    A few tips: mount your beacon on your handlebar, tracking from the back, right back, and left back is more reliable than tracking from the front, when flying in the forest you need to set it to high so that it can fly over the trees, learn how to hand launch.

    • @LiveLikePete

      I didn't have a mount for the handlebar otherwise I would have. I have one now so definitely next trip out I'll use it. Good tips! Thanks!

      @@LiveLikePete handle bar mounts are fine, but you still block quite a lot of signal with your body, especially if you ride high or go down hill.
      So the more challenging the situation gets (bad weather like fog or cloud cover, high terrain, trees) the more difference you would get by putting it on the top of your helmet :)

    Used the Skydio 2 with the beacon 2 and found it lacking for tracking me on my dirt bike through the woods. Upgraded to a becon 2+: the difference is phenominal. Just shot a vid on my channel where it tracks me almost faultlessly for 20km through fairly heavily wooded trails. Had it set low, behind, worked a treat. Cheers.

      @LiveLikePete  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear. This was the only issue I ever had with the tracking on my bike. It was also my first flight. I may upgrade to the 2+ beacon eventually but lately it's been tracking awesome. Maybe the firmware updates have helped.

  • @Liberty4Ever

    As an engineer, I'm amazed at how people take technology for granted. In Futureshock, Alvin Tofler was concerned that exponential technological growth would exceed linear human ability to accept new technology. We're living in that future and humans always expect more. The Skydio drone is PFM (pure f'n magic) and most people's response is, "It's way better than the best human pilot could do, but it it should be God-like so there is still room for improvement." As an engineer and a pilot, I'm very impressed! However, I haven't played video games since the 80s so that limits my technology expectations.

  • @RaidenPhotos
    @RaidenPhotos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    id say aside from picking a more visible external place to mount the beacon instead of a pocket, the best thing to do is to not used a fixed tracking mode when in a dense area because you're basically telling the drone to limit its options for avoiding an obstacle. so its more likely to stop moving than it is to work its way around a problem.

    A couple of tips - I just about always have it track me either behind my motorcycle, or behind me and to one side or the other. I understand that when it is flying forward, it uses the main camera for obstacle avoidance, in addition to the 6 OA cameras. So I think it is better able to see the small branches and things. The other nice thing about this camera angle is that, if you hit a straight, open section, you can ride as fast as you want, and if you outrun the speed of the drone, you will get AMAZING video of yourself riding off into the distance. (It is pretty good about catching up to you.) Another tip is that, while I am using the beacon to do the actual communicating with the drone, I have my phone wifi logged into the beacon's signal. I have my phone on a handlebar mount. So I get the extended range of the beacon, but the user-interface of the phone is also available. It is also handy to be able to glance down at the phone and, if I see myself, I know the drone is following me and all is OK. These tricks allow me to be (mostly) focused on my riding, and as a result, get some really good footage.

      Thanks Dave. Those are all some fantastic tips, all of which I've learned since making this video. 😆 This was basically my first flight. I actually touch base on a few of those pointers in my drone-moto setup video. th-cam.com/video/sb9ljiqI4b8/w-d-xo.html I've learned a lot riding and flying this drone on the bike. It's pretty amazing what it can capture and lots of fun doing it.

    After your 2nd take off in a ploom of dust, I couldn't watch it any more. The LENSES are important. They need to SEE the tree limbs. There is even a soft cloth included with the drone. Taking off in the middle of a dust devil as I saw you do it... twice and not even 1/2 way though the video is something you need to learn yourself! Take off from a clean flat place OR EVEN HAND LAUNCH to keep the lenese from getting a layer of dust all over them. I tested mine first time in the late fall and it had no problems seeing thin branches. Mine if dodged the two thin power lines that cross my driveway. One about 2ft higher than the other. Taking off in the dust storms the drone kicks up is like you riding with mud covered goggles. ;-)

      This was my first flight with it...2 1/2 years ago. If you actually watched the whole video, you would have seen me mention what I learned. Try not to be such a know it all next time. You are assuming quite a bit in your comment and your arrogance is very off-putting. And relax with the exclamation points!!!! Jeez dude

      It definitely does, especially if you get going faster than it can fly. That's the position they recommend most for tracking.

      I ran some tests yesterday with mine (Although no trees) and it was able to keep up at 25-30mph pretty darn good in any position. Motion tracking and fixed tracking seem to work best for keeping pace. Think about using the fixed tracking mode when you want it to stay on one side in order to not cast drone shadows. Forget about orbit mode at those speeds. Still learning but that thing is amazing. The few of us that have these are getting the best footage of anyone for at least until more users get this tech.

      Agreed’ hand launching it when it’s facing away from you. It launches and does a 180° turn to lock onto the user. Makes a huge difference to lock onto the user instead of it work extremely hard to gps track alone. I’m sure you learned this by now. Have fun out there. It’s an awesome drone
