"when you wake up next to him in the middle of the night, with your head in your hands, you're nothing more than his wife" ...goes SO HARD. the internalized homophobia flashbacks are real lmao
In an interview with Elton John(!!!!!), Chappell said she wrote pink pony club after going to a gay bar, having some kind of spiritual experience being there, and being enamoured with the go-go dancers.
ok but you NEED to see the pink pony club transition videos where they go from young chappell singing it for a small audience to her on stage with the whole crowd screaming it with her

So refreshing to see a man accurately analyze good luck babe! I’ve seen so many reactions of men kind of erasing or not acknowledging her identity when it’s so important to her artistry
i knew you were gonna cry as soon as you said pink pony club. It's such an emotional piece while also being a celebration of queerness. One of my favorites from her. I can't wait for her to come out for more from her in the future and I'm glad you've joined the fan train!
omg yes, chappell does such a good job of capturing both the joy of being yourself and the grief that comes when that authenticity impacts important relationships. like, is it worth it? absolutely. but it can hurt!
52-year-old straight male here, tearing up as each moment hit you. This video articulated why she’s hitting so hard right now in a way I couldn’t explain. Its honesty is brutal. It’s wrapped in much-needed bubblegum. It’s delivered with force and raw talent. It’s undeniable. Thank you for sharing your experience with it! Perfection.

Hah, YES, I'd say "snarky" is a fantastic descriptor for a lot of Chappell's writing! Still human, still emotional, still a bop - but with this prickly, campy, almost jokey twist that brings it all together in such a unique and satisfying way. SO happy you've finally started discovering her music! :)
I literally cry when I hear good luck babe and pink pony club (I told you so and girls and boys can be queens) just melt me. I saw her live in concert and she blew the roof off, my voice is raw from yelling, she speaks out loud in her show that everyone is welcome, no matter who or where they are. She says she wishes she had this community when she was 14. She is lightning in a bottle live, such an amazing voice. I cried at her concert, if you follow her story her dreams were crushed, youtube singles at 14, got a label and dropped in like a month. Had to rebuild and work odd jobs. All signs points towards a flop, but she persevered when I would not have, and now she is huge with a diehard fan base.
Her song Kaleidoscope DESTROYS in the best possible way... My great love since I was a teenager and I never had a song that fit our experiences together, but this one, over the decades it connected all our loves of each other and how they changed and how it was beautiful and strange and every day... As shared before in the comments, the Pink Pony Club is not a specific place, Chappell made it after her first experience at a gay bar. I can't remember where but since having a boom in popularity, she has said that she's made each and every concert of hers the Pink Pony Club, she has local drag performers open her shows, each show has a particular theme that she announces online a few months before, and her audience is predominantly queer people. I was lucky to go to one of her shows before the "big boom" (just two weeks before Good Luck Babe released and her Coachella show). It was truly magical and felt like such a safe place to let loose, have fun, party, and unapologetically be myself.
Just heard of Chappel Roan, listened to the album last night and now I'm watching reactions to it cuz I'm obsessed! You're so real for crying at Pink Pony Club, I ugly cried and sent it to my mom immediately. She loved it too! That one and the music video to Casual got me good!
Losing your mind emotionally to 'Pink Pony Club' seems to be such a shared experience between almost everyone I've seen react to it. I love that for you so much. I also love how you broke down all of the music and the lyrics and this was just great! Anddddd subscribed.
I listened to 'Pink Pony Club' before seeing the video, so I already knew that I loved the song, but watching the video, ESPECIALLY when the Drag Queen and Leather Boys showed up shattered a part of myself that had been walled in for a bit. Queer Joy as self love as an act of Rebellion is so, so, so important and I think it's one of the few forms of Queer expression that gets ignored, but it's so important and also knowing that the video is 4 years old makes it all even better.

New subscriber based on your reaction Bill. As a 40 yo gay man living in Boston but from a VERY small town, I had the exact same reaction to Pink Pony Club. It means something to so many queer people, but mostly it just touched on my gayest heartstring that even if our family is accepting (which mine is and was), there is so much fear instilled in us and that fear is so bonding. It takes serious courage to be who we are and it’s so beautiful to hear someone write how my heart feels all these years after coming out. It’s so, SO needed and appreciated. Take care. ❤❤❤
"Pink Pony Club" was my first introduction to Chappelle, and YES my reaction was very similar to yours. I'm seeing her in September in Berlin. Can't wait. I hear she's totally bonkers & amazing live.
I sobbed uncontrollably the first time I heard/watched pink pony club. It hits you so hard. My friend was like that made you cry? And I was like girl, you don’t understand and that’s fine lol but it was a spiritual experience for me 😂
Omg yes! Part 2 recommendations: Casual, California, Femininominon, Naked in Manhattan, Kaleidoscope - her whole tiny desk concert is also unbelievably great
Chappel is amazing. All of her shows are themed! And she invites local drag queens to open her shows. And she donates part of the money to local charities and the charity "for the gurls". She has also been raising money for palestine and raising awarness. She gives back to the queer community in so many ways. A part two would awesome. Casual, california, coffee and kaleidoscope especially will have you in tears. But naked in manhattan, femininomenon, super graphic ultra modern girl, guilty pleasure, and after midnight will bring the mood right back up. Also watch some of her tiktoks shes hilarious. Oh and My kink is karma live is a different world. Just watching her preform that song live even recorded makes me gay panic. Shes incredible.
I'm deep in my obsession with Chappell Roan. I am so thrilled to be kicking off pride month with this video. Cheers to offline Bill (and honestly me too) belting these songs all month long! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
I would really love to see you react to some of her live performances, the tiny desk is great for hearing her vocals but her energy on stage in general is magical
I've been mainlining Chappel Roan all week, so YT gave me your video, and I'm glad it did. Loving your take on things, and watching for the joy when you first hear a bit I love.

i'm so late to this one but, fantastic video! hearing you so quickly attach to music i like and have such fantastic insightful thoughts so immediately is fascinating. you're genuinely talented at analysis. you're one of my favorite youtubers out there for exactly these kinds of videos not as long a comment as normal but i could absolutely run through this whole video and praise all your commentary, but it's early in my timezone and i want to comment before i forget. love your stuff. you're an artist
“Good Luck Babe” is one of the best songs to completely and succinctly tackle the experience of walking away from a toxic relationship with a closeted person I have ever heard in my entire life. I was hooked. And then I found her album and it was quite literally life changing.
I’m actually shocked at myself for how wrapped up into Chappel Roan I’ve gotten. She really is just that good. She is powerful living queer representation with extreme talent. Her music makes me feel things.
First time I’m seeing your content and I’m obsessed with the way you had so much to say and it was so concise and was new points of view I hadn’t even thought of. Like the fact this breakdown is a bit over 20 minutes but I was brought new perspectives is fantastic. Keep it up friend! What you stand for throughout this video is also so important, so thank you 💜

Chappell brought me back and I’m about to go and catch up on the videos I missed. Thanks so much for working hard to create a space meant for love, acceptance, kindness, compassion, and comfort. It’s so, SO needed and appreciated. Take care. ❤❤❤
that genuinely means the world to me :')
@@thethirdbill Aww, this reply made my day. 🥹❤
And I was like girl, you don’t understand and that’s fine lol but it was a spiritual experience for me 😂
I was just introduced to her music a couple days ago, and I am totally here for more from her. Be yourself above everything. Love you, man!
Your channel was not what I expected. A lovely, safe surprise. Thank you. Just subscribed.
I really enjoyed this video. Your thoughts were very insightful, compassionate, and empathetic. You're doing good work
Omg yes! Part 2 recommendations: Casual, California, Femininominon, Naked in Manhattan, Kaleidoscope - her whole tiny desk concert is also unbelievably great
everyone is asking for other songs and i agree but at this point just listen to the rest of the rise and fall of a midwest princess.
This notification coming up in work and my face lighting up Oh i was READY for this
I would really love to see you react to some of her live performances, the tiny desk is great for hearing her vocals but her energy on stage in general is magical
Pink Pony Club made me cry hard, too. It's so relatable.
I've been mainlining Chappel Roan all week, so YT gave me your video, and I'm glad it did. Loving your take on things, and watching for the joy when you first hear a bit I love.
I literally teared up at the same time you did, and I've heard Pink Pony Club several times. It still has an emotional impact on me after hearing it tons of times. I relate to that song way too hard
I appreciate all the work you do to support charity and give out resources
i'm so late to this one but, fantastic video!
hearing you so quickly attach to music i like and have such fantastic insightful thoughts so immediately is fascinating. you're genuinely talented at analysis. you're one of my favorite youtubers out there for exactly these kinds of videos
not as long a comment as normal but i could absolutely run through this whole video and praise all your commentary, but it's early in my timezone and i want to comment before i forget. love your stuff. you're an artist
:')
You drew me in with the sick posters in the background and listening to my new favorite singer
That super sick now you see me reference got me to subscribe 😂 awesome review!
lol i hope thats true!
I'm making my rounds watching people fall in love with her after finally giving in and stanning, and I'm subscribed now. You have great vibes!
I hear you on what you said about the fun music plus depressing lyrics, it's a god tier combo
I really enjoyed this video. Your reactions were awesome. So real.
“Good Luck Babe” is one of the best songs to completely and succinctly tackle the experience of walking away from a toxic relationship with a closeted person I have ever heard in my entire life. I was hooked. And then I found her album and it was quite literally life changing.
I would love to see a Trying to Stan video on Nerdy Prudes Must Die!! I recently watched this musical and it has been stuck in my head ever since
BIIIH!!! I WAS CRYING WOTH YOUU! Yay emotions ❤🎉❤
I’m glad you gave so much love to MKIK - this is my favorite song and so overlooked by so many ppl.
