It went from an unflyable to barely matching industry standard transmission. I’m glad it’s reached this level now, but that lack of controller integration and trash 2nd hand Parrot controller has got to go. Hopefully Skydio 3 will have more emphasis on actual controller.
Unflyable? That’s a stout statement. One would think Skydio would have failed completely as a company with their principle product unable to work. Does its blight pertain to line-of-sight?

Wow, I’ve got the one and I hardly have used it. I can’t afford to upgrade (retired) but hearing the key frame update. The battery is awesome. Interchangeable. Radio , oh well
Thanks BK. I am going to buy another drone, when I can resume some training after the next 3 months. I'm glad to see the SKYDIO being so improved so much, plus offering the backward compatibility. That is very impressive, as you don't see that often enough in any industry. I'm glad I have another 3 months to consider.
Hello, Billy, wishing you a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year. It looks like Skydio listened to their customer base, added new features, and updated others. The only item I wish they would have upgraded was the camera sensor. It looks like Skydio is staying grounded with their pricing too. Thank you for the excellent overview and review of the new Skydio 2+ drone. I'll be watching for your inspection and testing of the Key Frame video and seeing the quality of the images. Thank you and Take Care!
Another great vid billy Da kid just kidding bro hey great vid again hope you had a great new years my friend so my question what does ol ken think of it too you know how he likes to knick pick ? Any way have a great day buddy🙏🙏👍
Thanks Billy for your review. As a M2P owner, I've been sitting on the fence about buying a Skydio 2 but the Plus is pulling me to that side of the fence. I especially would use the new Keyframe (wavepoint) feature.
Hi Billy, thanks for the info. Im about to get one, just for tracking use. I have a DJI for long distance. Im thinking to get the Skydio 2, my question is Whats the diff between beacon 1 and 2 ? For autonomous tracking ? Thanks :)
Great video and review, however I do have a question: How does the Skydio 2 do over water with the OA? Most do not handle water well and you have to usually turn it off. I will be using my drone over water with my boat a lot.
i don't fly my Skydio 2 over big bodies of water because it makes me super nervous (weird, because the Skydio 2 is so good at obstacle avoidance that I normally don't have any fear of flying it) but they did talk about how they improved performance over water and indoors. can't wait to see if this is the case!
OK. So I'm kind of viewing your videos in reverse! Haha! So now it is confirmed that the controller has not been upgraded. And as far as the range goes, well you proved it. It's not perfect but much better. As I said in your first manual flight video I agree that I'm more about video smoothness and consistency rather than range. And this "upgrade" has that! I use quotes because it really isn't an upgrade in my opinion because it requires a completely new drone. Thank you for another good set of review videos!
Nothing can beat skydio in terms of tracking! I would buy the skydio plus if it has a better controller, better app and is suitable with flying it as a normal drone like the mavic series.
Great review Billy. Love my Skydio 2, I have prety much everything, but do you think it would be worth upgrading to the new Shydio 2+, that's the big '??'. I have my DJI drones but have been flying the Skydio 2 more lately. I like the video better. I do fly with the controller quite a bit so I don't know??
Great review as always. I currently own 5 DJI drones including the Mavic 3. I nave been looking at this drone for a while and been wondering how this would fit in my real estate shoots and photography business. How is the Photo quality? Does it shoot raw? Or is this just a video drone? How does the obstacle avoidance compare to DJI’s? Would you say the 4K video quality is pretty good as well?
I have owned basically all pro versions of the phantoms, and right now I have the Mavic 2 Pro and the Air 2S. I also have had the Skydio 2 for over two years now, and even though I am very impressed with the obstacle avoidance, I almost never use it, unless I have to shoot some action scenes where I have to fly backwards/sideways or just have it to follow someone autonomously. I think that DJI is lightyears ahead when it comes to user interface, and that the startup process takes too long. The connection is not very stable, and this drone kind of lives it's own life. It shoots in RAW, but if you have a Mavic 3, I think that you won't be impressed with the image quality of the Skydio 2, even if it is decent. But if I had to choose between shooting photos with the Skydio 2 and basically any of the DJI drones for the rest of my life, I would pick the DJI drone. I also think that it only shoots good video and photos in very good daylight. But as soon as there is an overcast, or close to dusk/dawn, I would say that the footage gets grainy really fast. But if you also shoot video for real estate, then the Skydio 2 or 2+ might be a game changer for you. I haven't tried the keyframes function yet, but that would defenetly open up some doors to creative shots, and you can trust the obstacle avoidance system to have your back in 98% of the situations. With the Mavic 2 Pro or even the Mavic 3 (Even though we haven't seen the promised firmware update yet), I still wouldn't trust it enough to fly backwards or sideways without actually looking at the drone constantly. It could be me that has gotten a faulty drone, but this is at least my point of view. I hope it helps you in any way :)
And yeah, I totally forgot to mention that the controller is a piece of plastic crap :) My phone constantly keeps popping out of the holder, and it looks and feel like the controller for a toy drone. But the beacon is pretty cool where you basically can drag and drop the drone in the sky and place it wherever you want :)
Jose, my take on your questions. The Skydio 2+ takes 12MP raw stills. The quality, always a subjective value, is quite good. The obstacle avoidance is superior to DJI, and any other drone on the market. That's really what Skydio is none for. The 4K quality is excellent, very clear and a bit on the vivid side, which many people really like. The only drawback is the range. However, the new antenna and transmission system is a BIG improvement and, as Billy noted, this update has really moved this drone into the consumer "flyable" drone category. It's not just a 'follow me" drone anymore. Is this drone right for you? If you're not planning on flying big distances and could benefit from superior obstacle avoidance, this could the drone for you.
I love my Skydio 2 but man, I can't wait for this 2+! So I don't need a new controller to get the improved range? After having a Skydio 2, multiple batteries, the controller, and the beacon, I wasn't looking forward to upgrading everything. But know that I can reuse the batteries and the controller and still get improvements, I'm there! I'll buy the beacon+ begrudgingly but it feels good that I can get improvements while not buying a lot of new equipment.
Great improvement for Skydio in the right direction. I would like to see a new and improved controller with a display on it for basic reading and more powerful antenna and radio...Also offer a 360deg video and photo as a feature for the price of a 360deg camera $300-400 ... Another feature would be to unlock night flying...
So my thing is, do I stick with my old S2 and take advantage of the Keyframe and new batteries ?? I use my M2P for distance flights. Or, do I contact Skydio to see if I can buy a stand alone S2+ and a new beacon ?? If they would even do that. I think the M3P is overpriced.
Not a big fan of the rabbit ear antennas sticking up from a drone...it seems dji & autel can go further with invisible antennas. Has Skydio gave an explanation yet for using rabbit ears instead of internal antennas?
The Skydio has two internal antennas already. This new design is a compromise to improve the range without releasing a whole new drone. Look for an array of hidden antennas when the Skydio 3 finally arrives
@@xSaladShooterx i don't anticipate a skydio 3 until the pandemic is over. it's already so hard for all the manufacturers (from cars to computers to even basic items) to release products with all the materials shortage and logistical problems.

I feel like the Skydio drone footage was really washed out. Like it had a lot of pixel buffering. Is that the drone or just TH-cam? Your footage in front of the camera is great but then the drone footage was very pixelated.
That's good and all, but I'm not wasting any more money on Skydio. I bought the Skydio 2 and don't really like using it. It is hard, since I am used to my Mavic Pro 2 and takes some learning. I live on Okinawa, and we have a lot of jungle here. The Skydio 2 is always getting stuck and I have to go back and get it. I don't feel comfortable with it doing whatever it wants. I know how to set it up and all. I just don't have an interest in putting more money into it, right now.
Probably the reason they don't fold up is because that could mess with the rigidity and positioning of the cameras, which could mess up obstacle avoidance.
Do you want to buy a drone that flies just 24 minutes knowing that for the same price you can buy an Altel or DJI drone that flies 40 and even 46 minutes?
