So glad that the younger romance book tubers are giving older historical romance authors a read. Julie Garwood and Johanna Lindsey are two of my favorite authors. Please try Amanda Quick{pseudonym} she's written a whole of romance in different sub-genres.
Asha Brijmohan, I love Amanda Quick aka Jayne Ann Krentz aka Jayne Castle aka Stephanie James aka Amanda Glass aka Jayne Taylor. I started reading romances at 11 years old back in the late 80s/early 90s, and she is one of the ones that I quickly learned was my favorite author. When I first read her, she was writing many of the Sillhouette/Harlequins as Stephanie James, and then I discovered all these other authors were good and found out it was the same author! She pretty much just writes under the first three names I listed now (I think, unless she is still writing under pseudonyms I haven't discovered.) In the early days, as Stephanie James, her guys were super alpha (don't think the way she wrote them would fly today, but boy oh boy, at the time, I really enjoyed those overbearing/alpha hero books...lol).
The secret was the first Julie Garwood novel EVER!!!!! It has a very special place in my heart. I am so glad you liked it!!!! I also agree w night song!!! I am on a Beverly Jenkins kick... very cool channel
This was a fun review. I was thrilled to see you review The Secret. It is one of my all time favorite historical romances. I really love her early books. My other favorites are The Bride, Saving Grace, Guardian Angel, and Lyon’s Lady. I also love the early Amanda Quick. I have never read Kerrigan Byrne and am looking forward to trying her.
LaceyBooklovers Ah, Ravished! I reread this one every year! Really check out Saving Grace. The theme is physical abuse which is not a common topic for medieval romances. I think you will like it.
I got The Secret on my Kindle! I'm excited to check it out! Would love to see more old vs new historical romances in the future. Very interesting in how they compare!
I'm reading Night song right now for the historical hellions book club! I agree, I don't like the pacing either. My copy has quite a few spelling errors so that keeps distracting me from the actual plot of the story.
I LOVE Julie Garwood, especially The Secret and Ransom! I love The Secret more too! You should definately read Shadow Music, I liked it a lot but not as much as The Secret if I'm being honest. She's easily one of my fav authors and you should check out her contemporary novels too, I've read them multiple times and I can't get enough of them!
I really need to read a Kerrigan Byrne book! Her stories (and heroines) sound super intriguing to me. And it still makes my heart super happy that you read and enjoyed both The Secret and Ransom, because those were the two books that kicked off my love for historical romance years ago! 💖 Also, I laughed when you said “bullied into it by some friends” re: Ransom. I’m still not sorry 🤣
😂😂 thank you for the “encouragement” for Ransom! And YES, read Kerrigan Byrne! Her books are darker and intense and so addicting. I’d love to hear what you think of them!
I can't believe I never read Julie Garwood. I read all of Judith McNaught's books and most of Johanna Lindsey books. I'm 1/3 into The Secret and loving it so far 😄
Hey love the recommendations for the new school romance, I personally mostly read old school romance novels and I have to recommend the Crown's Spies series by Julie Garwood, with a special mention for the gift as it's my favourite 😍
This video is very timely! I've been planning to dive into Historical romances and have been going around YT to check recommendations. 💕 The Virgin and the Rogue sounds good. 😊😊
I haven’t read books since I was a kid but now that I’ve had time and nothing else to do from being in quarantine i started reading again and I fell in love but I’m so picky with what I want to read 😂 i sampled the virgin and the rogue and wow I was not disappointed, I read it all in a day which is a 1st for me. Thank you for the recommendation, I love your videos 🤍
I loved Julie Garwood, but Ransom was one of my least favorites as well because it wasn't as romantic. I am sure I read Shadow Music, but I don't remember anything about it. Pretty much all her stuff before Ransom were my favs, and then, meh. She's still above average as a writer, but she lost the thing that made me really fall in love with her early books. I don't know what that thing is, but for me, it is gone. I go back and reread all the early historicals she wrote though.
Hey Lacey! Amazing video I love Kerrigan Byrne too ♥️ I was wondering have you read where the lost wander by Amy Harmon yet? I’m just now catching up on your videos 💋
Everyone's raving about The Secret and I can't blame them cause it really is an amazing book! I raaarely read lengthy books but this book totally changed my game!! I literally read it in one sitting (though I was lying in my bed! XD)
Oh mah lordt, I saw that you reviewed All Scot and Bothered and I have been DYING to read that book since I read the first in the series and I thought it released early and I was crying happy tears till I saw it was an ARC 😂 Love all of your videos & it'll make reading it in September that much better!
I've read a number of Julie Garwood books and my favorite, far and away is The Lion's Lady. The heroine is English but raised by Native Americans. Great book!
Julie Garwood!!! Love all her historical romance books 😍💕 Her style of writing made me laughed (you know things that didn't made any sense to other character but made sense to the other...) and fall in love with her characters. I recommend you to read Saving Grace, Honor Splendor, The Prize, The Bride, Lion's Lady, Guardian Angel and The Castle.

Amanda quick is high up on my list! I just bought a bunch of used books by her ☺️ I’m thinking of starting with Ravished!
@@LaceyBooklovers Ravished was my first book by her:) and I loved it... Hope you enjoy.
All of Judith McKnaught's historicals. Start with Whitney, My Love. Also Kathleen Woodiwiss (everything).

Definitely read Kerrigan Byrne if you like morally grey people.
Love this video! I've got quite a few old school historicals on my shelf and this is just the push I needed to actually start reading them!
Yesss!! Go for it!
Just finished the secret and absolutely loved it! So good
Don’t you just want to binge read all the Julie Garwood old school romances now!? 😍😍

I actually have both Kerrigan Byrne's novels as ARCs but hadn't read them yet so I'm more excited now that I had heard your review.

New subscriber here. Julie Garwood needs to go back and revisit historicals! They are some of my favorites. She got me hooked on the genre.
I agree!! I would love some new historicals from her!
Thank you Lisa for show to this new generations books that show how good are historical books.

All Scot and Bothered looks sooo good omg 😭 the characters sound like Nina and Matthias from Six of Crows!
IT IS SOOOO GOOD 😩🙌🏼 I’ve never read SoC but now I might be interested 👀
Omg Nina and Matthias are my OTP. So I will pick this up aaack
Can you read it befor the first one, I mean "How to love a duke in 10 days"?

Enjoyed this video and going to check out Indigo. Historical romance is my thing except for the Scottish ones, just can’t seem to get into them.
Loved this video! 🙌 I need to read Scot and Bothered ASAP! A grumpy Scot? SIGN ME UP 😍 I literally added all of these to my TBR haha

I have the bride by Stephanie Laurens on my tbr!
The Secret sounds so good, an historical road trip sounds like a lot of fun. I’m going to look and see what I can track down by Julie Garwood🤎
Yesss please do, Bree!! Her older books are so beloved, so I’m sure whatever you find, you might enjoy!
I think you would enjoy reading my lady captor by Hannah Howell so good funny romantic has a little off everything.
I love the secret so much 😭❤️
oh my goddd it was everything!!! 😭🙌🏼
It's my mom favorite book and she was the one who recommended it to me ❤️
Beverly Jenkins is the QUEEN!!!
I still haven't read any of Julie Garwood's books 😬
Haha! I was pretty late to her too
Julie Garwood!!! Thank you! I basically just want to read all her historicals now 😂 I didn’t expect them to be so funny!
LACEY!!!
What we come contemporary books in other time these will be the historical.
Shadow Music is tragic--don't waste your time. I think Garwood farmed out the writing to another, rather poor, contract writer.
😂😭 that's... disappointing to hear
@@LaceyBooklovers I love Shadow Music though
