  • Customer complaint is that the muffler is loose. Lets look at this common problem and see why we can't just crank the muffler back down again. We will also look at how a long screwdriver can be handy. #smallenginerepair

The Husky 55 chainsaw is a classic, good to see one you the bench. I have one that followed me through "thick-n-thin" and it is scheduled on my bench to replace the cylinder with a Hyway kit. I sure don't miss that chain tightening bolt tucked inconveniently on the inside of the clutch cover. My conspiracy theory was that some patent had run out and that is why we don't see that design anymore, LOL.

It was simpler from a design standpoint with no right angle drive. Simpler isn't always better.

Interesting exhaust mounting bolt system. Looks like a well used saw.

I think the gasketsbreak down leaving the muffler loose.

Nice Repair As Always Brother I Loved How You Said Finding Another Donor Muffler Is Not an Issue Then You Took The Muffler off The Donor Saw and Tossed The Donor Saw in a Mountain of Saws 😀😊 That’s How I Am I Keep The Blown Saws That Everything Else is Good For Hard to Find or Obsolete Parts 😀😇😀 Nice 👍🏼

We had a parts shelf tip over the other day. What used to be a semi organized mess turned into a massive pile of mixed parts. A lot of stuff was tossed because the time needed to id it would have been more that the parts were worth. Stuff happens.

@@TheGreasyShopRag That’s a Bummer Indeed Especially If it Was All Organized

While dressing the 445 Husqvarna bar I noticed it was laminated. Over half the oil holes were blocked. Going to see what happens after drilling them whole.

Schmutz! My favorite small engine term! I charge 1/2 hour to clean all the Schmutz off a dirty chainsaw. Especially the million little holes in recoil covers!

Sometimes I think they bring me perfectly good runners just to be cleaned. It pays the bills.

A lot of great information, as always! Deep. Walker had one recently or he had to file the face down and alter the bolts a little to keep them from rotating. Thanks for everything have a good day

I'll have to look for that one. Theres a lot of chainsaw video channels out there. Hard to keep up.

Hey, Scott! Looks like I’ll have to consult The Greasy Shop Rag Glossary to check on the definitions of “meltage” and “schmutz”. 😉😂
I’d be inclined to use some threadlocker on those nuts to prevent a recurrence. This is my opportunity to try out the newer gel-types because I don’t have a high temp one.

Those nuts have a micro slit in them making them a sort of lock nut. They hold ok and I think the real problem is deteriorating muffler gaskets.

Hey man, I have a 550xp mark II. I bought it second hand because it had no spark and it looks brand new. I took it to a shop and they have had it for awhile. They said they cant do anything till husqvarna gives them a factory update and theres no telling when that would be. Would you say they are full of crap, i figured it would be a bad coil and they could just program a new one to it. Thanks for any input, it just proves you can't beat old saws.

The 550 MK II has a new coil part number. I would think that number has been updated in the programming software but I'm not sure because I haven't looked recently. That could be what they are waiting on.
