Well, I gotta say, little surprised to see pixellation so early in your flight. I am going to give Skydio the benefit of the doubt in that you may have been in a high interference area. But .... you definitely pulled your punches.
I think your weakest link in your "new improve" transmission feed is your patch antenna on the Anafi controller. It forces you to point at the quad all the time in a very linear fashion. Thanks for the video Billy.
@Skydio Seriously dudes... get skydio fanboys a much needed radio. You already have one for the x2 so just port it over. You know you can, you know you want to, you know people want it... just do it. Insert meme of Shia Lebouf.
I have a DJI Air 2S (6km real world), a DJI FPV 4km real world) and a Chimera 7 FPV drone (7km range). I was considering the Skydio 2+ (because of the autonomous and keyframes) until I saw this video. The range is completely unacceptable if you are a videographer that does more than film houses. Also, I like your narrative, but you should call it like it is on the range, that it is a complete failure for a refresh or an upgrade. I will now be waiting to see if they can figure out the controller and range.
It seems like Skydio is trying to make their drone more friendly to the typical camera drone flyer, and not just a track and avoid drone. Great review Billy, thanks for sharing.
I remember last year I heard or read about a new Skydio drone that was only available for special Black Ops or something. Only for government use. And the drone was black as well. Did you hear about that drone?
Great first flight review, Billy. Skydio really need to develop a version of a smart controller, similar to DJI and Autel have done for their respective drone ranges. The licensed Parrot controller as you stated numerous times is not suitable for the ability of the Skydio 2 and 2+ drones. Skydio must be applauded for making some of the new features of the 2+ along with the increased capacity batteries backwards compatible with the original Skydio 2 drone.
OK. I just asked in your tracking video if the controller was the same or not. It seems it is the same. In terms of range, I completely agree, I am more about clarity and consistency rather than actual range as in distance. And unfortunately, while it may be slightly better I still feel the video transmission is not giving the smooth, unbroken video transmission. The battery is what I'm impressed with but they really need to fix the transmission. Don't forget about the Boost Button to instantly speed it up. I don't mind the controller. It's not the best but it isn't horrible for me. One thing Iike is an up/down gimbal paddle for camer tilt rather than a left/right wheel control. This is one reason I still use my Yuneec Typhoon H Plus for my pro shots. An up/down paddle is just much more intuitive. Anyway, looking forward to more about this!
Love your videos on Skydio. Would you consider doing a new "25 Tips" Video now 2 years later and a new drone. Curious how RTH, Manual Controller response etc. is now. Thanks
Thanks Billy I had a Skydio 2 this is a half done refresh pixelation so early it's no better than the first one in my opinion thanks for the review I will not be buying a Skydio again I need a little range waiting on the mini 3. And that junkie parrot controller that's embarrassing it's still only a follow me toy not a real drone just saying as always great review thank you
Every Skydio view I watch, the image on the phone is always jittery and pixelated, even when just a few dozen feet away. What's up with that??? I gotta say it does seem a little bias to have it skipping frames like crazy and say that it's just fine. It's a $1.000 drone, it shouldn't be that much worse than a Mini 2 at half the price..... Kinda funny to keep insisting on being a stickler for a good transmission system while saying "signal is just fine" while it's lagging like crazy.... No offense Billy, I love your videos but this one does feel quite a bit sponsored....
I don't think this drone can be use in the city - maximum distance might be up to 200 feet until you see the video feed gets pixelated. I wouldn't use it for real estate or any commercial work. Good for a beginner. Thanks for the review!
Thanks. Good review, detailed information. But... it's not ready yet. DJI & Autel data transmission is far superior. As always, if you want a drone that is used primarily for tracking then this is the one. Other than that, stick with DJI. Thanks again!
Thank you Sir! I was just thinking that. There must a reason that this drone is not a big success globally.

The skydio seems good but the transmission got me (a DJI Mavic 2 owner) laughing so hard. Sorry it’s so bad lol. It is likely that it won’t stand a chance in Hong Kong SAR where the Rf environment is even more complex
Nice review Billy! But controller sucks. If @Skydio would go to all of these effort to upgrade their com system on drone and beacon but they leave a bad aftertaste with the controller...why?
I just ordered controller for my Skydio 2 drone. I got this to extend the range of the drone- as this has been tough using my phone and getting limited range and not saving my video footage. One question - with the drone being farther away w the added distance from controller - will I be able to press the vortex, orbit, etc and access the camera from my phone still?? Was concerned b/c without the remote, the drone doesn’t go very far. ***And I want to be able to control the shots w my phone while it is out at longer ranges. *** Hope that makes sense
Nice video Billy. I got a Skydio 2 last year and love it for autonomous flying. However I am looking for a cost effective camera drone to learn manual flying. Do you have any recommendations?
So.... To get the video off the sd card, you have to have a laptop/computer? Or can you use your phone to connect to drone via wifi and download the footage? I haven't had a computer in years, I operate everything from my phone. This would be a bummer if I can not download wirelessly.
Hi Billy , great review, but I am now worried , I have my mavic 3 which is a game changer, and cy the looks of the controller , i think what you said on your first video on the original skydio " it does not fly like a DJI ! "
Be nice to see how well it does with a android cell phone. And maybe just maybe you’d have better monitor picture without screen recording taxing the cpu.
Quite frankly the signal to the phone is shockingly bad compared to a DJI drone, even at less than 400 feet away it was choppy, I've watched you go way way down that river with other drones and have perfect reception, bit disappointed although I'm in Ireland so it's not like I can buy it anyway but I'd have expected much better from a new drone thats new feature, along with key frames, is better range.
I use my DJI drones in the city, and the maximum range is up to 2,500 feet until I see issues with the transmission. Maybe less depending the area in the city, if you know you your way around.
@@YonnBurgos yeah I have the Mavic Air 2, DJI fpv and Mavic 3 and the range and connection to my phone is fantastic, I know Skydio is the industry leader in automation but I'd still expect a lot better in terms of signal.
Hey Billy, thanks for your honest and insightful manual flight. The only thing that you brought up, and several times, was the pixelation as you flew further out, that is a shame. I’d hoped that the new transmission would have also enabled a stronger signal. Thank you!
I really want to buy this drone but living in Canada I have a hard time paying over $3,000 for a drone with such poor video transmission and controller. It doesn't make any sense to have such a great tech drone and such a poor controller. I guess Air2S it is.
This goes tonsay every tool has its job. If it's self flying and followe capabilities this is it. If it's for DJI camera platform experiences then get a DJI 🤣.
The transmission is completely bs sry to say. I would really which to buy one because of its obstacle avoidance but I would need better transmission and a 1 inch sensor…. Pretty sad to see, that you say the feed is nice and clean and everybody sees, that it’s choppy and pixelated! So stay honest or viewers like me will leave your channel because it’s just a commercial…
Signal appears horrible and it seems you are trying your best to be overly nice and not just say it is bad. As a reviewer, never forget your reputation is all you have. Once that goes, what you have built will go🤷♂️ Disliked this video and my level of trust in you as a reviewer has went down.
Completely agree. Billy kept sugar coating it instead of telling it like it is. Lost a lot of credibility from this subscriber. Based solely on this review I will not purchase the Skydio 2+.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Billy should have called it as it was. I was watching the distance when the in screen view started chopping. The fartherest he could go before chopping was about 1000 ft. NOT TOO GOOD I have owned acutel x star premium, phantom 3, all of the Mavics with exception of the new 3 and I have owned the inspire 2. I am right now considering buying either the acutel lite+ or the skydio2 +. I am very impressed with the keyframe capability on the skydio and am very impressed with the RYYB sensor in the lite+ sensor. Autel has stated that they have no interest/plans at this time to give any waypoint capability (bummer) to any of its’ drones. BUT they do have a great camera and range. ( see ORIGINALDOBO’s video on the lite+ and Ken Heron’s interview with Maxwell Lee). After watching this flight review; I just can’t see paying hundreds of dollars more to just get the keyframes option. Sorry Skydio2 + that is my opinion and I am sticking with it. I believe I will be buying the AUTEL LITE+. Maybe one day DJI will release a SDK for the Air 2S and LITCHI will support the Air 2S and then I will get Waypoints capability. I used to use Waypoints on my Inspire 2 and it was a GREAT, GREAT tool. Autel 1. Skydio 0. PEACE!
Unfortunately Looks like nothing was improved as far as range ... and as far as the company reliability it sucks that they didn't announce this "upgrade " a head of time like any other company, instead they choose to have ppl buy the old version and dropped this "upgraded" in surprise... alot of ppl didn't like this trick and it shows alot about the company... Also I feel that they just had alot of stock left from the original skydio 2 and to save money & maximize their profits they just installed 2 funny antennas ( make it looks like a 5 years old drone) and try to sell it as a new drone.. the battery upgrade is nice though the drone itself is exactly like the previous one- all those range tests on TH-cam shows nothing really changed about the range, still the same crappy video signal.. a real upgrade will be a complete redesigned drone- foldable arms, 1" camera sensor, higher megapixel photos, new remote controller, a real range increase without those 2 funny looking horns -dji can fly 15 km with internal antennas.. so I am sure they can make a 6 km with internal antennas. That just reinforce my thought they had a big stock of the original skydio2 changing only that top plastic cover ..super lazy, cost savings "upgrade "
I'm selling my skydio now. No trade in for existing customers is so rude. this drone isn't very reliable to begin with as skydio lied about every stat of the drone. Range is terrible amd connectivity is a joke

For a beginner MAYBE. I don't know the price range, but if I was a beginner I could find $70 toy drone that you can crash it and still keep learning.
