    Out of all the Monarchs Elizabeth I is my favorite. She was strong and ruled with her head not her heart. She knew the Tudor dynasty would end regardless rather with her or because of Marriage so she decided to be the virgin queen and never take a husband. That’s power and that made her a legacy.

    You have to love the irony of the Tudor family.
    People loved Kathrine of Aragon but most hated her daughter Mary. People hated Anne but most loved Elizabeth
    The son that Henry had to have is barely remembered but yet the daughter he shunned the most is the hair that he needed.
    I think that the reason she was such a successful queen is because she learned from her brother and sister mistakes.
    The biggest difference between Mary Stuart and Elizabeth is Mary ruled with heart not her head she was a woman before she was a ruler. Elizabeth was a ruler first and she ruled with her head.
    I honestly think the reason she never married was because she saw how her father wives were treated and because she was sexually abused by Tomas Seymour

      She also would not have wanted to share or give up that power. Elizabeth made sacrifices that Mary Stuart did not. You rightly said “ Mary ruled with her heart “first and Elizabeth with her head before her heart. Elizabeth also knew that naming a successor was like placing a target on your back because everyone runs after the heir.

    • @altinaykor364

      the bigger irony is that Elizabeth wasn't this huge hater of Mary Stuart as people think she was. Mary was actually her favorite choice as heir and she would chose her in a heartbeat over literally everyone else who were claiming the throne.

    They thing is, even if she would have birthed an heir, it would have ended the Tudor dynasty, as her husbands line would have become the dynastic name. Ex: Victoria was house of Hanover, but Edward VII was Saxe Coburg Gotha. Prince Philip, and lord Mountbatten, thought when Elizabeth II became queen the house name would change to Mountbatten. But, government stood up and made sure it stayed Windsor.

      Very right. I'd like to add. Elizabeth I did the best thing for herself and her time. I understand the logic. She would hold her position well and then, like a loving mother, see that things may be as orderly as possible by the time she passes away, i.e. passing her crown to James of Scotland.

    Either way the Tudor dynasty would've ended with Elizabeth. I believe this is the reason Elizabeth never married or had children...doing both would've meant her giving up power. I don't really blame her decision.

    Regarding the defeat of the Spanish Armada, one detail is very often overlooked and it's important because it provides a great deal of context for why it happened. While the galleon was the fastest ship of the time, the Spanish were not heading to English waters for a naval fight. Rather, they were on a mission to land on English soil with the goal of starting a land war.
    Two things worked marvelously in Elizabeth's favor. She had intelligence from Sir Francis Walsingham that her country was in danger of attack by the Spanish and therefore could prepare for it. And then the weather changed, miraculously, in favor of the English fleet and they were able to maneuver quickly and with more agility than the ill-equipped Armada, with Drake's command, and easily cause mass casualties along with what the weather had already done to the Spanish.
    Spain was completely unprepared to be caught off guard in the water before they'd made landfall. That's why the English were able to overtake them.

      Also, Drake was quick-witted, courageous, and a bit wild but not very reckless (at least in comparison to others who served the Queen). He and the naval commanders used everything they had to their advantage and then kept engaging until they made the Spanish essentially think the English were half demon creatures of the sea, chasing them down WITH FIRE - to the continent and some to the mists of the Scottish Sea.
      One of the things that has made me admire Elizabeth and get advisors most is their intelligence operations and utilizing psychology (whether they realized it beyond "human nature" or not)

    I'm from India 🇮🇳 and I have always admired and loved Queen Elizabeth 1 Tudor (aka The Virgin Queen and Good Queen Bess) and her legacy. She was a really powerful and a strong woman by all means. In this day and age, when feminism is rampant and has become toxic, there are a lot of wannabe women who portray themselves as strong and independent, which is sad. Well, here was Elizabeth 1, a truly strong woman, a real inspiration.

    Assuming that all of these accounts of history are truthful and taking them all at face value, we have much to learn from our history and must seek to apply these lessons from history to our current times and current situations - it also shows us that our history is complicated and intertwined with such things as religion, ie Catholic v Protestant and there are many lessons to be drawn from all of this history

    I really doubt Elizabeth could marry anyone, even if she wanted to
    all of her recognized suitors were either kings or princes from other foreign powerful dynasties and by accepting either of them, she would've been handing England over to a foreign monarchy (you lie if you say you can even imagine such a thing or at least imagine English at the time accepting such a fate) which isn't just strategic weakness, but contrasts to everything she dreamed about as a queen.
    in best case, she had to marry an ordinary English nobleman which would be far beneath her, but at that would be much more acceptable for people which leaves Robert Dudley, but of course, he was hated and a pariah among courtiers, so she and him were star-crossed lovers in every way imaginable and she definitely couldn't have marry a pirate. and by considering how much unwilling she was to be under control of a man (I mean look at how Mary I's marriage with Philip turned out and worse than that, the way Henry VIII, Elizabeth's god damn father treated his wives, including her mother) by all accounts getting married was just not meant to be for her. she didn't want it and neither did the nature and universe

    The Tudors had a weak claim to the throne which is why they had no other choice to take the crown in battle.

    • @iwatchthings231
      @iwatchthings231 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I agree. Their claim was pathetically weak. At least Richard York had a strong legitimate claim to the throne. Now, did he kill his nephews to get the throne? We still don’t know for certain conclusively, but it is certain that he was the rightful King of England.

    The narrator, and she is not alone in this , always describe the main characters,as " incredibly handsome"or" beautiful," .
    When,if their portraits are anything to go by, were pot ugly.
    Seems pyshophancy is ingrained in the English. For centuries. Maybe they are afraid they will get their heads chopped off if they tell the truth .

    • @juliepeters3716
      @juliepeters3716 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maybe the artists just weren't that good back then? Perhaps they were not capable of capturing a true likeness. I mean to be honest I think a lot of the portraits look very similar.

    • @ThomasAllan-up4td
      @ThomasAllan-up4td 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@juliepeters3716 maybe the artists were just too good at capturing their likeness. Henry 8 had Holbein repaint one of his too realistic portraits of himself, and his daughter Queen Elizabeth did much the same; ordering that no new portraits be shown of herself over the age of thirty. Wouldn't have mattered. She was still pock-marked, toothless and bald before she was thirty anyway.
      In truth, she looked as ugly on the outside as she was on the inside.
      A Tyrant.

      Yes, Mary Boleyn had two children (many say both were Henry VIII's children but neither were ever recognized) Catherine and Henry Carey. Catherine's daughter was a Lady of Elizabeth's household.

      It does not really matter he is still a male everyone would look up to him and he would still be a king a king consort but still just because he is male everyone would want him to rule over Elizabeth she played it smart refused to marry to give any man her power and position and refused children due to her fathers treatment of her mother and her stepmother.

    • @DolphineAchonga-gn6kn
      @DolphineAchonga-gn6kn ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There was a lot more at stake back then compared to Elizabeth's 2 century. Monarchs had a lot more political power then. Every one of noble birth wanted a piece of it. She couldn't trust anyone, least of all a princely husband. In a religiously divided country, she would have been at risk of being plotted against. The wrong ambitious, royal or noble husband, would have been the perfect figure head for potential plotters. This included other powerful monarchs who wanted to install their own puppets on the English throne . She couldn't trust anyone. Her choice gave her all the power and kept her on the throne for decades.

    • @AndreaDamery
      @AndreaDamery 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It’s not only important that she not marry because she would be married to a man (not a king, but one whom would be favored over her, as a man), to whom she would religiously be REQUIRED to FIRST obey, and fall in line with any and all her husband’s demands… before any of her demands as queen of England. That was the rule of her times by marriage and by rule as a monarch. This is far different from the laws of other queens beyond her time and beyond comprehension by leaders of today.

    • @juliepeters3716
      @juliepeters3716 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Elizabeth II was able to marry and keep her position as monarch because it was the 20th century and things had moved on. As head of a Constitutional Monarchy parliament insured whoever she married would not become monarch.
