stuff" is prioritized over the Person, the "stuff" becomes an idol. People are attracted to the "stuff", but not so much the Person. Some people eventually learn this and their hearts are softened and they turn away from the "stuff" to the Person of Christ. And begin to follow Him. Others simply drift away once boredom sets in. They will look for something else to entertain them. It's very sad.

(Not saying you personally are) but it makes me wonder if it’s because of previous bad experiences with spirituality? I get the apprehension because we see so many churches abusing the Gifts.. I was not biblically literate when I came to faith. I attended, and was discipled in a charismatic church, and yet I can remember multiple doctrines taught to me where I had to stop and pause and recognize that what I was being told was not true.
*Basically, the lens I have always used to view doctrine is, “Does this exalt Jesus, or is it exalting man?”* Gradually, the Lord led me out of the charismatic church - if for no other reason than the fact that that particular branch of the church has gotten very lukewarm in its seeker-sensitivity.
Conversely, two of my best friends who have been walking with me through thick and thin, *who are biblically literate* absolutely refuse to acknowledge the garbage taught in the charismatic church. How does that happen?!

AGAIN, i want tell people about my learning about all the “approval seeking things” i used to do. That IS the problem. Personally, i had to get AWAY from ALL the other teaching, study thoroughly, with 1 good commentary, and i also dealt with my need to to meet everybody’s approval, and bring them to the Word of God, and to Christ, in Truth, and in prayer, looking to the Word, w/Spirit for godly solutions. I don’t have that need so much any more.
