Her life was not always sunshine and roses. She was a young girl during World War II. Britain was heavily bombed and even as that young girl spoke over the radio encouraging the people of Britain to have courage and determination to continue in the fight against the enemy. As a young woman she became an ambulance driver and learned to be a mechanic.
Queen Elizabeth not only walked the walk but did it with great courage and determination. I wonder how many of us today could take that same walk. How many of us have that same courage and determination? Queen Elizabeth earned her place in history as well as the place in our hearts.
I’m an American and I saw her Coronation as an elementary school girl. I’ve admired her because not only did she talk the talk but she also walked the walk. Never wavering from her path to good of the British and the Commonwealth. Definitely an icon and definitely someone to be admired.

It is absolutely arguable that she may have been the most influential person in the world, certainly the most famous. The clear takeaway from her life and times is that she understood duty and sacrifice, the burden of always setting an example that could be followed, from Prince to pauper. She lived by her own high standards with class and incredible dignity. There is no corner of this planet where she would go recognized, because of her example. Her place in history is assured.

And knew you didn't have to wear beige just because you were a senior citizen 😀!!! I loved that she wore beautiful bright colors, yes her styles reflected an older woman but color? Anything goes and she looked great in them & I can imagine if she was having a rotten day or something was in the paper defiantly wearing a brilliant yellow coat would really lift your spirits and subtly stick it to to a naysayer because she's totally fabulous.

I find it amazing that 3/4 of the world today has lived through this era of a great British Queen. She'll go down in history as one of the greatest rulers of all time. She did it with grace and the attitude of being a servant to her country. Her fashion is only a small part of who she was, but like everything else she did, she did it with aplomb.

The coronation dress was remarked to be like a radiator due to all the beading. When the HMTQ wore it in New Zealand to open parliament on tour in 1954, the combination of the humidity and bright spot lights that had been pointed directly at her for the entire service, including her 8 minute speech all gave off heat that was absorbed and trapped within the thousands of beads, especially the bodice which had not an inch that wasn't covered in these heat radiating beads.
On top of this she wore the heavy Kokoshnik Tiara for the first time as well as the massive 26-diamond coronation necklace in its most full form, complete with the resplendent Lahore diamond, in the form of dazzling 23 carat pendant - which in terms of diamond necklaces it is best described as a collar of boulders.
All of this capped off with (of course) bicep length white satin opera gloves, a pristine white mink Fur stole, draped over her shoulders, and a kilo of various booches and orders pinned to her diplomatic satin sash leaving not a square inch unadorned; thus providing even more insulation for Her Majesty.
Truly a weighty and evidently thermal ensemble. However, true to form, the Queen didn't even so much as waiver nor shed a drop of perspiration throughout her smooth and steady execution of her duties that HOT day in New Zealand.

@@redfire20003 I don't criticise neither Angela Kelly, nor the late Queen's dressing style. They both did what they had to do under the given circumstances which weren't easy to navigate. In her youth the late Queen was an outstanding beauty like her younger sister, and she matured gracefully into a lovely elderly lady. She has created a recognizable royal English style which was neither old-fashioned (or frumpy as you call it) nor too modern. Infact she has created something fairy-tale like, she seemed to have emerged from another dimension like a character from a novel, yet in her private life she was a quite down-to- earth country lady with a sense for a practical and classical wardrobe. What I don't like about this feature here is that they don't get to analyze what was interesting and special about the Queen's wardrobe, it is just a general praise because that's the way royalist people are supposed to talk about her.

I'm a proud, black Christian man who has lived in the United States all my life. But I've been a big fan of the British royal family for over 20 years. That happened mostly after the tragic death of the late, great Princess Diana. But I've been a big admirer of Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and quite naturally Queen Elizabeth I l 👑. Oh what a beautiful, wonderful, awesome, and extraordinary woman she was. I wish that I could have had the chance to meet her. And her husband and consort, Prince Philip, the Prince Consort, and Duke of Edinburgh. I was gonna visit both London and Paris in 1985. But I changed my mind, because I was moving and couldn't afford to move and take a trip like that. An old friend of mine, and possibly my father. Felt that I was in no position to take a trip like that. Because I had ran up some credit cards 💳. Whern I look back 🔙. There were other times after that. That i could have visited at least London. And now I wish I had. Well, RIP to the beautiful Queen Elizabeth I l 👑. God bless the newly crowned King Charles I ll 👑, and his country, family, and all the other lands that he is the king 👑 over!

Thank you - this was very well done! I remember seeing the Queen when I was a little girl in Fredericton, NB, Canada. Even though this was during the 1970’s - an era not known for great fashion - Her Majesty looked stunning in her day look and then again later, in her ball gown in the evening. I was too small to be able to push to the front so I never met her, but I could see that her smile was so much more electric than I saw on tv as she climbed the stairs to the building where the reception was being held. I was gutted when we lost her as it was clear to everyone that we had just lost so much more than a person.

She was someone who loved color, she was blessed to do well wearing many different shades and hues of a variety of colors. It’s funny as she maintained a mixture of different facet of her personality, stoicism, elegance, charming, a witty sense of humor, humble, graceful, smart, … and her wardrobe over the years demonstrated each of these qualities while remaining polished and timeless. In the end, she pulled it off to be able to gently stand out of the crowd for the pride of her nation as the forefront of her mindset, while representing the core of being British.

I know she's gone now, but I still love how Queen Elizabeth II used to dress. Her Majesty dressed with such class and even showed a touch of whimsical style too. She made me love fashion more, to be honest.

My older sister and i dressed like twins when we were little. She is four tears older than me so inevitably she wanted to dress like a teenager. I remember crying my eyes out the first Sunday we went to church in different dresses. My sister is the single greatest influence on my life. I can really relate to QE and PM. This past Christmas i gifted my sister a sweet photograph of them in an ornate frame. She keeps it on her bedside table. ❤️ God rest the souls of those beautiful sisters.

Queen Elizabeth 11 reigned over the UK and the Commanwealth with an amazing fortitude being seen by her public was so important to her it was not a vain thing she wanted her subjects to see her and her wonderful outfits showed this, didn’t matter who she was there to see she made sure her people saw her. We will probably never see a reign like she had again.

I imagine there were some days when Queen Elizabeth II would have liked to have "dressed up" in jeans, maybe. Although nothing beats wearing a frock especially designed for you.
