Chappell Roan was backup vocals on Olivia's album "Guts" in 3 songs "bad idea right, lacy, obsessed" she was also in the hunger games song "can't catch me now" also backup vocals for Olivia.

When she wrote California (lyrics btw are a nod to and reversal of a Mamas and the Papas song from the 1960s) in spring 2020, Pink Pony Club had just been released but the covid lockdown squelched it being used in clubs, it wasn't making money, and Chappell foresaw her recording contract to be in trouble. Also her relationship with her longterm bf was souring; he'd throw her out within a few months (see Kink is Karma). She was depressed. * Rabbits aren't new. They're (usually, I think) small or smallish, and are the ones with two little projections that you put... well, you can figure it out. The little projections are thought to resemble rabbit ears.
The song California was written by Chappelle after she was discovered by the record company Atlantic and signed with it. Chappelle moved to California, but they abandoned her in 2020 when her song Pink Pony Club did not succeed. Chappelle wrote the song in 2020 after the company abandoned her
